Calorie Counters Chat-March 2007!

Let's see how this goes! ;)

Amy (Aphil)

aphil 03-01-2007 08:11 AM

Most of you know me...but for those of you who don't, here is a quick rundown:

I am in my early thirties, a married mother of three children (Jasmine-8, Raiden-5, and Saber-6 months) and I am a professional belly dancer/dance teacher. My husband is is named Jason, and he is Native American (Oglala Sioux) and he is an engineer in the auto industry. He works in glass tempering. He basically builds the furnaces that temper safety glass-making it so when you get in an accident, the glass breaks up into chunks, rather than sharp shards.
My weight issues stem from #1-emotional eating/stress binging every now and then, and #2-being a gestational diabetic. This causes me-even when on a proper diet and regular exercise-to gain a lot of weight when I get pregnant, and to have very large babies. (my smallest was a 9#3 preemie). So, after each baby, I have a lot of weight to lose. Saber was our LAST...so I am aiming at lifelong maintenance once I hit goal. :)

I am SORE. I have been hitting a lot of double workouts lately, since I have been teaching class 3x a week. Yesterday I did strength training with the focus on abs/core early in the day...and I taught my beginning class last night.
Saber has his 6 month checkup this morning, so I won't be able to workout until early afternoon. I am planning on doing some cardio, and then some dance technique work afterwards. Aiming for 1 hour+ of exercise today.
I have been 100% on plan with my eating for the past week-which is good. My weigh in last week I was down 3.7 pounds...so when I weigh in at the beginning of the week hopefully my results will be good. :)

How is everyone else doing?

Bobbolink 03-01-2007 08:21 AM

Good Morning again and Dang It All, I just spent 30 minutes gabbing and commenting to everyone and our electricity went off long enough to lose everything. I'll try again and if we lose it again, have a great day everyone.
Bobbi

Bobbolink 03-01-2007 08:30 AM

Here we go again!
Tuesday's and Wednesday's calories are on the other thread, I'll spare you my menu's.

Allison...I loved the "Cooking Light" Magazine and still have quite a few in my cupboard. I cancelled the subscription because I have enough cook books to open up a store. Please share any recipes you find that are awesome!

Rai... Thanks for the early Congrats on turning 62. I turn 62 in about 3 months but you have to register for Social Security 3 months ahead of time. Tell your dad that he is already a senior citizen and can get all the discounts, you're considered a senior citizen at 55 years of age.

Woodlily... Great calories and keep up all those gallons of water.

Cablgurl... Great calories for you too and :congrat: congrats on the lost pound.

I'm going to send this and continue since the lights are flashing.

Bobbolink 03-01-2007 08:45 AM

Chloe...... I think everyone has days like that, I don't often but yesterday I wasn't satisfied with anything. I usually have homemade vegetable soup in the freeze and I thawed that out. I had a huge bowl with my regular lunch and it helped. Then I was craving something sweet which is unusual for me. (I like Salty) My mom used to bake the extra pie crust with Cinn/Sugar when we were small and I had that on my mind. So I used a lite Flat Out, sprayed it with ICBINB, sprinkled Cinn/Stevia on it and baked until crisp in the Toaster oven. I was finally sated after that. I know some of you don't like using Splenda, I eat tons of it. I picked up a box of the Stevia packets at our health food co-op and there're not bad.

calories for yesterday: 1700
calories for today: 2035. ouch huh? i was just plain and simple hungry all day long, not sure why. i knew i was in trouble when it was 11:45am and i had already finished my lunch, and was still hungry :) so i figured sometimes you have to just listen to your body, and my body was saying 'feed me' all day! oh well, i would have liked to have had about 400 less calories, but honestly it just wasn't worth it today to be feeling hungry all day. does anyone else feel that they just seem to get hungry a lot more than other people? i just don't understand it when some of you say you eat 1200 cal/day and are rarely hungry...i am just always hungry! and yes, i eat the protein/good carbs/fiber all the time, and have even tried mimicing some of your Fitday's. anyway, sorry for the rant, it is just frustrating on a day like today when i feel like a bottomless pit!
Susan...BeeGees? How old are you?

aphil 03-01-2007 08:51 AM

Bobbi-I also like the Cooking Light magazine. My favorite one though, is "Light & Tasty". Have you ever read an issue?

