Took dinner to dad's house tonight. Curtis and my brother met me over there. Fried chicken, mashed taters, gravy and slaw. All fattening but very good. I picked the skin off one chicken leg and ate only the meat. Very little.
We actually got a bit of rain tonight. About 17 minutes worth. Barely made the ground wet. Better than nothing I guess.
Too tired for personals, going to kick back on the couch for a bit then hit the hay. This whole not sleeping at nite then when I do get to sleep, Curtis gets up at 4 to go to work, and being the lite sleeper that I am, I go ahead and get up with him. Ding dong dora, that's me.
Sleep well, good morning Shaddie. BTW...when Sophia smiles it is only gas, they do not smile that early.....poor DS, he has a lot to learn about raising a girl, much more stressful than a boy IMO. lol
KIND OF A QUICK POST.
UP LATE LAST NIGHT IN THE LOO.
NOT SURE WHAT HAPPENED.
I GOT A MEDICAL ALARM AFTER 6PM AND A FEW HRS LATER I WAS SICK.
GOING TO BE A VERY HOT DAY AND I AM NOT LEAVING THIS APARTMENT.

HAVE A GREAT DAY.
ELLEN....HOPE YOU FOUND MOM DOING OK.
SCARES ME JUST TO THINK OF A "BUGGY" COMPUTER
LAURA....HOPE THE MEETING WENT OK.
GOOD IDEA FOR THE CAR REPAIR.
PERFECT TIMING...I AM TRYING TO GET ONE OF THE CHAIRS TUNED UP OVER HERE
YOUR HEAT ALREADY ARRIVED....HOT, HUMID AND HORRIBLE.
CEEJAY....SAFE TRIP AND WEOLCOME HOME
HOPE YOU HAD A GREAT TIME AND YOUR HEAD IS FILLED
WITH GOOD MEMORIES
HAPPY.....LOVED THE CHICKEN DINNER.
IT WOULD BE SO NICE TO BE LIKE A PIONEER WOMAN
AND GO OUT AND PICK FRESH VEGGIES EVERY DAY.
I CAN IMAGINE THE HEAT OF THE PEPPER!!! YIKES
IT'S FUNNY BUT WHEN JEN RETIRED SHE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE INS., COMPANY.
AND EVERY TIME HER DR OR THE HOSP PUT IN A CLAIM IT WENT TO THEM & THE INS CO BLAMED HER!!!
WE FINALLY GOT IT SETTLED. GOOD LUCK
SHAD....GREAT NEWS ABOUT SOPHIA!!

ANNIE...DINNER WITH DAD SOUNDED GREAT.
LOVE FRIED CHICKEN. NOW WE NEED SOME RAIN TO BREAK THIS HEAT.
BUT IT'S ON IT'S WAY I WAS THINKING OF YOUR BROWN LAWN.
OURS IS GETTING DINGY NOW.
Day 2 of orientation went well yesterday. It was just a half-day at one of the hospital sites, and then I went to my worksite and was shown my cube and got my email and voicemail set up. I'm already scheduled for a few meetings and lunch today with my boss (what the heck am I going to talk with him about for two hours)?
It just started thundering. I hope we get some rain out of this. We had two very hot days Monday and Tuesday...today will be cooler. DH is on his way to work and said that a mile south of our house it's pouring. If only it would work it's way up here.
===================
Shad - I'm so glad to hear that Sophia is breathing better, out of ICU and even taking milk from the breast.
Happy - Bummer that your retirement service centers are not doing what they're supposed to do. I loved the garden harvest face photo! too cute!
Laura - Good idea to get the car serviced, especially when your brakes are making noise. I took the pups to the vet last Friday and checkups, blood tests and booster shots for all three was over $400, but the good news is that all their blood tests came back normal.
Ceejay - I hope you had a great time in PF!! Safe travels!
Mel - rest up and stay indoors in the A/C. That heat is nothing to mess around with.
to Ellen and Java!
I'd better sign off....gotta finish getting ready and DH said the roads are pretty slippery.
Oh, before I forget, my new company has a VERY STRICT internet policy and they do track/log everything...so no posting from work unless it's on my phone.
Michelle - Hope you get some rain. We may get some overnight...we'll see. I'm sure you'll find something to talk about with the boss at lunch. I might be getting ripped off at the vet, seeing as you paid less for 3 dogs than I did for just one, but on the other hand, we did buy over a year's worth of one med, and nearly of year of another, and had things done other than the exam and bloodwork.
