I found this recipe, it's from Weight Watchers.

haystacks : the recipe

okay - in the previous post, i had mentioned the fiber one haystacks
1/2 box of Fiber One cereal (1 sleeve)
10 - 12oz Hershey's Special Dark Chocolate (Chips or Chunks) --- make sure it's dark chocolate, the darker the better.
melt the chocolate -- either in the microwave, stirring every 10 seconds or so because you don't want the chocolate to burn... or do what i did and cook the chocolate in a double boiler thing --- stirring constantly til melted through.
use one sleeve of the cereal (there are 2 sleeves per box) - pour into the chocolate (or pour both the cereal and the chocolate into one bowl and fold until all the cereal is coated with the chocolate
i've heard that you can use little mini cupcake sleeves to spoon the stuff into, but i basically lined a cookie sheet with wax paper and spooned balls of the stuff on there.
shove 'em into the fridge until they're cool, stiff and hard (yes. i went there.)
it should yield 24 haystacks. 1 ww point each

Bobbo

there is a software program, you can download the free version,
if you run it once a day, it will remove the junk of the pc.
and another one that if you set up correctly will remove cookies, history, etc. with one click off the mouse.

http://www.lavasoft.de/products/ad-a...e_personal.php

http://www.ccleaner.com/

If you use these daily, it will help tremendously. I have been using these 2 progams for a looong time. I rarely have problems. are we allowed to give links like this? if not, the names are CCLEANER AND AD-AWARE FROM lavasoft.

ok. Girls got a question.

what do you mean by CLEAN FOODS?

I wash my foods, really I do :lol3:

Theresa

srmb60 03-15-2007 09:52 AM

Ah eating clean ... one of my bugaboo's. If you look at it and can't tell how they did that ... it isn't food. Just joking.
I try to eat food in the most natural state possible. An apple is an apple, a chicken breast is a piece of a chicken ... As little processing as possible.

In my perfect world ... 1200 cals with 40% protein, 40% carbs and 20% fats.

Theresa

Clean foods are those with the least amount of processing. An apple is cleaner than applesauce which is WAY cleaner than an apple fritter.

Whole wheat bread is cleaner than white bread.

Think whole foods.

Dinner out last night was fabulous! I got the shrimp (8 huge ones) served with lightly steamed broccoli, carrots and zucchini. The shrimp had an adobo sauce and was served on a bed of spinach fettucini. I had only 2 bites of the pasta!!! AND I had less than a dozen tortilla chips. But I did have my margarita. Happy to report that my weight is sticking at 140. Hope to see 139 by the end of the weekend.

AnAbsoluteDiva 03-15-2007 10:34 AM

Bobbi,

It is good to be back! Really back!!!

MamaBanana,

I have FOUR kids and one grandson. Child number 3 will be 21 on Saturday. I'm taking him out for his first drink in a public place. So God blessed me with a predisposition to rock-hard abs, but he balanced it with stretch marks. His way of keeping me humble. And fully-clothed. LOL

Also have my race-on-hills this Saturday. And I went and signed up for a 10K June 8. TEN K. !!! That's 6.2 miles. I figure if I can do 4.25 now, I can grow to 6.2 in 2.5 months. Gives me something to work towards. A goal is what they call it. ;-) But I gotta tell ya, my legs ache every day. Every day and it feels so good to ache so bad. (A spin on an old Manhattans song.)

Yesterday's calories were 724 with only 10% coming from fat and I burned a whopping 802 at the gym with my shoulders and abs workout and my 4.2 mile run.

Hitting the gym again today for back and biceps and another stint on the treadmill (raining in New England) and tomorrow I'm laying off the gym. I think.

I went to the bookstore this morning and picked up the Non-Running Woman's Guide to Running a Marathon. Yep. I'm gonna do it! I am going to run a marathon. Also taking up yoga.

And I've set me quit date for March 20. (It would have been my anniversary.) Good day to do good things for myself.

Off and running, kids!

Make it a good one.

AnAbsoluteDiva 03-15-2007 10:37 AM

Robin,

That is SO bizarre!