Most of the recipes in it are sent in by people themselves, and they also have a section in it where in each issue they makeover a fattening recipe sent in by a reader, to make it more figure friendly. They have special sections in it as well for those who are diabetic, watching their carbs, etc.
They have a lot of quick recipes, and a lot of comfort food type recipes in it as well.

Bobbolink 03-01-2007 09:00 AM

One last time and I'm outta here!

Robin...I laughed when you said, "No glasses" when reading my post. Remember how old I am? Guess why I write so big? I have to get my face next to the computer when reading most posts :mag: Great calories yesterday at 1150!

Cacmsc... I hated coming home from work and starting supper so I used my crock pot two or three times a week. There are a zillion "Crock Pot" sites with recipes too!
Have you tried using a slow cooker?

Aphil... Hi There! A Belly Dancer huh? Is that you in the picture with the pretty green eyes? Years ago in my fantasies I wanted to be Scarlett O'Hara but with red hair and green eyes
I love the name of your son Saber, very unique!
Hi to everyone else including all the "Old Fashion Gang"
I'm really going to shut up now and go make breakfast.
Bobbi

Bobbolink 03-01-2007 09:07 AM

Okay, I lied! I just wanted to comment on Aphil message. I've read the Lt & Tasty magazines at my dentist office and I like them too. I have 8 hard book editions of the "Taste of Home" and the "Quick Cooking" which I think are put out by the same company as the Light and Tasty. I love to cook and use these cook books all the time.
Now I really have to make breakfast before our power goes out.

Bobbi-yes, that is me in the photo. Thank you for the compliment. :) I was actually a couple months pregnant with Saber when it was taken. A really great photographer named Tony Franz took it.

There is another photo in my profile-I was 2-3 months pregnant in that one, too. I am a little sweaty in it though-I had just finished dancing in a coffeehouse when it was snapped.

Thanks for the compliment about Saber's name. My husband is a huge Star Wars and sci-fi fan, and we are both in the 501st (if anyone saw the RoseBowl parade...) and he always wanted a sci-fi name for one of our children. I was opposed to Anakin, or Luke/Leia or anything too obvious, so I chose Saber (from lightsaber).

His middle names are Phoenix Tyree-he was named after my paternal grandmother who passed away a few years ago. Tyree was her Scottish maiden name, and in mythology, the Phoenix is a magical bird who lives to be very old, and then bursts into flame when it passes. Then it reincarnates itself into a "new baby" from its own ashes. I like to think that part of her has maybe come through in him. :)

Now you go and make breakfast...I need to get Saber to his checkup!
I'll be back later to report exercise and food.

rockinrobin 03-01-2007 09:28 AM

Well good morning to you all. I guess we've been merged!!!!

Aphil I LOVE your kids names, just love them.

A real quick summary. I am 43, married and have 3 daughters 19, 17 & 15. Yes, the 2 year plan, I wanted it over and done with. But now I've got THREE TEENAGED DAUGHTERS - YIKES. Anyway, they are my world.

I was mildly overweight til my early 20's, I hovered in the 130's. My weight steadily increased as I got married almost 21 years ago and had the kiddies. I never really yo-yoed, I just went up and up and up. To make a looong story short, I just got totally and completely disgusted with myself (thank G-d) and finally, finally decided enough is enough. I couldn't take the inactivity anymore and the constant worries. I finally realized that I can absolutely DO something about my weight, that it IS within my power and on September 4, 2006 I totally and completely changed my lifestyle. Started counting calories, eating healthy stuff and exercising. And the rest as they say is history.

I am looking forward to this new combined thread. Posting my daily calories helps to keep me accountable. I have a tough night coming up on Sunday, big family dinner at my SIL, who is a fabulous cook/hostess.

Wednesday's calories - about 1200

Have a great and healthy day everyone!!!

cablgurl 03-01-2007 09:29 AM

Yesterday was a tough day, at 1346 calories were a little higher than i would have liked them to be. While making dinner my stove shut down and we were not able to heat it up again, not sure what is wrong with it, dh and i are both home from work tomorrow we plan on fixing it then. for now we will be eating leftovers:(

I have been using recipes from the slimfast website and i also use looneyspoons and crazyplates they are low fat cookbooks with alot of fun facts and good cookin

Fat in Hong Kong 03-01-2007 09:52 AM

Hi to everyone! I got a little confused with this merger as I didn't see the poll thread until just now ... I guess the reason being because of the time difference between the US and Hong Kong ... so while everyone else was voting ... I was sleeping:tired: Anyway, I'm happy to post on either thread.

