Good morning everyone! I had a decent night, with no cramps, yea!! Really beginning to think that bad one was caused by too many blankets. We don't need that many now anyway as it is getting warmer. Got quite warm yesterday...not sure the temp though. Today's supposed to be low 70s and the sun is already out. We are about to leave for church. Usually we eat out on Sundays as my dh is always starved and has to eat immediately after, but I'm thinking Mexican and after looking at the "nutrition" of the local restaurants, I asked if we could just pick up some tortilla chips and eat here at home. So we are having Taco Salad here at home...will be much healthier and better for my diet. I will just have to be sure I don't eat too many chips.

Nancy - I agree with Riemontana who said call it "date night." That might work. It's true that men are rather dense sometimes.

Lynn - I think I might be pretty close to that max dose in Calcium...and LOL I have many of the symptoms though doubt that's the cause. And of course who knows how much is really absorbed. I can probably take a couple extra tablets now and then when I have a cramp without harm. Think I will get some chewable for just now and then and take it when the cramps are just starting. Calcium relaxes muscle so makes sense. The Quinine works really well as long as I can get up to get it, but it is kinda dangerous so I don't like to take it often. Thanks everyone for all the comments and suggestions.

Glynne - I have what my dad called rounded shoulders and as I have gotten older and spent so much time on computers (both at work and now at home), my back as rounded more and my head tends to push forward. That is why I didn't like that last pic I posted cause I could see it even though I was face-on. I constantly have to remind myself to straighten up but it is too late for much change I'm afraid. Just don't want to get worse.

I went back to using Sparkpeople and see it has changed a lot. I knew about the optional eating plans but now they also record BS. I like that although wish I could print out a page of numbers rather than just a graph and also would like to be able to make notes. Of course I love glucosebuddy but would be nice to have it all in one program. Expecting perfection, I am! :-) I was using another program called LoseIt! but I was always having to put in my own foods..too time consuming. Since i used to use Sparkpeople, much of my data is already in there. So I'll try it for a while. I really prefer my CalorieKing software but it will not sync with my phone so trying others out. I thought the Sparkpeople page was too cluttered but now I see that you can customize it so that helps. And the food finder is much better now, so lots of improvements.

Well, almost time to leave for church. You all have a wonderful Sunday!!

Hello GG’s

Hope you all have had a nice weekend.

I got some puttery stuff done today. Made a little pouch so I could carry my cell phone (it hangs around my neck) when I have on an outfit that does not have a pocket to put it in. Otherwise, I go off and leave it laying around the house and then miss the call. Then, I made pockets for a top of an outfit to wear to work. The boss said I did not have to wear scrubs as the secretary. My scrubs look fine when I am standing up, but when I sit down the shape of my body changes (into that Jaba the Hut likeness), and then the scrubs feel tight around me. I don’t like my clothes to feel tight. So, I had some outfits from Lane Bryant that are knit ~ plain colored pants and a print top to match. Because I am short, I always have to cut some off the bottom of the tops. So, I used the extra cloth and made pockets. These stretch when I sit down, so hopefully I will look a little better than I feel like I do with the scrubs on. I’ll try it with one outfit, and if it works out ok, I will fix over the other ones.

While I was sewing, I was listening to the play list of songs I had found on Youtube. I was really enjoying the music and all involved in my sewing ~ then someone touched my arm ~ it was Maddie ~ she had come in the room ~ quiet as a little mouse ~ I didn’t even hear her or see her until she touched me. Scared the wits out of me.

NC Nancy ~ I agree with the others ~ how men are dense sometimes. My DH ~ we will be going to go somewhere and I am getting ready, but my hair will be still wet and I haven’t dried it yet or styled it with the curling iron and he will look at me and ask if I am ready to go ~ I am thinking ~ DUH ~ do I look ready. You have seen me when I am ready ~ do I go out with wet hair that is unfixed? Do I look so bad all the time that he can’t tell the difference. That really irks me.

