I’m going down!
Uncategorized August 18th, 2009Yeah, baby! A new low in the weigh in today give me 3 pounds to go til I am back to where I started. Hmmmm, now that I typed that it doesn’t sound as good; it sounds like I should have never gone back up!! Meh, live and learn.
Eating has been okay, but definitely could be better. My 2nd interview yesterday went well, and I ate well up to it, but I got home and was starving so I ate soup then crackers then nilla wafers, which I don’t even like. UGH. I did make up for it by eating a kids meal last night at Chili’s ( I know, all these restaurants here!) with veggies and not fries. And no chips or dessert. Go me! I’m trying hard today to fight the snacky urge.
I got up and miracle of miracles, I ran! I didn’t want to, but I did. My usual 30min route. It was good, hard, but good.
Later, chickies!

OMG! I was reading and thinking…Where IS she? Kept reading until I got to Naha and Okinawa. Spent three years there when hubby was in the army so I know exactly what you’re talking about. Just recently, one of my sons asked something about Naha and I was trying to show him on a map where we lived in relation to Naha. Cool! I’d love to go back there someday.

You’ve gotten me thinking about Okinawa. We were there for three years from 1974 - 1977. I’m sure a lot has changed. We lived on base in Makiminato Housing Area. Okinawa proved a good base for visits to the Phillipines, Taiwan, and South Korea back then and we had a great time visiting them.
I got a job in a Japanese High School teaching English. I didn’t speak a word or Japanese but these kids had been taking classes in English for six years and my job was simply to meet with them twice a week to hold conversations in English and correct pronunciation and grammar. I loved it! The kids were great and were always bringing me presents. I held the same job with a Japanese law firm, going out to dinner with the staff weekly to hold dinner table conversations in english so the staff could work on improving their speaking skills in order to get more english speaking clients. I got taken to some great restaurants and, shortly after I started working with them, they asked me to bring hubby and the kids, as well. We got treated to some great kobe beef dinners and the pay was fantastic.
About those roads…been there, done that. I still remember the round mirrors placed at intersections so you could see if anything was coming around the corner. Many times, I had to take part of the turn, back up and cut the wheel, and complete the turn.

Yes, I loved it. The first year and the last year. The first year, everything was new and exciting. The second year, I was kind of homesick and felt like we had a long way to go. The third year, I realized we’d be leaving soon and would probably never have an opportunity like this again so we traveled and explored and tried to squeeze every last drop out of the experience.
To date, that’s still the most beautiful diving I’ve ever done and I’ve been to a lot of places. The reefs and marine life were absolutely beautiful!