Just to put everyone in the picture of who I am ... I'm 44, married for almost 21 years, with two kids ... son 18, and daughter 14. I'm from the UK but I've been living in Hong Kong for the past 6 years due to hubby's job. I was slim throughout my teenage years and early 20's ... kids came along in my late 20's ... and so did the extra weight!! Yo-yo'd up and down for years ... but for the past couple of years there have been more ups than downs!!

So, here I am again, hoping that this time I will finally be able to get my old self back ... I know I'm inside this body somewhere!!

Catch up with you all again tomorrow ... For me its now time for bed ... Night, night!

Mami 03-01-2007 10:23 AM

Hi Gurlz :) I'm 38, just had my first baby named Lisa Angeline 8 months ago, and I work as a corporate attorney in New York City. I've lived here since I was a teenager, and plan to move to Tampa, FL in a few years..my sister is moving there in a few weeks so there will be lots of long weekend vacations coming up. As for my weight issue, I've always had to watch my weight but managed to stay in the "normal" range until I got pregnant. 8 months later and I'm still trying to get this baby weight off, and it is coming off, albeit slowly, thanks to your help friends. I feel I have some valuable insights about maintaining weight when that has been a life long struggle (I'm certainly not the naturally thin type). Hey, its a manageable struggle however and so worth it.

I was high yesterday at 1980 calories, and I only did 40 minutes on the elliptical at the gym rather than 1 hour. I cannot wait til my home elliptical arrives..its is STILL delayed and I'm just dying to get going on it IN MY OWN HOME. Sometimes I just want to get home and relax for a bit, see my baby, THEN work-out, or somedays I don't leave the house at all. Given my large appetite, this seems to be my only hope to reaching my goal before summer.

Have a great day all.

*Claudia*

AnAbsoluteDiva 03-01-2007 10:30 AM

Hello again...

Before I say one more word, I have to, must, insist on thanking you guys for being such girlfriends. Really! The PM's and the nudges, well wishes, pushes, slaps are all soooooo appreciated! I never thought I'd get this here and I can't thank you enough.

Yesterday I ate a chicken caeser salad and today I promise myself to eat three times. Even if it's just an apple. Still no appetite, but much less weepy.

I am in Stage 4 (depression) after getting through the first three stages (denial, anger, and bargaining). After this stage, comes acceptance, and I do believe I see a horizon out there. I really do! It's a long ways away and I'll get tired of swimming, but dammit if I haven't learned to tread water.

I went and got my body fat and measurements done today and I am so, so happy!

I lost a total of 8.5 inches on my entire body and gained a half inch on my chest (bench presseses) and half inch on my calves (running). I am so excited guys!

And here's a kicker. My oldest daughter MADE ME get a personal ad at Yahoo. You know what I mean, right? So I did it to shut her up and I've been there six days. I got 138 e-mails so far. Okay... so some of those guys look like they just got out of prison, and others look like they need to GO to prison, but I've chatted with two who are lovely, lovely people.

So yesterday, one drove from Albany, NY to have lunch with me in Southeastern Connecticut. We're talking almost four hours one way. He's a fighter pilot with the USAF and he melted me. Not in a stupid way where I'm going to fall into a stupid trap, but in the way one melts when one is in the presence of a MAN!

Lordy, Lordy, if this man wasn't sexy as all get out. Sometimes all a girl needs is to be NOTICED to turn things around just a bit.

So he leaves for Iraq TODAY (which is why he insisted on lunch yesterday) and he'll be gone for EIGHT MONTHS and then he'll be back in Newport, RI which is a jump, hop, and a skip from me. We'll write and talk by phone and I'll bake high-calorie cookies to send. And it's not a promise of a new relationship by any means, but man! It just feels so good when a man looks at you and gets a little bit gaga and stupid and stuttery. Yeah... he flies those jets and I make him nervous. Yippee for me!