Mary ~ you wrote: (my over-snacking in the evenings. My dh gives me a disgusted look sometimes so I will try to hide it from him at times. I'm ashamed of it but I still do it.) My DH does a lot of eye rolling and disgusted looks too ~ frustrating and not helpful at all. Mine disgustingly has so much self control and he just can not even fathom someone who does not have it. He doesn’t understand and doesn’t even want to understand. Thinks the answer for me is to do it like he does it. Again DUH ~ does he not get that women and men are different and what works for him won’t necessarily work for me?

I'm sorry everyone for my man rant. He is basically a good person, but can be irritating. I don't think he realizes it. I guess it is my mood.

Oh ~ confession time ~ my guilty pleasure ~ I liked that short lived Cavemen sitcom. The one that was made around those Gieko cavemen. I have liked silly shows like that ~ Mork and Mindy ~ Third Rock from the Sun. Here's a little trivia ~ Don't know if any of you ever saw that movie Jungle - 2 - Jungle with Tim Allen. Where he finds he has a son with his ex wife who is a jungle boy. The boy that played the part of the jungle boy ~ as a grown up was one of those guys on the Cavemen show.

Sorry I wasn't able to do personals for everyone this time. Still have stuff to do to get ready to go back to work tomorrow.

Take care

Good Evening!

I thought I would drop by tonight and say hello. I will probably be testifying in a court case in the am so I won't have time to drop in.

I got a workout in and I got all my plants in the ground. Finally! I got quite a little "help" from the gs. It was fun but I could have accomplished the task in half the time....

Tonight we had baked chicken and the asparagus that I picked on our farm. It was really terrific. And of course, Sunday night is WW ice cream bar night for me and the little guy They are the snickers type bar and they are wonderful.Quite a treat - not the yogurt that I usually have at night.

I changed my avatar with a picture of myself. I enjoy the fact that most of you have your picture as your avatar so I thought I should join you. That's me with my grandsons on Easter. The picture weirds me out a little because I still have such a long way to go. I will keep on keeping on.....

I hope that everyone had a great weekend. Tomorrow night I am going to a softball game. This will be the first time I have been at a game without a ballpark hot dog. We'll see. If I can't stand it, I may eat a hotdog without the bun

Hey GGs,
Well, I’m in a much better mood tonight! We (just me & SO, his DD was at work) went to a Goodwill store, & then to a new grocery store I’d been wanting to check out. The grocery has an extensive deli & bakery section, with all kinds of foods. One counter was all individual desserts, about 15 or 20 different kinds (several kinds of cheesecake), & only 2/$5.00 or $2.99 each. And they each looked delicious! And I was getting hungry! But, I resisted! We ended up buying a few groceries that were on sale, & a pack of sliced ham, some Provolone cheese & a pk. of 2 onion rolls, to make sandwiches when we got home. Of course right now I’m sort of regretting not buying a piece of that cheesecake!

Rie, I want to second everything you said about this being a lifestyle change, not a diet. I finally learned that! I’ve known several people who’ve lost a lot of weight doing that thing with the pills & shots. Every one of them gained it all right back, as soon as they quit taking them! We know we’re doing this the right way this time. And, I don’t think you sounded preachy! Nice avatar pic. I think you look great already!

Gayle, I think you’re too hard on yourself. That .4 lb. lost is still progress! Yay! I really don’t think you need to be in a hurry about this. Even if you only lose half a pound a month, you’ll still be 6lbs. lighter this time next year. And 6 more the year after that! Eventually, you would reach your goal. Remember the tortoise & the hare! After I lost the first 40lbs., this time, I decided to concentrate on maintaining for awhile. And, on trying to learn to only eat when I was hungry. I found I was still losing weight, but slowly. After about 6 months of that, I was ready to start trying to lose more. (I think I lost about 15lbs during that time.) Seems like this gets easier the longer you stick with it. We can learn new habits! Hang in there! Two years ago, when I was 250lbs., & wearing size 24/26, there is absolutely no way I would have believed I would ever be under 150lbs. & wearing size 10/12! Honestly, I’m still not sure I believe it. Somebody pinch me - I must be dreaming!