My cholesterol is 140 and my blood pressure is 80/60. I keep meaning to check my resting heart rate but by the time I remember to do it, I've been up and active. Guess I should strap the heart rate monitor on when I go to bed and just stare at it in the morning.

I had a hysterical tommy at the age of 32. Talk about bizarre! I had CANCER! Can you imagine? Anyway, I was so upset about it until the day after the surgery when I realized I would never need another tampon, mini pad, maxi pad, and that I could plunk $18 on a pair of panties and know they would never, ever, ever be ruined by TOM! Tom is a dweeb! Also splurged on beautiful sheets and GOT RID OF THE MATTRESS PAD!

Hey... I got dealt lemons. I made lemonade.

If you've already had your children, you'll find that a Hysterical Tommy is a blessing and not a curse!

Carry on, Robin! And rock 'til you drop!

;-)

AnAbsoluteDiva 03-15-2007 10:38 AM

You can pronounce all the words on the ingredient list.

IM AMAZED...from your picture I would say you are 25, no joke. AWESOME, youre a real inspiration!!!! Im no veteran runner, but I think you can totally up 2 miles in that time. I do 4 miles and before I hurt my knee, I added an extra loop to my route and hit 5, it didnt feel that different. Never done 6 though, but you are way more trained than me. YOU ARE THE BOMB!

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are too too funny Bobbi! :D I bet you stuck that in there to make sure we're actually reading the posts.

Diva, you are looking good for having all those kids! How's the dating scene going? Still chatting to the ex? Exes do tend to come in handy for booty calls, but he wouldn't deserve it. Anyways, just kidding girls..its been years since I've had a booty call. ;)

I did buy the much discussed Fiber One. This stuff BETTER be good! :D I'll let you know when I've tried it.

As for me, I've finally, after several months, gotten my appetite down to something more normal. I no longer get hungry and cranky when I haven't eaten, and consequently I've been able to get by on so much less. Yesterday I came in at 1119 without any hunger, and I had done 1 hour on my elliptical with heartrate in the 130s. The pounds are coming off so much faster now that its looking like I will reach my goal for summer!

Cannot wait to get my new wardrobe. So sick of wearing pants that get loose within one week of buying them. That's why I have one pair of jeans and I just got some black pants I needed for a board meeting last week which are already falling off. Luckily I can wear jeans to my office most of the time and they dont seem to notice I wear the exact same jeans EVERY DAY (or too polite to comment).

The home elliptical is going great. I just love that thing; so much better than going to the gym where you just want to get out of there and get home. I'll go to the gym today for weights, which I really need to start doing again after a month off.

Have a great one ladies.

littlered 03-15-2007 01:00 PM

Diva, you look so young, I would never had guessed.
My dd turned 21 last summer. but she had her own plans!

I had my hystorectomy about the same age. don't miss a thing! dd is jeolous! she wants one too!

I have to say you are all someone for me to look up to. You have all done so well with you life changes. (not Just the weight thingy either.)
I just hope I can do as well.

Am I really supposed to have up to 1600 cal? I keep seeing how all of you eat so much less and I get worried I am doing this wrong.

Me bad!! :D Had lean cuisien pizza. ate the whole thing too. with 2 cups of pea pods.

Mami 03-15-2007 01:11 PM

littlered, you should be able to easily lose plenty on 1600, that is low and good! We all need to do things that work for us, and obviously you need/want 1600 and that's fine. Some need less and they may or may not lose faster because of it. But it takes time to put on weight and there's nothing wrong with taking your time to get it off. Dont compare yourself to others. Most of my weight loss journey I've eaten more than 1700 per day, just as a comparison.

The lean cuisine pizza couldnt have been too bad, especially if it fits into your calorie allotment for the day. I eat pizza regularly, but I only get one slice of thin crusted pizza at a shop around the corner so I use this when I'm running around and can't get anything else. But I view it as a fairly healthy option, as long as you dont add extra cheese and toppings like pepperoni.

aphil 03-15-2007 01:50 PM

I also agree that 1600 calories a day is just fine for many here! It all depends on how much you weigh now, your genetics, how much you exercise, how active you are daily, how much you have lost already...so many variables!

