Our dd and her two little ones arrived about 4 yesterday afternoon so I've been busy with them. They are so cute! We babysat them for an hour while mama went to the gym (that girl is SO disciplined, must have gotten it from her dad) and then again a couple hours in the evening while she met up with a GF. I got the kids to bed just before she came home but they ended up sleeping with mama. It's a special treat as don't think they get to do that much at home. Found a young child game on my computer I didn't even know I had and now my gs is hooked on it. Even put down his iPod Touch to play it! They start all this tech stuff so young these days!

The bad news is that I have another bladder infection. After many years never having one, I keep getting them...think this is my 4th this year so far, and I suspect the diabetes is playing a part. I'm feeling kinda old and tired right now because I don't feel well, so probably just as well that our dd and the children left for the night to go see her brother. They will be back tomorrow and I got some OTC med so hopefully I'll feel somewhat better by then. I'm not much for drinking juice so this time I bought some of the cranberry concentrate ..1 tablespoon if equal to 8 glasses of juice. And I'm making sure I drink a lot of water. I am catching this one early and hoping it will just go away but if continues I'll go in to the doctor's. My doctor was out of the office today. My dh has hives all over his head/face/neck so he had to see another doctor who prescribed Prednisone. He doesn't think it's a drug allergy since it is only on his head and neck, but we don't know what is causing it. So he's not feeling very well either.

Lynn - sorry about your mouse LOL I would have bought the $17 one too! Made me think...the other day I was at a fast food place at the mall and a guy was there at the counter buying something. He had a box which he placed on the counter and it was moving a little. Then heard him tell the clerk he had just bought a mouse for his pet snake! Maybe I'm just picky but don't think he should have placed it on the counter..

Danielle - welcome! I don't know anything about the diet you are on, but if you have to keep buying things I would be skeptical. IMHO, regular healthy foods and exercise are enough. LOL sounds so simple, doesn't it? The problem for me is that discipline is needed too! I'm still working on that part of it!

Rie - you are making me want a wii!! Sounds like fun!

Jess - I think God forgot to put a shut-off switch in me!! And I really really do want one!

Freda - "Mary, I don't agree with DSD's "you're old, no one cares what you look like". I think "i'm older. I have confidence. I don't care what anyone thinks about me"." I think this was actually meant for Nancy, not me. Personally though I sometimes feel that younger people don't notice me as much...I think they see my gray hair and sorta discount me sometimes. But I also notice that (maybe because of that) I can get by with a lot more now that I'm older. Or maybe it's just because I'm more daring now and just don't care so much what other's think! So in a way getting older is rather freeing! I guess like all ages, it has it's ups and downs!

Debbie - Don't worry about it...just get back on track. I do those things...if they are around me. Just try not have them around me. I made brownies for the gc and like I figured, I ate way too many of them. Still I did a little better than usually...I actually did pretty well until the kids left today and then I gobbled down the few that were left. I was arguing with myself the whole time I did it...knew I shouldn't but I did and now the darn things are gone! Whoever, was it Gayle? said not to bake them was right, but it's hard being a grandma and not baking cookies. Was thinking today (after I ate the rest of them) from now on maybe I should just bake the diabetic kind that have fewer calories/carbs, so even if I lose control I won't do as much damage. I hope the kids will still like them though. I just need that shut-off switch!!

Nancy - Sorry the suggestions haven't worked. Don't know what else to say but don't give up on enjoying your night out. Sounds like she'll be too busy soon so that's probably good.

Hi to everyone! I enjoy reading all your posts!

Hey GGs,
I really don’t have anything to say, I think I’m all talked out from last night! So, I’ll just say Welcome to the new GG, Danielle! And Rosey, so sorry about your DGS’s feet! Hope he’s not hurting too much. Guess you can loan him your wheelchair, since you’re getting around so good these days. KarenFL, was your last laser treatment yesterday? I think you mentioned Tuesday? If so, how’d it go?

