It was me re: the ton of water. I drink 96 oz. while at work and usually 2 16oz. with dinner and taking vitamins before bed. it definitely helps a great deal, especially with fighting the hungries, etc. The only drawback is that I am in the ladies' room a lot, but the trade off is worth it. I've heard in a couple of places recently that you should shoot to drink at least half of your body weight everyday, opposed to the old 6 to 8 glasses a day.
The 32 oz. cup I use in the office has a lid w/straw and I agree with Vickie that that makes a huge difference. It's very second nature now to sip away while I'm working. The only problem is that I don't drink nearly as much on the weekend. Am working on that.
Well, not riding the scale was one reason I let it creep up this last time. I just do it first thing in the morning if I happen to think of it. And I do know that my weight can shift around a few pounds a day--more if it's that TOM. I'm 43 and on a low dose of synthroid too, by the way. And I've I also noticed more gain around the waist than I used to have. I was always one of those who just gained a little bit everywhere. I lost 35 pounds a couple of years ago and only went down one clothing size. Not this time, though, hence the pants.
I think all canned fish and seafood is Core, as long as it's not packed in oil. I'm sure sardines aren't everyone's cup of tea--but I get tired of meat and there aren't very many Core foods besides soup, tuna, and sardines that you can just toss in a desk drawer for a few weeks for emergency lunches. The only gripe I have with Core, is that it takes a lot of planning.
I've been doing well, though. I think I'm getting better at stopping when I'm satisfied and waiting a while between snacks, etc.
That's interesting information about the potato. I'm assuming that soups with mostly vegetables and a little potato are ok, but something like potato soup or chowder would have to be counted? Potatoes are the best thing about Core. On South Beach potatoes are eeeeeeevil.
Wow!!! so many posts...so little time......geez!! so much happening since I posted just last evening. I don't even remember all of what I read, but to All the new posters, WELCOME
To those of you who are doing great To those of you who are not doing great...welcome to world I am running out of answers and solutions and actually tired of hearing myself saying the same thing over and over. I am so out of control with this It's like I have given myself the green light ot eat (what nerve) I start out sooooooooo good, and then, BAM by midday I am out of control. I say this as I eat a bowl of cous cous, after having a bag of WW snacks- honey mustard squares...2 pts a bag, had 2 bags. I just can't seem to do it anymore .....but why???? Guess that is a rhetorical question!!
So once again I have screwed up my day...gee what a surprise
Well let me go inside and take a good long look again at what I am doing and regroup.....have a great evening and I will 'talk' with you all later.....
probably be three more pages added :-)
P.S. What does this mean??? I cannot figure it out???
L.J., have you tried eating protein everytime you eat something starchy? I know, for me, it really helps keep control of my appetite. I think that's why they specify having milk or yogurt with the cereal and they are probably assuming that cous cous and such will be part of a meal. If you are a nibbler and like beans, you might try edamame--they are Core and a bit more satisfying than carrot sticks and such. I like to put some seasoned salt on them.
Speaking of SUGAR ADDICTION - those that are having trouble staying on plan should have a "look see" at what they're eating! I know from experience that sugar induction brings on the need for more sugar induction...and so the evil cycle begins! Like cher mentioned try protein instead of carbs or anything w/sugar when you're hungry and I think you will see a big difference in your control.
My gf is doing Core (kinda under my direction) and she was a supreme sugar addict - and the first day on core (with little to no added sugar) she was shaking and headachey and weak - by the next day she was much better and I am encouraging her not to eat food w/added sugar. Once you stop for a few days you will be able to turn youR little nose up!
As for sardines! nothing wrong with them - how about that marinated herring? yum yum!
Vickie - I made the cornmeal corn cake thingies for supper - turned out great! I omitted the sugar, used about 1/2 can of corn w/cumin, garlic powder and a few tablespoons of chopped green chilies, fried up in healthy oil of course. Ate them with some canned Stagg chili - found a low fat vegetarian version in the store - not bad, just spicy enuf for a frouf!...leftovers for lunch tomorrow (with a side of ff sour cream to cool it off as required! ).
..and Vickie we don't need a "sugar patch" - we're sweet enuf!
Cher, you know I wasn't being critical, right?! We are ALL scale riders here. We've been joking for weeks how we can't help ourselves. I think you're right....if it were potato soup you would have to count it as your potato serving.
Another scale rider (and proud to be so) checking in! I weigh in the morning, right after work, and right before bedtime. Is that anal or WHAT???
