VERY hot here in Eastern PA - glad my AC is working. Going to my DD & SIL's for dinner tonight - they leave tomorrow morning for Lake Placid - my DD runs a marathon there this weekend.
When I was at Best Buy to get my mouse, picked up a "sound bar" to boost the volume on my laptop. I have been working on my new course & putting voice to my Power Point presntations. With the soundbar, I can hear my narration better. Amazing how intimidated I am by speaking into the microphone. I can speak in front of large groups with no problem - but I really freeze up when I start speaking into the mike.
Thanks for the warm welcome Marie, Maryea and Jess !
Jess, I love your cat. I have a Burmese and a Himylayan. My Himilyan is old, arthritic and have various other problems. Unfortunately it's just a day to day existence at this point in her life. It makes me very sad.
Does this program have a spell check ? I'm dislectic and as I age my spelling has gotten worse. (It was never too good to begin with) So, please bear with me.
As far as my weight goes, I have started going to Metabolic as a last resort. I have been on WW and Atkins and not had results that were significant after the initial couple of months. This particular program gets it off fast. I can't mention what it's about according to your webmaster. It'll be interesting when I finally get to the maintenance part of the program. That'll be the difficult part reintroducing carbs, increasing my calorie intake etc.
Danielle - switching your internet browser to Mozilla Firefox will provide you with an automatic spell check on all sites. I find less drag and potential viruses with it, too.
Mary, I hope you feel better. I used to get UTIs all the time when I was young. Six months of low dose antibiotic made it go away except one time about six years ago. I’m obsessive about drinking lots of water, especially when I travel as that was always a problem for me.
Karen31, love the pics of the puppies.
Gayle, I definitely agree on the job concept. I count down the days, hours and minutes – but I like my job. But I love being at home. I wish they’d let me tele-commute. I get so much more work done when I work from home.
Debbie, thanks for the link. The first thing I noticed was the price, then the ingredients. Soy protein. Why oh why must most convenient protein be made with soy. Deathly allergic to the stuff. But appreciate you giving us the link.
Bobbi, it sounds like you have a lot of info on the neck problem. I hope all the therapy works.
Donna, I hope the AntGod succeeds in the eradication of the ants.
Rie, hope you feel better. Unlike most people, I eat when my stomach is woozy. Maybe you’re not like me and can use it to stay on plan. I was asked whether I had bypass surgery too. I just say no and people are amazed. To me, people who’ve had surgery work just as hard at it. I totally agree that there’s more confidence and competence with age. I love being older. Just wish the hair didn’t have some white in it (heck, lately even my eyebrows have a few whites) and the wrinkles would just disappeared. Beyond the aesthetics, give me middle age any day. And I think I’m more focused on the aesthetics because I’d been fat most of my life. Goes back to the competence – I finally was smart enough to lost the weight because I was older.
Danielle, I type my posts in Word (toggling back and forth between my browser and word so I can do personals) and it has spell check there.
Tomorrow is Friday and that means WEEKEND!!!! Yeah!!!! I had a dentist appointment to day and got my perm crown. The temp on wasn’t silky smooth to the tongue. This new one is. And it doesn’t hurt. My first couple crowns hurt and had to be tweaked. I sat outside for a while this afternoon and it 70 degrees finally!!! Who’d have guessed I’d have missed the 100 degrees on the east coast??? La nina needs to go back out to sea. Two of my huskies and I are going to go scootering after dinner. They're in harnesses, a tow line separates us and I'm standing on a scooter designed for training dog mushing. It's a little dangerous but a blast. I told my dr. a couple months ago about my new toy and he rolled his eyes. As I said, the casting tech said he doesn't cast many couch potatoes. I just don't want to break anything since I might be able to swim in my pool this weekend. Finally.... Marie
Jane: I do use Mozilla. Guess I don't know how to use that function. I am still trying to figure out where my text messages are on my cell Danielle
Hmm.. that's odd. It comes up automatically in any text box that has more than one line, according to the search I did. Not sure how to help you.
On your phone, you should have an icon or word that says "messages" where you can check for texts and voicemail. Click that, and voila! there they are! Check the manual for more info. I have Verizon, and know you can dial 611 and they will help you with any technical issue, but not sure about other providers. At the very least, you can pop in at the store where you bought the phone, and the salesperson should be happy to assist you. Hope this helps a bit.
I feel better this evening after a day of rest. I had a lovely barbque dinner of lean boneless ribs, portabella mushrooms, a little polenta, fresh artichokes (a first for me) all cooked on the grill. We also had some steamed broccoli. Yummy. Sometimes you gotta love this "diet" food. It is amazing to me how much I can eat on this limited carb plan.... Nice that my son loves to cook, also!