Shad - Sophia walking and talking by next week, LOL. Too funny.
Mel - My meeting went fine, thanks. Hope you feel better today!!
Annie - One of the dinner options suggested by bf yesterday was popeye's chicken, which I really like, but I wasn't in the mood for anything fried.
Ellen - Hope you got the computer de-bugged. I'm soooo glad bf takes care of all that on our computers at home.
Hellos to Happy, Ceejay & Patty.

Nuttin' much to report. I skipped the movies last night. My neighbor was out when I arrived home (a rarity), so we chatted for a while in the crazy heat. Had to take a shower after sweating outside like that. Dinner was Lou Malnati's pizza.
The train lost AC and some other power with about 15 min. left of the ride this morning. Wasn't too horrible, but it became uncomfortable. Then they warned us that they'd have to manually open the train doors when we got to the station and it might take some time to do, so psychologically, that made it all the worse. And since I was already too warm getting off the train, by the time I completed my walk to the office, I was really warm. Have my tiny desktop fan running right now.

Good morning ladies,
It's a nice cool day out there. I wanted to go check out the walking paths but there are bad storms moving in and I don't think it's a good idea to be out in the trees during a bad thunderstorm and according to all the red on the radar, we'll get a doozy. I could have gone an hour ago and been back already but out here you can't trust the weather people and the most accurate forecast is a combination of the radar and sticking your head outside. : It looks like L.B. is gone. Not sure if he decided to venture out in the world or if something got him. DH said usually if a fox got him there'd be some evidence. He's about half the size of the other bunnies we've seen in the yard so he's still a young one. I did get 6 boxes cleaned out in the garage yesterday. Found my new hiking boots so I can start to break them in. Also found my everyday serving platters I've been missing. I'm sure there's more treasures yet to be found but the elusive cord to connect the controller to the telescope is still missing. DH packed that somewhere. He was just about to go out and do some yardwork but I keep hearing distant thunder. Guess I just have to force nature's hand and go out there myself
Laura - between getting the cat's teeth cleaned, shots, meds and who knows what else, the vet bills generally ran into the hundreds of dollars. More than a kid But totally worth it, I'm sure you'll agree. Yuck on getting stuck in the stuffy train car, yum on the Lou Malnati's pizza I think there's a place that ships them out but they want something like 80 bucks for a medium pizza - I'm sure alot of the cost is in the flash freeze shipping. I'd love a good pizza but that's too much even for my budget - so consider what a bargain you are getting
Michelle - glad you are enjoying the job so far. Bummer that you won't be able to post but I think that's actually a very good Internet policy for the company. Besides as more and more people get smart phones, most use that anyway to circumvent the blocking. Hope you have a good lunch. This will be a good indication of how the manager is - does he draw you into conversation? Was it a one on one or did they bring a few team members where you just sit and nod and smile and hope you don't spill anything on your shirt
Ceejay - safe travels, we await your return and tales of all the fun you had.
Mel - sorry to hear you are sick but I find that comes with the sticky weather - no real food you can pin as the culprit. Stay inside, eat cool and fresh and light. If I was to be a pioneer woman, I'd want to be one in California where I could pick the fresh vegetables all year round. I am already fretting over our short growing season here.
I have a few grape tomatoes about to turn and one tomato which is turning quickly. A couple of cucumbers growing nicely. I have tomatoes on the plants but they are small for the most part. Our weather is holding in the 80's and things grow slowly. When we hit the 90s the last 2 days, things just hit a growth spurt. We'll see how it goes. We have the capability to tent / greenhouse the garden to extend the growing season a bit so I could consider some late season radishes, lettuce and beans but the thing I want most is the tomatoes and when the sun light cuts back and the temps get cooler at night, they just don't ripen that well. Good thing I have bright inside sunny south facing windows to ripen them if I have to.
Ellen - will you give me a cut and color too? I tip well
Annie - kiss C goodbye in the morning and roll over and get a bit more sleep. You are sure running on empty. Sorry you only got a spritz of rain. Watch, the fall will be a deluge. Crazy weather. I'm sure Dad appreciated the comfort meal.
If a baby smiles when they have gas, how come we grimace when we do it? Unless we are teenage boys who think tooting is hilarious.