Marie, it’s a shame you can’t wear hats. Good thing you have nice hair!

Freda, thanks for the advice on visiting my friend. I think it probably would be best to do it at the nursing home. Safer, anyway! Gayle, that’s who I thought! Lovely family.

Mary, soooo sorry you & your DH aren't feeling good! And at such a bad time. Hope you both get better really, really soon, so you can enjoy your DD & DGK's visit.

Ok, shutting up now. I think I’ll go read my book now, & “listen” to someone else “talking”. Night y’all.

Well, thought I would share the pics of Ginger & Sissy and their new summer haircuts! As soon as I took them this morning to be groomed I jumped in and started shampooing carpets. Stopped about noon and I still am not finished!

I'm pooped tonight but thought you would like to see their pics. I'll try to catch up later...think I'll go watch some TV and just relax.

Have a good night.

Good evening GG's,

Three down and one to go (days of work). You'd think the way I count them down that I don't like my job very much. I like it well enough, I just like being home better

They had a quiz going around on Facebook one time ~ to answer what kind of nurse a nurse should be. Mine came out in one of the areas I have absolutely no interest in. I said I wanted to be a retired nurse. I hate to wish my life away, but I really look forward to being retired.

So far, so good tonight with the eating. I had a nice salad ~ looked so pretty. I seem to be in a good frame of mind tonight about the food. Hope it holds through the rest of the evening.

Hope you all are having a nice evening. Maybe I'll add more later.

Take care

Just stopped in to take a peek at what my GGs are doing. Glynne, I'm sorry I think I called you Gayle in my post. I understand not wanting to hurry your life along but really in some ways I feel like my life started with retirement. I enjoyed my younger years...being a mother and all and don't regret that at all but I feel so much freer and happier with myself...more settled now. I realize a lot of that is just age but I can't even imagine working now..I don't have time! There were things I enjoyed about being a nurse but I too just would have rather been home and now I am. Now I do things I enjoy not because I have to do them. And I don't usually feel old..only when I'm not feeling well. The med is helping relieve most of the discomfort and I mainly feel very tired now. Hopefully a good sleep tonight will help a lot too.

Hope everyone gets a good sleep and feels fresh and good tomorrow!

ETA: LOL I see now that Glynne IS Gayle!! No wonder I was mixed up!!

Mary ~ that is ok that you called me Gayle ~ that is my name. The Glynne is what I picked for my user name when I first joined ~ I was new to the computer and message boards and didn't know to pick some kind of clever name. So, I took the G (from Gayle) and added it to my middle name Lynne.

Oh ~ Mary, I wanted to tell you ~ when I had a urinary tract infection ~ my Dr. had me get some stuff called AZO standard ~ an over the counter thing ~ was available at Walmart. It helps relieve the pain, burning and urgency. It really helped.

Hope you and your DH are both feeling better soon so you can enjoy your visit with your daughter and grandkids.

Hi Everyone, Thank you for welcoming me into the fold. You are a friendly group! I am enjoying reading about your lives – it’s keeping my mind off my present situation. My son and daughter-in-law have been visiting for almost a month. They leave Indiana for Utah on Friday, and I am most distraught. They lived with us for three years, until my son graduated from college as a computer engineer and found a job in Utah last year. My daughter-in-law is the one who introduced me to 3 Fat Chicks and suggested the 50+ forum. So now I am sad they are leaving again. My daughter just graduated from college this year as an English major, and is busy looking for a job. I hope she can find one locally, or else it will be just me and my husband left at home, and I am not ready for that! I have been enjoying cooking for a full house again, and I’m hoping that I can avoid the “I’m depressed munchies” once they’re gone.

Bobbi – The Thin Woman is the first in the series by Dorothy Cannell. One of my favorites is the third one in the series – The Widow’s Club. Guess how you get to be a member of THAT group!

OPPS...lol Protein pretzels....And chips, cereal, etc.

http://kaysnaturals.com/products/

I use the pretzles as a snack. I also use the protein chips as a topping for my salads.

