Well, it took me two extra days to get some decent food back in the house, but I'm all stocked up now with fresh food. First day back to eating "real" food last night, and first day back to counting today.
Total for today: 1728 (the range I shoot for is 1600 to 1800) It was hard to eat all that, since I mostly was in the mood for veggies and had gotten out of the habit of eating every 2 or 3 hours. Also, I got a new (to me) bike today, which should help me with my goal of getting ready to do a 30 mile ride by the third week of June. :carrot: Cheryl |
Good morning ladies.
Diva, thank goodness for 76 year old men. Regardless, you have so darn much to be proud of. And somehow I just can't get an image of you being a lazy "slob". Uh-uh. No way. Coolmom, congrats on your 3rd boy. I have the opposite. 3 girls. Cheryl glad you got the house restocked. Aphil, I agree with you on the dark chocolate, cool mint combo. Whoever came up with that one, well I'm not sure if I should thank them or spank them. ;) Bobbo, I hope everything went well yesterday. Been thinking of ya. Hope the rest of the gang is all well and fine. Monday's calories - about 1200. Have a great and healthy and safe day everyone. |
GOOD MORNING!
Wow, everyone is doing so well. Congrats to all and keep up the good work. Coolmom ~ Welcome to the group and congrats on your little bundle of joy. I always gained a lot when I was pregnat and relost. Sad thing is that was many years ago and here I am only 10 lbs less than when I had my oldest. Little bit irritating. I used to be long to TOPS and I even have a TOPS book still. I should review it. It is also a calorie counting program and that is one of the reasons I am back to calorie counting, I did really well with it. Cheryl ~ Glad your back on track, I bet you feel fantastic today. I wish I would crave veggies. I don't mind them but never crave them. Theresa ~ Wow, you were active yesterday. Makes me feel like a real slacker with only 30 minutes of walking. I know the feeling, I feel like I am doing everything right but going no where. I could kick it up a notch but I am just really tired right now and my back still hurts from all the painting. I just need to be patient but patients is not one of my strong points. Mondays calories: 1377 Very bloated today. They had a sale on Louis Rich Marinated Turkey Tenderloins. I realized they were a little high in sodium but they must be higher than what I remember. OH MY GOSH. My fingures feel like water balloons and my rings are so tight I can't move some of them. I don't think I will be buying those anymore, sale or no sale. Thanks for all the input on the FitDay exercise portion. I thought it was off, would be nice to live in that fantasy land but I thought I would ask. |
rocknrobin-"thank them or spank them"
Coolmom-welcome!!!!!!!!!!! I just had my third baby 7 months ago-he is soooo big! He just got his first tooth about a week and a half ago, and has started crawling the past 2 days. He is into EVERYTHING. He goes over to the dvd cabinet, and starts frantically getting them all out into a pile on the floor. I remove him, put them away, he cries. Repeat. Hi everyone else!!! :) I have been really ill the past two days. I taught class last night, and was pretty much worthless. My middle child, Raiden, brought home the elementary school plague about 2 weeks ago-and it turned into strep throat, a cold, and pneumonia. He passed it on to the baby and myself this week. Blech. Hopefully I will be on the mend over the next few days-as I have to go out of town this weekend to vend at a dance event. I am taking it easy this week-simply because I can't breathe. No cardio for me until I can, obviously. |
Lara,
I walked yesterday real early, by the time I got back on the treadmill, the 10 clock news was on. Gave me something to look at. I took the bigger better tv to the garage. my old one was hard to see across the garage. And I could barely hear it over my very old treadmill. Now I can see and hear it. Hubby ran a splice from the back bedroom with satalite!! He is so behind what I am doing. I think he secretly wanted me to do this :woops: but he is a sweety, loves me as I am. I am sending you some WILLPOWER! You can do it! :dust: Aphil, Hope you feel better soon! You take care of the little ones. hope someone helps take care of you too. :getwell: Cheryl, Lucky girl! wish I could do the bike. My knees have not let me for years. As kids we had to ride. lived 5 miles from town. Miss that it was fun. 30 mile ride, WOW!! |
Good Morning Everyone!
