Megareth you can still have your eggs cuz they are free on both days as for Ketosis that is not a state that I want my body to be in I've read some bad things about that i.e. Many Doctors say that Ketosis is bad for you because it puts a strain on your kidneys and may be fatal If I was you i'd just stick with whats in the book SW does want you to prepare fresh food but not all people have the time or the inclination and like you said if it worked then then why not now? WeightWatchers do the same thing they tweak their diet every so often to attract more customers in my opinion but I bet if I do the Old Freedom Plan instead of the Points Plan i'd still lose weight

The guidelines are 5 - 15 syns per day. Everybody in my group is told to have 10 and this seems to be the norm. I agree that if you used to lose weight when Macaroni Cheese was free then it wouldn't hurt now. I would beware though as they have also changed other things like being able t have 2 "A" choices instead of one - be careful to not overdo it.

As for the curry sauces, I made a tikka masala last week from a recipe from a SW booklet. It was completely free on either day as I made it with quorn. I had it on a green day with rice. The originaly recipe asked for chicken but this was only free on a red day. I will happily put the recipe on here if anybody wants it.

The new magazine should be available in the shops soon as I bought one at the group on Monday. It is another good magazine. I really look forward to the magazines coming out.

Megareth - (I keep wanting to type Megadeth - as in the group!)

Don't be put off by being the only bloke there in class. After all they are all there for the same reason! If you really don't want to stay each week then can you not phone your leader with your questions? Why not try staying one night? I always used to find it helpful. We never bothered with any of the games whcih seemed pointless to us, instead we talked about our week, how good/bad we had been syn wise and let others know what food/recipes we thought were good etc.

Default slimming world (wow)

Hiya,

I have been weighed and I cannot believe it. I have lost over half a stone...I am now 14stone 4lb.

I came off lipotrim (liquid diet) last thursday after three week..pigged out on fri, sat...but sunday was on slimming world.

The last time I weighed was a week before coming off lipotrim I was 14stone 7....I might have lost more the final day with being on lipotrim. I got weighed at my sisters on Monday feeling bloated and like I was putting weight on, what with all the high carbs when everywhere everyone is praising low carbs so I really thought I was doing the wrong thing as I was warned about eating tons of high carbs.

I was 15 stone 1lb at my sisters on monday...and I did feel podgy...now within a space of a few days I feel brilliant and have lost nearly a stone. I am sticking to this diet.

Superwitch you say you made a tikka masala sauce was this the homepride? Because that has 14 syns...yet I knew someone who said it was free...any chance of enlightening me...'

Thanks

Megareth (Gareth)

Chances are that the Homepride sauce used to be free - syn values are often changing. In fact if you buy the magazine from your group instead of the shops you get an update list of which foods have changed in value.

The recipe I used was from the "50 best recipes booklet" - I think that you get it free when you join. The original recipe said chicken but I used quorn.

Default Scan Bran - love "em or hate "em?

I have just discovered a packet of scan bran in my cupboard. I had forgotten all about Scan Bran. They are recommended by Slimming World as a healthy extra and are supposed to help speed up your weight loss due to the fibre content.

You are allowed 5 as a healthy extra B on either day or they are half a syn each. They are very filling too. On their own it is a bit like chewing a carpet tile but I have to confess to really liking them with cheese spread on. When I first joined SW I used to eat them a lot.

I have decided to have some today with Laughing Cow Lite (you can have 5 triangles as a healthy extra A and at 17g per triangle they are quite chunky - just the right amount for on a scan bran). I have had 2 before lunch and am saving the other 3 for supper. This would also be a convenient thing to take with my lunch to work.

I have had the most enormous lunch - I have had Batchelors Mushroom savoury rice (free on a green day), quorn sausages and the 2 scan bran that I already mentioned. I am feeling so full - lol.

Another thing that occurred to me was that I lost 5lb the week before last but stayed the same this week. I have been racking my brains to think of what I did differently. The answer is peas. The week before last I ate bags and bags and bags of fresh peas straight from the pods. Last week I didn't eat very many as they didn't have any in the supermarket. After looking them up it turns out that they are a super speed food and also contain fibre.