Man No. 2 is equally lovely and much more local but we haven't met.

So no..... I'm not suggesting that I need a man to be complete (you kidding???) but doesn't it feel good to be wanted!

And ladies, again, my sincerest and humblest appreciation for extending a hand to me when I was at my lowest!

I promise to eat. I promise to run. I promise to lift. And I promise to stick around.

As for these cigarettes, well... we got Detox and we got Hetox. To **** with all bad habits!

;-)

PS - If you want to read the profile (good for a laugh or two), search personals at yahoo for a 47-year-old female in zip code 06355. You'll recognize the mug shot!

And mami, you native New Yorker, I'm planning to spend a day in the city! Would love to meet you for lunch!!!

athenac 03-01-2007 10:30 AM

I've never really got myself into these chatting threads, but I'm going to try with this one. A quick summary: I'm 23 and hovering in the 190s. I've been struggling with my weight since my early teens. I've battled OCD since then and am still an emotional eater. I'm currently in college, and although it can be easy to eat right, I'm finding it hard to find time to exercise. I know that's a poor excuse, but I'm trying. For the last few days, I've made myself get up an hour early to do yoga.

Yesterday was not a good day. It was my Dad's birthday, and my Mom made homemade Stroganoff, which is a rarity. I can never resist my Mom's cooking when it's from scratch. There was also banana cream pie, but I didn't have a piece. Instead, I ate a handful of oatmeal cookies and like 10 mini reece's cups. Overall, my calories came to about 2500. Eek.

Today will be a better day.

Mami 03-01-2007 10:43 AM

Diva, good to see you're back. When you go online you realize there are just SO many guys out there..hot ones at that..and all those choices makes you start to forget about the old guy as there are so many more out there. Would love to meet up in the city for lunch. PM me with the details.

Aphil, I just subscribed to the Light & Tasty magazine and website. I was just thinking how some of my lower cal dishes haven't turned out as great as my other cooking, yet I know the substituted dishes can come out so good. One problem is that DH does not eat ANY veggies (even onions), so it makes it hard to add them to things I'm cooking. I did substitute fat free cheese in my lasagna and he loved it..LOL..didnt notice the difference, but next time I plan on using turkey meat and I'm wondering how he'll go for that.

I am glad that you went out, and a little bit of new male attention has lifted your spirits a bit. :)

Hi athenac! I just wanted to add, that I also suffer from OCD, ever since I was a child-although I wasn't diagnosed until I was an adult...then you have one of those "OOOOOOOOooohhhh..." type of moments, where you realize all of the signs and symptoms over the years...as you probably know, people with OCD are more prone to panic/anxiety attacks, and depression, and other related issues-and I have bouts of those as well. I am a type A personality-a real headstrong perfectionist, and it really makes for a stressful existence at times. PM me if you ever need to talk about any of it. :)

AnAbsoluteDiva 03-01-2007 11:15 AM

A boricua who doesn't eat onions???

He was adopted!

But Spanish folks (especially MEN) are so weird about vegetables. I think they just had too much verdura and yucca and platanos growing up. LOL

I will let you know about NYC. As soon as that thermostat hits 50, we're on!

alinnell 03-01-2007 12:41 PM

Good morning everyone!!!

Diva~so glad to hear things are looking up. We were worried about you.

I'll have to look for the Light & Tasty magazine. That sounds good. For those of you who want a good recipe, here is one that I made from Cooking Light and it was sooooooo good!

Four-Cheese Vegetable Lasagna

From Cooking Light
This lasagna from our November/December 1992 issue proves a welcome change from your standard meat-and-tomato-based dishes. The creamy white sauce in this meatless version complements the spinach and fresh broccoli. A lasagne isn't a lasagna unless it's both filling and flavorful--and this one is that and more.

12 uncooked lasagna noodles
2 teaspoons vegetable oil
Cooking spray
2 cups chopped broccoli
1 1/2 cups thinly sliced carrot
1 cup sliced green onions
1/2 cup chopped red bell pepper
3 garlic cloves, minced
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
3 cups 1% low-fat milk
1/2 cup (2 ounces) grated fresh Parmesan cheese, divided
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 (10-ounce) package frozen chopped spinach, thawed, drained, and squeezed dry
1 1/2 cups 1% low-fat cottage cheese
1 cup (4 ounces) shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup (2 ounces) shredded Swiss cheese
Freshly ground pepper (optional)

Cook lasagna noodles, omitting salt and fat. Drain; set aside.