Debbie, ditto on everything I said to Gayle! And, for me it was about health this time. I hadn’t developed any problems yet (that I know of), but I felt that I was on the verge of it. Actually felt sometimes that I was “eating myself to death”. I knew that had to stop, it just took me a while to do it. Oh, and thanks for the hug.

And Gayle, about that hunched forward thing, I do that too. Especially when sitting at the computer. I’m constantly reminding myself to “sit up straight!”. I just did that, & here I am hunched forward again! Aack! And, I think we'd all agree that men are dense sometimes!

Rie & Mary, that “date night” thing won’t work, because usually my mom & her husband go out to eat with us. That’s partly the reason I tried to convince myself we SHOULD include SO’s DD. But, that’s usually the only time we see them (they don’t live with us like she does), & they come in their own car, meet us there, & then leave to do their own thing. Not the same thing at all! Donna, I think you showed remarkable restraint in your comment! Oh, & I'm still trying to figure out my guilty pleasure. I know I must have one!

I really need to get off here, almost past my bedtime. And, SO’s DD is impatiently waiting to use my internet connection, but she doesn’t dare say anything. We offered to buy her her own device (so she could have her own connection any time she liked), but said she would have to pay the $20 monthly fee herself. She insisted she couldn’t afford that! However she can afford to pay $20 for 5 sessions in the tanning bed, & yesterday she bought a $9 scarf & $13 sandals, & she buys $20 perfume, & she’s always going out to eat & to clubs with her friends, etc., etc. So, I don’t feel too bad about making her wait!

Night y’all.

Hi Everyone, I'm not only new here, I've never posted on any other forums anywhere else. My daughter-in-law got me started here, gave me a mental push, and told me I was on my own! She has lost 70 pounds, and is encouraging me to re-lose the pounds I gained during the last year when my husband lost his job. Why is it the cheaper foods are always higher in calories and the healthier foods are always expensive? Any encouraging words of wisdom for me?

good Morning GG's

Looks like it might be a another beautiful day. Yesterday was beautiful and i'm looking for a repeat! I had to work this weekend. Sunday our new comptuer system was up and we were told we "HAD" to be there or else. It was my DGD's dance recital and I really wanted to be THERE instead! I called her the night before and told her I wasn't going to be able to come. She cried, I cried...After working for a couple of hours with the new system we found it really wasn't the Devil everyone was expecting. I'm sure there are still some bugs in there that will have to be worked out. So, I asked my boss (who also came in extra that day) if I could leave early and she said YES!!! Happy, happy! My DGD was so surprised and thrilled to see me. Glad I didn't have to disapoint her. We went out to eat afterwards and I had soup and salad bar. Also got a brownie and ate a few bites (really, about a 1/4 of it). But I hadn't eaten since a piece of toast at breakfast at 9 and I was totally starving.

You miss a couple of days here and there is so much going on. Hi everyone!

Hi Debbie and Hedgehog! Welcome. One thing you will find here, lots of support and some good friends. Ok, that's 2 things, but 2 good things!

Donna, You were a Bail Bondsman too? You are just full of surprises! You have lead an aniteresting life lady.

Karen, Hope you didn't do too much damage to that leg. I hope no one was watching when you feel. I hate having to pick myself up and pretend that I really intended to fall and i'm not a klutz at all.

Freda

Good Morning! I thought that I would pop in quickly this morning. I have some stuff I want to get done housework wise before it gets too hot. PLUS I now have added vacuuming the pool to my list of to do's! But that I don't mind! Just need to get that done before it gets too hot too.

Welcome Hedgehog! I think you will find that we are a pretty happy group and hope you like it here. Tell us about you.....

