Good morning, chicks! I am excited to report a 2 lb. loss.
Cheryl - Hope you're feeling better and that you got that furnace fixed. It's awful to be sick and cold.
Susan - Congrats on the 13 lbs. lost already. I don't think it's a sin to eat something you enjoy once in a while as long as you're not rewarding yourself with food.
Hyacinth - Sorry to hear that the rescue people didn't represent your new dog's health honestly. How wonderful that you're willing to give him a home anyway.
I'm so proud of you for sticking to the Atkins Induction for 27 days. Don't give up now. Remember those 6 pounds you lost and how it took a while before they showed up on the scale? Be patient and keep plugging away. It WILL happen!
Surf - I think it's great that you're going to work with a personal trainer. She'll not only teach you the proper way to exercise but will be there to help motivate you to do it.
Carla - Hope a lot of your soreness from exercising has gone away. Stretching helps me a lot, and the stability ball is wonderful but, yes, you sure can feel it working your core! I need that as being postmenopausal any weight gain tends to go to my midsection. Ugh!
jrnyc - How are you and your son feeling? Is he any better? Don't ya hate how stubborn men are when they're sick?
Jill - I can picture it now. You soaking up the rays on Grand Cayman looking hot in your bathing suit because of exercising regularly on your new gazelle. I'll bet you can't wait for it to show up on your doorstep.
Well, gang, I joined the infirmary of sickies this weekend. Went to bed Saturday night with a scratchy throat and stuffy sinuses. Woke up in the middle of the night feeling like I wanted to die. So far my symptoms are all in my head (literally), and yesterday I just could not get warm. Had a subnormal temp and then a slightly elevated one last night. After a good night's sleep (thanks to Nyquil, which knocks me out), I am feeling a lot better. Frida, those hot toddies you were mixing up sound good, but in the meantime, I'll stick with chicken soup and steamed veggies.
A big hello to all whose names I didn't mention and congrats to all who've made some progress toward your goals this past week. Let's have a group hug . Now go out there and have a good week. I'll be cheering you on.
Good afternoon to all and I hope you are all having a good time working on your goals.
I am trying to get back on track after an awful last week. My son went back to his place in Manhattan and will try to work a full day today.
It's soooo frustrating dealing with a very sick person that refuses to go to the doctor, but this son takes after me--I never go to the doctor either. Plus, my son had a point--he was doing everything he should do: lots of fluids and bedrest plus meds (over the counter) to try to keep the aches and fever down.
I'm not feeling 100% yet either, but I need to get back on track. I gained one pound while dealing with the flu. Anyway, I am done with illness for at least a couple of years.
This week I will stick to my diet and try to drink all my water but I don't think I will go out walking. My goal is to lose 20 pounds (or more ) for Mother's Day.
Hope everyone did great this weekend. I was kinda this weekend. Didn't exercise but ate well. Too well - I ate too much fruit. AArg - I wanted to eat more because it was so good - but my body said something else.
Anyway - back on the exercise program today.
Thanks everyone for all the input on scales.
Hey Jill - have a great time in the Grand Caymans!! How long are you staying?
Oh, I am glad that Drew Lachey won Dancing with the Stars. Stacey is wonderful - but she had 14 years of dance. Didn't seem fair to me.
Good afternoon everyone, Hope everyone is recovering from the weekend and is doing well today. I weighed in this morning and I am the same weight as last week! I wouldn't be so upset but I weighed myself during the week (that's a no-no) and had lost a pound! But, thanks to over eating at my granddaughters birthday party, Pizza and chocolate cake, and work, i gained it back!. So......here we go again. I know there will be weeks like this so i'm not beating myself up. Have to realize this is a life time thing and there will be occasional lapses and I have to just continue to eat right and work out. And I have already done my work out today!
Carla, on the 2 lib. weight loss and for starting to exercise. I know when I started I had pain in muscles where I didn't even know I had muscles! But after awhile it will be a comfortable pain, just enought to let you know you have worked out. A good feeling, actually! It's hard to make good choices when you go out to dinner, especially since a lot of us consider that a Treat! So to be able to chose a low fat mean is wonderful!
Dollidot, Your Sonoma book should be there soon, but in the mean time just eat healthy and watch portions! sounds like the perfect place to do that if you get all the fresh fruits and vegetables! Any exotic ones that you had never had before?