So I was feeling a little colicky (my DH's term for having gastro rumblings) tonight and wasn't hungry at all! In fact, I was sure that if I ate, I would see it again and not in a very pleasant way. Too much info?
Lunch is all packed for tomorrow, and taking a cue from that fat-food thing that Frannie posted, I am eating jalapenos on my chili. I made some chili Sunday but nobody wanted any. It should be Core because it's just lean meat, diced tomatoes, pinto beans, garlic, onion, and um ... I think that's all. I'll heat it up, then add some FF grated cheddar and jalapenos, and maybe eat a few Wheat Thins (pts) with it. I also have a deviled egg, so like I said -- I'm all set!
i seem to be stuck on having oatmeal with applesauce at my desk every morning.......i must be taking comfort in it because of the cold....
having salad, tuna for lunch today and brought in a yogurt smoothie 0% fat, 70 calories.......not bad not bad
supper tonight will be late i have to go and get the right color put into my hair for whatever reason, it wants to grow in gray and white.........what's with that????
i am still journalling everything i eat.......i think i will go back and count up the points that i actually eat and see what that is......even though i don't have to count i am curious as to what they might be....
frouf--i have not tried that stagg chili, is it pretty good? maybe i will pick up a can this week along with some soup of some sort......although i am not a big soup person every once in a while it is ok......would rather have homemade...do you have a favorite canned?
tunney's pasture.......we have a lab there but i have not been there.....the calibrate our instruments........interesting to say the least
l.j. dont be so hard on yourself.......we all have days like that...everyone is a challenge.....an opportunity to succeed......
hey, vickie, i am making your glop tomorrow! can't wait! yummy
Just checking in, man is this board busy! I missed my weigh-in on Saturday due to the snow. Vickie thanks for the cornbread recipes. I plan on trying them this week.
Welcome to all the newbies this is a great board so much support. Have a great day everyone. Even though I don't get to post regularly I do read the board everyday. You guys are a great support system.
Hi everyone!
How do you guys drink so much water?? I think I would puke. I will try to drink more, but half my body weight, no way. Do you drink just water, or are you counting decaf coffee and diet soda in there? OH.........almost forgot had WI this morning, lost exactly 1 lb. Yippee!!! It's been a while since I lost a whole lb. in one week., now if I can just keep this up. I'm thinking maybe exercising twice a day for 20 min. each, instead of once for 30 min., anything to keep my metabolism up.
Potato soup....I make it with skim milk and count it as core.
How do I drink water? I just do it. I tell myself I have no choice! Fortunately, 4 of the 16.9 oz. bottles is a sufficient amount for me. Don't forget to use a straw and try to drink "good" water -- either bottled or filtered. The taste is so much better, and believe me it helps. I'm not a big fan of water in the winter, but I drink gallons of it in the summer because it gets so hot here.
Vickie, no, I didn't think I was being scolded . I was just musing out loud about how I'm thinking about the scale right now. I think I'm also trying to get to know my body, because it's not acting like it did when it was 20 anymore. (Big surprise, huh?)
Anyway, I didn't have much time to plan this morning and ended up having scrambled eggs and a baked potato for breafast, with ff bacon dressing. Kind of weird, but not strictly wicked.
I'll probably nip out to the grocery store and get something a bit more attractive for lunch. Chili is a possibility, although I'm a little tired of it. Dinner will most likely be a pork stirfry. I'll skip the rice, though, since I've had the potato.
Anybody have anything interesting to do with pumpkin? We have one left over from Halloween (!) that still seems fine, but I'm getting tired of looking at it, so it's going to be nuked soon.
hi cher....you will have to make vickie's famous crustless pumpkin pie......totally core......i think it is in the recipe, dessert forum. good for you for your weight loss.........whoohoo way to go
once you start drinking water, your body will automatically ask for more.......it is funny how that works. i drink my 2 coffee's in the morning, then after that and until i get home i have water, in a cup.......then once home, i have a glass while i am preparing supper, then 1 before my walk and after my walk automatically.....and i always have one beside me whether i am watching tv, painting or sewing. I average 10-12 10 ounce glasses a day. At work, we have one of those water dispensers, but at home, we have the best tasting, naturally flouride water in the world.........I truely miss it when we go to the city. Last night i had one of my 2 diet pops of the month........not a big pop drinker......
i walk an average of 30-45 minutes a day, and have added 15 minutes every other day on my elliptical machine........still have not looked at that w.w. dvd 30 minute work out yet......but i will, i promise!
