  • Quote: Good morning everyone! Today is the best morning. After a water weight struggling TOM I finally hopped on the scale this morning and was SHOCKED to see it sitting at 155. That puts me down a full 11 pounds since January 1. I think it is the Turbo Jam workouts that have burned everything up so fast. Hope everyone else has a super fabulous happy weigh in today as well.
Hey I have the power 90 and slim in 6 from beachbody. I had started Power 90 in october of 04, back when I was my normal 165 and it was awesome, I lost almost 10 lb's in the first 30 days with that alone. But then I got sick.... never went back to it. What is wrong with me, I thought I was big then LOL Last year I got the slim in 6 thinking it might be easier to do (before I knew I was anemic and thought I was just feeling bad) I stayed with it for a few days but it was really hard at low low low exertion and I gave up since it felt like I was dying. I still have them though and I went and got a B12 supplement today. Hoping it will help with the energy How do you like Turbo Jam? It looks fun, but I am totally uncoordinated. I think I liked power 90 just because it was so straightforward. You can't get tangled up haha Once I get this ablation done and get the go ahead to start excersizing I am going to start it up again. Sure would help with the calories. I am trying to make a 1200 cal menu and It means I have to be very very good all the time.

I was doing some pondering today and I think i am going to start saying to myself every morning "If I can get through today I will be one day closer to my goal." Make it a ritual. I think sometimes I don't keep things in perspective. I won't have to diet forever. Once I get to my goal I can start eating again, healthy still but not as restricted. It seems like I think the word diet and I freak out and make a batch of something horrible. Not only that with the recommended 1-2 pound loss per week, my first goal is only 9-18 weeks away. If I am extra good, 9! According to all the calculations I should be able to lose 2 a week on 1200, and thats without excersize. Which is what I need untill I get the go ahead.

    Ok babble babble! --Sumi
  • Sumisan- I am so glad to have someone to discuss the beachbody dvd's with. How is the Slim in 6? I have been curious, but I have a bit of a workout DVD addiction LOL and if my husband sees me bring one more dvd into this house I think he might have me committed! JK... He is actually very supportive but whatever program I do, I have to have ALL of the videos so I have all of the turbojams and all of the YBB's too!

As for TurboJam, I love it but it is tough and Chalene (the instructor) kicks my hind end every single time. I never find it simple, but I always find it fun.

Same way with me and the diet thought. If I think for one minute that I am depriving myself POOF there goes my resolve. But..my buddy Erika put it best when she said to me..." Honey, nachos aren't going anywhere and you WILL have them again...just not right now!" So, whenever I think I am getting bored with counting calories, I just imagine me this summer living life to the fullest and feeling great on my trip to Germany, having all of that energy, not feeling fat around all of the skinny healthy Europeans!!! LOL and suddenly, nachos don't seem so important anymore. Don't fret or give up though. You CAN do this and YOU WILL DO THIS if you make it the most important goal of your life.

If you saw my approach to weight loss, you might think I am a bit of a fanatic. I record all of my calories taken in and all of them burned (as calculated for me by fitday) and put them into a spreadsheet. From Jan 1, I was trying to go from 166 to 130 and I know that 3500 calories equals a pound so I calculate the difference between what I ate and what I burned. That column self totals and divides by 3500 so it tells me how many pounds I have lost simply based on calories eaten vs burned. It has been 100% accurate and consistent with what the scale says. I log it in every night before bed. Water weight and TOM were the only anomalies that caused discrepancies between the spreadsheet weight and the scale weight.

Ugh I lost my post Ok to summarize then (which is probably a good thing)...

Slim in 6 is ok, not really that fun though, but I only did it a few times about 6 months ago. It nearly made me pass out though, one of the reasons I went in to see the doc LOL So to be fair I am biased when I think about it. I really need to review it again LOL But I was thinking about trying to find one that was actually fun not just to the point excersize. I even checked out fit to the hits from the library but I dont think I will be buying it. I never knew they had workout dvd's there but it will help preview them If they don't have it you can even request it. I only have the one slim in 6, I guess the first one? The other may be more fun. It is actually more intense than power 90 because they do weight and cardio every workout. On power 90 you alternate. (its all coming back haha)

I dont think you nuts at all! I use spreadsheets for everything!!! Homeschool, household chores, nutrition, dorking around LOL I actually have a diet one in progress but it is in its enfancy still, more number and information gathering than actual logging yet But that reminded me I downloaded one from some guys website that offered a free one that I wanted the checkout.