Jill, Your Gazell with be there tomorrow! It will probally be hard not to over do the first day but be careful! Don't get so sore you can't continue it for a few days!
Cheryl, Glad to hear that you are feeling a little better. Just continue to rest and drink plenty of fluids! Hope you got your fernace fixed! Nothing worse than being COLD and SICK! My mom's hot toddy was made with whisky. This is a little Southern Baptist lady that never touched a drop of "spirits" but she always kept a bottle of whiskey around to make toddy's. we lived way out in the country and didn't get to the Dr. often. It was made with whiskey, water. lemon juice and some kind of flavoring.
Meow, How is your new scale? Got the kinks worked out yet?
Elyn, I know I never had quite as much to lose as some of the others, but on my small frame evey pound shows up! I'm 5'1" and I want to weigh 115. I am at 120 now. I was up to 142. Doesn't sound like a lot, I know, but the less you have to lose the harder it is to take it off. And you have very few calories to play with. I do abdoninal exercise as part of my exercise routine. I use a ball and do the sit up's but also just pulling in your abdoninal muscles and holding them for 20 seconds at a time works too. and the plank! Do you know that exercise? Works well for a multitude of sins!
Marsha, A carrot for each pound!! Hope you're not coming down with what everyone else had. Fel better soon! It does help to have a buddy to keep; you on your toes! Especially one to report to daily with exercise!
Luanne, You're going to the Grand Camen!!! You're going to feel like Queen for a day!! Got room in your suit case for me?
Susan, The pretzle chicken sounds wonderful. Hope you enjoyed every bite! Remember, this is a life time thing. We have to be practicle and remember that there are going to be times we go over, we just have to get back on right away. And sounds like that is just what you did!
HY, Too bad about the way the adoption center handled the adoption. I hope everything works out well! they should be ashamed! But the dog has a wonderful, loving home and maybe he was ment to find you!
jrncy, Glad to hear that you are feeling a little better. Just don't over do for awhile. I'm glad i'm not the only one who gaines weight when they get sick! I think when I lose my taste I just keep trying to find something that will taste good!
Wow, am I ever angry. Had just been working on a great long post when my system crashed and do I need to mention everything went down with it. Oh well . . . I have to think back to when we didn't have this wonderful communication tool at all and then I don't feel so badly about it having indigestion sometimes.
Craftin . . . I was all set to congratulate you on joining Jill in the Caymans when I finally realized you were just quoting her original message . . . sometimes old-age creeps a little faster than I do. Sorry you don't get to go, too. Actually I'm sorry we all don't get to go too.
Itsforme . . . Great attitude, girl. You are so right . . . one indulgence does not mean you have failed. We all have to work out something we can live with forever . . . hopefully a very long time.
Hy . . . So sorry to hear about the new dog. Also sorry to hear the scale wasn't very nice to you at weigh-in. Your great attitude will take you the distance though. Just a passing thought . . . does the Atkins program material tell you it's OK to stay on induction for extended periods of time? I mean, your resolve is fantastic, but sometimes it can be good to mix things up a bit to keep your body guessing.
Marsha . . . Oh no, not another sickie. Here's a virtual for you. Hope you won't be down for long. At least you've got that nice 2 lb loss to help you feel a little better.
Jrnyc . . . Glad you're on the mend and your son too. Sounds like you two got a really bad dose of flu.
Surf . . . If fruit is your worst indulgence you'll never stray too far. I'm rather glad that Drew Lachey won, too. Stacey is so beautiful and so nice, she was starting to get on my nerves. She makes me want "leg implants". Maybe if I was as tall as she is, I wouldn't feel so fat.
Oh, Slim, that'll teach you to stay off the scale between weigh-ins. Don't worry, it's probably just a little temporary water-weight. I've been on and off my new scale a little too much this week too . . . because it's new, I guess. So far it's stuck at exactly the same place. Maybe it just has a single weight in it . . . do yo think. When it does start to move, I hope it goes down. It's already 2 lbs higher than the old one. I have been doing pretty good, so I'm sure it's just because of the new scale.
Well, gang, I need a cup of tea because I'm feeling hungry and it really isn't anywhere near dinner time yet. Have a great evening, all. Here's a good shot of for all of us. Keep on doing the good stuff.
