But the interesting thing was that between the peanut sauce and the veggies, you put a layer of mashed chickpeas (the "Chick'un" part). I thought that was pretty weird, but tried it just to test the recipe. I actually couldn't even taste them, but they added some nice bulk, texture and protein to the dish. |

Hey everyone. Its great to see everyone talking so much in here :)
I went on a day trip to Dublin yesterday and it was a 3 hour 40 minute bus ride there and a 3 hour and 40 minute bus ride back. On the way there I listened to a bunch of vegan podcasts from compassionatecooks.com and learned a lot. One quote from the podcast that I really liked was: The thinking person must oppose all cruel customs no matter how deeply rooted in tradition and surrounded by a halo. When we have a choice, we must avoid bringing torment and injury into the life of another, even the lowliest creature; to do so is to renounce our manhood and shoulder a guilt which nothing justifies. -- Albert Schweitzer Then on the way back I started listening to a podcast, but because the bus was full I was sitting next to a guy around my age and after about 30 minutes he engaged me in conversation. After about half an hour we started talking about vegetarianism/veganism. I was scared at first, but the conversation turned out great. Luckily from all the podcasts I had been listening to I knew the truthful responses to things like "humans were meant to eat meet, just look at our incisors" and I was able to talk intelligibly but without forcing my opinions on him. He really got into the conversation and started asking all these question and asked me to email him the link to the podcasts so that he can learn more about the truth of the meat/dairy industry. I was so happy :) I don't want to be afraid to share how I feel with people. I wish everyone could know the truth about how animals are treated, but most people prefer to live in blind ignorance. The truth is painful, but it needs to be shared. I know I'm intimidated to talk to those who knew me before I became vegetarian, but after making an influence on a stranger I feel more empowered. I started thinking that I might have a duty to speak for the animals because they can't speak for themselves. (Oh! I sound like an activist :-p) Ok thats my happy/activist rant for the day :) Dee |
wow those potato pizzas look so good i am def. gonna make those, thanks for sharing!

Those potato pizzas look good, and the thai peanut pizza sounds great too!
I haven't been doing so well on my diet, I drank way too much on Friday night so Saturday was a big old binge day for me! I know that is what happens so I have to change my mentality about the situation!!! I need to even stop saying I am going to have just a glass or two of wine- its always more. Maybe just absolutely no drinking at the house- if I don't have a bottle of wine here I can't drink it right? oh well... getting back on track today. Did you guys know that some beer has isinglass in it? Like Guiness isn't vegetarian friendly? I just learned that... thought I would share! |
Here's a list of vegan beer and here's a list of vegan wine.
It really is shocking how difficult it is to be 100% vegan. When I first started out I read somewhere that nobody really could be because even cars and computers were somehow not vegan. I never did find out what makes them not vegan, but obviously it would be very difficult to give up those two items. rdw-my diet suffers because of wine consumption too! |
Thanks Darby!

Tigger, neat experience. Thanks for sharing it. Well really, thanks for making it happen in the first place. You spoke up! And apparently you did it in a very friendly way that made him receptive. Good job!

This is true. I'm on a veg*n forum as well and this discussion came up. It really is about progress not perfection. It's not practical to say that life can be lived in today's society without certain items. There is inevitably something tested by animals in alot of products we use, and unfortunately only some of them can be avoided. I know it's not practical for me to give up my car, as my job is 20 miles away and my school is 10. I need a computer for school. Even if I were to switch to say...a typewriter, who's to say that the ink doesn't have an animal derivative. It really is sad. Animals shouldn't have to suffer so we can make ink spread a little faster. Especially in this day in age, when we can replicate almost anything. It's ridiculous. <.end rant> |
Tigger Im so glad you got a chance to listen to the podcast. They have also helped me in conversation by giving me facts to use and empowerment in a way.
one of my favorite quotes of hers...may not be exact but its goes like this "being vegan isnt about being perfect, its about doing the best you can to prevent animal suffering" |
Hey ladies

I use frozen b.s. I steam them, then cut them in half, put them in a pan with a little olive oil and fresh chopped garlic... then after about 4 minutes I add red peppers & salt. I leave them in until they're a little brown then add Hosein Garlic Sauce a minute before I take them out. It's soooo goood! I decided I'm going to make a stir fry tonight :) This is what I'm going to use: Rice Pilaf topped with broccoli, mushrooms, bell peppers, carrots, snow peas, garlic & sliced almonds. Then some Hosein Garlic Sauce. My favorite sauce mmm... |