Thanks for all the well wishes on my test yesterday. It was good news, no polyps or growths. I have a little diverticlosis, Doc said that was common in my age group and to eat lots of high fiber foods and plenty of water. A bunch of us are starting a thread called ~Fiber Fanantics~ in the general section for supporting each other in upping and maintaining our fiber. Thank you Robin for the name, good choice. :encore: I dropped 3.5 pounds from my 40+ hours without food but this morning I'd already put two back on. I'm sure I'll see the other 1.5 pounds back by tomorrow morning. Grammy... I think it's fun too, what's really interesting to me is the nutrition section where you can see what vitamins/minerals you're lacking. Quote:

Calories... 563 Fat...14% Fiber... 12 grams (I stayed away from anything with high fiber for reasons you can guess at) Mini Delights (bagged 90 calorie snack pack) I ate these and the bag they were packaged in as soon as I got home!:D Orange Roughy Spinach 2 slice low cal toast Fruited Jello Popcorn Milk It's suppose to get in the 60's here today and I'm going to hang a load of clothes out even tho we have at least 4 feet of snow under my clothes line. Sleeping on fresh, crisp sheets is going to be awesome after the long, snowy winter. Have a good food choice day everyone! Bobbi |
Well yesterday was my first day back ended day with 1271 but was not able to find time for the eliptical. Today is a new day i should be able to get in at least 20 mins on it this evening. Have a good day everyone!
|
Bobbi ~ That is fantastic news, nothing out of the ordinary. Did the doctor suggest how much fiber he would like to see you have? I did my FitDay for today and my fiber is 41 g. I planned my meals out this morning. I like to do it in advance so I am less likely to slip.
Cheryl ~ Thank you for the willpower, I need it. This is just a confusing time for me on where to keep my calorie count. Almost all the different web pages I have gone to have told me for my age, height, weight and activity level (I always guess low even though I am active just to be safe) tell me to keep it between 1500 - 1800 and I will lose a lb a week. They don't suggest going lower because of risk of slowing my motabolism. Today I still below the 1500 so I may have an evening snack. I may fluctuate between 1300 - 1700. I really do believe in the calorie cycling to keep our body on its toes. HEHEHE! My DH is very supportive also but at the same time reluctant. I have always been heavy every since we met and he works out of town and worries a little. I keep telling him I don't want another man, he is trained. HEHEHE! |
Bobbi - Glad you got a clean bill of health (except for the little bit of diverticulitis). I must say, I find it kinda hilarious that the doc told you to eat lots of fiber -- you are the woman who astounded me with your daily fiber ranging between 50-60 grams or MORE. Can you really eat any more than that?? Well, maybe if you go on an exclusively FIBER ONE diet. Like I've said before, I really need to get some stock in that company! ;)
Anyway, glad to hear the news was good. Enjoy some food today! |
Lara--I completely understand; I can't run either. My knee caps move into strange places when I run, so the doctor told me "No running." Not that I'm complaining... I do admire people that are able to do it though.