A lot of those here you see that are eating 1100-1300 calories a day are either very near goal, or they zig zag their calories. (Eating a lower number one day, like 1100, and then a higher number like 1600 the next day.)

Don't worry about how many calories everyone else is eating. Some women can eat 1800-2000 calories a day at first and lose 1-2 pounds a week-if they are starting out very overweight. Someone who only has 10 pounds to lose, however, cannot start out that high in most cases.

AnAbsoluteDiva 03-15-2007 02:10 PM

Miz Claudia,

A Diva is not booty call material. You kidding, girl? Come on! Yeah... he calls and calls and calls.

The dating scene is fine but you know, I'm so looking forward to having time to myself that I'm not sure I want to pursue that. Dinner here, movie there, but I don't want all the intimate junk that comes with it.

I may never have another chance to be completely alone (next relationship may be the KEEPER) so I just feel I have to take advantage of this time and be totally selfish.

But booty call? Uh uh... Not THIS girl!

;-)

AnAbsoluteDiva 03-15-2007 02:13 PM

Littlered,

You're sweet!

I'm 47 (I thought my age was posted here somewhere). Kids are 28, 26, 21, and 18. Grandson is 5 months old, and a joy you can't imagine.

I attribute my youthful looks to my divorce ten years ago, and can't imagine what being single again will do for me. Especially after I quit smoking.

Something to look forward to. That, and watching my daughter pull her hairs out when her son decides he's smarter than she is!

;-)

littlered 03-15-2007 02:30 PM

Diva
your kids are about the same age as my two. 27 and 21. I am 49.

you have great skin, must be the spanish in you. LUCKY DOG! ;)
Me, I can't get in the sun without a burn. :(
I still go out to do yard work, etc.

hubby asked if the pic of you was from when you were 21. :flow1:

GrammyL 03-15-2007 03:56 PM

WOW, I have only read one page and you all already answered one question I had.

I am new to calorie counting and I realize it is a learning process. For the last three years I have been on a program, well I should say tried to follow a program and decided that 40 lbs over three years was great but there must be something else I could be doing. So, after a few months of research decided to try healthy eating and calorie counting.

That said I have to get going but I will be back tomorrow to join in and read your previous pages if you don't mind another chatter.

Thanks!

Calories today were 957 with 31% coming from fat.

Got dressed to go to the gym but my legs said no. So we're going tomorrow. They are so sore! We are having snow Saturday so my race got moved to Sunday, which means... I can run tomorrow with gusto and still have Saturday to rest!

I love it when winter weather works in my favor!

srmb60 03-16-2007 07:04 AM

I stuck around 1250 cals yesterday which makes my average for a week more like 1650 which is better. Yes, I do have to watch that creep. It's very easy to zag more than I zig.

rockinrobin 03-16-2007 07:21 AM

You guys are just too funny. Hysterical Tommys and stiff and hard haystatcks. And then of course there's the booty calls. Thank goodness I've been married for 21 years. That's all I can say on the booty call matter. Thank goodness.

Diva, you do look amazing though - 4 kids, never mind the wear on tear on your body just giving birth to them, but the actual damage that takes place RAISING them and then cancer. I don't know, I just don't know how you do it. Do your parents also look very youthful? Are they in good shape. G-d willing they are still with you?

Mami, I am really glad you're liking that elliptical of yours and I am so happy you are finally less hungry on less calories. Boy you sure stuck it out. I hope it works out for you.

Thursday's calories - about 1100.

Have a great day ladies.

I came in really, really low yesterday--663. Going out for dinners and lunches for the next three days, so I needed to "save up" just a tad. Weight is down this morning, but I'm certain that it is from being so low in calories yesterday. I would like it to hold, but it may not.

Bobbolink 03-16-2007 09:40 AM

Good Morning and T.G.I.F. for you working girls!

Great news yesterday on my cholesterol results, I don't remember it ever being so low, total cholesterol was 145! Normal hemoglobin, no anemia, no diabetes, good HDL @ 47,LDL @95.8, normal triglycerides @ 66 and most of all my liver test was normal at 30. I worried about that since I've been on meds for my high cholesterol for years and the meds are hard on your liver.

