An interesting roller coaster ride, I Lost 12 pounds this week of the 15 pounds gained in three days last week. I was back in the hospital this Tuesday for 24 hours with significant chest pain. Testing showed no heart attack, that is good. I have been diagnosed with unstable angina, not so good. Seems one of my bypass grafts is atrophying, really not good. They gave me four new medications and say they can treat it without surgery, Really good news. Stay tuned, the saga continues.

Thanksgiving goal weight is 184 pounds

July 07 ~ 226
July 14 ~ 224

Larry that is a real rollercoaster! I am glad you didn't have a heart attack and it's awesome news that they can treat the angina without surgery. Good luck!

As for me, I'm finally posting a loss again after a couple of weeks of struggling. I'm down 4lbs this week to 199.8 -- so I've also entered into ONEderland! Yay!

Larry, hang in there. Sounds like you've had a rough couple weeks. Gald you don't need surgery.

Congratulations on the 4 pounds lost, Angie. Can't wait until I get to ONEderland!

Crazy Week. Eric leaves tomorrow. I'm SO sad. Weepy and emo all day. Not to mention I have a million projects due and I worked on one photography narrative all week and hit a wall when the instructor told me it's too literal. I have one week to toss out this one and get back in the saddle - critique is next Thursday. I suspect, on top of it, I have PMS.

I did join a gym. Today was my first day. I did 20 minutes on the elliptical on level 6 and 18 minutes on the recumbent on level 7. I'm going away to shoot ghost towns this weekend to get my brain off of Eric leaving for 11 weeks. My sodium has been RIDICULOUSLY high, which is frustrating, but I've managed to stay on plan (even though there's freaking CHEESE CAKE in the *(^ &*^* fridge as I type and I'm SO much the emotional eater).

Anyway. Here are my stats for this week.

Hang in there Larry!

I haven't done my best these past few weeks. I've been having breathing issues which my doctor says is an anxiety attack. I hope she's right!

Down 1.1 this week to 249.3. Super excited by my progress but I'd better step it up if I'm going to reach my goal. I think I can, I think I can, I think I can!

April -- You are doing great with your exercise this month! And clearly the scale is reflective of your efforts. GREAT job!!

1oftheLuvs -- Yes! A long-term down trend is more valuable to me than quick drops any day. I trust the slow stuff much more. WTG!

Lianna -- Great start! Keep it up!

SweetTreat -- You are most welcome! How are you feeling this week?

Hillary -- GREAT job this week. Amazing what you can accomplish when you put your mind to it, eh? WTG!

Roxy -- Oh yea. HA! Nice loss this week girly!

Aletheia -- Definitely a decent week. Keep it up!

GreatPerhaps -- Nice job keeping things in check. You might not have done great but a loss is a loss so that means you did somethin' right!

Rennie -- You CAN do it!

Kyalpn -- Slow and steady most definitely wins the race. Nice work this week!

BlueCat -- Woo hoo!! Nice job sticking with it!!!

Larry -- Man oh man is your scale throwing out some crazy numbers! Sending : that things settle down and get healthy with your heart.

Angie -- Way to stick with it woman! YOU DID IT!

Wyllowbelle -- So sorry about Eric leaving. That is a REALLY long time. Stay strong and stay focused on your goals. You CAN do this!

Karen -- 9lbs in 4 weeks is nothin' to shake a stick at. You're doing something right! you get the breathing issues worked out sooner rather than later.

Larry - I am sorry about your roller coaster. I'm glad the docs say they can treat it with meds and that there wasn't a heart attack. My dad deals with angina, it's not fun, but still very preferable to a heart attack. He had relief pretty quickly once he got on meds, I hope the same for you. I bet the docs are proud of you with all the weight loss too and that has got to make treating these issues easier. Hang in there. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I forgot to check in on Wednesday - I updated my original post - I stayed the same this week. This is OK - I've decided to rethink how I look and slow things down a bit - for a few weeks, anyway, and get my "mojo" back, so to speak. I'm 13.4 pounds from the goal I set in January. Now I realize how hard it is to set a goal that far away! I find all sorts of conflicting thoughts creeping in lately.

1) I'm heavier than I want to be but I feel great and look so much better than I did at 252 pounds that it seems "OK" to stop losing for a while

2) When I think about stopping for a while, I feel like I'm quitting or giving up on my goal

3) I look lots better with clothes on, but "naked" is starting to get scary

4) It seems vain to be worried about slightly baggy upper arms and thighs when I never seemed to be concerned about really fat upper arms and thighs (and stomach, butt, calves, face, etc.)

5) Friends and family members have told me I've lost enough. Comments like, "You can stop now" and "Certainly you don't intend to keep this up much longer" are getting tiresome. I'm still 25 pounds heavier than high school and 15 pounds heavier than my "good" adult weight. No one ever told me I was too thin back then, so why now?

6) And so on and so on - I think we all face some of this stuff.

I've decided to still weigh myself every day and only record what I weigh on Wednesday - same as always. But I'm slowing things down a bit. Since I never was on any set plan, I will continue that way, but now I'm very consciously trying to "eat like a thin person." Not sure if I can explain that. I have a mental picture of how my DD eats. She is thin, but works at it by eating a healthy diet and she runs (I'll never be a runner) and goes to a gym. And how my thin friends eat. When I eat now, I find myself trying to put the same sorts of things on my plate that they do. I realize that they make choices every meal, too. They just do a better job of making the good choices. That's what I'm trying to do, too, because I want the weight loss phase of this year to be just a phase. I want maintenance to be my new way of living. And I want there to be a time when I don't think about it as "maintenance" but just think of it as "life."

We'll see how this goes. I'd still like to be at my goal of 152 by mid December. That is 100 pounds in 11 months. Such even, round numbers. My OCD is creeping in! But not at the expense of my newly found sense of feeling and looking better than ever in the last 20 - 25 years. What did that Billy Crystal character (Fernando?) used to say on Saturday Night Live? "It's better to LOOK good than to FEEL good." I don't believe that, but I don't want to look bad, either. Thanks for listening. I'm sure I'll return to my normal upbeat self soon. Have a great weekend, everyone.

Lin

down 3 lbs for the week to 210.4

I've lost 28 lbs so far since the start of this challenge and now have just over 10 lbs to go to get to Onederland. When I first started this challenge, I thought I was crazy to even think I could get to Onederland by Thanksgiving but hoped that this challenge would keep me on track enough so that I'd be able to get there by Christmas. Now I'm thinking maybe I can do it by Halloween!!!

Your thought process totally makes sense to me, Lin.

We're the same height and you're almost exactly the weight I was when I met my husband. I felt pretty dang good at that weight. You are just a couple of pounds over my original goal; I changed it when I realized that 159would squeak me into the healthy weight category.

You may find that during your practice maintenance that you continue to lose a few pounds. With all the exercise you are getting, you'll probably still see a lot of changes over the next few months even if you don't lose another ounce.

You can always go back into weight loss mode if you feel after a while that you still have a few pounds to lose.

Have you been over to the maintenance forum? If not, you may want to add that to you places to visit on the site.

You've done an amazing job!