Things are going pretty good here and the Joplin clean up continues. We have only seen bits and pieces of it since we live in Carthage and I just haven't had the heart to go into the part of the town that was so destroyed yet. But I have heard there are about 56,000 volunteers from all over to help clean up!! And I was so happy when I heard that over 300 pets have been reunited with their owners!! One dog was found under a pile of rubble (that used to be his home) 10 days after the storm. He was fine, just hungry and thirsty! There are a lot of good news stories coming out. Of course, you have the looters and thieves that think it is OK to take things that don't belong to them... but my goodness are they being delt with in a hurry!! Proud of my Hometown!!

Got to get going. Be back later.....

Debbie--- a lot of us use Fitday.com to record and track their food, exercise and weight goals. It is a pretty good site. But I also found MyFitnessPal.com and I like it too. It syncs with my phone and the food data base seems to have a lot more food listed there.

Also some of us have found if we start our post in a word/works document then it is easier to do personals and then copy and paste it in to the thread and we don't lose so many posts!! Just a quick tip!

Good Morning, All...
Oh, it is BEAUTIFUL here! My brother left his "summer place" in Greer AZ because of the evacuation from the fires and is heading to Denver for a visit. It'll be good to see him!

Lynn, enjoy your day with your DF. You're a good friend! It's hard to spend a block of time with an Alzheimer's person, very stressful!

Riemontana, your picture is really good (and you're really way too young to be in a 50+ group!). You look about 24 and those little ones could be your little ones! I think you look great. Remember that we're never happy with the way we look; it's ingrained!

Nancy, my restraint has, and continues to have, my tongue bleeding.

Hedgehog, welcome! I love the picture! Suggestions? Try cooking from scratch instead of buying your foods. There are, literally, thousands of recipe sites, if you're of a mind to cook and like to do that. It's a lot less expensive and so much healthier!

Freda, I've had a long and varied work life, and I still haven't figured out what I what to be when I grow up. I've gone from bank teller supervisor to police officer to deputy sheriff to bail bonding. In between the last two, I got my nursing license and worked in a hospital until I could escape back to the normal world of criminals! Since I'll never be able to really retire, I'm afraid, I wonder what's next? I'm looking into auricular therapist, because that has so much helped my hip.

Debbie, the fitday address is http://fitday.com. It's easy to use. There are several sites from which to choose.

Bobbi, do you have pictures yet of your gardens? Is the neck brace still working?

Teagranny, I haven't asked about your son for a while. Is he recovering well?

KarenMO, are you and Tim volunteering? Unbelievably daunting task ahead!

Mary, KarenFL, PT/Zoe, Rosey, everyone..... have a good Monday!

Hi girls...
Donna, I thought of you this morning and I know how you hate hot weather. (It'll be in the 100's here today and very humid) The only activity I'm doing today is going to a new doctor who'll finally take x-rays of my neck. My yard is looking fantastic, flowers are coming very nicely except for 6 or so flowers that are dying from the high winds we had for a few days and now the heat. I can't take pictures to show you until after the Flower garden tour. We have chicken wire around many of my flower beds because of the rabbits and they wouldn't be removed until the day before the tour.
I haven't taken the time to back read all the post but I did see a new poster....Welcome Hedgehog, I wrote down the author and title of the book you suggested. (The Thin Woman by Dorothy Cannell)
What's the name of the 1st book so I start from the beginning or is The Thin Woman the title of the first book?
Gotta go get ready for doc's appointment. Later Gator.