Littlered--You were the one talking about your scale right? I had to get rid of our first (VERY expensive) digital scale because it had a will of it's own. It would fluctuate for a few minutes before it would settle on a number that looked even close. So, we went old school and bought a dial scale. I love it! It's reliable and I weight the same when I go to the doctor, so I'm pretty sure it's accurate. Bobbi--Congratulations on everything going well with your tests! :carrot: CoolMom--Welcome and congrats on the new baby! :congrat: Calories for Monday: 1469 Exercise: None I'm going to try to do my lunch hour walk today, but I'm still congested. I figured I'd try and if my lungs don't cooperate I'll turn around and try again later this week. I just realized that it's supposed to rain today... so maybe not. I hope the weather man is wrong today, I really need to get out and walk! :crossed: I hope everyone has a good Tuesday! |

He told me to eat more fiber and I told him I already did, averaging over 50 grams per day. He laughed and said he never had a patient that was able to quote exactly how much fiber they ate. He also said with that much fiber to drink lots of water. He didn't comment on how much fiber or water to drink. |
I'll bet he doesn't have any other patients who eat that much fiber either! Maybe you educated him a little! I just had some Fiber One and a Flat Out (the small ones -- have you seen them? They say for kids) with kidney beans, low fat cheese, and sliced onion. Getting ready to enter in fitday and see where the fiber is. BTW, I'm playing hookey from work today... I needed a mental health day! :D
|
Zenor ~ That sounds like it could be very painful with the knee caps moving. I have had knee problems since I was in high school for some unknown reason. I think I was to rough on them when I was a kid, people thought I was a boy. My DH always asks me why I would want to run anyway because I am very large busted and I would give myself a black eye. I always tell him funny, funny. They do really like flop around even in the best of harnesses.
Bobbi ~ Sounds like he was impressed with the amount of fiber your getting. I drink lots of water. The last diet I was on required us to drink 100 oz a day of just water. So, if you wanted coffee, pop, tea, flavored water, etc. it was in addition to the 100 oz. Needless to say I know every flaw in the bathroom here at work and at home. HEHEHEHE! I also know where there are lot of clean restrooms here in town. I don't drink that much anymore but I usually get in no less than 70 and I drink at least 32 oz of coffee in the morning also. So my kidneys are very flushed. |
aphil....I hope you ll feel better soon! I remember covering the dvds with a blanket and it was out of sight out of mind. LOL maybe it won't work, though.
bobbi...are those chickens in your avatar?? I have five chickens myself, in our suburban backyard. My blog linked below, yaks all about my two joys: my kids and my chickens. :D |
Zoe ~ What a beautiful family you have. What breed is your dog? We have a Shi Tzu and a rat terrior - only scarrier, family joke HAHAHAHA! He likes to show his teeth a lot, little tempermental. DH and I were going to get chickens until my farrier scarred us. She knows a few people that their horses got lice from their chickens and its not a pretty sit when a horse gets lice, they lose their fur. So we decided against them. I would still like to get a couple. We have horses and rabbits right now. We also tried our hands at pigs and calves. We did really good witht he pigs but the calf thought he was a horse and I couldn't ride my horses because he would get out or if we took just one horse, he would turn the other lose by lifting the gate up and putting on the ground. He had horns. What a pain and I lost a couple months of ridding because of him.
|
Zoe,
You have a beautiful bunch of boys there. and whom ever took the pics, is very good. The pics are great. Makes one wish they could start over again (for about 2 seconds.) ;) love mine, glad they are adults. But....You Just gotta love grandchildren. |
I'm going to an authentic Italian restaurant for dinner tonight that is one of the finest eateries in the area. I'm not crazy about pasta and that's a good thing because the Hershey bar in the vending machine was calling out my name at about 2:00 this morning.