Preheat oven to 375°.

Heat oil in a Dutch oven coated with cooking spray over medium heat until hot. Add broccoli and next 4 ingredients (broccoli through garlic), and sauté 7 minutes. Set aside.

Place flour in a medium saucepan. Gradually add milk, stirring with a whisk until blended. Bring to a boil over medium heat; cook 5 minutes or until thick, stirring constantly. Add 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper; cook 1 minute, stirring constantly. Remove from heat; stir in spinach. Reserve 1/2 cup spinach mixture for top layer of casserole, and set aside.

Combine cottage cheese, mozzarella, and Swiss cheese; stir well. Spread 1/2 cup spinach mixture in bottom of a 13 x 9-inch baking dish coated with cooking spray. Arrange 4 lasagna noodles over spinach mixture in dish; top with half of cottage cheese mixture, half of broccoli mixture, and half of remaining spinach mixture. Repeat layers, ending with noodles. Spread reserved 1/2 cup spinach mixture over noodles; sprinkle with 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese. Cover and bake at 375° for 35 minutes. Let stand 10 minutes before serving. Sprinkle with pepper, if desired.

I love reading about everyone else and hearing more about you all!!!

As for me, I'm 27 and have been married 7 years this July. I have two dd's, one is 3 1/2 and the other is 15 months. THey keep me very busy. I've always been on the chunky side my whole life, but never hugely overweight until I got married. I went from about 170 to about 212 at my highest point. I didn't gain any weight with either of my pregnancies as I was sick through both of them, so I actually lost about 10-15 lbs with each. So far, I've been successful to get down to where I am now and I guess I'll just keep plugging along.

I'm also an emotional eater and especially late at night which is bad. I've banned myself from putting anything into my mouth except water after 8:30pm. It has helped immensly. What makes dieting hard is that my dh and his whole family are obese and are always eating at every family function..and not healthy either. DH has recently started counting calories and exercising with me as well, and has managed to go from 353 to 333 since January. It's been helpful for me to have him right there with me in this.

I'm trying t eat between 1500-1800 calories a day and have steadily been losing 1.5-2lbs a week. While that's not huge, it's better than nothing and I'm happy with that. I would love to be around 150 for my wedding anniversary in june and that is my current goal that I'm working towards.

It's nice learning more about you all and I can't wait to read more and chat with you all more!

I know it seems obvious, but I would eat some protein, like chicken, and maybe some vegetables. My new favorite vegetable side dish is green beans with "no-calorie" spray butter and a little feta and black pepper.

Hello to everyone.

it is good to get to know new people. I hope to be here for awhile.
I have never tried to work like this for a new body. I will do it.

Thanks for the ideas. Yeah I know it seems obvious to alot of you, I am working on it. :) :spin: :carrot:

I am used to cooking for the family. Now I get to learn to cook for me.:)
now its what I need. Not what I can fill a bunch of hungry tummy's.

srmb60 03-01-2007 03:23 PM

Oh look at all the lovely calorie counters! :cloud9: Have I mentioned lately that I think calorie counting is THE thing?!

I've been here soooo long ... I feel redundant saying anything more about me and who I am ....
I'm 46. A wife for over 27 years and mother of three. The lad is 25, the princess is 23 (and married last spring), the boy is 20. I've been a nurse in the same small rural hospital for over 27 years.
I have depression/anxiety issues and definite compulsive tendencies. Most of the time I can channel that into food and exercise planning.:^:
I'm not particularly crafty but I dabble in all kinds of things.
We're renovating our house.
About 3 years ago I decided that maybe I wasn't old, weary and a sturdy Flemish woman. I walked and counted calories. Since then I've 'graduated' into sturdier cardio and weight lifting.
I'm a 'bouncer' who has not mastered maintaining yet.
I need 3FC and fitday.com to keep me mentally in the groove.