Ok, I need to get a move on and finish up here and then go put some stuff away. Later kids.

They have a new movie coming out August 10 with Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones as an older couple trying to recapture the spark in their marriage. Has Steve Carrel ( ) as the marriage counselor but it looks like it will be funny. Aren't too many movies I actually think would be worthwhile to see.
On another note DH took off on the ATV to go to the back and start tree trimming. Wasn't out there 10 minutes when it started sprinkling. I just knew it. I'm guessing he'll keep working as long as there's not thunder but it sounds like it's starting to rain harder.
I'm back home. Had a very good and safe and rain free drive. Followed my nose back home. Starting at Pigeon Forge, Knoxsville, Nashville, Jackson, then I had to take the Memphis routes to get myself back to Interstate 55. It's taken around 7 hours so it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Came home and an awful smell hit my nose. Still can't find it. I've checked the fridge, but opened a window to let this stinch out of here
We had a good visit but those younger ones wore me out with activities. The most exciting thing is that some of us were woke up early Monday morning by loud noises. It was a mother bear with three cubs raiding the garbage bins. To top it off they were supposed to be bear proof.. My bil made a video and has posted it to FB.
The one thing I liked was the trail ride. My horses name was Penny. She kept bumping into my nephew's horse.
My sister's kids spoiled me this week end. The cabin spoiled me. I didn't want to come home.
My back side is more than sore so I'll come back and post tomorrow.
JEN & THE KIDS ARE HOME NOW.
RICHIE DID HAVE TIME TO GO AND GET THEM. THIS IS

THEY WOULD WONDER WHEN ANYONE WORKS
GLAD THE ORIENTATIONS IS GOING WELL AND HOPE THE TALK DID TOO.
SENDING YOU GOOD VIBES.
Lunch with the boss went well yesterday. We just talked about our families, etc., all non-work related stuff. And as Happy mentioned, he did ask me good questions and drew me into the conversation. He's on vacation for the rest of this week and all of next week, but before he left yesterday, I had him sign some forms to get me the proper access to the data and applications I'll need. He had submitted forms before I started, but as with any big company, these things take time.
Today, hopefully, I'll have more access so I can get started on the projects assigned to me. Looks like I'll be learning how to do a lot that I haven't ever done...so that's very exciting!
Last night, we had two marvelous thunderstorms and each one lasted an hour or more. My doggie Mischief didn't appreciate the thunder, but the lawns and gardens are definitely happy. And I don't have to water today. The back lawn, which has a lot more shade is nearly all greened up again. The shady spots of the front lawn are green, and the rest still has a way to go yet. I hope Mother Nature keeps that lovely rain coming (in safe moderation of course).
===========================
Laura - We found the vet bills here to be a lot less than in California, and I'm sure they're less than the Chicago metro area. And we didn't get any meds. Mischief's meds cost a few hundred dollars every couple months, but she's worth it. Nice that you were able to chat with your neighbor. And I love Lou Malnati's pizza. You have my mouth watering. How does the ThunderShirt work for Coal? I'm thinking maybe we should get one for Mischief. Bummer about the training losing AC and electricity to the doors. That had to be uncomfortable. I think next week or tomorrow, I'll bring items to my cube (like my fan, a calendar, etc.).
Happy - I hope the storms you got weren't too bad, but that you got any needed rain. As for the radar being accurate...only sometimes. We often have thunderstorms pop up without warning when there's not a cloud in the sky (called "pop-up storms" down here), and just as often we see huge storm fronts move through on the radar, and then when they get about a mile away they either vanish or split and hit north and south of us. Sorry to hear the L.B. is gone. I hope he's safe and happy wherever he is. Good for you for making great progress in the garage! I really need to a :buttkick: to get my rear in gear on decluttering. Lou Malnati's does ship pizzas...and they are more expensive...but not horribly so. As for using smart phones to access the internet...during orientation, they said we should limit our phone usage...plus in my building I don't get great signal unless I stand in the ground floor lobby, which many people do on their breaks.
Ceejay - Welcome home! glad you had a great time in PF! I love horseback riding, but haven't done it in years.
Mel - So nice that Jen and Richie are back home and the kids will be heading back to Florida soon.
