Thank you ladies for your early weigh in :)

As for everyone else DONT FORGET TO WEIGH IN :) I will post tomorrow for you.

SW: 170

Hopefully TOM is juist being sneaky, but I do feel I've been eating more.

KindyMom 11-20-2008 12:03 PM

I have finally budged from my starting weight:

SW 158.5
CW 157.5

TOM is coming, so I am not feeling very optimistic about my Thanksgiving mini-goal (156). But I will still try!

Darby1 11-20-2008 12:56 PM

SW-215
CW-214

Next week is TOM, so hopefully that's it. I also realize that I haven't been eating in a consistent way either. I eat real healthy one day, and go crazy the next.

I've worked out 17 days in a row, which is great, but it just goes to show that as far as weight loss goes, what really matters is what you put into your body. Unless you train like an athlete, of course.

Hi, ladies. My current weight is 153.5. If I lose a pound by Thanksgiving, I'll be happy. After some deliberation, I have decided to go with Joel Fuhrman's "Eat For Health" (Eat To Live), to lose the weight. I eat way too much processed crap, and, accept for Thanksgiving, I will be following the guidelines. I enitially wanted to go totally raw, but, it's just to hard. This is the best of both worlds, lots of salads, soups, steel cut oats and green smoothies steamed veggies hummus, etc, and none of the soy analogs, granola bread chips ice cream. I'm pretty stoked. It took a while to learn it, but, I think I have it down, it's just a different way of eating than I am used to. Also, I have terrible asthma, and my cholesterol is higher than I'd like. Anybody on these boads had success with ETL? Wish me luck.
Amie

Hey everyone,

It's so quite around here!

I've had a rough last couple of day. My boyfriend and I got into a dispute about veganism. I know he loves to debate with me (he says he likes to see the spark in my eyes) but he didn't really give me a chance to defend my beliefs and he was talking about veganism in relation to business ethics (he is in his 4th year of getting a management degree. It just really made me down. I sent him a email afterwards saying how I'm not trying to make him become vegan, I'm just excited to share what I'm learning and experiencing with him, but he sent an email back that was just kinda mean. Here's part of it:

"... i had to take a business ethics class with what i call an animal rights freak. not because the animals deserve rights but because this girl would have given her life to save those animals. while they are god's creatures, i firmly believe that we are a higher life form and that giving ones life for an animal is ridiculous. i understand that we need to care for them. until there is a system that can support the entire meat eating population of the world that (proper care of animals raised for food) will not happen. im not applying the everyone's doing it theory. i am merely saying that stopping eating meat will not solve the problem...
i love you and would love to talk about it but know that my stance is firmly in the way of business and its RIGHT by the laws of the world to operate as it does. i am a very ethical person but you cannot win every battle and i have chosen to not waste my time (im not saying you are wasting yours if its what you believe) supporting something i do not believe in. perhaps the health side will be what "wins" me over...
when you get back you have to teach me lots. i will eat meat still (NOwhere near as much) but my family will not be very accepting of me at bbqs if i dont! my dad takes great pride in being able to provide for me and telling him that i dont eat what he provides is something that i will never be able to do. i will do better to select free range cow."

It upset me so much that I was crying by the end. I have no idea what he means by several of his statements. How is it right by the laws of the world for humans to kill animals??? I'm just confused by him because I know he is trying to cut out meat, but maybe this is just for health reasons. Like yesterday he said he ordered nachos and they came with beef in the cheese so he didn't eat them. But his email just upset me. He is clearly lacking proper information and I sent him the link to the vegan podcasts which I found super informative but he has only listened to one! Maybe it's the long distance... I'm not there and maybe he doesn't really want to know what happens to animals.

On the plus side I was so stressed I've started going to the gym again.

Darby - Great job on the exercise! You are so right about what we eat being important. I think I've been using "oh I ran 3 miles today so I can eat more" as a crutch for a bit - need to get over that ;) I saw on another thread that you are an esthetician (how cool). I want/need to get my brows and other areas waxed but wasn't sure how to go about finding a vegan wax - do you have any suggestions for how to find a salon that offers that? I know I could just call a bunch but I'm not even sure what to ask for.

Amie - I haven't read the book but I think anytime you're eating food and not processed stuff it's good for you. I try to eat mostly whole foods and I've felt so much better since actively striving to do this.

Ballys - I went earlier this year to compare to my YMCA. It was a very HARD sell. I have no problems saying no but just be aware if you go!

Dee - I think you changed to vegan pretty recently? I hate to hear the bf is being a bit hard to handle but it does sound like he's trying to be respectful in his own way. I had several heated conversations with my friendboy (ex that is now one of my best friends) when I first changed. I was so excited about my lifestyle change and pretty much every conversation we had I brought up veganism and new facts I was learning. I finally realized it took me a long time to come around and bombarding him with stuff wasn't really going to help. We've now reached a comfortable level - I bring things up occasionally and he'll even ask about it from time to time. He's probably never going to be vegan but he pays more attention now and is more aware of his purchases. I think being patient and letting others come around is probably the best method (at least in my circle of friends and family). Give him some time and realize that he's trying to adjust to your changes. I also think some people treat it as a passing fad and once some time passes and you are still fully dedicated others will realize just how serious it is to you. Good luck!

Fat Chick B Gone 11-22-2008 10:21 AM

Ugh I completely overdid the eating the past two days and feel like crud about it - food hangover if you will. Rededicated today however. I think it is the stress from my exam on Monday that made me overeat - didn't even realize it until this morning.