I'm four cigarettes away from a smoke-free life and better than that, I'm wearing a MINI-DRESS tonight! Ha! Who said running miles and getting nowhere was a waste of time. Adam (tonight's dish) is HOT. And he can carry a conversation and match socks. What more can a girl ask for? He's also WAY younger! (I love it when we can do that!) A whole ten years younger. *tee hee* Bobbi, I shoot for 25 grams of fiber a day and I think I'm up to 12 on a good day. I haven't tried Fiber One. I saw it once and was sure someone had dug it out of my compost pile. Looked like the remnants of a campfire. All that wood and everything. I may give it a shot, though. When you quit smoking, you "feel" hungry a lot and the beauty of fiber is that it "fills" your stomach. Robin, you're right. I'm not lazy. I shouldn't put myself down like that. Bad stuff. But you know what it's like when you feel you should be doing something other than watching Lifetime for Women or whatever that channel is. You know the one... where Valerie Bertinelli is always ticked off at a brother-in-law. Grammy, I used to try to rely on willpower and it got me nowhere. So I got into the self-discipline kick. I started telling myself REPEATEDLY that I was one of the most disciplined people I knew and within no time (three weeks), my brain started believing the lie. This was years ago. I got into a groove of planning the next day the night before every night for fifteen minutes. Scheduled out the six most important things I had to do the following day. Got very organized and efficient with my time, so much so, that I started timing how long it took me to do EVERYTHING from laundry to dishes to showering to facials, you name it. In the end, I squeeze more out of a 16-hour day than most people I know. And I'm never late for anything. You get into a groove like this and everything you do will have purpose. I also invested in kitchen timers. I had three of them and I would set it to 20 minutes to clean the kitchen, bathroom, whatever. I knew I had to get the task done in that time and you'd be amazed how much extra time I found every day. As for the gym, running, all that stuff, I can't imagine my life without it. There are days when I want to go so badly but my body is aching and telling me to sit down and shut up. So I listen. I set new behavioral goals for myself each month (beats the New Year's Resolution garbage) and at the end of the year, I do inventory (on my birthday in December). It's amazing, girl! I adopt twelve new behaviors every year. Who can beat that? And I keep those behaviors so that it redefines who I am. December was calorie counting. January was running. February was reading. March was paper-processing (no more junk drawers or piles of mail staring at me). April will be bring lunch in to work. Get excited about redefining yourself. Figure out WHO you want to be and then map out the course that will get you there. Life begins when your children are grown. And my life has just begun! ;-) |
Hey all,
I'm back for another go at this weight loss thing. :D Thought I'd join the chat. Hi! Anyway, I have a question. How do you figure out what your goal weight should be? I put down 165 because in high school I was in good shape at 170 but had a bit of a pot belly. However, I'm 29 now and have definitely put on some muscle, so that might be too low. Any formulas or rules of thumb? |
Zoe~ You're my hero! Not only do have three beautiful children, but you're a cloth diaper mom! We don't have kids yet, but I'm researching everything in preperation for when we do (this is how I cope with all my friends being prego--I research  .) I've always liked the idea of cloth diapers.
I'm glad you chose to join us! I've only been on this forum for a short time, but it is so helpful. You'll be watching the number plummet in no time. :goodvibes |

For me my goal weight is still in process. I was anywhere between 125 and 155 until about a decade ago (in otherwords, in high school and shortly after.) I felt most comfortable around 145 and no one was telling me I looked like I needed to eat. I don't know if I can get back down to that weight or not (I'll be 30 soon), but according to my BMI a healthy weight for me is 149. I figure I'll try to get down to that and see if I want to go farther. You can always revise!:D |
Jman~you don't show your height, so it's a little hard to tell if that would be a good weight or not. But this is how I decided.....I lost a lot of weight several years ago and weighed 128. It was hard to maintain that, but when I gained a few pounds, I easily stayed between 133-135 for several years. That's why my goal is 133.
A lot of people re-evaluate from time to time to determine what their best weight is. 165 is a good start because you know what you looked like at that weight. Perhaps as you get close to that goal you should re-evaluate to determine if that is still a good number. The only other suggestion is to check your BMI and shoot for a weight within your healthy BMI. |

Hello everyone!
