Sno so sorry about the gain. Been there and do it regularly. I don't usually post my bad weigh ins and just stick to the ticker weight until I get back down so brave of you. 5lbs in a day can happen so easily but it is usually water retention and you'll be back where you were before you know it. I really envy people who don't experience wild fluctuations in their weight.
Aimin playing around with eliminating certain foods and beverages really works for me and I'm with you on the "failure is not an option" mantra.
Dolly your going to do this!!! You are sooo close to the final goal and half a pound is nothing. My favorite egg white omlette involves LF feta cheese, sliced black olives, red onions and fresh tomatoes. Not a pretty sight always in the end but tastes amazing if your into Greek.
Awesome about the 2 pounds Luxorbea and 14 total your really getting there!!! Your little ones must keep you hopping. I run a day care facility and love kids especially the under 5 year olds and some days just for fun I wear a pedometer just to see how many steps I take in a day and last week I did 17000 steps a day just at work alone so some days I'm beat at the end of the day and I'm glad all I have to deal with after 5:00 is the emotional compexity of my three teens because I can usually do it from the couch.
Thanks everyone. I really appreciate the pick ups. Apparently all of us have been stuck on the old plateau. Also, I am one of the wildly fluctuating weight folks in the group, although that might be my scale. I think it sticks because this morning I stepped on and it went up to 155 and I said to myself " Uh no, that CANT be right" so I stepped on again and poof, back to 151. I need a new one...high tech. One that won't lie to me.
I know I can't be doing TOO badly though because I am fitting into smaller and smaller sizes all the time and most days I do over an hour of high intensity turbo jam, 20 minutes in the morning and 45 minutes to an hour in the evenings.
Dolly Pie, keep up the good work. You are soooo close to goal
Good job Luxorbea
Snow, don't get down on yourself. The falling off the wagon isn't bad as long as you hop back on with vigor!
Thanks 40, I am eating only "clean" foods this week, stuff the way nature created it- no processed foods. Let's see where that gets me...
Best of luck to all, thanks for the moral support!
40- wow, that's a lot of steps! I bought a pedometer, but never got to use it because I ended up giving it to my hubby instead. I should see if he's still using it LOL
Sno- changing meds can be horrible for weight loss. I know for me, my body seems to hate any chemical changes and I always seem to gain when I take a new medication. I appreciate you telling us about the gain, and I am sure that those extra pounds will go away again soon
Today my daughter wanted to know how much I weigh, so I actually stood on the scale for her- clothes on and everything! 283 and some change! Now, in the past, there was no way I'd do that...But now, I'm proud of that 283! LOL Less than 2 months ago, I was 295 without a stitch of clothing on!
Hope you all are having a great day!

MY Goal for this week: get to the gym at least 3 times (1 done, 2 to go)
and walk the kids to school at least once
Thanks for all the support girls. I have reached the stage in my run/walk program that I only run now, so hopefully that will jump start my metabolism. Just waiting for warmer weather to start swimming. Well last night for dinner I made the most amazing chicken teriyaki, DH actually thought it was take out I put in the skillet. This is a big step for me, I am trying to venture out of the same old same old when it comes to cooking. Who knew that oyster sauce actually tasted good. Tonight is is grilled porkchops and then a found a reciepe for sweet potatoes I am going to try.
40 - how funny I actually had a greek salad for lunch today. I like everything, but the taste of bell peppers are still growing on me. I think they would be better if they would have taken the skin off, I don't know why the didn't. I actually make my omelete with spinach and onions.
Luxorbea - I think it is awesome to show your daughter your weight. Being honest and open is great way to build that relationship with your daughter. I think I keep my weight a secret with my family and get nervous at the doctor's office because I have never and will never see my mother on a scale, let alone know how much she weighs. It is a huge mystery.
aimin4thin - My scale does that sometimes but only by about 2 pounds. I will weight myself three times and take an average. Also make sure you are weighing yourself on a hard surface.
Sno - Good job getting back on that scale! That is the only thing that brings me back to reality. It's not what I want to see, but it does the trick.
Oh yeah, I am definitely weighing on a hard surface. Ceramic tile! My weight and body are so goofy. I swear. Other people get water weight for a day or three tops, I get it and keep it for 5-7 days around my TOM. Also sometimes I can weigh in the morning and that same evening will weigh 5 pounds less which is weird because typically you weigh more at night. I need to not let my heart ride on what that dumb scale says all of the time. I just hate the plateau and I really really am working very hard to meet this goal. It is just soooo frustrating. I honestly don't know what I would do if I didn't have you dollypie, snowbrocade, 40, WBM, Luxorbea and all of the wonderful ladies on this forum. You gals keep me going when it feels hopeless --Thanks so much!
