Claire (and anyone else who does not feel well today)
 here's an angel to look over you. get some rest. You problably need it with Your job! ;) |
Nojellybelly~:welcome2:
Walking~ I hope you feel wonderfully rested tomorrow and without illness! :goodluck: with the scale tomorrow too! Hey, does anyone read Janet Evanovich? I'm like that character that held up the Frito Lay truck because she was on a low-carb diet. I just can't deal on the no-carb thing. Thankfully I've been able to ween myself (over the years) off of the bad carbs, but I still need carbs (love my brown rice.) That said, I've had friends who have done really well on low-carb high protein diets, so they can work. I think everyone's body is a little different. Wouldn't it be nice if doctors could just do a test and tell you what would be the best for your particular body? Or would that be too easy? :spin: Boy, am I rambling today or what? |
Hi all! I had a good day today and yesterday. I kept it under 1800 calories and walked for over 1/2 hour. I got hungry for a snack at work and I didn't have anything with me. I ended up having to grab a snack size bag of pretzels for 200 calories, which isn't too bad, but it is processed. What are your favorite snacks to keep on hand?
littlered - what a cutie you have in your picture! walking2loose - hope you feel better. grammyl - congrats on the pound drop. |
Well, eating for me today is done...1300...about half of that was from one meal!!.....Wound up leaving about 2:30 for the kids teacher meetings, then the book fair, THEN we went to my dad's, my mom went to NJ to take care of her mother and she's been gone over a month....poor dad he gets so lonely...She'll be back in about 3 more weeks!! Kids can't wait... My brother and his kids came by also and they ALL ate pizza so we stayed longer than planned and I wound up FAMISHED when I got home and eating a bit more than I should have in ONE meal...
OH anyways, so we went to my dad's and he's the WORST about pushing food on me, BUT he finally is understanding...when I talked to my mom tonight she said he originally thought I wasnt eating at all, since I rarely ate/ or accepted food from him!! ALso he wasn't aware that I've been doing this since Nov/Dec. For the longest time I wore such big baggie clothes, now that I bought clothes that fit nice, the weighloss is more noticable!! Some of the stuff I was wearing was about 2-3 sizes too big!! She explained to him that I was counting calories and eating only exactly how much I needed and I've been doing it for quite awhile!!...While I was there he asked how much I lost and told me he would stop trying to tempt me with food!! Also made a comment that he needed to start getting on the ball himself and loose the weight he gained this past winter... You know what I love...I was telling my mom that if my dad was so concerned about what and how much I eat, I WROTE EVERYTHING down the past 4-5months and he could see it... I hope my dad stops trying to push food on me, and he really did finally get it!! I just can't keep going over there if all he does is try and throw food at me.... |

Clif Zbars...they are marketed for kids but they are quite yummy and 120ish calories per bar...they are also organic. I get them from amazon online...cheaper that way... ALSO LOVE Dr Kracker Seadlander Crackers....also buy by the case at amazon. I buy they snack bags and they are 120 calories. I'll sometimes much on a bag with 1 wedge of low fat laughing cow cheese...... From the just tomatoes company I love munching on little bags of the just veggies...its like dried vegetables the texture of like popcorn...100% veggies nothing added! I got my sis in law into those, and she'll take them to work and people will look at her like HUH??? but then try it and LOVE IT!! |
Theresa - to answer your question about the high protein diet, my hubby and I were on the Atkins about 4 years ago. We both lost 30+ pounds in a relatively short time before it slowed down after adding a little more carbs to our diet. It's easy to loose on it, but after a while it gets pretty boring and once you go off it's hard to get back to a balanced diet and keep the weight off. I didn't exercise other than my usual walking during the time that I was on it, so all weight was lost by other means.
I have heard that it's the best way for women to lose weight quickly, but they don't address the long-term success rate. I also found that the joints in my toes started to ache by the sixth month. I went off immediately after that for fear that I was developing gout. I must admit that it did away with my acid reflux and hypoglycemic episodes. My cholesterol and blood pressure also went down. |
Girls -- thanks so much for the well wishes. Everyone is so sweet and caring. It's a warm place to come when you need encouragement, so thanks to all of you who make it that way. I'm heading in about 2 minutes to cozy up in bed. I hope to feel better upon awakening tomorrow. Will check back tomorrow to post my weigh in... I sure hope I'll be moving that blasted ticker DOWN.