Michelle - Glad the lunch w/ the boss went well. Hope you enjoy the new challenges that await you! We have mixed results with the Thundershirt. It's not the easiest thing to put on doggy because the velcro can attach when you don't want it to, and I'm sure the sound of it isn't all that pleasant to him. Bf has more trouble than me with it, so yesterday before he left the house (to use up some Kohl's cash before we forgot about it!), we'd agreed he'd leave and then I'd put the shirt on Coal. So I was in another part of the house when I assumed bf was leaving, but the next thing I know, he's tried and failed to put the shirt on Coal. So when I offer a few pieces of kibble to help dress him in it, he wants nothing to do with me or the kibble. Grrrr. So Coal didn't wear the thundershirt, but he did just fine all night. I think it was because we were with him and we didn't have any tv channels tuned that have those nasty sounds they make when they're doing the storm alerts - those can be so obnoxious sounding, but I guess they do the job...
Mel - We also had storms and a LOT of power outages, and thankfully we weren't affected. No problems on the train this morning either!! Richie should be happy to have the kids and Jen with him this weekend. Is it a big do with his side of the family?
Ceejay - Glad you had a good drive home with no bad weather to deal with. Bf helped his friend locate 7 negotiate the purchase of a special car for his friend to give to his wife for their wedding anniversary (nice gift, huh?) and his friend was driving it back from a car dealership in Ohio when a hailstorm hit!! What bad timing, but luckily there was no hail damage to the car. It's now safe and sound in our garage waiting a day or two for the optimum time for the friend to present it to his wife.....Anyways, it sounds like you had a thoroughly enjoyable vacation, with adventures and spoiling and horses. Hope you found the source of the stink.
Happy - I suppose it's probably pretty exciting to be finding some "lost" items when you go through your boxes, lol. I sure hope the cord for the telescope gets found soon. Like bf's cell phone headset, it's not truly lost, but just waiting to be unpacked. Oy, that's a lot of $$ for pizza. And so it might be a good excuse to experiment with pizza making, or having your visitors pack some up and bring them to you! My mom loved egg foo yung (sp?) from a certain place in Chicago, but doesn't care for the way they do it out by her so she's tried her hand at making it herself...and we've also brought some to her on visits. Yeh, I've seen the tv ads for the Meryl Streep & Tommy Lee Jones movies - looks cute. Hope it won't be too sappy and silly. I enjoy TLJ in movies, but I've heard the media types who do celeb interviews (when they hype their movies) say that TLJ is horrible to interview - difficult and unresponsive. He obviously doesn't like that part of his job...
Shad - Hope your final days of the mine assignment are bearable and that the thought of having some time off to spend with family is helping you muddle through.
Hellos to Annie, Ellen, Patty & Java.

Other than the storms, nothing exciting to report. Bf ended up using Kohl's cash, a Kohl's gift card (purchased from credit card points program) and $12 cash to buy himself a nice clipper/trimmer for his new short hairdo. (Expect him to change his mind about the hairdo and/or DIY clipping tomorrow, next week or next month, lol.)
It's been a week since my bike crash. Good movement with my fingers, but still a wee bit swollen and a bit sore. Not bad for one week post-crash though. My left leg is still very bruised - nice and ugly with a variety of yellow, purple, black, blue. Shorts ban still in effect.
Speaking of shorts - I see all these people walking downtown, presumably to jobs (because it's early morning, too early for the tourists) and I have to wonder what kinds of jobs in offices allow them to dress this way. And then one of them - a girl in rather short cutoffs and sneakers - is on the elevator with me and going to one of our floors. Huh. Not very professional IMO.

Morning kids,
DH had an early morning doctor's appointment and he's still not back yet. Makes me wonder what's going on. He has been having issues with his heart racing at night. Also with swelling in the feet, however I have discovered that while he is on a diuretic, he is not drinking hardly any water at all which is NOT GOOD He will get the results of his blood tests and heart monitor today so I wonder if in addition to the general doctor he is also seeing the cardiologist. Guess I'm just happy I didn't get a call from him that they admitted him to the hospital.
It's a cool morning but the days are about to get warmer. I need to go to the grocery store - not feeling like it but I think it would be better to go today than on the weekend when all the extra folks will be in town stocking up. Nuttin' much else new on my side of the fence...