Danielle, Welcome to our little group! Sometimes I check back and notice typos in a post I did earlier. I don't worry about it. This is a conversation among us and spelling doesn't count.
Marie, the idea of you and your dogs and the scooter sound like so much fun! I'll bet they love it. I can see you tooling along with your hair flying back and a big grin on your face!
Donna, yes - the Blue Bonnet! I remember it well. My friend and I used to go there once in a while. Of course, we didn't go out often as poor graduate students. I hope you are enjoying your family time. Good luck on the ant war. Did you know that both comet cleanser and cinamon are barriers to ants? I don't know why.
I did my monthly measurements and I am amazed that I have lost several inches. I sure wish I had measured myself when I began my journey but I guess there are some things that I didn't want to know.
Tomorrow I am going to work on getting my thoughts in order because my budget hearing is next week. It is a weird process to have these public hearings but it is the law. My hearing is late in the day so I am hoping that it will be a quiet one.
Nancy, last night I was shopping for a new pair of cross trainers for working out. They were having a sale on sandals and I actually bought a very girly pair of flip flops (thongs. LOL) I guess someone besides me might see my feet this year after all. If I don't get the courage to wear them any other time, maybe when I am fishing. Ha Ha.
Lynn, isn't it funny how different circumstances can make us stutter and stammer? I am totally comfortable, also in front of large groups and with technology. But, it takes me several times to get the voicemail message right!
I have posted a picture of the grill tonight. Those artichokes are wonderful. Give them a try. Just drizzle with a little olive oil and grill. Yum!
Hi everyone..another beautiful day here.i'm sunburned spent most of the day outside supervising my dh with his building project.the grkids keep me busy.last nite amanda was watching minute to win it. then she wanted to try stacking dice on a popsicel stick.pretty soon we were all trying. my dh was the only one to do all five.it was a fun nite.does anyone else get hungry headaches ?i dont eat carbs except those in fruits and vegies and it seems at times i get this headache. wonder if its related to not eating carbs? just wondered. congrats to us all for trying so hard to reach our personal goals rosey
I am supposed to have breakfast with my DD & SIL before they leave for Lake Placid - then dinner and a movie this evening with a friend.
I need to go VERY light on lunch to counter eating 2 meals out.
One more "mechanical" problem - got a call yesterday afternoon from my upstairs neighbor. Her water heater was leaking and she wanted to know if I had any damage in my utility room. When I checked, I noticed that my overhead light was VERY low. I figured a bulb was out. I climbed up to take off the globe and replace the bulb. As I pulled the globe off, about a gallon of water fell down on my head.
The last part of the shift yesterday was horrible. They slammed us with admissions ~ when they come so fast like that it gets confusing. We were short of help also. They staff us for the census at that moment. If we are to get admissions and fill it up, they have said they will bring in another nurse to make it enough ~ but then they don't keep their word, and make us take the admissions anyway. I was feeling bad ~ some nights I can stay late and help, but other nights I am not able to. I told them I couldn't stay late last night, but stuff started happening and it was easier to just keep doing, than to try to explain to someone else where I was in the process. I ended up staying over by an hour. When I left the others were still working on things. I felt guilty leaving them. I don't know how much longer the rest of them had to stay.
I will stay if they need me most nights, but the evening of my last day of work, I try to keep for me. That evening is when I am able to go see Sara and the grandkids. I just feel like to give that up ~ I am being cheated out of my little bit of time with them. Corbin sadly said to me one day ~ Grandma ~ you work only 8 more hours than you used to ~ but now you are never here. He used to come over in the afternoons after school and work on homework or just hang out.
I should stop whining ~ be thankful I have a job, be thankful that I am here and not still in NC where I got to see them only once a year. But darn it ~ work shouldn't be allowed to consume your life and steal precious family time. I guess I just have to set some bounderies and not let it ~ but when I do that ~ why do I feel so guilty?
Off to weight watchers this morning, then have to go with DH to pick out a new pair of glasses frames (his broke). Then back home ~ gotta get to work on the continuing education stuff for my nursing license renewal ~ 20 hours worth. I am such a bad procrastinator ~ I had two years to work on it ~ last time I waited until too close to the end and had to miss a trip to the coast trying to get it done on time. I had said that I would work on it a little at a time and not let that happen again. But here I am ~ almost time again. I am getting to it sooner than last time, but didn't do as I has hoped and spread it out over several months. Oh well ~ what is done is done
Hope you all have a good day ~ I'll check back later.