~Cabot Dairy makes a great light cheddar that comes packaged in individual servings and they are only 50 calories each. I like to eat those with a couple of rye crackers. Sometimes for variety I get light string cheese instead. ~When I'm really craving chips I eat a corn tortilla that I've baked in the oven. Sometimes I bake them with nothing on them, but they are best when spritzed with some nonstick spray and salt sprinkled on. I'll eat one tortilla with a serving of salsa. ~When I want something really decadent I have a serving of dark chocolate or a 1/4 cup of pistachios. |
Calories for today: A whopping 1638 :yikes:

hey everyone
cheese question: where do people find the 'Laughing Cow' cheese? (It is lowfat/low cal cheese right?) I have looked for it at Cub Foods, Rainbow Food, and Super Target....am I looking in the wrong places or do those stores not have it? I LOVE cheese and would love to eat more of it for the calcium/protein benefits, but I usually eat just one fat-free slice on a sandwhich every few days because of the high calories. Also, I love string cheese (what a great, easy, portable snack!)...has anyone found any with less than 80 calories? those are the 'most healthy' ones that I have found...but I would love to eat it more if there were some made even healthier like the fat-free single slices of american that I buy. calories for the past few days: Tuesday 1660 Wed 1570 today 1890 (very high, I know, but I'm thinking of doing a little zig zagging this weekend...and decided to start with the zag :) ) claire~good luck at the weigh in! |
chloeone: I buy laughing cow cheese at Walmart or Sam's club....The low fat wedges come in a few different flavors. I LOVE these things. they are 35 calories (3 grams fat?? I think....its late I'm not going to look..LOL) I will get one and a bunch of celery sticks and sort of dip it in....YUMMMMMM also I eat it with crackers. My oldest son loves them too BUT he eats it with something SOOOO unhealthy and fattening I wont even say what it is, since it really is yummy and wont tempt anyone to try..... He's skinny skinny so he can eat it once in awhile...

1569 cals today.
How the heck do you get so much fiber?? LOL Even on my veggie bean burrito days I'm only in the 20s. 19 grams of fiber today. I might have to get Fiber One again...blech. Although it was pretty good with strawberries on it. I have some fiber additive "Fiber Sure", but isn't that not as effective as real food sources? |
Isn't broccoli high in fiber? What about high fiber bread or cereal? I've never tried Fiber Sure before. Although I did buy some Ovaltine today~ :-) I find laughing cow usually near the humus if that helps.Wishing All you CCs a great day tomorrow! See ya later! Oh! and thanks for the warm welcomes. I'm new to CC(well you know what i mean) My calories seem to be around 1600?IS this a good start?
|
I also love fruit for snacking , I never used to, and I would think that was the last food I would want. But now I crave my fruit and can eat more of that in a day then any other food.
|
Good morning all.
Some high fiber foods: Berries, straw, blue, rasp, black - and low in calories, a great snack Fiber One Cereal, for breakfast, to add into salads in place of croutons, to add to yogurt Pears Broccoli Cauliflower - I eat about 3 cups of this 5 X a week, maybe more Spinach and other dark leafy veggies Whole grain products Beans and lentils Claire, I hope you are feeling better today. We are also heading into spring break. I am dreading having the kids home, it just throws my schedule out the window. Bobbi it amazes me how much we think alike. I mean our journeys are so different, we are coming from such different places (weightwise). I'm talking about your last post about our well stocked and supplied house, and in general. And we COME from such different places. You with your pretty yellow chickens and your elk and me living in a big city. Anyway, Thursday's calories - it's been a good week, food wise and exercise wise, it had better be, cause next week I'm expecting it to be a DISASTER having the kids home and stuff. - Calories - about 1200. Have a great, healthy and productive day ladies. |
Good morning.

I have to say, my eating has really turned around from how we ate three years ago. Used to be I would have veggies maybe once a week twice at the most. Now I have them two or three times a day. Fruit was rarely boughten because it usually went to waste. Usually had apples on hand because they last a long time but other than that the occassion banana or canned fruit which just sat in the cubboard. Now, I have fruit every day. Used to use all those things like Hamburger Helper, Tuna Helper, boxed and more boxed side dishes, ordered pizza at least two times a week, Mac and Cheese/hot dogs at least once a week. Junk food was an every day thing and what was portion control? WOW, no wonder we are all over weight. I just sometimes look back and I am totally appauled at how I taught my kids to eat.
