Morning all,
Happy - like you and DH I have a hearing problem. It's getting worse and I have to complain about the background noises in TV shows. It seems that the music (no doubt meant to introduce drama) covers the words and that annoys me enough to throw my slippers at the tv from time to time. I really need to get something done about that. Can't do it naturally, but hearing aids are improving all the time. Sometimes however that music just drowns out the drivel they are saying anyway.
Rennie - glad I have your approval for the bedroom colour. I'm not normally one for neutrals, but it IS much easier to change the duvet cover rather than the wall colour every time I change the bed. Sorry to hear you have been sick and that there has been a death in the family. Get better soon.
Oh for October, well we will have to put some thought into it and we only have a couple of days.
Mel - we don't think of you being in a chair either and that causes problems when we think of visiting or going somewhere. Such is life. I think I heard (from an underwater perspective, because that was what you were sounding like) the final sounds of dulcet tones while we were on the phone. I need to take the phone to pieces to figure out if I can get a new battery for it. It does not last any length of time these days and took the entire day to charge up. I had to use the loudspeaker on the phone to take calls.
Ceejay - I think one of the hardest things about living alone is that while the food bill is not all that huge - it is not half the price of two, it's more. And the utilities don't acknowledge the fact that there is only one person in the house. One thing that I have to give our age is the fact that there is not much pension left for us who have worked the last 40 years or so. If we haven't provided for our own future and who knew when we were young that we would have to do this - I mean our folk knew they were going to get a living pension - then we have a lean time in front of us. Women in particular are disadvantaged because in our era, we still mostly stayed at home and reared the kids. Time when we could have been earning for our future. We are truly the lost generation.
Anyway, time to go dig out the dust sheets again and do some more sanding. At least the end is in sight for this part of the project, but I have no doubt that some weird phenomena will manifest in my walls somewhere along the line. So the sooner I find out about it, the better. Someone shoot the builder!!!! Oh I forgot, in this part of the house, the builder is me!
CEEJAY~ AT THE RATE THIS COUNTRY IS GOING, WE'LL ALL BE LIVING IN A COMMUNE SOON TRYING TO MAKE ENDS MEET HOPE THE JOB IS GOOD THIS WEEK!
HAPPY~ WE CAN HAVE AN OKTOBERFEST!! AND CELEBRATE ALL MONTH WITH GOOD FOOD, WATER AND EXERCISE! THE WEEKEND SOUNDED NICE AND I COULD USE A NEW FAUCET FOR THE SAME REASONS. Hi ladies,
Running behind today... What else is new?
You guys must be thinking of a different aquamarine than I am. I think it's a very limiting color. Was planning on painting the downstairs bedroom that color by the way but was going to get the accessories - curtains, etc so I can get the right shading. I think it's a tough color to match - kind of like orchid. I am always looking at real estate, specifically houses for sale. There is a tendency to paint new houses all one color inside, mostly I suspect because of the open flow from room to room. Saw one house painted in a sort of a cream color. They had painted the woodwork and cabinets white which I would have thought would have blended too much into one another but it actually looked nice. It supports a bold accent color. They used navy blue in the sunny kitchen and in the bedrooms they did pink accents in the girl's room and green in the main bedroom. It really was a color that supported a new look just with a change of accessories. I am old fashioned, going with a deep rose in one of the spare bedrooms and my mom loves her room which is half peach butterfly on ivy wallpaper on the top half and dark green on the bottom - and she DETESTS green but likes that combo.
Good luck to you Shad on picking a color - not as easy as it would sound, however I believe you are not the kind of person to fuss much over it. Pick it and go forth
To your point with the pension, things are very shaky right now thanks to the current administration. We have already lost a substantial bit of savings in the late 90's and now the pot is in jepardy again. We don't plan on there being government allocations for us, even tho we have paid our fair share into the pot for the last 30+ years. You just can't grow your money with these wild markets. Government bails out the big banks who made bad business decisions but leaves the little guys like us with empty savings to fend for ourselves. I am truly concerned about the future and people better start taking notice themselves and vote this year.
Shy - sorry for your loss, and that you are feeling ill - feel better soon!
Yes Mel, haven't you figured out that you are the defacto "dorm Mom" Sounds like you got left out in the cold today. Brrr. Hope you got a shower in before the tank got shut off.
Ceejay - yep, the weather was great for being outside, wasn't it?
I did get to the craft fair yesterday. They rerouted traffic through a residential area. I almost got lost as those controlling the traffic were not from the area and therefore could not give directions to get back to the main road. I picked up some small Christmas gifts and bought some necklaces for myself. Still looking for a birthday gift idea for my sister for Friday.