I have alot of things to work on at once LOL not just dieting, its an all together overhaul LOL house, priorities, weigh loss, fitness, nutrition, sibling rivalry. EI EI EI But I need these things back in order or I will go insane. I wish I could have a maid and a personal chef and a personal trainer and that tv nanny come stay with us and whip my kids in shape LOL Oh and a personal contractor who would put my house back together LOL That would make it so much easier. haha But back in the real world I am at the my wits end and have resolved to do it all myself.

My husband says he is supportive but he acts a whole other way. For example yesterday we went grocery shopping. Mind you we are 45 miles away from the nearest walmart. So even he has suggested that we try and go less often. I totally agree and make a list of all lists to stock up. We go and by mid store and a nearing full cart the rolling eyes and huffing start. Then 1 isle later, don't you think we have gotten enough? Ok, sure lets just get everything we need expect the last few isles. Needless to say I sent him back out today to the small grocery store in town to pick up things I missed due to being rushed. i dought if he will put two and two together though.

I love the fact you have first hand the 3500 number really works!! YEAH!!! That really helps me. For some reason I always think it won't really work. But geez if it does! I would love to be slim and fit by this summer! Seriously just meeting this challenge goal would be a huge relief to be back to my old self. I was unhappy then but would be extatic now!

I took german for 3 years in high school, I really wanted to go on the class trip there Are you going anywhere else or just germany? One day I want to go tour the world, maybe backpacking and staying at hostiles.
  • Spread sheets
Just what I have been looking for!

I thought it was just me! I love to use spread sheets also! I have been thinking how to use a spread sheet and now you have given me direction! Thanks aimin4thin and sumisan!

I need to improve on eating and this will give me a concrete picture of what I am doing and what I can do!

Hope all is well and warm. Spring is around the corner!
  • Good Morning All,

I have to say I love the spreadsheet too. I actually have one on my bathroom mirror and I put a little smiley fact sticker on it everytime I work out during the month. As for the calories it is so hard to track all the time. I usually track my calories about three days a week and then do my own head calculations on the others. I think don't want to do that for the rest of my life, but I am going to keep myself in check.

Worldbestmom5: I can't wait until Spring gets here!!! Hope your hubby is feeling better today.

sumisan: I don't know how you do it, that is living so far from a grocery store. I stop by ours at least four times a week for fruits and veggies. I think it is from years of working at a grocery store. Maybe I just miss them deep down...hahaha
  • For any of you who want my formula for the spreadsheet, I would be happy to send it to you. Funnily enough the calorie counting actually sets me free. It gives me strict parameters..For those of you who aren't using FitDay, you should check it out. Afterall, it is free and wonderful!!! I faithfully log everything. It is so great to do a workout, log it in and get the numbers, plug it into the spreadsheet and see my weight decrease instantly! lol Well, so most days it drops in small incriments behind the decimal, but hey...everything counts and on average right now, I am dropping a pound every other day. Of course I am also doing a hard morning workout and a hard evening workout.

As for the turbojam dvd's, they are awesome and addictive and every friend I have introduced to it now owns the whole set. They are fun, they aren't like exercise and they are a very positive,, bright force in my life. I woke up this morning sore, tired and sluggish...dreading my workout, but I dragged myself oddly dressed into my personal "gym" (an empty bedroom that contains a total gym, yoga mats, a variety of balls, yoga gear and a tv/dvd set up) and I hit play on my favorite TJ, "totally tubular". Something about that music and working out with that weird stretchy green tube just makes me happy. I smile, I giggle, I dance up from my squats and I just LOVE it...I love it so much. I feel like I could run 6 marathons when I get done!!! Those endorphines are the BEST... And you know what, when I exercise, I feel great, I am nicer at work, I am happier and nicer to my DH, I am more alert, more focused, I look better, I feel younger... I just want the world to know what a difference exercise has made in my life!!! I love it!
  • Hey ladies,

I have the full TJ series and they're my absolute favorite and I'm a bit of a video junky myself. Seriously sprained my knee in Oct. so had to quite all impact exercise but realy miss them. No other series gives such a total body cardio workout and it's alot more fun than boring old cardio machines but alas that is what I'm stuck with for now. Glad to know other are addicted as well because I want to get back to them in a month or two. I tryed Charlenes 10 in 10 and lost 7lbs and eight inches in ten days without being hungry, back in May.