BTW Bobbi ... I had an 8track of the BeeGees with New York Mining Disaster on it ;)

ThePickle 03-01-2007 03:49 PM

Happy Thursday all! I'm new here as well. 25 yo divorced w/2 kiddies 6 and 4. Been hovering around 215 for past 2 yrs, and ready and willing to drop finally!

jamsk8r 03-01-2007 03:57 PM

Hi Littlered, lots of veggies...I find mushrooms really filling myself, or broccoli, carrots, etc. I usually brown something in the nonstick skillet, like a little bit of shredded cooked chicken, mushrooms, bell peppers, or whatever, then put that over salad greens instead of rice, maybe a small chopped tomato on top if I can spare the calories.

For the group, I'm Cheryl, 37, my son is 10 y.o., he homeschools and I'm a single mom so I work at home. Today is day 6 for me of calorie counting. It's going well on that front, but I was never really too into food. I pretty much don't care what it is that I eat, I just never thought about it much and was eating a lot of burgers and high calorie junk before, and I found out I was getting a lot of calories from my hot tea with milk and sugar added, so I've been slowly cutting down on that, which helps a lot.

My sister and I made an agreement yesterday for a challenge, to train up and ride in a 30 mile bike ride that is happening near the end of June. My personal goal is to try and lose 30 lbs and build up to 30 miles on the bike by that bike ride, which is right before my birthday. I chose the 30 lbs because that would put me under 200 lbs. I plan to join the YMCA later this month, when I can afford it, so that my son can swim more, and I can get into the weight room. I did that many years ago, and really enjoyed it. That might mess with my weight goal, but I'm okay with that as long as I'm getting leaner and losing the fat. The bike ride will definitely be a challenge, because my second 2 mile ride, which I did this morning, was really hard to get through. I will stick it out, though, and I'm sure things will get better. Lot of "new" muscles waking up this morning, though, ouch!

Cheryl

Well, as long as we're telling our stories.....

I'm 43 (44 this month), married for 18+ years, 2 kids, DD 16, DS 12. I work with DH in our construction business. The year after my DS was born, I lost a lot of weight and got down to 128. I kept it off for about 5 years and then the stress of work made me gain it back, plus some. I quit the stress-producing job and decided to lose weight again. I know I won't get back to 128 (don't want to--was too skinny), but I'm having a tough time getting to my goal at this point. I'd love a kick in the butt to get me to work out, but DH isn't the one to do it and I really don't have any fitness-minded friends to do it for me either.

Hi to all the calorie counting girls! I'm on the new side here at 3FC, and this is the thread I have been reading most regularly for 3 months (well, it was 2 threads, but you know what I mean). I was the kind of kid who would read the back of the cereal box while eating breakfast, and I actually enjoy reading what everyone eats and all the little tips people give here... very motivating! I love reading cookbooks and recipes as well...will have to check out those mags!

A little about me...I've been fairly active and athletic most of my life, but I had some pretty intense health issues about 5 years ago. I had lots of joint and muscle pain, tingly hands and feet, and severe lethargy. I was tested for many things, from MS to rheumatoid arthritis, but never got any diagnosis. Several illnesses were ruled out, which I thought was reassuring, but it was frustrating not to know. Needless to say, it was a pretty low period for me. My activity level dropped to almost nothing but light walking for about 6 months. I gradually came through most of the symptoms, though not completely, but I feel so much older and slower now. I do have a regular workout buddy (we walk, go to the gym, sometimes bike), which is a huge help. There are many many days I would do nothing if she was not at the gym waiting for me!

I have been calorie counting on fitday and really like it. I've lost 6 lbs. since January, so I'm losing at a snail's pace, but I'm hoping slow and steady will win the race. I can tell in my clothes that I am shrinking (very slowly but still shrinking) I aim for 1200 but usually it's more like 1400 (with some bigger calorie days, especially on weekends). Anyway, glad to be here to get (and give) support and encouragement to one another in any way possible.

Oh, and I am very happily married to wonderful, funny, smart, charming husband. No kids, however I do teach high school, so I sometimes feel like mom to a hundred 16-7 year olds :-)

Jamskr8
Thanks for the help. I had chicken and beans... worked out great.

I just got home from my FIRST CURVES WORKOUT!