DH will be heading home today and will be home late tonight. I am not sure how long he will be home so I have done everything around the house that needs to be done. I will also pick up Jose tonight like usual because Grandpa misses the little guy. So I will clean the house but I am not going to worry to much about it because Jose will just tear it apart by the time he gets home anyway. Well I cleaned the leanto last night, a winters worth of poop. Wasn't as bad as I thought it would be but it was still a lot. I also brushed my horses and cleaned their tails up. My horses tail was huge and fluffly when I was done. He has a naturally curly tail so it is puffy when its brushed and because its long it is beautiful. I am usually just to lazy to do it. HEHEHEHE! Still can't take them out because the road is to dangerous to ride them on. There are these horrible soft spots that if they were to step in one they might break a leg. I am ready to get them out and they are ready to get out. OH WELL! Soon. I was down to 188.4 this morning so everything is going well as far as my weight. I really hope it doesn't get messed up when DH is home. I am going to do my best to continue doing what I have been. I ate out all last weekend and still managed to lose a pound so I know its possible. I CAN DO THIS! |
Good Morning!
Yesterday's menu was pretty boring and much the same as the day before since we had left-over Elk Cabbabe Rolls, etc. I did finally make the pudding recipe I had for "scratch pudding" using Splenda, yummy. The recipe was for Banana pudding but I left out the bananas and substituted unsweetened coconut instead. It's to die for, 6 small serving @64 calories each. I can cut the calories even more next time I make it by using Guar gum instead of (corn starch, 120 calories) I might try using Stevia instead of the Splenda. Does anyone cook with Stevia? Calories for Thursday... 1,163 Fiber... 64 grams Justme... My MIL is just like your dad and she always comes up with, "One little piece isn't going to hurt you" :rollpin: She's always been thin as a rail but I now weigh less than her.:D You mentioned that you might be "Thicker in the Waist" for your size? I am too, I carry any extra weight I gain in my waist. I never buy ladies blue jeans. If I buy a pair to fit my waist, the hips and legs are too big. Ladies jeans always have so much material in the upper part of the legs, they must think we all have fat legs. I buy mens 505 Levi's, that fit perfect. The waist, hips and upper thighs all match my figure. You might want to look into them. Coinlee (Candy)... :wel3fc: Zenor... Great fiber for the last two days and I'm so happy it's working for you. :congrat: on the 2 pound loss! I love Janet Evanovich books and the Fritos Lay hoist was funny. Petra... An early congratulations on your Easter goal, looks like you'll make it. :congrat: RocknRoll... I was on South Beach a couple of years ago and lost 15 pounds on it. I've had migraine headaches all my life and after the first two days on the S.B.D. they hit with a vengence. But I stuck it out and did lose very rapidly, unfortunately it's not a plan I could live with. I missed my carbs, fruit and veggies. And of course I went back to drinking my Cabernet wine with supper everynight. It all came back on just as fast as I lost it. You could try it for a week or so and see if it's something you could live with. Theresa... Thanks for the list and way to go on the 53 grams of fiber. :congrat: on the 5 pound weight loss! Lovemyboy... I found a good snack that I eat with my soup at noon, it's "All-Bran Crackers" Garlic Herb. They are really good, 18 crackers have 120 calories and 5 grams of fiber. And like I mentioned earlier, Kettle Corn mini bags. Awesome! Chloeone... I find the Laughing Cow cheese at Wal*Mart too, I think the super marts are all set up the same. When you walk in the door, they have a free standing refrigerated case with all the special cheeses on the right, across from produce. CoolMom... I hate Fiber One with milk too, but it's delicious sprinkle dry on stuff. I sprinkled it over my coconut pudding yesterday and it tasted like a up side down crust. Abby... "1600 calories at good start?" Try it for a couple of weeks to see if you can lose weight on it. If not, lower it gradually by 100 calories. :welcome: Robin... Do you arrange all your cans in the pantry in their own groups and single file? Is there a place for everything and it better be there next time you look for it? Do your car keys always go on a special hook inside the closet by the door? I bet you can answer yes to all the questions. You probably are as organized as I am. We do think alike. DH is going to eat a bowl of cereal if I don't get my butt in gear and make some eggs. Catch ya all later! Hi Grammy, Woodlily and nojelly, anyone else I missed. |
Hi Grammy, we were typing at the same time. Yes, you can do it! All the exercise you get working out side is a plus for you as well as the horses. Do you use it to fertilize your garden, flowers, etc. My aunt had the most beautiful Rose garden thanks to horse poop. DH just cleaned out the chicken poop last week, a icky job.