Laura - I think anyone who looks at Tommy Lee Jones and DOESN'T think he can be a curmudgeon is just ignoring the obvious Yes, I could imagine he digs his heels in the sand. I think the movie would be funny because probably 50 percent of the older crowd I know fits into the stereotypes in that movie and nothing is funnier than the truth My DH has one of those clippers - got tired of the barber cutting one side of his head longer than the other. I had to convince him to not cut it so short (think Travolta now). Older guys just don't look good with 1/16 of an inch long hair. Don't care if they say it's all about being easy to take care of. Suffer like us. But you never know, he may like it. Sounds like you really banged the heck out of yourself in your fall. Ouch! I say go in shorts - you'll get alot of sympathy. People are more accepting of bruises than fat Had to smile at your comment on how people are dressing to go to work. I stopped working downtown in 1998 and at that time I was flat out astounded by how people dressed for professional jobs. I am old enough to remember when they came out with the concept of casual Fridays in the office. Heck were were glad to have a day when we didn't have to wear a suit. But it just spiraled out of control after that. I always dressed nice for work. Not fancy but nice. I think it makes you look more polished and professional. I had to laugh when I had a boss who ragged on people about having a messy desk top yet she only had about 8 shirts and 4 pairs of pants. Work clothes were a tunic top and stretchy pants and most times her hair was in a pony tail because as she said "she was too lazy to comb her hair in the morning". But she considered herself dressed up because she always wore lipstick One of the other managers wore capri pants, t-shirts and casual slide shoes and made no effort to cover up the many bad tatoos she had. People have taken the "you can't tell me anything" and so what way too far. And they get away with it. Sorry ... that's just a hot button for me and reason number 17 why I'm glad I'm done with the corporate environment.
Glad to hear you guys got some rain finally. Now push some over to Annie.
Michelle - glad you had a good lunch with the boss. One of the good things about starting a new job is the ability to get enthusiastic about some new stuff. Hope that feeling stays for a long, long time. Call me a fuddy duddy but I also think it's kind of good that the cell phones don't work too well in the office. People are used to always being "plugged in" and I've seen more and more people sitting in meetings and checking their phones instead of paying attention and being courteous.
Ceejay - glad you had a good trip. I saw the bear video on FB and my heart was in my mouth. that is probably the MOST DANGEROUS situation one can be in - a mom with cubs. I was hoping the person taking the video was inside and not standing on the porch. The bears sure did make a mess and I'm sure they were back more than once.
Mel - so it sounds like Jen takes the kids to the trailer while Ritchie stays back and works? That's a pity that he doesn't get to spend much time with them. Even bigger pity that Jen is stuck. Hope they mind her. Yikes, it always makes me nervous when I hear the power goes out in NY with all those buildings with elevators Glad you were not affected. I imagine you must get some great views looking across the river at lightning over the skyline.
Ah well I think it's time to find something to eat. Hello to the rest of the chicks. Check back later...
Ceejay - so glad you enjoyed your vacation. Now back to the reality.
Happy - hope all is well with your hubby. I hope you made it to the grocery store. I try to do my shopping early on saturdays, to beat the crowd and to get a better selection of veggies.
Laura - Oh, I can relate about no a/c on the train. Wednesday afternoon the a/c was not running at full force.. I got overheated. Thank goodness your friends vehicle didn't get any hail damage. ABout a month ago some areas got hit with BIG Hail.. it's hard to find a rental car because of that.
Michelle - glad to hear the job is going well...Also glad to hear puppydogs are good.
Mel - so glad you didn't lose power. I saw the news and they stated you all had ... oh can't remember the amount, but lots of lightning strikes.
Shad - Yea Sophia is out of ICU, what great news!
Annie - praying for rain for you all. I see the news where they are already talking about higher prices for food. Here in Texas, lots of farms are selling the cattle, so beef prices will be low for now, but then up the next two years. Reason, we had a drought last year, grass died.. whatever is growing now, cows aren't eating... (I never knew they would know the difference)... anyway that's what i heard on the news..
for me busy week, had my root canal today... yeah finished with that. Looking forward to weekend.. I have got to start working out....
Happy
Bil was in their bedroom when he made the video. I wanted to see a bear while on this trip. The video was close enough for me. My sis called me out on the deck before I left and she said look the bear has been here again. Their were two garbage bins on the street below us that had been raided.
Michelle
Hope things have gone well the first week at your new job. Glad their was some one on one time before the boss left for vacation.
Mel
Hope we get some more rain. We got a shower this afternoon but not enough. Glad that Jen and the girls are back home.
This summer is flying by.