Good Friday Morning Everyone, The day is rainy, but least it’s a lot cooler here in Indiana. My son and daughter-in-law just left for their home in Utah. It was wonderful but hectic having them here. We rearranged furniture, de-cluttered some rooms, (yes, I have a tendency to hoard, but my daughter-in-law is RUTHLESS!) My son installed a washer and dryer, did some plastering, and completed various other jobs around the house that my husband had been putting off. (Lack of skill AND lack of ambition!) My daughter-in-law stayed up all night two days ago and painted the bathroom a cheery golden yellow. She helped me pick out some matching accessories – it just changed the whole look. I feel like inviting people in, just to see my bathroom! I made two different batches of cookies to send with them on their trip – my DIL complained that “mommy fed me heroin!” But she still ate them. Maybe homemade cookies ARE like heroin to us sugar-addicts! Oh, well, I only had my son and DIL for three weeks out of 52, and I wanted to spoil them a bit while they were here. But now it’s back to counting calories and NO FAST FOODS. (I will miss the french fires the most.) Happy weekend to all!
Rie, LOL at the hair flying back when I'm on the scooter. Yesterday, I'd just washed it and it got to dry in the breeze. I'm with you on the not wanting to know things when I first started on my journey. I didn't measure anything. I still won't. Your dinner looked tasty!
Rosey, use sunscreen. Burns are bad. Sounds like you had fun with the gc.
Lynn, good thing you didn't get electrocuted with the lightbulb and water. Good luck with the eating out. That is always such a challenge.
Gayle, my sister is a nurse at a hospital too. I've heard about her late stay horror stories. When she works evenings, she's supposed to get off at 12 and many times it gets to be 2 or 3 in the morning. I'd imagine staffing a ward would be difficult - mostly like a crap shoot. But I know her hosptial will call people in.
Hedge, sorry your DS and DIL left. At least they took the cookies with them.
It's Friday and I love weekends. I live for weekends. And next week is furlough week. I work on Monday, then four furlough days. YEAH!!! (They've been deducted from my paycheck since Sept so to me they are vacation). DD and I are meeting in SF and are going rollercoastering at 6 Flags on Tuesday and Wednesday. I love speed!!! I'm so excited to go play. So next week is a 1 day work week. That's my idea job work week concept. I already ellipticalled today. DH was being a nut and rode his bike the 18 miles to work so we're walking the dogs after work. Usually we do the 1.5 mile walk a five in the morning, then I elliptical after work. Today I get the easy on after work. Very cool. I wanted to stop at Starbucks for a Java Chip on my way to work. I have stayed strong through my morning munchie time and now I don't even want to go. I'm happy about that.
Im out of town for a few days. Not a good thing for starting to eat healthy. Its just 2 nights at a friends home for some 'goofy' girl time, and some good friendship, and yes, sadly, food.
Ill do my best to pop in a few times. Have an awesome weekend everyone.
Height: 5'2" (really 5'1 1/4" ( but I refuse to accept that - I don't care what the doctor says!)
Hi Everyone It's been a busy week. I've had company & so went off program.... .....2 birthday parties, restaurants - had to use the restaurant coupons I won at the dog guide walk, etc etc But I'm back at it...again I know. I was going to sit in the sun yesterday just for 15 min. but fell asleep for an hour. Needless to say, I'm a bit reddish ....I know, dumb! It's been so nice & sunny that I'm outside as much as I can be. Our summers are fairly short. Walked the dogs this am but just for a short time as it was already getting warm for them. I want to say to the newbies. You'll love this site. I won't do any personals as I'm behind on them but I do read everyone & really enjoy them. I feel like I've made a whole bunch of new friends! I'm just "drudging" a bit today & will watch the Stanley Cup finals this evening. I just hope that Boston won't cremate the Canucks again! BFN.
Hey GGs,
Just wanted to stop by & check on everyone, & say Hi! Really can’t stay tonight, because I’m soooo sleepy! I was late getting to bed last night, so, with getting up early to get SO off to work, I only got 4 hours of sleep. And then I couldn’t go back to sleep this morning, because I kept worrying about some things I had to get done today. Well, I got those things taken care of, we just finished dinner, & now I can just barely keep my eyes open. Wanted to check here because I’m a little worried about KarenFL. Did anyone else notice we haven’t heard from her since last Sat. night? And that was the day after her fall. Where are you KarenFL?! Are you ok?!! Please check in!
Before I go to take a nap, just wanted to mention (before I forget), I like your new avatar, Lynn, but it’s too small! Is it of you & your daughter? And Rie, you go ahead & wear those flip flops! I’m really starting to like mine (& my feet!). I actually wore my flip flops out to do my errands today, & they felt pretty good. I’m planning to buy a couple more pairs.
Ok, sleep now! Maybe I’ll be back later, after I nap. In case I sleep til morning, & then get busy - have a Happy Weekend everyone! NCNancy