Bobbi ~ Strange but the thing I am good at growing are roses. These aren't the greatest pictures but this is of my archway covered with a climbing pink rose bush that was a start off my DH's late Grandpa and Grandma's bushes. My MIL killed the original bushes but at least we have a legacy of them. As you can see up buy the house all the flowers, I have going the full length of our house.

Zenor ~ I weigh every day to keep me on track and as a way to gauge if I am doing things right since I am new to calorie counting. I was so excited to get on the scale this morning and be rewarded with 188.4. I want to be down to 188 by Monday. If it doesn’t happen that is alright because I still had a nice loss this week. I like backing the corn tortillas and putting beans, cheese, tomato and lettuce on them for dinner. YUMMO!
Theresa ~ That picture is SOOOOO cute! I had the same experiences as Woodlily, so I am seconding what she said. The only difference is I ended up developing kidney stones and the kidney doctor freaked when he heard I was on Atkins. He said if I wanted more stones, stick with that diet. Needless to say I went off it right away and gained all I had lost plus some. I know of at least two people that developed gout while on the program and of a few people losing some of their hair. They do work fast but please do some research and read the pros and cons. Who knows, maybe those other people weren’t doing the program right. I did it right but I got the picture loud and clear. Four days in the hospital in pain worse than labor and then they had to remove the stones because they were to large to pass on their own. Rocknroll ~ That is really up to you what you want to do. I was going to start the South Beach diet and saw how you are suppose to do the first few weeks and decided to move to phase 2 because I can’t be on a high protein diet. I did lose weight but I was just using it as a stepping stone while I was trying to decide what to do. I was doing all kinds of research when I discovered this group and chose to just plan old count calories. I bought a lot of their frozen meals and still eat them with calorie counting because they are tasty and high in fiber. The down fall to their meals is they are often high in sodium and fat. Nojellybelly ~ Welcome, you have found an excellent group here. Claire ~ Positive vibes coming your way. HEHEHE! Just keep telling yourself I am not sick, I am not sick. Maybe it will keep you from getting all the way sick. It tried it a few weeks ago and I can’t explain it but I was sick but not as bad as all those around me and the time frame was a few days instead of weeks. Justme ~ I am so glad that people don’t do that to me. They all know I am trying to lose weight and they respect that. Matter of fact, they go out of their way to ask if I need them to make me something special so I don’t have to eat the naughty stuff. I say that is love. I am glad your Dad is seeing the light. Do you have to order the Just Tomato stuff on line or does a grocery store chain that you shop at have them? They sound good. My DD really likes the laughing cow cheese also. Claire ~ I find my laughing cow at Kroger. It’s the only place in my town that I have found it. I buy the low fat version. Ashcraft’s in the next town over also carries it. Yes, Sergento’s (SP?) has a lower calorie version 50 calories a stick but I find that it seems to be really salty and dry. I would rather have the few extra calories personally. The laughing cow is in the dairy section at Krogers on the top shelf and at Ashcraft’s its in the specialty cheeses. Bobbi ~ I have never cooked with Stevia because I bought it once and I didn’t like the after taste. I wanted to like it because its natural but I just couldn’t do it. Sorry, can’t help. Pudding sounds good. Wow, looks like I am glad I didn’t decide to stick with the South Beach plan and went with calorie counting. I am just exhausted from restrictive diets because I don’t like being told no. We use it on our garden but I really do need to scatter some poop in my flower bed. I have been scattering it in small piles along the fence line for about 5 years so their is a hump which is growing some really nice grass. HEHHEE! Horses want to eat it but they can’t reach it. Thanks for the encouraging words. I must add that the All-Bran crackers are excellent like Bobbi said. I have them with Laughing Cow cheese or Hummus. I also like my All-bran Cereal with Lite Coolwhip. |
I use Stevia, but not for cooking. It does leave an after taste if you put too much in. I've seen many websites with recipes using Stevia, but haven't tried any of them.
