Carol, ok you made me cry! What is up with us.......we can't always be upbeat and we can't always succeed. We need to be able to cry on each other's shoulders. Please don't be ashamed. You LOST 21 pounds and only gained 4 back. Why is it that we (I've done this too!) let a 4 pound gain overshadow a 21/25 pound loss. Ok, no one wants to gain but it's ok and it's over. There is nothing you can do to change that fact. You can just start over fresh and give yourself a break. I don't think you need to kick your behind, I think you should celebrate yourself. Keep exercising and make the best choices you can from meal to meal. Don't forget to really congratulate yourself when you want crunchy and fried and DON'T eat it. That is a real accomplishment. Keep posting and maybe we can all help somehow.

Thanks, Laura! I can't wait to check the recipes out. Isn't it interesting how many of us are stress eaters? I've really been fighting to keep from eating from stress but it is very hard. I just keep telling myself that like any other addiction, once you "medicate" the problem the problem will still be there and so are more pounds! For me, staying on this program is a meal to meal decision. So far, I'm winning the battle but it is a constant struggle. I see that it is a struggle for all of us regardless of how much we have to lose.

Linda, you will make the right choice and you will make your goal. I have every bit of confidence in you. If I were you, I would try to stay away from the sugar. It sounds to me like sugar is what is messing you up. I really found that getting off of it and staying off of it is easier than trying to just eat a little bit of it using my points. Once I get started on one of my trigger foods, it is really difficult to stop. There are withdrawals but they do go away eventually. Maybe you could try it until you reach your goal and then indulge on maintenance? Just a thought.

You are right, this is an awesome group of people. I'm thankful to have this support.

Hey Guys....I forgot I had a question. A couple of months ago someone posted a website where you could plug in your own vital statistics (weight, type of exercise, and amount of exercise) and find out exactly how many calories you are burning. My treadmill tells me that I'm burning 95 calories but I would think I'd be burning more based on my weight. Is there such a website?

Vickie, I don't know if this is it or not, but it seems like a good one:

Default Thanks....

Just checking in before bedtime and catching up on all the posts - and wanted to say HOW INSPIRED I AM by all of you and your weight loss successes and challenges! It's always a long hard road, but the journey is worth it.

At my first meeting on sat the leader had us write down a "winning outcome" complete with specific goals and how they would be accomplished....and as embarrasing as it is I have TAPED it up on my bathroom mirror where it is a constant reminder of what I should be doing and why! (reminder to self to remove before cleaning lady comes tomorrow!!!). Might need to make a copy for work to keep me focussed!

I am still a bit hungry in the evenings as I go to bed, but I almost welcome it as a sign of control and regulated eating - instead of going to bed all gassy, bloated and feeling like crap!

I have also been diligently packing lunches/snacks every day and trying to keep enuf appropriate snacks around that I don't go crazy and grab whatever isn't moving! This seems to help as do the core foods which I find very filling. Obviously only time will tell!

Keep up the good work everyone - remember for a newbie like me even reading about your challenges and hardship is inspiring especially as you try to find solutions and provide support to each other!

Let me say what I forgot to say in my post yesterday.....I TOO am a BIG stress eater!!
How in the world do we combat this??? I am starting out on the right foot this morning. My CORE day is planned and MY intensions are good.
VICKIE you are right, it IS the sugar that triggers me!! One piece leads to another and so perhaps I go cold turkey with that starting today...and make that delicous FF/SF smoothie you told me about and this weekend I will pick up the SF/FF SwissMiss...
Everyone here is so very motivating and inspiring.....Well wish me luck - here I go....again!!
Have a great day out there and I will be back after work.......Linda

l.j.

youwill love the sf/ff swiss miss..... it really gives you that sweet treat......yummy!

So, is sugar an addiction.......I think so....but they say scientifically, it has not been proved.....ha, they have never seen me in the candy aisle, jube jubes, choco covered almonds, hershey bars, banana cream pies, oh stop that right now, it is only 725.......they only way i can curb my sweet intake is to not have it around. if it is here, i find it, i also try to have some of those w.w. treat bars (2 pts) handy so if i do want something i don't deny myself that.

as far as pop goes, i can take it or leave it, my favorite drink has always been water and coffee and beer......i don't have any problem getting in my water.

oh i hope the scale moves to the -25lb mark.....oh i hope i hope i hope!

well, most roads are not passable this morning, the weather has left us with ice everywhere.....could hardly make it out to the car to warm it up, can't even scrape off the ice because it is too thick right now........and the van won't start, i think i will have to stay home today......no buses are running......so what will i do......hummm the list is growing......what a day.....

The Sun will come out tomorrow, tomorrow...................ya right, what is sun? oh dear, you can tell it is january here

what a downer........

Kathy, this is EXACTLY the kind of site I was looking for. The one I saw before didn't have all the activity choices. I'm going to share it with my Niece because it even tells you how many calories you'll burn chasing your kids around. I'm ashamed to say I calculated how many calories I'd burn for 4 hours at the casino! Actually, it helped me with my treadmill walking too. I'm burning about double what my treadmills says. Maybe I'll increase the incline for a little extra burn! Thanks so much for finding this for me. I've bookmarked it now!