Got a dentist appointment to replace an old crown today. I really hate going to the dentist. Keep telling myself in 8 hours this will be over.
happy
The ease of the color is that you can use blues, greens, pastels and all earth tones with it. It really is a very versatile color. Colors you wouldn't really have pop to mind work. Look at a color chart. Any color that is near it really does go well with it.
Melody
To late, xrays already came in from this morning. Full blown phenomena. I feel like crap lol.
Oh dear, the news from Wall Street is not good this morning. And the bail out has been thrown out by the senate. Dire warnings around the world and my superannuation - already down by 8.40% will dive again. No retirement for this chick and I will have to keep a close eye on the banks ready to rescue my money if needed. I can understand the reluctance to bail out the banks who have made stupid decisions in the past, but if they go down, then you can just about kiss your job goodbye. We went through this bad debt thing some years back and while it takes some nasty medicine to fix it, it must be done. I hear on the news that there will be four banks in Ohio alone to go down this week if something doesn't happen soon. Do we have any Ohioans here - oh yes Rennie.
Yesterdays sanding was a bit of a disaster, I'd had problems with the bigger sanders and had to use the little (mighty) Mouse. But yesterday Ms Mouse declared it all too hard and ended up spitting sparks and burning plastic. So RIP Mouse I will now have to get myself a new mouse sander. It was never meant for the use that I gave it, so I'm really surprised it lasted as long as it did. DS2 repaired one of the other sanders last night and I am good to go again today. Hopefully, the majority of the sanding will be done today and I can paint later in the week. It will take at least a day to really round up all the sanding dust.
I understand your reluctance with the aquamarine Happy, I saw some really glorious shades yesterday but they were all too intense for what I was looking for. I did get some swatches and have put them on the wall to look at them. I went for the white end of the scale. I'm still not sure so they will sit there for the next couple of days while I look at them in all lights. I have already discarded three of the swatches. They were too dark. Cream could be looking good at this point as well. The tendency to put one colour through the entire house is a fashion thing. You put some sort of beige throughout the house and according to the Real Estate agents it makes the house easier to resell because it will fit everyones existing furnishings - makes it easier for the buyer to imagine their stuff in the house. I sincerely hope this 'trend' wears off shortly since we all need a bit of colour in our drab lives and where better than home to find it. You can't do too much about your workspace.
Mel - Yesterdays news on departure is 12th or 13th October. I will spend a couple of days in Perth with the resident planner and then move up to Dampier. As yet no concrete details such as flights and hotels. I had a word with Mick yesterday when he rang to tell me the last signature was added to the job proposal. No more delays I tell him. I wait for firm details. 10 minutes after that I get a phone call from another recruiter looking for someone to start mid October in another job in Melbourne. I rang Mick back and asked if I should consider it.
Oktoberfest sounds interesting. We will work on it. Eat, Drink and be merry??? maybe not.
Paul Newman had be sick for over 18 months. We heard here that he had set up a foundation and trust for his charity work here around 18th months ago, so he must have known then. A really goodlooking man and humane to boot. Has anyone in Hollywood had a longer marriage than his?
Happy - Excitement - going off the beaten track and getting lost! I love that when I travel. You get to see somethings you would never see on the highways. Chris often reminds me of the time I yelled at her to 'GET ME OFF THIS MOTORWAY' in south-western England and we found some delightful scenery, an old man who hasn't realised the war is over yet, a car ferry across a river to a place called Looe (and yes it is pronounced Loo) which was entirely delightful.
Rennie - rest up, get well soon. Pneumonia is not funny.
Okay - we are a quiet lot these days. Not many personals so I am off to check out the scale (not pretty) and then get ready for hopefully the last day of sanding - then it will be a case of shifting the furniture. Might wait for the DS2 to be home for that. Much easier to move a bed when it is dismantled. It will all be over this time next week!!!!

What a painful day from all accounts.
Done with the dentist for the moment. It's an upper back molar which means I spent over an hour and a half practically upside down in the chair. And my mouth does not want to open as wide as he needs it to so while he is very in tune to not hurting you, can't do anything about those bloody jaw cramps. I hate temporary crowns too - feels like he picked up a river rock and jammed it in there. I am always afraid it's going to pop right out. The area is very sore and is going to feel even worse after the novacaine wears off.