    Nina
  • Thank you 40 before 40 for backing me up on the Turbo Jam addictive nature. You and I are pretty close on the weight scale for this. I was at 166 and aiming to be at 130. I have 25 more pounds to go. Best of luck to you. I was thinking of doing the 10 in 10 plan next week to kick start things. I want to be in a sexy red satin dress for valentine's day but it is a size 10. Whew!!!
  • Ok I am totally thinking about getting turbo jam now LOL

Today was my official day one of counting calories. This is the first time I have dieted with counting calories, I have only lost weight twice in my life. Once as a teen, eating barely anything (very unhealthy) and once while breastfeeding which my son just sucked the fat off me LOL Gosh he was a fatty haha BUT SO CUTE!! Anyway it wasnt nearly as bad as I ha thought. I was full after every meal and even cut my low calorie ice cream in half to stay under! Much easier than atkins, I tried that for like a week not to long ago. All I got was some really nasty habits of eating to much fat! I know it works for some people , but I think you have to like the food LOL It was great the first day but after that I was sick of it. I need to start going on automatic though I find myself thinking about the food to much!

Dollypie: It isnt as bad as it sounds, we live 6 miles to the closest town and they have two regular sized grocery stores (nothing like the supermarkets they have in big cities though!), So for quick trips we just go there, but I like the variety and prices at walmart so we do our main shopping there. We actually have one a little closer but we didnt go to it for some reason. But it is still 30 miles away. We lived in california last year and were only a block from safeway, which was cool, in fact I used their delivery sometimes, wish they had that out here LOL

Hope everyone else is well! Night
  • Getting groceries delivered was another thing I used to feel guilty about! But no more! I have 4 kids (2 in school, but still taking the others to the store was crazy). Last year, the store had a deal where if you got groceries delivered on Wednesday you got 10% off your order. It got me to try it, then they took the deal away

But still, I have SAVED money! I no longer just go on auto mode at the store. I plan out what meals I want for the week, check to see what I need, make a list and just get what's on the list. Easy Peasy! Yes, I pay $10 delivery, but I would EASILY pay $10 on junk each trip to the store on stuff that looked good. And I can more easily control what comes in the house. (my little ones love to toss chips and nuts in the cart when I'm not looking)

I have made many changes the past year as far as things that I never dreamed of doing because it was just for me and made me feel guilty. And you know, they are my favorite things. I love my bottles of water! I love taking the time to go to the gym, even when the kids say they don't want to go to childwatch, and I love ordering my groceries on line! It took me a long time to make myself a priority, but you know, it feels great!
  • Okay I am interested in this TurboJam, I am going to have google it and find out more about it. I work out at a gym, but they do not offer any group fitness classes, which I love.

Personal splurges are the best. I always get the new Fitness magazine when it comes out. Bottle water is the greatest for me too!

So I am done a pound today and jumping for joy!
  • Good morning everyone! I had a difficult calorie day yesterday because of an upset at work. I didn't go above my requisite calories for the day, I went dramatically LOW 643 cals for the entire day. I also did a really hard workout yesterday which put me down a pound on the spreadsheet, but due to the saltiness of my dinner, I will be it is tied up in water weight. I am affected by salt intake so badly. Doesn't get me down though because I honestly know that the scale (barring water weight) is consistent with the spreadsheet. That is what is so great about having it! YAY! Still I won't update my tracker until I know the scale shows it.

Well yesterday I did the hardest TurboJam dvd they make. It is called Fat Blaster and it involves 8 turbo segments...4 high intensity and 4 low intensity. it is 30 minutes long. I am proud that I came through it like a champ. Then this morning I did my yoga booty ballet burlesque style cardio program which is great. Lots of fun!

Hope everyone is doing well... Congrats on your pound down Dollypie
    You deserve those indulgences Luxorbea!
And best of luck counting calories Sumisan...by the way TurboJam is at Beachbody.com..so is yoga booty ballet. Great programs!
  • i hear they are selling the yoga booty ballet at CVS drugstore if anyone have those in their town
aimin4thin-thanks for the discription of fat blaster im not sure if im ready fo that one i still struggle to get cardio party 2 all in

    Hi all:

Tee-hee--well the turbojam discussion got me interested too--I checked to see if they have it at my library but no such luck. I guess it is not good for me since I have my bum knee! What do you guys think? I saw it on e-bay too.

I have been doin great on the food--except yesterday--I had a glitch and went off plan. Not too bad but enough. I am back on track today and am glad I have three days before weigh in so I can hopefully still get some results this week.

It was weird--I wasnt even really hungry, I just felt in need of some comfort I guess since it has been a tough week.

The good part is I had a 30 minute walk yesterday and my knee felt okay. so hopefully I will be back on track soon. I am trying to decide if I should skip today walking just to make sure. Anyway we'll see.

    Sno
  • they have 2 of the people on turbo jam that does the whole thing low impact on all of the videos i do low impact because im too big to do all the jumping