Froufy, I think we all need to do whatever it takes to keep us focused. My mini-goals are on my refrigerator door and on the calendar I keep. I try to keep reminders where I'll see them alot during the day. It's good that you are planning because I'm convinced that planning is CRUCIAL to success on Core because you have to have certain foods available. My slips have been when I didn't plan all my meals and snacks.

Linda, good luck with the banning of sugar. It takes a couple of days and you might get a slight headache like when a person gives up caffeine. It will be worth it though, especially if it is a real trigger food for you. Give it until your next weigh in if you can.

Frannie, you and me and Mercee all shooting for 25 pounds this week. I'd have to lose 1.8 to get there this week. One thing I'm confident of is that if I don't make it this week, I WILL make it next week. Good Luck to all of us!

Frannie, enjoy your day at home and stay safe. We have lots of fog here in Chicago and slushy streets. It is supposed to go into the deep freeze for us tomorrow.

Time for the treadmill! Gotta do my part in the -1.8 pounds department!

Good morning all! I hope you are all doing well this morning. I was so inspired by you all last night that I actually went for a walk last night. Then for further inspiration, I watched the finale of The Biggest Loser. Wow! Did anyone else see it? The guys were great losers, I love Gary, but of course, I identified with Kelly and was inspired by her honesty in her struggle and her commitment to her plan. She did a great job and I totally wish her well.

Linda, I am doing my contract to day. Trying to think of a better name for it...ummm.

Well, guys got to run. Have a great day!

Vickie, I hope you love the book and keep me posted. You said you got it at Borders, a friend in another state who just got g-bypass was looking for it last night and couldn't find it. I will direct her to Borders. Please let me know what you think, I am trying to limit myself to a chapter or so at bedtime, b/c I will read the whole thing in a day. Need to savor good books, much like I need to savor my food.

Froufie, it's great to see you here!

Vickie, could I get those cottage cheese recipes? I remember when I was little and my mom and I would eat cottage cheese and cling peaches. I liked it then, tried it w/ff cottage cheese and lite peaches and well, don't like it so much. Any suggestions on something maybe to put in the cottage cheese? Maybe pureeing the cottage cheese w/the peaches?

Question, which may be a bit dumb - is anyone only doing CORE during the week?

Well, got to run!

Frannie, another beer drinker!! That has been my greatest downfall in my weight loss journey. I finally told myself ENOUGH! Jan. 1st was my last one, and it's a daily struggle because I'm used to going home from work to have a few. Oh well, when I reach my goal, I will reward myself!!

Vickie, I'm glad you found that site useful. It looks like a really good one - I bookmarked it for later, whenever I finally start back exercising.

I have my day planned out for eating. It's over my 20 points so I know it's plenty of food. We'll see how it goes after a week or so. Meanwhile, it's mostly low-carb stuff. I have got to break the sugar addiction and allowing myself some by using my WPAs just isn't cutting it. It only makes me want more and more.

Torrey, I'll look for the others but here is the one I was thinking of last night. I've tried it with Lemon jello and extra Splenda (hubby and I are freaks and like stuff REALLY sweet!). I just tried it with peach jello and we didn't like it too much. I think the peach jello was too mild flavored. I'm going to try it with black cherry next. I also don't put the fruit on top. You just need to make sure that you puree the cottage cheese. I'm not kidding, it gets smooth and you can't even tell it's cottage cheese. It will actually cut in the pie pan. Last time I made it I just put it into little 1/2 cup containers and we ate it with a spoon like pudding. I like it because it is dessert and gets in another dairy.

Core Lemon Cheese Cake - Posted by Sara and Gert Knute

1 box sugar free lemon Jello
1 cup hot water
16 ounces FF cottage cheese
1/2 cup skim milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. salt
2 pkg. splenda or to your likeness. (I used 1/4 cup!)

Blend jello with water, then cheese, then rest of ingredients, (mix everything in food processor or with hand mixer). Pour into 9" pie pan and refrigerate. Put stewed peaches over the pie. FF Cool whip can also be added but will need to count points.

Torrey, when I was posting the cheescake recipe above on our core recipe site, I saw another dessert cottage cheese recipe. It didn't have a name, but here it is! I'll be trying this one.

16 oz. ff cottage cheese
1 1/2 cups skim milk
1 large box of sf ff chocolate pudding

Mix milk and cottage cheese then add pudding dry mix.

Torrey, I normally make this will FF ricotta cheese and hubby and I LOVE it. I'm guessing it would be great with the FF cottage cheese. It would probably be even creamier with the cottage cheese.

Carmel Apple Delight

1 package sugar-free butterscotch pudding and pie filling, 4 serving size
1/2 cup fat-free cottage cheese
1/2 cup nonfat yogurt
6 tablespoons skim milk
1 medium apple, peeled, cored and finely chopped

In a medium bowl use a hand blender to blend together first four ingredients until smooth and creamy. Gently fold in chopped apples. Cover and chill until ready to serve. Serves 2.