You know... It does not look like much. but to a chubby out of shape lady.. wow!
We did 45 min. Normally its 30 min.
I followed my daughter Magan, she was having trouble with coordination. But. we did it. So I actually worked out for a grand total of 1 hr.!! :dancer: that includes my time on the treadmill.

Hey! I even was giving people the name of this website and fitday!
They had not heard of either. But my trainer said to keep track of everything.

I am doing just what I promised my daughter. Teaching her and myself to live healthy. I am the food planner for both of us. She is used to that anyway. And we are both moral support.

Oh, I have been drinking like a fish, got well over the 64 oz. I was told to drink.

How often do you girls go work out... before its to much for a beginner?

Hi Ladies,
Just a quick post to introduce or re-introduce b/c I'm stressing about school so I need to get back to it.
28, Law Student, gained a ton of weight as a summer associate...trying to lose it, lost 10 and sort of fell off the wagon b/c I got sick...finals and papers looming isn't helping the situation. So I'm trying to get back on the wagon with the Easter Challenge.

For the newbies...welcome! I've found this place to be extremly helpful. Collective knowlege and/or opinion can be very helpful

chloeone 03-01-2007 11:40 PM

Hi everyone~
it seems as though everyone's doing the 'reintroduction' thing so i'll make mine short and sweet:
25 year old grad student at the U of Minnesota...
used to be super skinny runner in high school/college...since then began emotional eating/binging that i can't get rid of. went from 120ish to 160 in about 2 years. icky.
well, i only joined 3FC about a week and a half ago; everything going well until tonight :( I was doing ok until dinner, but then just started munching and munching and almost (a little bit) got into my 'all or nothing' binge mentality....i think i ended up at around 2300 cal..icky. (the last 600 from cinnamon toast crunch cereal!)
anyway, sorry this is so long,
hello to those of you I haven't met yet!

tomorrow will be a better day, right? :)

Fat in Hong Kong 03-02-2007 04:35 AM

Hi Everyone,
Hope you all had a good day yesterday. I weighed-in this morning and I'm pleased to say that I've lost 2lbs:) I haven't found things too easy this week, had a bit of a struggle over the past couple of days, so I'm hoping for a better week next week.

alinnell ... I know how you feel about the exercise thing ... I really need a kick in the butt too ... I'd find it so much easier if I had a buddy that I could exercise with.

littlered ... I noticed that you've just joined Curves ... I would love to have the confidence to join. Curves opened a gym here in Hong Kong a couple of months ago, but I just can't face joining alone ... I've got as far as checking out all the info on their website, but I just don't have the confidence to go along on my own:( I wish I had someone to come with me. I think it's the thought that most of the local women here in Hong Kong are sooooo skinny ... I'd just die of embarassment walking into a gym full of locals ... Now, if it was full of Western women with fuller figures, I may just give it a go.

I have a busy weekend ahead of me so may not be around much, but I will catch up with you all on Monday, if not sooner. I'm out with the girls from work this evening for dinner & drinks, so I'm going to have to be carefull!

Have a great weekend everyone!:D

Allison-I don't know if it helps or not, but what helped me to find fitness buddies and like minded friends, was to start participating in things on my own-shopping in the health food sections and greeting others, signing up for a walkathon in my area, signing up for a local exercise class...basically just joining in with healthy activities, and slowly meeting new people.

Now I have a lot of friends who dance, exercise at the gym, are vegetarians or health nuts, take yoga classes-that sort of thing. It is much easier to stay on track when your friends would rather go to Panera Bread for a coffee and salad after an exercise session together-than with friends who would rather eat big mall cookies and shop.

Whatever you can find in your area to participate in-go for it, and you will start meeting people! :)

littlered-As long as you are motivated, and excited, and don't feel too sore-then you are fine. For some, at first they have to start at 5-10 minutes a day and hate every minute at first...and others can assimilate to a longer workout immediately. Just listen to how you feel, and don't burn yourself out by trying to do too much at first. :)

Hello to everyone else!! :)

Saber had his 6 month checkup yesterday. He is 28 1/4" long, and weighs 20 pounds, 2 1/4" ounces. His height is really tall for his age-he is honestly about the size of your average 10-12 month old. There is a Mommy & Me yoga class at the Athletic Club that started recently that is held right before my Wednesday night dance class, and I was thinking about taking it...but boy that would be rough trying to do poses with his big behind. Especially with all the other 15 and 16 pound 6 month olds in there.