Bobbi~I made your TVP sloppy joes last night. They were good, but I don't think I sauteed the onion and pepper enough. I think I should have sauteed them longer before I added the TVP. But we liked it! Thanks for the recipe. |
Just a quick reminder for those eating lower lately-please try to get your calorie levels up a bit-800-1000 calories a day really isn't enough. :)
You should try to stay at 1200 or above-that is pretty minimal calorie-wise. If you are on a 1200 plan, and you have 1160 one day, and 1240 the next-and they tend to average out to 1200 over the course of a few days, that is fine-but 800, 900, and 1000 calorie days are simply not enough fuel. Weight loss calories per day for most people vary from 1200-1800 a day, depending on your current weight, and how physically active you are in your life and with exercise. :) |
Goodmorning everyone! :coffee:
Justme~ I'm dreading going home for Easter since I don't know how my DH's family will be about the food. I know my MIL won't try to push food on me, but my DH's granfather might and I'm a little worried about it. We usually stay with him when we go. I think it's great that your Dad is getting it and not being so pushy! I hope everything goes well for me too. I plan on taking some staples with me so I'm not at the mercy of another persons fridge. :crossed: Chloeone~ I've seen laughing cow at most stores here. It comes in a round package (looks kind of like a brie package.) I've also seen it at our grocery outlet sometimes. I've found light string cheese at Trader Joe's that is 60 calories per "stick." I've also seen it at Vons (Safeway company), but it's expensive there. Coolmom~ I don't like Fiber One either (because it's sweetened.) I've been eating Uncle Sam cereal which has 10g of fiber per 3/4 cup serving. I usually eat it with berries too, whichs ups the fiber. If you like your cereal sweet you'll have to add sweetener seperately though. I also get a good amount of fiber from La Tortilla Factory tortillas. The 8-inch ones have 8g of fiber and only 50 calories. The large "burrito size" ones have 14g of fiber and 80 calories. Another good fiber source (and omega-3s) is flaxseed meal. I put 1 Tablespoon on my yogurt with berries (I use thawed frozen berries--no spoilage.) GrammyL~ I like to make tostadas too! When fish is a good price I like to steam it and use that on the baked tortilla with all the fixings. Yummy! BTW, Your roses are beautiful! I only grow veggies and I'm not realy even good at that yet, so I'm amazed my people who can grow roses. We have so many aphids here, I don't think I could keep them up. Allinnell~ I don't remember seeing Bobbi's recipe, but I love tvp sloppy joes! My recipe calls for cooking the veggies in water and then adding the tvp dry with the other ingredients. I was amazed how much liquid it absorbed the first time I made it. I may have to make that this weekend now. :hun: Everyone have a great day! You are all doing great! :broc: (I had to throw that in--I think it's new.) |
Hello,
Hope all are having sunny days today. Its cold. but the sun IS shinning. gotta love it. For those who mentioned the protein diet to me...I agree from my research, that I will NOT do the High protein diet. Just going to keep up the slow and steady. no races! The american heart asso. also said that "Yes, you will loose. but... Because the weight loss is generally coming from the wrong place, and once the diet ends, the pounds come back." ""Drawbacks "Much of the weight lost with the Atkins diet is water," says Karol Watson, MD, co-director of the UCLA Program in Preventive Cardiology. Watson explains that eating only protein forces the body into starvation mode because most tissues, including the brain, typically prefer to run on glucose, or blood sugar, which is supplied by carbohydrates. On a carb-deprived, high-protein diet, trouble sets in. "When there is not enough carbohydrate to convert into blood sugar, the body is forced to use stored blood sugar from the liver and muscles," Watson tells WebMD. "This process results in muscle breakdown. Because muscle is mostly water, one will lose weight very rapidly in the first few days. If the carbohydrate restriction is prolonged, the brain eventually will run on fat stores for fuel, called ketosis." Unfortunately, ketosis brings with it more than weight loss, but a host of problems -- some serious. "Ketosis is associated with irritability, headaches, and enhanced kidney work," says Johnston. "Also, ketosis may cause heart palpitations and has been implicated in cardiac arrest." The effect of high-protein diets on the heart doesn't stop there -- the cardiovascular system comes into play as well. "High-protein diets are often also high in saturated fat," says Watson. "Increased saturated fat intake raises the risk of coronary heart disease and stroke. In addition, some high-protein/low-carbohydrate diets limit intake of high-fiber plant foods, which can help lower cholesterol." Overall, these