Michele growing up I always made mince pies on Christmas Eve. Haven't done them in a lot of years. I decided I'd make them this year. Now can I remember how to make puff pastry.
13 and 15 fun age. I have 3 girls

I remember the double issue of Radio Times, used to love looking through it to see what would be on over christmas and new year.

I still have a bit of shopping to do only 12 days left

hello chicks!
Thanks for the encouragement helen! I live along the kirkstall rd, so dunno hw close ur runnig club is, and also how "suitable" i mite be cos am strugling to get upto 1/2 hour on the treadmil. Is it full of serious running types?!
Todays actvity consisted of some serious countryside rambling, it was rainy and muddy as **** but i really enjoyed all the walking.
This came as a particular shock to me as i just iam the least outdorsy person in general!!!!

Oh how i yearn for mince pies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My club meets at Kirkstall leisure centre so probably pretty close to you. We have all types - usually club runs are about 10k, but there's usually a shorter and a longer option, and there are plenty of slower people there, it's one of the more relaxed clubs in Leeds. I would struggle to keep up at some of the other clubs, but I'm in the middle group and one of the faster girls at mine. All the runs (except time trials but they're not compulsory) include stops where we wait for everyone to catch up and then start off again. It might help with half marathon training if you feel like you need some moral support.

12.5 miles in the end, I've decided that lucozade sport is the work of the devil. I ran just under 10 miles on Saturday with no drink at all and felt wonderful, today I took some lucozade with me and felt sick after about 9 miles. At least the weather wasn't too bad, fairly windy but nowhere near as wet as the last one I did. I wasn't happy about the killer hill between 6 and 7 miles though.

I'm currently settling my stomach with soreen (by the way, who mentionned soreen christmas - I've been looking everywhere for it and can't find it) and water, then off to bed in a bit.

I have never had mince pie, I feel like I'm missing something!!!

I have not purchased one Christmas present yet, and I feel no sense of urgency, I guess I better get on the ball.

I've had a great exercise and food week, the holidays are sooooo hard, I'm kind of ready for them to be over, there is just so much temptation everywhere. Sounds like everyone here is doing pretty well though.

My cat is chasing my fingers on the keyboard, she makes me laugh.

Chris I hope your having fun with your son, and your Mother.

Lou how is the new kitty???

Michelle hopefully your boys are being nicer to each other!!! My sister has 12 year old twins (girl and boy) and a 13 year old. Someone is always at war in that house.

Chris say hi to your mum. Step away from the chocolate.

Redsoxgirl do you have a World Market near you? They sell mince pies. They have Mr Kipling and Walker's. Love them warm with a little cream.

Oh Freethetoys - you have made me laugh - even when I don't feel very well.

Well, I survived last evening. There are times when you don't feel like cooking roast beef, yorkshire pud and a mountain of vegetables for 6 and last night was one of them - but everyone had been invited so I just had to get on with it. It wasn't until bedtime that it occurred to me we could all have gone to the local carvery for the same meal and I could have saved myself the cooking and clearning up. Ah well!!! Anyway I ate a reasonable dinner and avoided any dessert or cheese. This morning its almost gone - well... at least I feel well enough to walk the dogs (yes, Chris, I've checked that my mobile is charged!!! )

Forgot to say that DH put the Christmas tree up yesterday afternoon - and as soon as she was left unsupervised Ellie took it straight back down again! So he put it back up again and all the while she was growling at it - and as soon as he turned on the lights she started barking - she obviously feels its threatening in some way.

So DH took it back down and its looking very tatty now (it was a real tree) - so now we're going to have to buy another one - probably a smaller fake one this time so it doesn't smell so outdoors-y and put it up in a corner - maybe if its tucked out of the way she won't feel so scared by it. I'd love to know what was going through her mind.

Not sure what we're going to do if she can't cope with a fake tree.... I've never had Christmas without any kind of tree before! All advice and suggestions will be gratefully received!!!

One thing someone suggested for my mum's kitten was to introduce the tree without decorating it to let him get used to it and then add a bit at a time so it's less threatening and sparkly. That's partly because he likes sparkly things.

FTT - sounds like an eventful night!

Lou - good luck with the job interview. I hope you get sorted out with something soon.

I like the scales at the moment. There definitely seems to be downward movement (although maybe today's is partly due to not having rehydrated yet from last night's run?). Still, I'll take another all time low of 152 if it's offered

I was sick! But I'm at work now... Not 100% but well enough to drag my bones in for the buffet lunch and go home in the afternoon (I've taken holiday so I can fit in another kickboxing class). I'm going to do my 3 hours kickboxing tonight too, so I must be feeling better!

Sarah - hope you're feeling better

Lou - I liked Marmite as a name

Re: Christmas food. I went to Sainsbury's yesterday and bought some frozen roasting parsnips, some red cabbage (I've just discovered red cabbage!) and something else.... Oh yes some tropical smoothie fruit stuff I've got a packet of mince pies in the cupboard for the day, I've a Sainsbury's basics xmas pud and I bought some mini sausages yesterday that I've frozen, so will only eat a couple at a time. I need to buy a turkey joint and some fresh custard.

Sarah - we don't have a tree this year, but we did buy a foot high wire/sparkly/beaded thing from paperchase and it's sitting on top of our presents. We're not big into Christmas etc, we still have all our wedding cards up rather than Christmas cards!

Finally back - phew - doing two walks is taking it out of me!

We've got a sort of arched alcove in the living room and we normally put a ceiling high tree in there - but you have to walk past it each time you go from the hall in to the kitchen - and we thought that maybe that was what was freaking Ellie out. I gave DH the task of getting a fake tree and he's just texted me to say he's got a 6ft high BLACK tree in Next! BLACK?? I didn't even know they do black Christmas trees. He's hoping it'll sit on the coffee table in the far corner of the room and I'm going to take Helen's advice and just put it up bare tonight then add the lights tomorrow and the other decorations a few at a time.

Black Christmas trees - whatever next?

Frus, did you get fresh red cabbage or the pickled? I think Sainsbury also do a frozen red cabbage product but I've not tried that yet. I love spicy red cabbage and apple bake - haven't had it for ages - mmmmmmm.
