Hi. *nervous smile* I guess I can be a little shy, but here's my introduction.

Age: 20

Occupation: Chemistry student (graduating in May!)

Location: Texas

marital status/children/pets: engaged, no, and two rabbits (They're so adorable! And they encourage me to eat more fruits and veggies.)

Hobbies: books, video games, studying, knitting, working out (trying to make that one stick!) and baking...I love baking. Cakes, cookies, pies, breads, muffins...well, you might be getting some idea of where my extra weight came from.

Height: 5' 9"

Starting date: I've been slowly making lifestyle adjustments over the past couple years, and I started on the offensive (and took my official starting weight) January 5th.

Starting weight: 200

Present weight: 196

Goal weight: 162...it's the number I get if I lose ten percent of my body mass, which I understand physicians advise for a starting target, and then ten percent again.

Biggest hurdle: My mind can be a little difficult about food...I had some pretty severe depression issues during my early and mid teens that kept my appetite low and my body very skinny, and when I was 17 my parents and I had a falling out that left me penniless for several months. I ate whatever I could find for free...came down with pneumonia for a month and dropped even more weight. When I did finally find a job I ate like, well, I'd been starving. Three and a half years and 70 pounds later I still have a hard time shaking the notion that I should eat any food I can while I've got the chance.

Strategy: My primary attack is with exercise. I took a weight training class last semester and have been slowly working on my cardiovascular endurance...last November I ran a whole mile for the first time in my life. (Yeah, I was never one of those children who felt compelled to more around much...physical fitness is all very new to me. My long, long-term fitness goal: my first ever pull-up.) Now I'm doing a treadmill 40 minutes five days a week (running as long as I can in the first part, then doing a driving walk to finish things out) and strength training 2-3 times a week. For diet I'm trying to wean myself to smaller portions and convince myself to slow down when I'm eating...I've discovered the virtues of cottage cheese and whole grain cereals, so I've got better ways now to keep my blood sugar from falling through the floor during the day, and I only have to cook for dinner. So far it's working pretty well, I'm down four pounds!

Eye/Hair Color: Red hair, green eyes

Starting Date of Weightloss Journey: Yesterday!

Starting Weight: 207

Following any specific plan: Atkins

Age: 23

Marital Status: Single

Children/Ages: none

Occupation: TSS Worker (work with kids with mental issues)

Pets: a cat named Velvet

Hobbies/Interests: shopping, reading, writing, going out with friends, listening to music.

Height: 5'8"

Eye/Hair Color: brown/dark brown

Starting Date of Weightloss Journey: well, this one starts today

Starting Weight: 247
Present Weight: 247

Goal Weight: 160. But being below 200 would be nice.

Biggest hurdle to overcome in weightloss: I love to eat and I hate to exercise. I work 6-7 hrs a day with kids and I come home tired and I don't feel like doing anything except eat.

Following any specific plan: I'm going to start the South Beach Diet. I've realized that I need to do a lifestyle change, not a diet.

What is different this time in your weight loss efforts than in the past: This time, I want to change my life, not just lose weight for a short period of time.

Anything else you would like to share with us: I'm nervous about all of this but I'm ready.

Post about me

First name (if you want to tell): Stacey

Geographical location: Toledo, OH

Age: 24

Marital Status: living in sin with BF

Children/Ages: none

Occupation: social worker in the mental health field

Pets: Gwendolyn (long haired tiger cat) and Gracie (short haired dark grey cat)

Hobbies/Interests: shopping (sales are the best!), watching reality tv and the food network, reading (books and magazines), and being with my family, boyfriend, and friends.

Height: 5'4"

Eye/Hair Color: Brown/Dark brown with some highlights

Starting Date of Weightloss Journey: This time I started the day after new years. I have had a hard time this weekend but I am getting serious again. Last year I lost 30 lbs. but gained it back before the year was over. More determined this time I hope!

Starting Weight: 173

Present Weight: 168

Goal Weight: 130, then I can adjust from there.

Biggest hurdle to overcome in weightloss: WEEKENDS! i can be serious all week long but starting Saturday morning I lose all sense of control until Monday! I need to work on this bad!

Following any specific plan: I just got "You on a Diet; The Owner's Manual for Waist Management." I like the general idea of the book and have found that it seems to work in that I am fuller longer abnd have noticed a change in the scale. Previously I have followed WW and the South Beach Diet.

What is different this time in your weight loss efforts than in the past: I now know I can lose the weight (last year is proof of this) and that my struggle keeping it of is what I need to focus on. This is a lifestyle change, not a short fix.

First name (if you want to tell): Lisa

Geographical location: Utah

Age: 28

Marital Status: Single

Children/Ages: none

Occupation: Graduate Student

Pets: Little white fluffy dog. The humane society claims he's a Jack Russell Terrier but no one ever believes me.