diets might be power-packed in the protein department, but beyond that, they're lacking. "High-protein diets lack critical nutrients," says Watson. "Restricting carbohydrates means you restrict plant-based foods, which are rich in phytochemicals and antioxidants. These chemicals offer protection against cancer and other diseases."" http://www.webmd.com/diet/features/p...n-diets?page=2 I am sure that their some it works for. But when I look at the menus for the week. I don't feel like its for me. To much meat not enough veggies or fruits. Curves keeps pushing it. The owner is not going to be happy. But its my health, not her's. ;) Bobby, My house is like yours too. Yes my keys even have a home. My dd won't put my canned food away. She thinks I am tooo picky. lol . You should see HER room. :fr: Oh, where do you get Guar gum? I have heard the name. Never seen it. Lara I agree about the change in my way of eating. Its not completely where it should be... I am still working on it though. I have canned veggies and fruits that only my hubby eats. I have always preferred the frozen or fresh. No pop either. Its been a month since I have had a coke. So far Its been easy to not drink it. You and Bobby have a strong stomach. The is NO way, I could clean out a stall. Not a city girl. but... yuk! I would think riding horses would be great excersise. Do you ride alot? its been years! Oh, I am so envious. I can not grow a rose. Maybe we need some off that natural fertilizer!! |
Hi everyone!!! :)
GrammyL-Your roses are beautiful! I really started getting into gardening and landscaping about 5 years ago, when we bought our first house. I started very simple-with wildflower seeds in one part of the yard, 2 small rosebushes in a small raised bed, and basically tried to "see if I could do it". Now that we moved into the newly built house-this year I am starting from scratch. I am very interested in getting a climbing rose, and planting it with a trellis...but I have a question for you or Bobbolink-what do you do different with a climber in the winter, than you would do for a regular rose bush? With them climbing up a trellis, etc. how do you protect them? I really want a white rose climber to coordinate with our house. (Light tan siding on top, tan/beige/brown shades of brick on bottom, and white trim around the windows/porch pillars, etc.) Yesterday I ended up at around 1600 calories (I currently lose on 1500-1600 a day) and I walked on the treadmill. Today I am aiming for the same calorie-wise, and I am strength training. I have been really busy today-paying the bills, mailing out Saber's new pictures to family, running errands, laundry, and going to the store. I go to Aldi's to buy "basics" for cheap-cannisters of oatmeal, frozen broccoli, cat litter, etc. and then I hit the regular grocery store for the other stuff. |
WOW! Thanks for all the fiber info. I can't wait for berries at the farmers market, and I'm definitely getting the fiber One again. The tortillas Zenor mentioned sound interesting. I hope they taste good:)
|
Thanks, littlered!
I printed up the list of high-fiber foods and plan to consult it before grocery shopping. Now I want peaches. :) |
Aphil ~ Here is the good picture of the archway. We are thinking about putting a second right beside it because it keeps tipping to the side. I originally had it on a trellis but it became to large so I bought the archway. Now its to big for the archway. I have to trim it back a few times a year to keep in under control. I don't do anything special for it in the winter, I just cute the dead off in the spring. Other than trip it, I just make sure it gets watered in the dry season in the late evening. Mine is from a very old stock and they require lots of TLC.
OPS I will attach it to the next post, it didn't show up. |

Here it is. It is now that full on both sides and I make sure its trimmed.

Here are pics of my horses.
Smoke is the big black horse and I ride him. Lady is the light brown horse and that is my DD's. Peek-a-boo is my pony and he has the two white socks in the back. Theresa ~ I am aiming for two days a week for ridding Smoke and two days driving Peek-a-boo. Last year I was lucky to get two days a week for both. Time constraints. I actually like the smell of dry horse poop. If it were fresh, now that would be another story. My horse usually comes in and looks at me leaves a pile and walks back out but he didn't do it last night. I have to stay we had pigs and that is about the worst. I would gage some mornings and you could smell it all the way out to the road. Some people say it is good exercise but all I do is walk my horse because he is hard to stop. I just do it for fun. |
Zenor ~ My DH is Mexican so we are adapting a lot of their traditional recipes to healthier version. What people don't realize is a lot of their recipes are actually healthy but the homemade tortillas are really high in fat and they do like to add fat where they could go without.