Luxobea. I very rarely let my family know what I weigh and the heavier the more I keep it a mystery so good for you setting that example. I think it's great when you can be honest with your kids and I'm going to remember this.
both my girls have no issues with body image and are both at their ideal weight and very active.
Dolly the muscle pain if it only occurs during the running and you aren't sore the next day is probably a build up of lactic acid and there are certain supplements that can help with this plus drinking lots of water. I bet your ready for that 5 k run.
Aimin eating clean whole foods is really working for me. Since eliminating coffee and sugar I've been averaging 2-3lbs a week and before I was lucky to get 1lb. It's not easy though I still have cravings but not as much as time goes on. Once I reach my goal I'm sure things will sneak back into the diet just hope I can keep it to a treat here and there.
Sno meds of any kind can make weight loss challenging but not impossible. It's hard enough without any meds so kudos to you for your progress so far.
Thanks everyone for your support. We're going to do this!!!
Well, I actually didn't give up coffee, but I don't put anything in it so it doesn't hurt me calorically. I know I need to drink more water. I am trying to. The scale actually did move a bit today, but I am not going to change my ticker until it registers that same weight three days in a row. I am really looking forward to breaking into the 140's and its SO CLOSE... Gosh I can remember when I started at LA weight loss and was trying to break into the 160's again!
I just go out of the most pointless meeting at work today. I don't even understand the point of it. I even avoided the sugary breakfast danishes they had. I just went for a glass of hot tea. That always suppresses my appetite or craving that is anything hot. Only good news from the meeting in that I get to go Los Angeles in July for a business trip. Never been to the west coast so I am pretty excited. Today at the gym was my day on the elliptical, but I decided to run instead. My first time to run two days in a row. I thought it would be tough, but I got through it. I never thought I would feel a running high, but I did today. I was so pumped I even did my legs strength workout afterwards. DH left this morning for a business trip and will be back later this week, so the house all to myself and the two dogs. I think to nights of relaxation will make the week go by faster...let's hope.
aimin4thin - If the scale flucuates that much why don't you try going to weighing once a week. I used to do that, but now I am addicted to it. Good job on the lose, I'm sure it will stick!
40 - what kind of supplements help? I try and stay hydrated while I workout and afterwards. I would say I drink at least 30oz of water during and after my workout. Then I have breakfast which includes a glass of milk.
thanks again for the support--once again regular posting has got me back on track and is keeping me there. As Aimin says--hop back on the wagon with vigor! My eating feels normal again and the adjustment to new meds is slowly kicking in--less cravings.
I also saw my doc yesterday and she is sending me to physical therapy for my knee--yay! I actually really miss walking-the short walks I have been doing havent really done that much for me.
Down another pound today so I am now 2 lbs off from last week--whew--it really helps motivate. Getting a cold tho--I am going to power down the Red Zinger and Echinacea tea today and hope it keeps it at bay.
It is interesting to see what helps people off a stall--sometimes anything with caffeine will make people stall--not sure why. Also sugar, artificial sweeteners and too many carbs can do it. One time I was stalling and I stopped drinking diet sodas and I dropped four lbs that week. It was really hard tho because that diet soda was my only treat!
dolly--good job avoiding the pastries--I think that burns calories too! Also your workout sounds great--you are really getting fit! Have fun in LA--I used to live there and it can be great depending on where you are. Hey--post your chicken teri recipe--I'd like to try it! I think having new recipes really helps--today I am making pot roast in the slow cooker.
Luxor--congrats on being so open about your weight and the weight you have lost so far! I think it really helps kids if you are open and unashamed about where you are at!
Aimin--I know that plateau will be broken--sometimes the body just needs a rest from weight loss and if you keep up your plan it will just give you a big woosh. Plus if you are fitting in smaller sizes and exercising a lot you are probably converting fat to muscle--muscle weighs more but takes up less space. But if you are smalller who cares what the scale says!
Nina--I envy you your 17000 steps--no wonder you are losing. Eating that clean diet is really good for you--I know that sometimes eating processed foods with all the additives have kept me from losing--I am trying to eat more veggies and keep it clean.
Snow! Congrats on your 2 pounds! That is awesome!!! and yes, it is very motivating to see the scale drop... even a half a pound sometimes is all you need to say " wait a minute, I don't want those tortilla chips at lunch!" I am proud of you for hopping back on the wagon with Vigor. That is awesome!
Dollypie- I would like send a special shout out to you, my other Texas girl, for saying no to that danish! It can be so hard when everyone else takes one and you are sitting there feeling subhuman, deprived,... that devil sits there on your shoulder and says " how bad can one danish be? you will work out later... you have been running, you deserve it!" But whenever I hear those negative messages in my headI always think to myself " you know, danishes were invented before I was born and they aren't going anywhere anytime soon, so it's not like I will never have a Danish again.... just not right now".