I am desperate to lose weight and drop a dress size for a wedding in August and so here are my new goals :

To have at least 2 red days a week
To eat more Speed and super speed foods
To eat more fibre
To Drink more
To Exercise More

I know that if I apply myself I can do it . I just have to stop the "just this one won't hurt" attitude because that "one" often leads to a few more

Hi Gareth

I am quite ambitious in my goal. I would like to be a size 8/10 as I have so many clothes still with labels on that I have never been able to wear - lol. I was a size 8 before having kids. I put on 5 stone with my first, lost a lot of it, put it all back on with my second, lost quite a bit to get married in a size 10 (2 years ago) but up until joining SW a few months ago I was beginning to struggle to get in a size 16. I know that it will take me a while to get to my goal. I think that maintaining will be hard for me as I find it easy to slip back into bad habits. I used to be one of those irritating people (that I now hate - lol) that could eat anything and not put on weight and it made me lazy in my eating habits. I definitely eat healthier these days.

I am in a size 14 (getting looser by the day) at the moment and hope to be in a size 12 by Mid-August.

My average weight loss if 2lb in a week, my best is 5lb (the week before last). If I am totally honest with myself I do cheat a little most weeks and so could probably lose 3lb on an average week if I tried.

What are your goals?

Well done Gareth! And well done Superwitch. NO matter how much we have lost, we only really understand it when we go down a dress/trouser size or, the skirt/trouser waistband no longer cuts us in half!

I am due to go to Turkey in August but am not really going to mad to diet because I cannot now buy any more clothes! However, I am hopeful that with the (almost) guaranteed heat out there I shall not be eating so much. Well, certainly no chaocolate anyway!

Default Slimming World's Syns

Hi all,

I've been on Slimming World on and off for about 3 years now. I find it an extremely healthy diet and can never believe how much you can actually eat!

I'm writing today regarding the Macaroni Cheese debate.....I can't help but actually wonder if this is Slimming World's way of making more money out of us slimmers. You see, if syns are changing drastically then we want to know what else has now synned right, and so obviously buy more books and reintroduce ourselves to the plan - thus spending more money and time on re-learning the structure.

I remember being in class a couple of years back now and actually discovering that popcorn used to be a free food - but since people were over dosing on it (cos it's blooding nice) it was actually making them possibly put weight on, and too much surely isn't healthy right?

This brings me back to Macaroni Cheese. I would eat it by the bucket load on green days mainly due to convenience as I'm in a Pro band and we're on the road an awful lot! I am aware that Macaroni cheese does have a high fat/sugar and salt content and in this respect it ain't healthy - especially when you're having two tins a day

However, I think a good experiment would be to stick to the Slimming World regime that was, and continue to eat the Macaroni Cheese (Heinz is best...yum yum) and see what weight loss/gain you have at your class/home weigh-in. Afterall, you don't know until you try eh...? I'm gonna try this in the next couple of days and will let you all know if it makes a difference. I don't think it will personally as none of the ingredients have changed....the only change is within the literature of the new books/mags.

On a good note, in the new Slimming World book it now states that you may have two A's as well as your two B's which is pretty kewl, mainly so that you are getting a sufficient calcium amount. Wouldn't recommend having two A's plus cart loads of Macaroni Cheese though as you'd then be mixing both old and new plans.

Hope this helps maybe.

Thanks for listening,

Jo

I agree Jo. Slimming World does have a vested interest n the diet changing regularly, just the same as other diet clubs such as Weight Watchers.

You have a valid point with the not mixing old and new diets too as if you try and have the best of both you could end up putting weight on.

Another thing which I believe used to be free but isn't now is Corned Beef on a red day. To be honest, I can't believe it was ever free as it always seems to be so loaded in fat.

If people are happy with the old plan and they are losing, then surely this is the most important thing. I have never known a time when macaroni cheese was free and so will leave it out of my diet.