I missed it, I would like the sloppy joe recipe. My DD and I were just talking about wanting some the other day and I told her I would have to find a healthy way to make them because the canned stuff has to much sugar. I used to have a recipe that I think was weight watchers and that was delicious but I have since lot it. Need some words of advise. I want to try to nicely tell my neighbor to leave me alone without causing hard feelings. She just wants to be with me from the time I get out of work until its time to go to bed. She doesn't have a life, no hobbies, kids are grown, and her DH ignores her. So, she is over to my house constantly and I miss out on ridding my horses, last year using the pool (no longer have it), gardening/flowers, you name it. I can't even go to town without her. It wouldn't be bad but she is a very negative person and it rubs of on me. Any suggestions? Hints don't work because I told her last year I need to start using my horses more and walking less or I will have to break down and sell one. She still came over every night, even when she saw me getting ready to use one of the horses. I may not be around this weekend because DH really frowns on computer use when he is home and I don't blame him. He has been gone for a month so I am going to concentrate on him. Have a great weekend! |
Lara.
nice roses and horses! pig smell... big yuk. actually when I was in school, strawberry perfume was big. I bought some to where in front of a boy I rode to school with. He worked on a pig farm... He pulled his car over and was going all through it. When I asked him why, he said that he must have missed some of the manure when cleaning his car. Cause get this... He said it smelled real sweet, like strawberries! LOL I never wore it again. now I rarely wear any purfume. Makes my allergies crazy. I hope you have a wonderful week end. My hubby did the 28 days out. I hated it. Now he's home to stay! :) |
Hi everyone,
First of all, I'm feeling a little better today and wanted to thank everyone for their well wishes. I'm just trying to 'refuse to be sick,' and so far it seems to be working. Second of all, I got to move my ticker DOWN today... boy, that felt good. Today was our last day of Biggest Loser at work, and it was nice not to go out on a plateau (or worse, a gain). Thanks to all who wished me well at my 'weigh' in. My friend and I have decided to continue to weigh in on Fridays and keep the accountability going. I'm actually looking forward to it. It sure helps to have support! Chloe - I eat a Frigo "Light" Cheesehead string cheese most days at work with a few crackers. They are 60 calories. They are a little bit smaller than some other string cheeses, but for me it's fine with an apple or a few crackers. Have a great Friday! |
Not only did I fall off, but I think the wagon ran me over...
Oh boy, it has been quite a week already and then today snuck up on me. Today would be my father's 73rd birthday if he were still around and it hit me around lunch time. I was holding up okay (or so I thought.) But life goes on and we had an art counsel meeting to go to (they had appetizers & wine.) Of course some friends wanted to go out to a new restaurant and you know what happened next...
Calories for today: 2392 Fat 31% Fiber 53 grams Okay, so, at least the fiber is good. I just feel so, um, terrible. I realize that viewing this as a "day off" is okay and I'll just begin again tomorrow. I still feel like a failure though. I thought that I had better control over my emotional eating. I guess I have more work to do on that than I thought. I hope that none of what I lost this week comes back. But if it does, well, we'll tackle that if it happens. I'm sorry if this seems so negative guys! I knew there would be a few "bumps" on this journey; I just didn't expect to feel this awful about it. Thanks everyone for letting me vent. I hope everyone has a good weekend. |

Zenor - I'm really sorry to hear about your tough day thinking about your dad... that's not easy. Don't feel bad about the food... it happens, and it probably could've been worse. You've been doing great and I know you'll get back on track. Hang in there!!!
Ok, it 1:30am. I know I'm officially on spring break, but this is a bit ridiculous. I'm off to bed... |
It never ceases to amaze me the amount of knowledge I get from reading this Post! You guys certainly know your stuff. It's been a really good day for me Hoping to get out and walk tomorrow! And Grammy Your roses made me smile after a hard day at work! Have a good day CCers!

Well, I'm back again!!! My weight is up to 192.5 after a vacation in Key West and a week with my sister here in sunny Florida.
I did my walking DVD for 1 mile Thurs. and will do it today, aiming for 5/times/wk. Will start the calorie counting again as of today. First goal will be 10 lbs. We have more company arriving for Easter week which includes 2 grandchildren ages 2 and 5. So I will have to have some goodies in the house.....it's going to be a tough week while they are here. But they love the beach so I can get some walking done on the beach and work on a tan at the same time!!! I was reading back thru some of the old posts and glad to see some other 62 yr. old women here......I thought I was the Granny of the group. Phyllis |