40 you might be on to something with the coffee giving up...but whoo it would be hard.. I am used to 32 ounces of coffee a day PLUS an Enviga which claims to have as much caffiene as a cup of coffee. I am in PR... coffee drinking is like an indoor sport for PR people!
Luxorbea- way to go girl! I can't wait to celebrate on this forum with you when you reach your goal!
I haven't lost again but I am not discouraged. I am just getting back into the groove. It seems as if everything goes fine then a little something happens and throws me for a loop. All I can think is the stress of sending my son off to basics has sent me for a little depression but i am feeling better. Now I need to plan out some menus. I just need some down time.
Not sure i posted that went tubing on Monday! It was so fun. Boy did it get my heart pumping. I didn't walk up the hill most of the time... took the tow rope.. but it was still hard work. The best part is hubby came along. He hates cold weather. He didn't tube but took pictures and had fun. He has been such a stick in the mud. So now I have to go to his thing Friday. I wasn't going to but I am going to be nice!
I need to eat my snack now. and i want that recipe also!
Dolly I believe the supplement is called creatine (probably haven't spelled this correctly)and also you can take an amino acid complex. When we lower our calories and exercise it forces the body to work with lower than normal glycogen levels and when they become depleted the lactic acid builds up in the muscle and registers as mild pain. Running is considered a vigorous exercise compared to other forms of cardio. If you keep your heart rate below 130 you will utilize fat stores as well as glycogen so you can go longer. Running almost alway involves a higher heart rate so you go stait to glycogen. I'm not sure if this is right but from what I can remember this is how it works. As you become more accustomed to running your heart rate wil run lower and cardio fitness is improved.
Tubbing is so fun WBM. I just booked a mini ski vacation for the us for March break so am really looking forward to it. I'd really love to be somewhere tropical but don't have the heart to kennel my dogs for that long. Your maintaining your weight and that's a good thing. Emotional eating is one of those habits that is so hard to overcome. I still do it but now try and find alternative comforts. I have a suana and use it sometimes when things get all stressed or an aromatherapy bath can go along way. Not the same as chocolate but can help.
Sno I knew those pounds would come off and I bet they'll keep dropping. I'm with you on the knee. Physio helped me alot. I can now walk and do light skiing but no running until the fall. It's great for getting those little muscles in and around the knee you don't know you have working again.
Aimin giving up coffee would be difficult in your situation switching to tea sometimes might help the weening process. Giving it up cold turkey is very painful by the way. Caffenine headaches are like migraines. Like Sno I gave up diet soda and it helped the weight loss to get going again when I reached a plateau and now I rarely drink it. My diet sounds so boring but I really don't miss most of the things I've given up (except chocolate) and know I'll eat them again but in moderation.
3 Cubed chicken
Low sodium teriyaki sauce, enough to coat with a little in the bottom
Oyster sauce, about 3 tablespoons
5 Chopped Green Onions
Minced garlic, 3 pieces
Ginger powder, about 1/4 teaspoon, DH is too keen on the flavor
Cornstarch, about 1/2 a teaspoon
Mix all together and let marinate over night in the refrigerator. Saute in 1 tablespoon sesame oil. I thin mixed in some lightly steamed veggies. Servied over brown rice.
Had a great upper body workout this morning. I am having to be vigilant about my calories today because tonight we have our year party for our Credit Union. They always have pizza, salad, and lot of desserts. My plan is to have two slices and a salad, no more no less. So no messing up during the day!
40, I take a multivitamin, but I am going to have to look into the other. I have thought about buying the Centrum Performance vitamins next because they do have more B vitamins and are formulated for people who are active. I have notice that my heart rate has decrease dramatically from when I initially started running. It used to get up to 175, know I am lucky to get it above 160. I will do short burst of really fast running at the end just to get my heart rate up more. Do you think that is a good idea?
WBM, It is so funny we you wrote about tubbing. I was thinking what is she talking about and then I realized you meant tubbing in the snow. In Texas we only tub on the rivers (we have no snow). The rope swing is my favortie. I did have a most embarrasing experience once. I just went in my clothes because I forgot my suit, and I hung on to the rope too long. Let just say my shirt and bra came up and I flashed everyone. It is still the talk of our friends when we go. My DH is like that too sometimes he doesn't like to participate in fun activities, sometimes he won't even go.
aimin4thin, thanks for the pep talk. I hate that little devil. I know he is going to be on my shoulder tonight, but I plan on knocking him off.
Snowbrocade, I am sure the therapy will help you alot. I am giving up diet sodas for Lent so I am going to see if that will affect my stall too. Although I can't force myself to unsweet tea, so in moderation only one glass a day.