Hobbies/Interests: science, nature, walking the dog, reading

Height: 5'8"

Eye/Hair Color: blueish/light brown

Starting Date of Weightloss Journey: Probally most of my adult life

Starting Weight: 220

Present Weight: 220

Goal Weight: 160ish would give me a healthy BMI

Biggest hurdle to overcome in weightloss: PMS eating, eating junk because it's fast (grad school takes a lot of time), squeezing in exercise

Following any specific plan: Trying to eat more veggies, walk to public transportation and then to work rather than drive all the way there. Squeeze in extra exercise where I can.

What is different this time in your weight loss efforts than in the past: I feel like this time I'm doing it more for my health than for vanity reasons. My father (age 55) was recently diagnosed with congestive heart failure and I really don't want to have similar problems.

Anything else you would like to share with us: Hmmm... I've been lurking around for a while (was posting a bit about a year ago) and figured I should re-introduce myself before joining in again

Age: 19 (i'll be 20 in 8 months, is that ok?)

Marital Status: In a relationship

Children/Ages: Not yet

Occupation: College student

Pets: None at the moment, I would love to have another pug eventually.

Hobbies/Interests: designing (interior/architectural), scrapbooking, taking nice long bubble baths, pampering myself (nails, pedicures, etc...), getting all gussied up to see my boyfriend (I don't HAVE to but I find it fun), working out(recently), tanning (yes, I know BAD BAD BAD but since my gym offers it for free it's a little "incentive" to work out), shopping (although I don't tend to fit into the cute clothes I love )

Height: 5'5"

Eye/Hair Color: dark brown/dark brown

Starting Date of Weightloss Journey: Been dieting for a while but I have been "serious" since New Year's.

Starting Weight: 286

Present Weight: 270

Goal Weight: 120-130

Biggest hurdle to overcome in weightloss: I have an abusive relationship with Ronald McDonald, luckily I've been able to stay away recently.

Following any specific plan: LA Weightloss to a T.

What is different this time in your weight loss efforts than in the past: I feel like this is not a diet but more of a lifestyle change. I'm also finally for the first time really happy about who I am.

Anything else you would like to share with us: Nothing I can think of at this moment

Present Weight: 204

Goal Weight: 150

Biggest hurdle to overcome in weightloss: I love to snack and I love snack/finger foods. Also, getting the motivation to exercise. I'm just lazy...lol.

Following any specific plan: yes, the Fat Smash Diet

What is different this time in your weight loss efforts than in the past: I've been doing this for over a week now and I haven't given up. In the past, I never really "tried" to lose weight...of course I knew I wasn't going to be over 200 and if I did get that far I was going to go on a diet...or so I said back in highschool LOL. Before I didn't have my husband helping me. For some reason, I just KNOW I have to do this...for my sake and my son's.

First name (if you want to tell): Jennie

Geographical location: Maine

Age: 21

Marital Status: BF of 5 years

Children/Ages: none

Occupation: College Student/Retail

Pets: Black lab at my parent's house, shes 10 years old

Hobbies/Interests: Computer games, watching movies, shopping

Height: 5'8"

Eye/Hair Color: Green/Brown

Starting Date of Weightloss Journey: The current one.. This monday lol

Starting Weight: 190

Present Weight: 186.6

Goal Weight: I'll be happy when im 145 again.. long term, maybe 125-30

Biggest hurdle to overcome in weightloss: I love food.. all kinds of food.. thai, mexican, italian, japanese, everrrything.. I also like to drink a lot.. I love margaritas.. I'm trying to stop that! I eat everything in front of my computer or the TV... neither my boyfriend's apartment or my dorm room even have a table.. but I've really always eaten in front of my computer since i was in grade school lol. I love to eat out at restaurants.. more for the experience than the food I suppose. I also have a HUGE sweet tooth.. I've been pretty good with the no candy thing so far surprisingly. I also love to sit around, and do nothing.. my friends love to sit around and do nothing with me.. they also like to drink while sitting around, doing nothing.. :/ gotta love this state! I like naps, and laying in bed with my laptop or watching tv >_>... I guess I am incredibly lazy.. I try to deny it but it kinda sinks in when I write it down lol.. Im really going to try and shift my butt around in some form of aerobic exercise

Following any specific plan: I cant follow trend diets, whats really weird is that all low carbohydrate diets mess with my body REALLY bad.. my menstrual cycle goes all screwy and lasts 3 weeks instead of 4 days for example! I think carbs are like heroin for me, I cant stop eating them or my body goes into shock lol.. I tried the fat smash diet before the holidays and I find that when I am forced to cut certain foods out completely, I just say screw it and give up. So I am trying to eat as healthy as possible, but also eating what I crave, while staying under 1500 calories. I haven't started an exercise plan yet but I think I'm going to join a gym with my mom once shes back from her trip next week.