Hey Freda – that hot toddy works WONDERS with a bad cold & sore throat. My recipe is hot tea, some honey (to soothe the throat), lemon juice, and a good shot of whiskey. It really seems to help you break a fever too because it can make you sweat. For all the sickies - try it. I didn't think I could because I don't like whiskey - but it makes me feel SO MUCH BETTER.
Meoww – no, unfortunately fruit is not my only indulgence. I really like wine and beer, and CHOCOLATE. But have sworn off the beer except for pizza and Mexican food. I also know how it feels when your system crashes. I try to keep mine tuned up, but today it is really slow. I even checked to see if there were some programs that I could uninstall. Hmm……
I'm reporting a measly 1 lb. loss this week, actually it is 1.6 but I can only move my tracker 1 point. I also took a peek at my scale a few days ago and had 2 lbs. loss. Oh well, I guess we all have to be patient and deal with this ups and downs.
I just had an incident with a bag of peanuts. I was watching a movie, and I almost finished the whole bag!
I need to be consistent with portion control or I'll never gonna make it to my goal.
Marsha and Elyn...Way to go on your weight loss for the week. Are you doing the fatty fat dance? You should! I hope to be joining you ladies in the dance on Wednesday.
I feel so much better today, that tomorrow I will be back to exercising with Richard and the gang. I really have my appetite back, but I don't want to give in to that feeling and gain back what I know I have loss while sick. Got to stay focus, drink water and not listen to that little voice.
Well I need to go and start dinner for my family. I'm fixing a stuffed chicken breast with broccoli and low fat cheese, baked yams and a salad.
I've been reading all the posts but haven't been participating for a little over a week. I helped my daughter move last weekend and got totally off my healthy eating plan. There were doughnuts and candy sitting around, and pizza, and other fast food, and because I was busy and hungry, I ate what was handy. It took most of last week to get back on track; I've found that it is easier for me to eat right when I'm home and can prepare more vegetables etc. I was so busy all last week helping my daughter with her baby, and cleaning her old house that I wasn't home during the day much.
I need to learn to not let a disruption in my routine throw me completely off my diet.
By the way, my daughter and family lived two doors down from me, and moved right across the street from her old house to a bigger house, so she's still within "hollering" distance. (a little southern expression) I love living so close to her and my grandchildren. I am so blessed!
Finally over the weekend I started eating right again, so this morning my weight was back where it was two Mondays ago.
Do any of you get on a certain food kick and eat the same thing for a while?
I made this kidney bean salad with onions, red, yellow, and green peppers, relish, and light salad dressing, and it was so good, I ate it all in a couple of meals, and then made some more, and finished it off for dinner tonight.
I would eat it with Morningstar farms "chicken" patties or corndogs. I really like both of those meatless wonders.
I enjoy reading about how all of you are doing, and it is encouraging to know that we are all in this together. We all have days of struggle and days of triumph. Triumph may seem like a strong word for having a good diet day, but we do triumph every time we make healthy choices, every time we resist a temptation, every time we get up and exercise whether we're thrilled about doing it or not, and every time we pick ourselves up and try again instead of giving up.
Morning! Checking in. Haven't been around alot but do read often.
Have been trying to stay on track but seemed to have added a pound or two. This might be due to "that time" and I will patiently wait to see if this fluctuates in a few days.
I'm hypothyroid and recently diagnosed w/insulin resistance.Am due for another round of bloodwork tomorrow, so it should be interesting to see if the South Beach way of eating, the exercise and the medicinal supplements have made any improvements. I know something's working physically, because what took me 18 months to lose previously, I now lost in 7 weeks. Now we'll have to see, more importantly, how all is affecting my glucose / insulin levels.
Good job all! Keep plugging away! We'll make it to goal!
Good morning everyone, I am up early and feeling good about the day! I will get my exercise in and eat right! Maybe get a tape at the library and try something new!
Luann, sorry I read the post wrong and thought you were going on vacation too! Did you read it and think I had lost my mind? I do that occasionally!
Meow, I can't believe you can fix your own computer! I am so envious! If mine crashed I would just be crying and calling some one!
Surf, I can see you're a big fan of the "HOT TODDY" too. And you're right I forgot the honey. We always used local honey because grandma said it helped prevent allergies. Smart lady, my grandma. And she would bundle us up to "sweat" out what ever we had! Sometimes she would put pepperment or horehound candy in it too. I love chocolate too and have a little bit every day. I have discovered the new "dark" chocolate and am finding it wonderful. I didn't like dark chocolate before, so maybe my taste buds are getting educated. I tried the new hershey's with nuts and cranberries. YUM!