Thursday's journal:
Calories...1,041
Fat... 13%
Fiber... 63 grams

Breakfast ~ Fiber One-dry
Toasted Flat Out with cinnamon & Splenda

Lunch ~ 8 oz. Tomato/Spinach soup ~ 2 slice lite Toast with Elk burger, Salsa

Snack ~ applesause/Cool Whip/Fiber One on top

Supper ~ Egg white omelet with Elk~FFCheese~mushrooms~onions~ Salsa and 1/2 cup Refried beans.

Snack ~ Popcorn and glass of FF Milk

Theresa... I've used Ad-Ware for years, why do you use both? I'm trying out for 90 days (free) a Internet protection program called "Windows Live OneCare", anyone familiar with it? I asked them if I needed to use spyware and junk filter removers with their program and can't get a straight answer from them. (Automatic answers to chose from, no real person) I've always used Norton Antivirus in the past but my internet service says it causes too many problems. The only answer I got from Windows Live is that I should unable the scanner if I use another program? What do all you computer geeks think, I truly need some advice! :book2: Can I just install Lava or cclean and not worry about disconnecting the Windows live scanner?
Allison... Good job on your birthday dinner, only 2 bites of pasta? Great will power!
Claudia... I wish I could take credit for the chuckle everyone got out of the recipe.

GrammyL...:welcome: Welcome to counting calories and this thread. You're too young to be a grandmother of a 14 month old, you must have been 38 at the time? My sister was that young when she was a first time grandmother and she said it was great because she needed all that youthful energy keeping up with him.
Susan... Your Thursday's menu is Yummy. :chef:
Robin... I'd love to see a day's menu from you, anyone that's lost as much weight as you could teach us something.
I better get cooking, I'm making French Toast again this morning, I swear I could live on it.
Take care all you posters and be good today since the week-end is around the corner.

GrammyL 03-16-2007 10:32 AM

Diva ~ You do look fantastic and young. I totally know where your coming from with the Grandson because my Grandson is the light of my life. I see him almost daily and it gives life a special purpose.

Bobbi ~ I was 37 when he was born, his birthday is 15 days before mine. I told her to cross her legs and hold him in until my birthday but she didn’t think I was very funny. He is a special gift from above and may be her only child as he has some kind of uterus problem now which may cause complications. I was 19 when I had my DD and she was 18 when she had my Grandson. He is my husbands pride and joy because we never had a son, just two girls. I see you are making French Toast. I never thought about making it and it would be low in calories. Maybe I will make it for breakfast tomorrow because I will have my Grandson overnight, we take him every Friday night, and I think he would like it.

Claudia and Littlered ~ I eat pizza and just make sure they are low cal and healthy. I always have a salad with it and prefer veggie pizzas light on cheese. I have also found turkey pepperoni that I use to make my own pizzas which I love doing. I use WW/Flaxseed tortillas or WW pita, sauce, half serving turkey pepperoni, 1 oz slivered ham, light dusting of cheese (usually use 2 TBSP graded parmesan because its low in cal but big on flavor), lots of mushroom, bell peppers and onions. Takes away any pizza craving I may have and they are delicious. They run about 250 calories but worth every bite.

Allison ~ WOW, I would have a hard time going that low. Is that a picture of you down in the corner? That is one thing that really makes calorie counting appealing to me, you can adjust meals if you know you are going to have a higher count meal.

Aphil ~ You really caught my attention when I was searching these threads, that picture is beautiful. I like to zig zag my meals also but find that most of the time I end up between 1500 – 1600. Seems to be just enough food and I feel satisfied all the time. Seems really nice to not have cravings.

Thanks for the welcome everyone and I look forward to getting to know you, joining in on the conversations, learning and most of all sharing this journey with all of you.

Well I am going to go back on the pages and get to know everyone.

Thursday’s calories: 1530

littlered 03-16-2007 10:46 AM

Bobbo,

Congratulations on your good numbers. Those make all your hard work, worthwhile.

I use all of these programs. I also have Norton antivirus running always. with no problems.

It is set up to update daily and run constantly.