What is different this time in your weight loss efforts than in the past: Well, I went from 145 to 160 my first year in college, and then went on a very restrictive diet and got back to 135 in just a few months.. but I never believed all the stuff I heard about gaining it back and then some once I went back to eating normally.. so here I am at 190lbs almost three years later lol. This time I'm sticking to a plan that will be easier to maintain after I've lost the weight

Geographical location: California

Age: 25

Marital Status: single

Children/Ages: none

Occupation: grad student/assistant librarian

Pets: my roommate is getting a dog on Monday!

Hobbies/Interests: traveling, reading, trivia, knitting, concerts, dinosaurs, dogs, libraries

Height: 5'3"

Eye/Hair Color: blue/dirty blonde

Starting Date of Weightloss Journey: hmmm - it's an ongoing battle but this time around started last weekend when I purchased a scale.

Starting Weight: 160

Present Weight: 158

Goal Weight: 130 (Although 128 sounds better in my head)

Biggest hurdle to overcome in weightloss: Lately I have become a real emotional eater... if I have a bad day I will reward myself with food or something sweet. I also tend to eat out of boredom. I need to start making meal plans and stick with them.

Following any specific plan: I am keeping a food journal at fitday and working out 4-5 times a week.

What is different this time in your weight loss efforts than in the past: I realize that I need to make a life change now before it's too late. My "fat clothes" are all too tight right now and I can't stand to look at pictures of myself from the past few months (my face seems to have ballooned!). Keeping a food journal and posting here will help keep me accountable.

Anything else you would like to share with us: I joined this forum awhile back but never really participated (just kind of lurked). But this time around I really want to make the weightloss stay and am looking for some motivation! (<--- had to try this guy out)

Pets: Cats: 2 inside due to winter(one was disabled by a coyote attack and the other was a hitchhiking baby kitten), 7 outside on the job. 1 Dog, sunshine who is lab/pyranese mix. 2 goats, Anastasia an American alpine; the other willow a saanen; both are expecting in May. 8 Chickens, black austrolopes, 1 rooster all are still learning to sit on eggs. 1 guinie hen who thinks she is a chicken. And a gang of bunnies...at least 12.

Hobbies/Interests: homesteading, home schooling

Height: 5'9"
Eye/Hair Color: green-hazel

Starting Date of Weightloss Journey: Still trying to start.

Starting Weight: 185

Present Weight: 185

Goal Weight: 1: 10% of current (166) 2:10% of 1 (149) 3: 10% of 2 (135)

Biggest hurdle to overcome in weightloss: I snack. I cook for my family. I am on a budget. I am anemic. I have no energy. I am sedentary.

Following any specific plan: Settled on Volumetrics and healthy eating.

What is different this time in your weight loss efforts than in the past: I have never had a problem maintaining. Even after both my pregnancies I lost back down or past my norm without trying. I have always been chubby though with a norm of 165. Which wasn't horrible for my height but I can't say I was happy about it, but not so unhappy that I tried to do anything about it. But last year we went through a big ordeal and a move from california to missouri, looking for a new house living out of a hotel. I packed on 20 pound in 2 months. I have never been this heavy since I actually was at full term! I feel unhealthy and with the anemia it's just compounded.

Anything else you would like to share with us: I am having a novasure done on January 6th!

Age: 22

Marital Status: Long distance relationship

Children/Ages: None

Pets: None

Hobbies/Interests: School's all I have time for lately, but I like going out with my friends, singing, dancing, and watching movies and Grey's Anatomy

Height: 4'11"

Eye/Hair Color: Dark brown/black

Starting Date of Weight loss Journey: Today...but this is a journey I've been headed for my entire life

Starting Weight: 186? I haven't stepped on a scale in months

Present Weight: Probably 186ish

Goal Weight: About 115-125

Biggest hurdle to overcome in weight loss: Right now I live in a dorm and don't have many food options, and the only things around are fast food restaurants. Also I've always been the type to eat while I'm studying late at night...that's what caused my 40 pound weight gain since I graduated high school.

Following any specific plan: I want to go back on South Beach, but the easiest thing for me to do right now will probably be calorie counting

What is different this time in your weight loss efforts than in the past: I'm more motivated than I have been in the past. I have a family history of diabetes and hypertension, and I'm scared I'm headed in that same direction.

Anything else you would like to share with us: I really have no idea how I'm going to do this without exercise. Like I said, I live in a dorm and I don't have access to a gym, and it's way too scary around here to go running or walking by myself. Any suggestions?