I'm new in calorie counting, I've been recording my food in fitday for about a month now, but I have some questions I was hoping you could clear up for me. Is it enough to not go over my calorie intake? I mean, this week for example I haven't been too good with my diet, I ate some fast food but managed to keep my calorie count around 1400. Will I still loose some weight? and the next question is: I cook almost all my meals, I don't add any kind of oil or grease to my cooking and no salt at all as I have high blood presure. Still I find my fats intake is high (At least I think so, an average of 33% in this past month.) How can I loose some fat on my diet? I eat mostly skinless bonelss meat or fish, very little read meat. I try to eat whole cereals and low fat dairies. I did buy some turkey sausage and those turned out to have too much fat and salt, so I'm not eating them anymore. any help will be much apreciated :) |
Grammy...we have a Shihtzu. He took 4 years to be potty trained, but I have to say he is now the best dog ever. He never barks and has a wonderful temperament. When he dies, though, It'll be hard to go back and do the puppy stage again. That was rough. We're still eagerly awaiting our first free range, organic egg to be laid from our chickens. :carrot:
Littlered...thank you! I have a photography business, part time as well as my part time nursing job. So my poor kids have a photographer mom 24/7 LOL. Zenor...cloth diapers can become quite a shopping addiction, and they aren't so cheap! But, I controlled myself this time and bought some second hand diaper covers and things. and we got lazy and bought a pack of Pampers to get us through the first couple weeks of poop-a-thon. I would have hung my head in shame, if I had even thought of doing that with my last baby. haha! |

Hi everyone :)
Jman, I arrived at my goal weight like Allinel. I looked really good at 126 but found that hard to maintain, yet I was able to maintain 128 so I'm shooting for that as I looked pretty good at that weight and felt healthy. I did have a lot of muscle tone but I'm short, so that weight was about right for me. Pick something reasonable to shoot for and when you get there you can re-evaluate. Diva, I'm a planner too but the total opposite when it comes to discipline. I skate through on luck mixed with a little (not a lot) bit of work and a lot of long range planning which I'm entitled to change. For me, being too disciplined creates stress and takes the joy out of life. Then again I only have 1 child and I just had her..I find life is still a blast with her, and I plan on keeping up with all my traveling and fun activities, only I'll have my little baby along for the ride (or her grammy will watch her on occasion :)). Vega, I think you should definitely lose eating 1400 calories, regardless of what it was you ate. I also have very high fat intake, but usually its the good kind of fats as I eat a lot of nuts. I really dont worry about it as long as the amount of saturated fat is low. But I have weeks where that's higher and since I dont have any health problems I really dont worry about it much. I feel as long as I"m eating reasonably healthy, I dont worry about being perfect. A great evening to everyone! |
CoolMom -- I had to look... they are too precious!!!!
Welcome to Vega Botain! The fast food may make your fat content go way up (saturated fat that is), which can slow down losing. But you will have to just experiment and see. If you are trying to curb your fast food eating, it helps to watch SuperSize Me. Again, welcome and good luck! |
"Zoe~ You're my hero! Not only do have three beautiful children, but you're a cloth diaper mom!"
I liked cloth diapers. Throw aways were still on the new side when my kids were young. I actually used a old wringer washer when I used diapers, and hung them on a line. Thank God!! we finally got rich enough to buy a real washer ;) my son thinks the cloth diapers are burp rags. ;) Hello Jman and Vega, Welcome. Diva, Wish sometimes we lived closer to a large city. Maybe then we could check out an authentic Italian restaurant. Does pizza count? 4 cigs. go girl! I quit a few years back. I am really glad when I see how much they cost. $4 pk! I remember buying my first carton for $5.00. Good luck. I am sure You will do this as well as you do the rest of your life. Theresa |
SO I have been a part of 3FC for a while now...but really have not gotten servious about my weight loss, and in turn have gotten to my all time high of 200 pounds. I have done calorie counting in the past. but when I missed a day of counting I just let myself go. So I decided that if I joined this daily chat that would help keep me on track. I do have a fitday account.
I have decided to eat 1500-1700 calories a day, plus trying to do 30 minutes of exercise a day. IS this a good goal? Today I ate 1483 calories |
hi, all.