I don’t know anything about the Windows Live OneCare. I would do a search on it. Especially if they are not getting back to you. It sounds Hokey to me.

CCLEANER. Can be set up to run from you Recycle bin. Just right click it and it empties cookies, history, etc. You can set it up for you individual needs.

AD-AWARE. Removes all BAD cookies, spy ware, etc. I run it once a day.
You can run all of these on a regular basis to remove the bad fellers.

Some cookies can really be bad. People are now making Trojans and viruses as cookies. This is not from reading anything. It is from just learning as I go. I have opened WebPages, (not those pages silly ;) ;) ) and my Norton picked up a Trojan cookie.

I just run these as a precaution, especially before going online to pay bills, etc. I do lots of bill paying online. If you are having any problems with virus, these 3 programs catch all of them for me.

GrammyL 03-16-2007 11:11 AM

A little about me. I am married to a wonderful man that I like to complain about. We have been married 15 years, I have two daughters, and one grandson. I am the Executive Secretary in the Chemistry Department at a University. My hobbies are ridding/driving my horse and pony, walking, spending time with my family and learning how to live a healthy active life. I have spent so many inactive, lazy years that I am learning how to really live life. I am always looking for new adventures now.

A little diet history. I have been on about every single diet under the sun, I am a dietaholic. I have done calorie counting (worked really well), high carb, low carb, no carb, low cal, fat free, eat the same thing all day, diets that tell you when and what to eat, tried unmentionable things and starvation. One diet even helped me get kidney stones, lucky me. The last program I was on taught me a lot about nutrition but was restrictive and structured, took lots of planning and cooking, eating out was a nightmare because of the restrictions. You could lose really fast but you could gain it even faster if you did do it 100%. I did lose 40 lbs keep it off for over a year so its not all a loss but at one point I was up to 55 lbs. I just couldn’t bring myself to be 100% which is what the program requires to lose weight. It is also very mentally taxing know what you can’t have, planning every single bite and when you slip the disappointment. Spent some time reviewing different plans and some soul searching. I realized that the time I was happiest was way back when, when I counted calories. The weight loss was slow, required a little work but I was so happy and unstressed, I was 18 at the time, I am now 20 years older and wiser. All those crazy plans just cause stress, fast losses and fast gains. Slow, steady, stress free and perminent is what I now realize works.

There it is in a huge nut shell. As you can tell I like to talk and I am very open.

GrammyL 03-16-2007 11:16 AM

You all are making me glad I am a Mac user and have access to do most things at work where everything is updated regularly without me having to do anything.

Littlered, you gave me a chuckle about the webpages. HAHAHHA!

AnAbsoluteDiva 03-16-2007 11:19 AM

Robin,

Both parents are alive and well. Aged 81 and 72 and they still bike together, rollerblade together, and run marathons together. Hmmm... maybe they WALK marathons together. They live in Chicago where the air is nasty but the water is great. They have more energy than my four kids did as youngsters after a pitcher of Kool-Aid!

I don't think I look young at all, (I don't think I look haggard either), but you should see my skin after I've quit smoking ten days. Amazing! I'll be looking like that again on March 30. The man I went out with the other night said my picture didn't do me justice. Ha! A feeble attempt to get into my pants. He failed, of course (that Diva thing again), but nice to hear nonetheless.

I gotta tell you, though, that about two weeks ago I saw a "waddle" under my chin. That flap of skin turkeys have. So I went to a cosmetic surgeon and said "take it off". He couldn't find it. I made him get up close and then he saw it.

He told me that was a direct result of losing weight. Told me to finish losing all the weight I was intending to lose, and if that scintilla of fat wasn't gone, we'd talk again.

Anyone else seeing lose skin just HANGING??? Come on... that's a mean joke. And on the FACE no less!

The treatment is about $800 and he said if there was any other work to do, we could do it all at once and save some money but there is no other work to do (thankfully) so I'll have to ride it out and wait and see what happens.

I've taken my training to a newer level (preparing for a marathon) so I may see all this (12 pounds or so) come off by end of May.