Hello everyone! Tomorrow my dd and her two children will be here, so I'm continuing to try very hard to be kept up in my housework so I can concentrate on them while they are here. I'm off to a good start but got kinda stalled as had quite a bit of laundry to do too. Yesterday I finally got back to the RV and cleaned all the wood. Wood dries out so quickly in an RV and I try to keep it nice. When my dh pulls the trailer out enough to extend the slide-out I will then finish the wood and vacuum. I cleaned the oven the last time I was out there and yesterday I saw that I hadn't wiped it out good enough as there is white ash in their still, so need to wipe it out again. I plan to put down rugs here and there throughout to keep it clean when people come in. After that MY part is done in regard to the cleaning.. my dh still needs to clean the exterior and the pickup. About my cramps, woke up to one from my foot to about 3/4 up my calf about 5 am. I forgot to put the calcium at my bedside and I don't have any tonic water yet, but got up and took Quinine and it went away within 5 min.

Bobbi - 100 degrees already?!! That's too hot for me. Sounds like your flowers like it though except for the wind. I wish I could see your yard..sounds very nice. Glad you are getting your neck X-rayed...and hope they figure it out..you have suffered too long. The book, The Thin Woman sounds good...I have put it into my cart on amazon.com. I keep them in the cart until I'm ready to buy. Sometimes I earn a GC from a survey site and apply it so I get books very cheap.

Karen31 I've been trying out myfitnesspal.com also and I like it too. I already was a member but hadn't used it for a long time and it too has improved a lot.
Right now I kind of like sparkpeople.com because of the menu plans (optional) and I use them for breakfast and lunch ideas mainly. Since I already have a lot of my own favorites in there it is easy to use. I saw I have a few favorites in myfitnesspal too but not as many. I wish I could put my bs and A1Cs in my fitnesspal but don't think you can.

Jess - You sure have had a varied career! My son and his GF have both worked in prisons for years and I hear that because of the cut-backs the prisons are getting more violent. My son got out of the system but now is back in it again. His gf got a new job which she loves and is so glad to finally be out of prison.

Nancy - Oh I see, no "date night" probably won't work then. You've got a really tricky situation since she is his dd who I'm sure he loves and likes to treat too. You don't want to come between them as that makes you the "bad guy" and can cause resentment but yet have your own need to have time alone with him too and that is perfectly natural too as his SO. It sounds like you have made your wishes known to both of them, but you might try once more talking to his dd explaining that you really need just that one night a week with him so keep your relationship good. If she brings up your parents being there, explain like you have to us that it is different since they go home right after the meal. OR, perhaps you can encourage your SO and his DD to have have a night out together...just the two of them...in exchange for this one night alone with him. Maybe you've tried these things. I hope you can work things out and still keep peace. Families can be so trying sometimes!

Riemontana - I get so many great ideas from my GGs! I like your WW ice cream night! Will try it. Right now I have the sugar free fudgsicles in my freezer and I told myself I'd be careful and only have one every now and then. Well yesterday I had 4 (singles)! I stayed within my calorie allowance but I wish I had more control. I think your picture looks great! I should look so good!

Glynne - your dh and mine sound exactly alike! My dh is retired military (33 1/2 years) and he is SO disciplined. He can make a candy bar last 3 weeks! I'm not kidding!! There is something wrong with this man!! So, no, he cannot understand my lack of control at all. Seriously though I really wish I could be more like him in regard to food.

Hey GGs,
My subject today is CAPS & HATS! I now love them. I needed to run to a couple of stores this morning, & my hair was all limp & flat, but I really didn’t have time to do anything with it. So I just twisted it up in a ponytail, & shoved it up in this nifty little tan cap I picked up on clearance last week, & I was good to go. Why didn’t I figure this out sooner?! All this time I’ve been hating the way my hair looked, & the solution was this easy - cover it up! I may come to be known as the “hat lady” (or more likely the "crazy hat lady"!), but that’s ok.

Mary, thanks for the advice. I like the idea of SO & his DD having their own night out, & I’ll suggest it, but I’m betting neither one of them will want to do it. I could be wrong - we’ll see.

Before I go - Hi there Hedgehog. Welcome to the GGs. And Donna, I never know when you’re serious, have you really done all that? I’m very impressed, & I think, somewhat intimidated. Well, I’d better get back to doing the things I’m supposed to be doing.

Later y’all.