Elyn, if you don't want that 1 lb. loss can I have it!! Girl, every loss is a loss that is gone forever! I know what you mean about portion controle. I can't sit down with a bag of anything! If I don't, I will eat the entire bag! Now I take a portion out and put in in a bowl. What I usually do is, when I bring them home from the store I put individual servings into baggies. No temptation that way. And If I make a decision to have more than 1 serving I have to get up and go get it. Gives me time to think about if I really want it!
Cheryl, Your posts always make me hungry! You always make such good meals! Glad to hear that you are feeling better and ready to exercise again.
Gail, Lucky you, to have your daughter and grand kids so close! Mine live a few miles from me, about 20 min here!close enough that I can keep Chan overnight and take him to school. I love that! It's always harder to resist temptation when you're tired and hungry and can't controle the food! And we're all in positions like that sometimes! So, just do the best you can, and if you can, make something for you in advance! I get on those food kicks all the time! Right now it's peanut butter and graham crackers before I go to bed. I think maybe my body is craving protein.
Susan, It will be interesting to hear the results of your blood work! Hope the diet has helped. It's sure helped you to lose weight faster! WOW! I know one of the reasons I continue to try to controle my weight is my health. My BP was creeping up there and the Dr. was talking BP meds! I really want to avoid those at all cost! And I know the only reason he hasn't suggested cholesterol medication is because my liver emzymes are elevated! So, if this is what it takes, this is what i'll do! Good luck, and let us know.
Haven't posted in a few days...been busy getting my Gazelle Room ready and have been absolutely AWFUL with my eating. It's the bad, Bad, BAD psycological thing for me....I see "another new beginning" with the arrival of our Gazelle, so I have been eating things I never would in anticipation of "starting again". That's the thing I MUST overcome! Thankfully, the scale shows no movement, I don't know how! Well....TODAY IS GAZELLE DAY! I checked w/ UPS and one of those cute guys in the brown uniforms will be dropping it on my doorstep! I also got some dumbells for some upper body strength training.
Cayman is coming up soon ...about 2 & a half weeks away...so I'll be hittin' it hard to lose a few more by then. CraftinMom, I wish you were going too! Cruise for you coming up tho! Actually, I wish ALL of YOU were going! Wouldn't that be fun! Freda, I'm listening to you about not over-doing it with the Gazelle at first, thanks!
For all you Losers....YAY! It was a good week for many...and those of us who have remained the same just have to change something a little, like portions or activity to get off that darn plateau! Like Gail said....we all need to learn how to not let disruptions disrupt our eating & exercising plans.
So many of us have been Sickies this winter....hope we all can be well soon. These colds & flu just throw a monkey-wrench into everything, don't they! Susan, good luck on your blood tests...I think the goal for all of us is to get healthier so we can avoid as many meds as possible. I'm convinced that most of them are poison and so the fewer the better!
I "talked" to Lisa (laffnvegas) over on the cruise forum...she's still not back in the losing mode after her cruise, but plans to start again on March 1, so we'll probably see her then.
Well.....Make It A Great Day, Friends! More later after I get my Gazelle going!
Hy . .
Meowee, yes, from what I read in my paperback 2002 ed. of Atkins, you can stay on Induction for an extended period of time. Like several months. The book says the main issue with this is that most people get BORED with the very restrictive list of allowable foods. Well, at least they are realistic - lol! BTW, I'm not at that threshold yet.
Yesterday my trainer told me that it just might be my body 'adjusting' to it's new lower weight and that was pretty common after a couple to three weeks of intial weight loss. We'll see!
I think it's a good idea tho, like you mentioned to maybe 'mix' things up - maybe add a 1/2c of blueberries once a day (Induction is NO fruits or nuts)
Don't know where my day has gone today. I was out really early this freezing cold morning, taking a friend to the hospital (just a routine test) and I thought we'd be solid blocks of ice by the time the car warmed up . . . and it was in the garage overnight.
Sorry, I really don't have the time to give everybody a personal note this evening. I'll try to do better tomorrow. In the meantime, here's a good dose of to help get us through the night.
Keep on doing the good stuff. See you tomorrow, gang.