Then there's the pounding in the gut from the financial markets. Ok all you supports of no regulation - are you happy with the outcome? I am not for the government to tell me if and how many children I can have, and if 2 men, 2 women or a couple of people form a tribe, are happy together and wish to be wedded, so be it. However there are some things - generally financial in nature that DO need someone to keep an eye on them. I long ago wondered with all these fancy schmansy homes they are building bigger than ever - WHO can afford these things? Companies have been cutting jobs for the last 10 years yet people are more into "stuff" than ever before. I am a spender by nature admittedly. I didn't have much growing up and I enjoy my life now - within moderation of course. We didn't overextend ourselves on our house here - we got a bit more than we needed in case we took in Mom and also because real estate held it's value better than the volatile financial investments. Now we, the little people will suffer because the greed fueled businesses did not check things out and our quick fix society expects a quick bail out. Just makes me sick what we've come to... and it's only beginning. I'm sort of stunned to hear that it's affecting your pensions too Shad
Shad - I too love a good adventure - when DH is doing the driving because he has a better sense of direction than me. I was driving through some unsavory parts of town at one point which made me roll up the windows and look attentive. Wow - to meet a gent who didn't know the war was over - sounds so Monty Python - why didn't you tell me that story when we were relaxing with the wine bottle? What a great tale that would be.
As for long Hollywood marriages - the comedian Bob Hope who lived to 100 was married to his sweetheart Dolores for 68 years. Jessica Tandy and Hugh Crome were also a Hollywood pair married for 52 years. But as we know, those kinds of examples are few and far far off the norm. Always liked Paul Newman - seemed like a fun guy.
RIP Paul and Shad's tiny sander...
Shy - you get yourself on the couch and rest up. Pneumonia is absolutely nothing to take lightly. Seemly healthy people have been dropped by it. Let the others wait on you for a change.
I guess there's a pretty nasty flu going around already too from what I hear. Seems odd as it's not cold or rainy, would think everyone is enjoying life and not spending it being sick.

And I opted out on the gym today. My hip felt like it was getting better on Saturday - I was thinking if it kept up I could cancel my doctor's appointment this week. Then on Sunday I was back to regular stuff - lots of walking around, cleaning, laundry and such and it was really hurting yesterday. I did get up today but DH said maybe I should wait and get it checked out first. I'm worried about doing damage if I push it, particularly since the pain is getting more intense - even with swimming.
I walk around looking like Chester from the old Gunsmoke TV show. Chester Gump, yep that's me. Hop Along Chester Gump.
Annie - put yer Kleenex down woman and get back here.
You too Madcat and Carla. Well maybe you can ignore the Kleexex part. I know the fall days are winding down and you're trying to enjoy the last good days but unless you are sitting with Ruth, stop in and say howdy.
Happy
Your walking around sounds much like I did last year when there was inflamation in my hip joint. Go to the doctor young lady.
Reenie
Pnuemonia is some serious business. Take it easy.
As far as "getting older" I'm still young at heart. I can still out work any of my co workers who are younger than myself. Play hard with the neighbors children who are 5 and 3. Their mother commented that I could actually wear them down. I hate the fact that my body is actually 58 years old and some of my body parts don't function as well as they should. That's life and I'm planning on living to be 100 years old. It's not getting me down. I'm a survivor.
I'm not worrying over the stock market. If I remember correctly that happened during the last presidential election also. I am, however, going to take out a sum of money from my bank account just in case the market does crash like it did in the 30's. My job is pretty stable.
It's time to get ready to go home. Yipee. But then there's more work there, ugh.
SHAD...OK I PUT YOU ON THE CALENDAR. POOR LITTLE MOUSE SANDER. BUT IT HAD A GOOD LIFE AND WORKED WELL BEYOND IT'S CAPABILITIES. SO GOOD THINGS REALLY DO COME IN SMALL PACKAGES. MAY I SUGGEST A LOVELY SHADE OF RED???
HAPPY~ HOPE THE MOUTH FEELS BETTER TODAY. CHEW SOFTLY AND CARRY A BIG ICE BAG!! SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT THE GYM AND HIP.
CEEJAY~ THOSE KIDS ARE GREAT FOR EXERCISING AND KEEPING IN TRIM. MAYBE WE SHOULD ALL GO OUT AND RENT SOME!!
RENNIE~ REST UP KIDDO AND GET THOSE MOVIES OUT AGAIN.