What i like is the fact that its lower carb, and higher protein.

What i do not like is the cost, but they run 50% off, and with a (XX XX) of dollars the shipping is free. Now I'm not a chips person, but i am a carb person.

The pretzels are kinda hard, and i would truly not recommend them. The nacho chili chips are good, as are the cheese balls.

Sorry this took so long...(its been in the 90's and i have a pool) lol

Good Morning GG's

I do hope all are well! The temperature on my little island was over 90deg yesterday, and today is going to be just as worm.

I ate healthy yesterday, and I'm excited about my first weigh in at TOPS tonight. I know its all fluids, but heck ill take it! I do have a Red Hat luncheon today, but i will be fine, the Queen Mum wont let me eat any 'sweets' LOL Gotta love her.

My calories were apx 1100 yesterday, with higher protein, and lower carbs.

I'm going to have to start adding some type of fitness.

Have an awesome day! Debbie

Good Morning!
I'm just going to leave a short note for those of you waiting to hear what was found on my xrays.
1. Curvature of the spine. (not affecting my migraines, didn't know I had this)
2. Degenerative Arthritis in my neck
3. Pinched nerve in my neck
4. Thin or no cushions of cartilage between vertebrae in neck
5. 3rd vertebrae on neck out a country mile, he's going to gradually work it back to normal position...daily sessions for two weeks, ouch! Another vertebrae in middle back out and one slightly out lower back below belt. All these out of line vertebraes are making the muscles over them knot up and that's where the migraines are coming from.
These sessions are very painful with the pressure he puts on neck and back. I'm gritting my teeth and remembering 9 months of migraines I've already gone thru and how this new treatment is going to help in the long run.
Good News, my insurance company has paid for my first 4 massage therapy sessions. I got a written prescription from my regular doctor and they accepted it! They should after paying for 50+ chiropractor sessions (3 different docs), 2 dozen health reach sessions, cortosone shots, 2 medical doctors, blah, blah, blah.
I'm out the door now to my massage, later gators.

Good Morning, All...
Soon I will be off to help AZ Bro install some "bath assist" bars in Granny/Mom's bathroom, so this will be quick!

Bobbi, it sounds like you might have finally found a competent doctor! Good thoughts, good thoughts, good thoughts, good thoughts....!

RieMontana, the restaurant you asked about is the Blue Bonnet, and it's still going strong.

Danielle60, welcome! I hope you like those worm days!

Rosey, I hope Tyler feels better soon! That had to be scary for all of you!!

Mary, I saw an interview with a nameless celebrity (lest it be considered bashing!) who was talking with someone who mentioned that she had a portion of some wonderfully fattening and yummy food, then put it away because she'd "had enough..." The nameless one got this startled look of wonder on her face and said "... Wow! What a concept..." Like us, she couldn't even conceive of such a thing! For me, there's always room in there for more and more and more...

Cloudy today... and I hear the AntGod upstairs spraying. Of course, I didn't see any ants yesterday... but I'm still glad for the spray!

Everyone, have a lovely day. I'm off to construct (and I'll be willing to bet it will be wrong, when we're finished! ♥♥ The Gran is getting very cranky in her old age!)

Good Morning Ladies. I was down to 161.4 this morning so I was able to change my ticker! YAY!! Must have been all the carpet that I shampooed yesterday and working at the church helping to unload and put together 10 sets of bunkbeds for the volunteers that are helping in Joplin. Because after all that we ended up having a Beef and Chedder sandwich at Arby's! Oh! And I had to try one of their Jamoca Shakes--sure wish they tasted BAD but they are so good!! Now I have to stay away from Arbys except for just a few special occasions.

Bobbi, glad you are getting some answers to you headaches.. I know that I had neuromuscylar massage therapy and then right after the appointment there I would go to a chiropractor and have a treatment there. Between the two they sure helped but I continued that for a year. That was due to being hit by a drunk driver at 6:30am! I was working as a manager for Wendy's in Colorado and I tried to continue because I loved the job, but a year after the accident I had to give it up. It just seemed like the fast pace and being on my feet were not letting my back and neck heal the way it should.