Tearful Ex and I are having lunch May 20 (I asked for 75 days of ZERO CONTACT) and wouldn't it be lovely to plop my butt in front of him with a mini-skirt and mini-blouse that screams YOU ARE AN IDIOT!

Mother Theresa would scold me, but Princess Di would be proud!

;-)

GrammyL 03-16-2007 11:31 AM

Aphil ~ I just read how you came up with your sons name. You really put some thought into it and I really like how you came up with the name. Very special name!

alinnell 03-16-2007 11:34 AM

Bobbi~I use Norton Antivirus and I usually get a new download each year. In fact I just got the newest version last week. I really prefer Norton over McAfee (but there are others who would disagree with me on that point). I don't use anything else. On my home computer, I've never really had a problem with spyware (although DD did). If I have any problems at all, my computer guru at work fixes it for me.

Diva~I'm thinking of getting some "work" done, too. I don't think there is any hope for my chin, but I want my eyes done. As I've aged, my upper lids have started to droop (not like ptosis--that's where you can't open your lids all the way). What happens is the upper lid, up near my eyebrows, sags and gets all mushed up in my eyelashes and destroys any attempts at eyeliner. It really bugs me.

GrammyL~yup, you're right, calorie counting is the way to go! Welcome!!

littlered~I'm a die-hard fan of on-line banking. I've been doing it for years and find it so much easier than in person or over the phone stuff. So far, I've never had ANY problems with it. The only problem may be my forgetfulness to schedule a payment.....silly me, can't blame THAT one on the computer!

Rockinrobin ~ I have two teenage girls so I can totally relate and feel for you. Mine are also the center of my world because my DH works out of town most of the time and I need something to keep me occupied when I am not at work. Needless to say they are a bit spoiled.

Allison,

An eyelift does wonders for a woman's face! I'd be all over it if I needed it. I don't feel at all embarrassed to say that I have a Beauty Fund. That BF is better than the *** of a BF I have calling allofasuddentosayhemadeamistakeandpleasepleaseplea seforgiveme.

You should do it. When your eyelashes BECOME the eyeliner, it's time to go for that lift.

I wouldn't do liposuction or tummy tucks or anything I could achieve on my own through determination and hard work, but this face doesn't care how much I lift or run or eat.

I create the illusion of a larger lid area but tweezing my eyebrows with a slightly-exaggerated arch (see photo). My mom had it done against my father's wishes (until she threatened to leave him at the age of 69 no less), and I swear, that woman looks 50!

Let me know if you do it, and then I want to see BEFORE AND AFTERS!

I see you are making French Toast. I never thought about making it and it would be low in calories. Maybe I will make it for breakfast tomorrow because I will have my Grandson overnight, we take him every Friday night, and I think he would like it.
Grammy... The French toast is delicious and very filling.

3 slices "light" bread ~ 120 calories
2 T. "Light" vanilla soymilk ~ 8 calories
2 egg whites ~ 33 calories
Vanilla and Cinnamon/Splenda ~ 0 calories

2 Tablespoon SF Syrup ~ 18 calories.
Total 179 calories.
I served a couple strips of Turkey bacon with it.

The picture on the side is my oldest daughter, my grandson (her son) and myself. Its his first cart ride with our pony. As you can see he have him dressed for the occassion. HEHEHEH! Can't forget the sucky. That is gone now thank goodness.

Bobbi ~ The recipe sound delicious and I am going to give it a try. I am so glad it has soy milk in it because my grandson is lactose intollerant. Thanks for sharing it.

By the way I look horrible in that picture because I don't wear good cloths around the horses, they like to get you just as dirty as they are. HEHEHEHE! The T-shirt I have on in the picture was from when I weighed 40 lbs more than what I do now.

Bobbi ~ What brand of turkey bacon do you recommend? The last time I made turkey bacon the dogs and cats wouldn't even eat it.

Diva, yes I have some saggy skin, the backs of the arm. OH YUCKO! My husband commented that the more weight I lose the worse it seems to get. I was told to do strength training so I do but its still there. Hopefully it will eventually disappear on its own.

I quit smoking last June and have also seen improvement in my skin. I am so glad that that battle is over. It wasn't to bad and I went cold turkey just to get it over.