WHERE SHOULD I BEGIN? WITH THE FACT THAT RICHIE'S JOB MAY NOT WEATHER OUT THIS FINANCIAL CRISIS AND BE FORCED TO CLOSE IT'S DOORS? OR WITH THE FACT THAT WACHOVIA IS THE BANK MY CHECING ACCOUNT IS IN AND THEY WENT UNDER? OR WITH THE PHONE CALLS I GOT YESTERDAY SAYING THE WHEELCHAIR HASN'T EVEN BEEN WORKED ON, MEDICAID REFUSED THE CLAIM OR THE CALL TO THE INS. DOCTOR WHO TOLD ME MUCH THE SAME THING? HE WILL RETURN ON THURSDAY TO HIS OFFICE AND I AM SUPPOSED TO DEAL WITH THE REPAIR SHOP AND GET BACK TO HIM. NEXT WEEK THE WHEELCHAIR WILL HAVE BEEN GONE 2 MONTHS. I WAS IN A RAGE WITH THE REPAIOR SHOP...DID NO ONE SEE A RED FLAG ON THIS PLAY FOR OVER 50 DAYS? WHY DIDN'T THEY TELL ME? WHY NOT SEND THE CHAIR HOME SO I CAN USE IT TILL THIS CRISIS IS OVER? WTF
I CANNOT ALLOW MYSELF TO GET AS UPSET AS YESTERDAY. IT TOOK A BIG TOLL ON THE BODY.....AND BESIDES....THIS TOO SHALL PASS.
WE ARE STILL WITHOUT HOT WATER. SOMEONE SCREWED UP. LEFT A MESSAGE FOR THEM...DID YOU REMEMBER TO PUT THE HOT WATER TANKS BACK ON????
ME THINKS I SHOULD JUST CRAWL BACK UNDER THE COVERS AND STAY THERE TILL THE WORLD HAS GOTTEN SOME SENSE BACK!!
BETTER GET SOME BREAKFAST GOING AND GET DRESSED BEFORE I ACTUALL DO HOP BACK IN BED
HAPPY TUESDAY/WEDNESDAY
I'm here and just popping in for a quickie as the Bishop said to the Actress.
Disney and I are settling back into normal life and the fall rush is on to get cleaned up before we get a dump of snow. I need a boyfriend to help me with all this! The leaves are starting to turn and it's looking gorgeous out there in the woods when it isn't raining.
Sorry I can't do personals - just no time - but I do read. I'm trying not to worry about finances - we do get spin-off from south of the border - but need to go to town Thursday to meet with my financial guru. He's a cute little Portuguese guy so it's not too painful. Disney will go to doggie daycare in preparation for a two night stay later in October.
Hang in there, Worldlies. Remember my motto: I'd rather burn out than rust out.

Good morning chicks - or those who are still pecking around here.
I guess September was a less than stellar month for us. Sometimes it's like that...
My tooth is very tender today. I can't bite on anything hard or there's a stunning pain - like being drilled without the novacaine I suspect it's due to the fact that some compounds they use now are not compatible with old type fillings and if they touch - you get that pain. I gummed some rice and gravy yesterday for dinner and followed it up with a cup of cottage cheese as I was still hungry. I will call the dentist today. Sometimes all they have to do is floss between the temporary and the offending tooth - just a . sized bit of matter touching the teeth can be the offender. I worked from home yesterday so the hip is feeling better but the pain is running down the back of my leg now. And then top it off with yesterday's financial crumble And I have far exceeded my tolerance for feeling not the best so I am grumpy and anxious today.
BUT - I am still better off than my buddy Mel here. I'm sorry you are having YET another issue with the chair repair place. Geez Louise it's always a long, drawn out drama. And I will send all good thoughts your way that nothing dreadful happens to Ritchie's job. I don't think people realize how teetering on the brink of disaster we really are. And by now not having hot water must be really getting to you. Especially since you're not in a position to go trotting to the loo with a pot if hot water to wash up. I think you need a break sister!
Ruth - glad to hear you are getting back to your routine again. Love your new avatar!
I'm running late so I have to run. Take care worldlies. Enjoy this last day of September - we didn't do much singing this month, did we?
Sorry I haven't been here in a few days. I had a nice weekend...and then yesterday was crazy busy.
Shad - I'm glad the BBQ went well. And I never forget to swear. Pale aquamarine is a lovely color! Very calming. Cream is also a very nice shade. The people we bought our house from had bright blood red walls in the bedroom, which was DEFINITELY not for me. We painted the walls a light blue and the ceiling a dark blue before we even moved in. I agree with what you wrote about complaining about age. My dad used to always say getting older is much better than the alternative! I actually feel younger now than I did 10 years ago. I have way more energy and I'm enjoying life more. I really enjoyed your soapbox about age! I totally agree! And you put it into words so well that it was really inspirational! If the Lorikeets are still dining in your yard, please take a photo. You take such lovely photos anyway! I'm sorry to hear about the demise of your Mighty Mouse. I don't know what the solution is for the financial crisis. It's so ridiculous that it's affecting your pensions toom, Shad.
Ceejay - The cooler weather has made my arthritis act up...hopefully just temporarily. Good for you for setting your boss straight on the crazy overtime.
