Howdy chicks,
Last night I went to bed early - 10:30 so I could get up early to see the eclipse. I created a folder on my IPOD called Sleepy Time and put a bunch of fall asleep gentle music on there. I think there's almost 5 hours of music on it.

Woke up a few times to hear various songs playing and make a pit stop. Kept checking the clock. I was also restless as I was not looking forward to the root canal today. Woke up at 3:30 and the moon was shining brightly just over the tree tops. So when the alarm went off at 4:50 I pushed myself out of bed and put some clothes on top of my PJs. I wasn't sure the direction the moon was tracking so I went outside in the front first. Walked through the wet grass and scanned the horizon - no moon. I was hesitant to walk out back because it's really dark back there and scary things like possums, raccoons and the occasional tree frog or toad all hop through in the night. Not to mention stray roaming kitties. Or alien beings.

So I went upstairs and took a peek out the back. Didn't see Mr. Moon. It looked like a bright patch over the pool so I summed up my courage and took the big flashlight out there. The trees also make noises in the night and did I mention we have

out there too? I carefully walked up to the pool - no moon there. The light I saw was from the neighbor across from us - he's got a huge floodlight shining in his yard all night and some of that kleig light shines a bit through the trees into our yard. Not enought to really light things up, just cause and eery glow. So I got up early for nothing. I debated about going back to sleep but by then the most I would have gotten was 40 minutes or so - not worth it. So I:
- put on a fresh pot of coffee
- folded the blankets in the dryer
- popped another load in the washer
- emptied the dishwasher
- rinsed out a few stray dishes DH left in the sink
- cleaned off the junk mail from the counter
- picked out my clothes for today
- started to make my lunch then remembered I wouldn't be able to eat it so I unpacked everything and put it back in the refrigerator
- planned tonight's dinner
- made out a couple of greeting cards for friends and family
- shoved everything back in my laptop bag that I didn't get to work on last night as planned
No wonder I'm always late in the morning

I had time to spare and took a fresh cup of coffee to the computer to check out the digs here.

Internet services was not working. Diddled with resetting the boxes and modems and rebooting the PCs. I was able to get on DH's computer sporatically at best, mine would not connect. I wasted a half hour on that and then finally gave up as I had to go get ready for work.
I went to the dentist at lunch time. The root canal wasn't bad... that is until the novocaine wore off

I should have figured something was up when they gave me 3 Advil pain reliever tablets to take with me. I was able to work from home in the afternoon so it was easier to sit with a warm comforting compress on my sore jaw. DH mowed the lawn at 4 and wanted to eat earlier than 7 so I was not able to go into the pool after all. I stood outside with him while he grilled the porkchops and watched the crazy hummingbirds. They dart all through the yard like it's the Autobon. I swear we're going to get beaned in the forehead yet. We have 6 feeders out spread out across the yard. Every bird stakes one out from either sitting atop the shepard's hook the feeders hang on or they sit on the wire tomato cage on the patio or in the low branches of the trees. From their posts they guard "their" feeder. Anyone else comes and whoop - they go chittering after them and run them off. Sometimes two face each other, fly straight up about 10 feet into the air and then bodyslam each other like jerky drunken college boys banging chests. You can actually hear the whump of them hitting each other or the click as they use their beaks as swords. It's very entertaining especially now when they are stoking up for their winter flight to South America and there are hoards of them. As more show up, the bullies will eventually not be able to run them off and that's when there will be so many darting around you won't be able to count them. I truly enjoy the little guys.
Shad - was kind of hoping you'd get more pictures up but it didn't sound like it was very convienient for you. Maybe you should take one night and get to bed early. I'm sure it's hard to get your body in a natural rythym with the kind of work that you and Carla do. But do get some rest if your body is asking for it. Doesn't the rental place have a facilities manager who can let service people in? Of course they could be riffling through your undies to put on E-bay with Mel's Jen's stuff so you have to be careful
So Mel - you aren't talking to me?
Just kiddin'

I'm REALLY glad that you got to see that people love and respect you. I hope they are real friends who are interested in truly helping and not just people trying to put up a pretense. It's about time you got back some of what you give to others.
Ceejay - bummer on the leg press machine. Cripes, why didn't they just lay on the ground and try and push off a Volkswagon beetle or something instead of breaking your favorite machine? I like the leg press because it's the only one that doesn't make me feel like a weakling
What a marvelous bonus you walked into Holly with the neighbor's garden. Enjoy!
Ruth - I'm confused on the sunrise and the greening sky. When the sky turns green here - we run -
FAST - cuz that means TORNADO is approaching
Painter- that's wonderful news about your friend! I have to admit myself that there definitely is something to the ole bite and and write it. Such a pearl about hating it won't make it any less difficult
Madcat - we get the hint of autumn in the air too - it just doesn't happen until late October. With the leaves turning yellow and falling it does seem like fall is coming but it's just the trees stressed from the drought. I can tell the days are getting shorter. I was hoping after the hottest August on record here that I might be able to swim through September but I am not the hearty soul that Carla is. One the pool hits below 80 degrees, even with fast laps it's just too cold for me. But I know what you mean about autumn in the air. It's invigorating tho I push the thought of snow out of my head. And it's time to enjoy every precious nice weather day as they are in short supply come this time of year. I think you should go to bed early as well as Shad - of course she'll be up and about when you're getting ready to go to sleep but you can work out the logistics
Where's Carla and why isn't she posting?
Ruth - I think September snuck up on all of us. Time is really zooming by.
What's the tea flavor of the day Meadow?
Time for bed. I was hoping to get in early myself and here it is 11 already. Nighty night.