Today is strength training. If I have time, I might get a quick bit of cardio or something in as well. I have a huge performance the beginning of June, and I am trying to get some of this baby weight off by then, and to get some more muscle tone. I am having a costume custom made for me...and it should be here at the end of the month. When I ordered it, I ordered it just a smidge smaller than my measurements were last month-preparing for a few more pounds dropped. In May, closer to the event, I can then alter it to my measurements at the time. (I do custom seamstress work/costume making as well as dance.)

Food has been absolutely excellent for the past 8 days or so...my calories are zig-zagging in the 1200-1600 range, depending on the day. I usually try for lower through the week, and the higher end on the weekends. I am crossing my fingers for a good weigh in at the beginning of the week. :^:

AnAbsoluteDiva 03-02-2007 08:25 AM

Yesterday's calories came in at 1388 with 38% coming from fat.

Hetox Level - 7... If I hear one more song on the radio about love and how it all went wrong, I'll scream!

Detox Level - 10... No quit date set yet but give me a week in the gym and watch that drop to a glorious 1.

Have a good day, kids!

srmb60 03-02-2007 08:44 AM

Good Morning everyone!
Let me see ... I feel like I had a good day yesterday.
I worked, walked, did weights and cardio and had ice cream. However, I used more calories than I ate so .... although the day had it's flaws, I'm takin' it as a good one.

rockinrobin 03-02-2007 09:46 AM

Good morning lovely ladies!

It is sooo rainy and dreary out today, but I guess it's better then rain and it will not stop me from getting my walk in.

Walkingtolose, I had extremely similiar symptoms as you did about 12 years ago. I was also tested from everything under the sun and was never diaganosed. This may absolutely not be pertinent to you, but looking back at it now, I believe I may have been depressed. Just a notion I came up with.

Diva, you are too funny. What with your on line dating life and prisons and all. Oh gosh. Someone is gonna snap you up in no time, just watch yourself, will ya?

Aphil that Mommy & me yoga class sounds like you could get quite the workout with your ahem um "little" boy.

Alinnell, I know you know this, but the only one that can kick you in the butt is you, unless of course I was there, I'd be more then happy to kick you in the butt, but in a good way naturally. ;)

Chloe, yes today will be better!!!!

Fatinhongkong, Please don't feel badly about going to a gym being overweight, I mean isn't that who they're supposed to be helping. Anyway everyone is so caught up doing their own thing, no one is gonna be focusing on you as much as you think, or at all.

I had an interesting day yesterday. Didn't stick to my usual menu. It was crazy hectic and I just couldn't find time to cook my regular stuff. It was very weird, I was definitely out of my comfort zone. So although I didn't have my usual highly nutrious veggies and protein (sad face) I am glad at least I stayed way within my calorie budget and got in my exercise, although it surely was late in the evening, but that counts too. I was before midnight. ;)

Thursday's calories - about 1200 (though mostly devoid of nutritional value :( )

Have a great and healthy day everyone.

Good Morning!

Aphil, I know you are right about not doing too much at first.
I did not really entend to do the 45 min. Magan had so much trouble, I just followed behind her in the circle.
Doing more than her.
It was ok, I might not follow her next time.

She wants to go back today. I know we were told every other day...
But with her its always all or nothing.
I have to keep HER going too. for her health reasons.

So far its not been that hard. I worked LOTS hard at work. (recently retired)(factory closed.) Any way I think thats why it has not been as hard as I expected. I just pray it stays this easy.
Can you have muscle under all this fat?

 skinny in hong kong.:) got to be more positive.

I know what you are saying about not wanting to go alone. Thats why I have not joined before.
I was nervous as h...
but....
I told myself I would do this, no matter what.

I see me and wonder how my hubby would want me. we have to do it for what ever reason works. ;) (Thank God he really loves me.)
You can write me any time. I do understand.

Hey! my scale is cheap. But it said I lost 1 lb this week.!
Good incentive for me.!

My goals for calories is about 1400-1600 and fat 25/30 %.

Still trying to figure out todays menu. :dizzy:
That seems to be the hardest part to me.
got to go get some food for us. later.