I started with a "tickle" in my throat yesterday morning and thought it must be some allergies. Then I started with a little cough. My older brother came over and said a good friend of his had a pretty bad cough and he went to the DR. last week and the DR. said it was "tornado cough" and nothing to do for it. I guess that is because of all the "stuff" being stirred up in the air first because of th tornado and now because of all the clean up. Our air has been tested and it isn't dangerous but just a lot of stuff out there. Anyway, I coughed all night long and now have no voice! He said this kind of goes along with it. Who knew? I have this link on my facebook page about the tornado if you would like to see it. It is a storm chaser and his wife who were pretty much right there before, during and after the storm. They had the camera on the dashboard of the car. Pretty scary ride!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfdK6H9d6J0

Well, need to get some more stuff done around here. I don't know if I said it before or not but we decided to list our home for sale and see if we cant get over closer to family and a little more modern house. If we can sell, fine if not fine. It is an older home and needs lots of updating and with Tim having COPD a lot of it would have to be hired out to get done. But guess we will just wait and see. I think it is a good decision but will be happy either way.
Now I need to go and get some more cleaning done. Have a great day!

Good Morning Ladies!

Must be the day of not feeling well. I had a stomach bug last night and I was up most of the night. I feel better but I am taking a day of rest. Curled up on the couch with a book. I still felt woozy this morning so I skipped the workout.

Pool was fun last night and I played good, winning 3 of my 4 league games. I lost badly at cribbage but I enjoyed it. A nice little 25yrold asked me if I had gastric bypass surgery because I have lost so much weight. At first, I was taken aback, then I decided to consider it as a compliment. Not that there is anything wrong with the surgery.....

Bobbi, I am sorry that there is so much wrong with your spine. I am glad that you have some answers and REALLY glad that the insurance will pay. Hang in there.

Debbie, way to rock the calorie counting! Amazing! For you and Mary, I bake cookies or things that the kids like that I don't really enjoy. For example, I am allergic to walnuts, pecans, etc so I make cookies with little chunks of walnuts. The kids like them but I won't touch them. Sometimes I make other things that I don't really like. Sometimes it is hard. My little gs was eating mini oreos the other night when I was working in my office. He kept wanting to sit on my lap. They smelled so good and sweet. I kinda snapped at him and told him he had to go to the kitchen to eat them. He tried to share with me. Oh, well. He was over it. But, we used to eat those oreos together and sometimes I know he gets confused. I figure he would rather have me around a long time, even if I don't eat stuff with him....

Hedgehog, it is really hard when the chicks leave home. Like you, I have always enjoyed caring for them and doing the motherly things. Believe it or not, I have really learned to enjoy spending that time on myself, in my own pursuits.

Gayle, good job on having the salad. Sometimes they can be very pleasing to the eye.

Karen, the girls look wonderful! How cute! Do they go in the Pool?

Mary, I hope you feel better soon. I do think that diabetes makes you more apt to get bladder infections. Something about the sugar that you are spilling into your urine when your bs is high. If you are starting to get them all the time, maybe you should talk to your dr.

Marie, Your equipment sound wonderful! I also am desperate for an ipad. They have so much capability. I think it is cool that you joined us in advance (a little) of your 50th. I am just 51. The great thing about this group is that we all fit in, despite our differences. There is a certain type of competence that we women get with maturity, it is terrific - and underrated by most people.

Rosey, so sorry about your gs. Poor guy! That deck is really gonna be something. I can't wait to see it.

Lynn, good for you. I, however, loving to play computer games, got the $70 laser model. I got it for half price, so that's pretty good, right?LOL

Nancy, good luck with the "Double Date" night plan. I think it is terrific.

I just saw on the news that the whole east coast is having a heat wave. I hope that our Zoe is enjoying herself in spite of the heat.