Happy - I hope you thoroughly enjoyed the pedicure and craft show. I used to love going to craft shows. This year though, I just see things I want but don't need and can't afford. And it makes me wish I could spend more time crafting to make lovely things to sell at shows. I'm glad you're seeing the doc about your hip. I hope you get an x-ray or MRI. My gym focuses on beginner and intermediate exercisers...of all shapes and sizes, and they offer a wide variety of 1/2 hour classes after work Monday through Thursday. Their "sister" gym (where my membership is also good) offers the more advanced 1 hour classes for the skinny minnys. They don't offer any classes on Friday nights and only advanced classes are offered on the weekend. I don't have arthritis in my toes, but I haven't worn even a 1" heel in years. Strictly flats for this chickie. I usually wear nice looking black lace up (almost tennis shoe looking) shoes for work. They are so comfortable, and for me - if it ain't comfortable then why bother with it. You and DH have been together 36 years! That's so wonderful! You two are such a great couple. It was so nice meeting you both all those years ago. Sometimes I struggle to hear the TV as well. What you said about the savings is so true. With the stock market crash yesterday, I'm afraid to look at my 401(k). I hope things improve very soon. I know we're not supposed to talk politics too...but I sure hope people vote this year as well. And I hope the election goes smoothly...."no hanging chads". And judging from your comments, I share your political/social views. I'm so sorry to hear about your mouth pain. Can you use some Anbesol for the mouth pain? Also, clove oil helps with the pain...might need to get that at a health food store. Your hip pain sounds like it's affecting your sciatic nerve or piriformis muscle....yup, I know all the terms since that's where my back/hip/glute pain shows up most often. You can look online for stretches until you can GET TO SEE THE DOCTOR, young lady!
Mel - I didn't feel all that energetic this weekend or yesterday...but tonight I will get back to the gym for Kickboxing class followed by an Abs workout. I hope your weather has improved now that Kyle has left. Good for you and Jen on paying off your debts. DH and I are doing that too. Once we get in better financial shape we will have so much extra money for traveling, etc. What a pain in the about your chair repair! And still no hot water! I'm sending you lots of hugs and good thoughts that things improve for you, Jen and Ritchie.
Rennie - My sincere condolences about your loss. Sounds like you have a reputation of being a great organizer. I'm so sorry you're struggling with bronchitis. I've had asthma for years (though it's improving now) and frequently get bronchitis and pneumonia....so I know what it's like to struggle to take a breath. Rest a lot and move slowly. And if you're on antibiotics, drink pineapple juice (or eat pineapple). The bromelain in pineapple helps the antibiotics work better. It's always helped me get over bronchitis and pneumonia in record time.
Annie - I hope you're doing well.
Ruth - Still sending you big hugs.
Patty - I know you must be really busy, but I hope things are going well for you!
RUTH..THE ONLY PROBLEM WITH THAT MOTTO IS THAT I AM ALREADY BURNT OUT!!! GOOD TO SEE YOU POPPING IN FOR A QUICKIE!! SEND THE BISHOP HERE NEXT!!!
HAPPY~ I HAD A SPACE IN BETWEEN MY 2 FILLINGS AND USED SOME EMORY PAPER OFF A NAIL FILE! BUT I DON'T FECOMMEND THAT TO YOU!! NOW YOUR HIP SOUNDS MORE LIKE SCIATICA!! GET THEE TO THAT APPOINTMENT WOMAN!
MICHELLE~ THANKS FOR THE GOOD THOUGHTS AND HUGS. GLAD YOU WERE OFF HAVING A GOOD TIME!! I WISH I COULD KICKBUTT LIKE YOU...I HAVE A FEW PEOPLE IN MIND...OR WAS THAT KICK BOX??
HOPE YOU GET TO THE GYM!!
HOUSTON!!! WE HAVE LIFTOFF!!! HOT WATER TO SPARE AND I WAS ALMOST RIGHT...A SWITCH WAS NOT THROWN TO OPEN THE VALVE. BUT WE ALSO HAVE SPRUNG ANOTHER LEAK. THIS IS COMMON WHEN TURNING A HUGE HOT WATER SYSTEM OFF AND THEN BACK ON. A THOUSAND GALLONS FLOW AND ANY WEAK SPOTS WILL SHOW UP. THIS MORNING ONE DID....OR LATE LAST NIGHT. I AM STILL IN MY FLANNEL NIGHTIE AND JUST FINISHED UP DOWNSTAIRS. THE PLUMBERS ARE USED TO SEEING ME LIKE THIS. A FLANNEL GOWN AND JACKET OR SHAWL.