Total for today. Cal: 1644 Fat: 22% Carbs: 46% Fiber: 50 gr. Protein: 32% Not 75 gram of fiber, oops to many in fitday for the pea pods. did not check the amount it put... treadmill 40 min, did 2 miles. Theresa |
I just realized I probably should be checking in !! Sorry, I'm new, I'll get it eventually :^:
Calories for today: 1411 I've been logging my food for the past few days...I have GOT to lay off the granola. It is my serious weakness -- mixed with yogurt, that is. I'm off to do my homework...nice to hear from you all. Candy |
Calories were a little high today i came in @ 1443 thanks to those darn gs cookies! But on a good note i was able to get 20 mins in on the eliptical:D
|
Today's calories were at 1865, with 300 burned on the elliptical. Argh! Wish I could have a lower day tomorrow but somehow I doubt it. I had slowed down for a few weeks but my appetite is back.

Todays Calories: 900
Total Burned: 404 :) not bad! a little low but in my opinion its better than being too high! 23% were from fat but thats ok because the only fat i had today was from my roasted nuts and a few here and there. I'm getting excited for my weigh in on sunday because i have already lost 1.5 pounds since i joined this board! |
Hello Everyone!
Calories for today: 1668 A little high, but we went out for Thai food tonight and it was impossible to pass on the Pahd Thai and my favorite squid salad. At least I hadn't gone completely crazy earlier in the day. We just got back from Trader Joe's and I discovered a new thing for when you must have something sweet, Lemon and Chocolate Meringue cookies (two separate packages--the flavors aren't mixed.) They are only 26 calories each for the large ones (for the lemon) and approx 8.5 calories for the mini ones (chocolate.) Even my full-fat-loving DH liked them. I didn't get out for my walk and I'm actually glad. I think I might still be too congested to exercise right now. Plus it did rain and as gloomy as it was we really need it around here. I'll get back into swing of things as soon as I feel better. Aphil~ I hope you don't have what I have. It's hanging on for dear life. I hope you feel better soon! Littlered~You must have had (have?) some nice biceps when you were using a wringer washer! Washers are one convenience I am glad to have. :wel3fc: to Vega, Stephyk, Candy, and anyone else I might have missed! |
1638 cals today. (1700 goal)
missed my walk. I tried to snap on my baby/kid carrier, to contain my 3 year old in Subway today, and the belt was too small. waaaah! It was my first try since having the baby. More incentive to shed the chub. |
Good Morning!
This is the second time I'm posting, I tried to download a couple of pictures off a CD and I lost everything in the process. I'll post the pictures and re-write everything on another post. Grammy... We've never had problems with lice in our chickens, we're pretty isolated out in the country and the chickens are fenced in so they don't get near any critters. CoolMom... We purchased 25 baby Orpington chicks and ended up with only 5 hens, the rest was all rooster. We butchers all but two roosters. "Chief" is in the picture below and he used to fight with the other rooster all the time so we took him out. We grew to love him so much that we couldn't eat him. The other one is the one we should have shot, his name was "yellow legs". He became over protective of the hens and would attack Bruce every time he went in to collect eggs. He only did that once to me, then off with his head. I took great pleasure in eating him! This sounds really cruel to you city slickers, sorry! The 5 hens we were left with turned out to be plenty, in the summer they lay over 40 eggs per week. Way more than we can eat but our extended families enjoy free organic eggs. In the fall they molt and you won't see any eggs for about 6 weeks, once the new feathers come back in you're in business again. Since we live in Minnesota we have a heating lamp in the chicken coop and the hens don't lay many eggs. They used their energy to keep warm. We love all our hens, they are all so sweet. Whenever they see us go out the back door they come running, we feed them expensive grapes everyday for a treat. We actually lose money on them since we give away all the extra eggs, but we enjoy them. Well, I'm going to send this and see if it works. Bruce (DH) is in one of the pictures thinking he's funny with his gun. |
Ha! I'm not as dumb as I thought I was.

Ummm, Bobbo, he IS funny with his gun. What a different life you have. I just couldn't imagine living that way. I guess you couldn't imagine living a different way either. It's what you get used to. Those are the yellowest chickens I've ever seen.
Tuesday's calories - about 1200. Have a great day everyone. |
