Dh and I both felt rather sick after the luncheon yesterday. We are used to having a fairly small lunch so 4 courses was too much! We enjoyed them but we went home and had a long nap afterwards.

I learned two new cooking things from the lunch - it's a cooking demo where we eat the food that the chef makes - that I'm going to use in my own food prep.

Good morning. I had a dentist appointment this morning, and now I'm drinking some coffee. I'm feeling tired today.

Our coffee maker heating element broke, and so there was no coffee made when I got up. I had to boil water on the stove to pour through the basket.

First world problems.

I make my coffee every morning by boiling the kettle and with a filter and holder that you put over the cup. DH is a bit of a coffee purist and this was his system. He also grinds his coffee beans. I buy mine pre-ground. Our grocery list differentiates between my coffee and his.

Dagmar - my husband has started making his with a pour over like that, too. I'm fine with mine still coming out of the Keurig.

Trixie and I are starting a class tomorrow night so DH and I will be eating frozen pizza Thurs. night for the next 6 weeks. Simple and fast dinner and clean up.

I got an invitation from my health insurance to sign up for some wellness thing. I took them up on it but remained skeptical (thinking they'd want me to pay something). Nope, I said I wanted assistance in losing weight and they gave me two options. I chose one, downloaded an app, entered my information and on Sunday I have a 1 on 1 coaching session and I think weekly followups. No charge. Let's hope this works!

Very cool! Insurance needs to focus more on prevention and wellness, so this seems like a step in the right direction. Keep us posted.

I agree, it's very cool that your med insurance has weight loss coaches! My backup coffee is what I use when camping and backpacking -- Jetboil stove and Starbucks Via stick. Miserably hot yesterday but 15 degrees cooler today. My new struggle is to get enough sleep, of all things. I get up early to use whatever coolness there is for outside work, but I haven't been to bed before 11:30 pm. Oh well, I'll try again today.

I'm the opposite of you re sleep/wake times Alice. Natalie starts waking me around 3:30 a.m. so I rarely stay up past 9:30 p.m.. I have been an early riser since I was a kid but this is waaay too early!

I had my first coaching session yesterday. Basically it was just going over the app which was nice because she pointed out stuff that I hadn't realized was there. Then she gave me an access code to another app where you take "classes" either live or recorded for all sorts of exercise. So basically the diet is based on the ketogenic diet which I was following earlier this year. Lately I've been doing mostly IF and keeping my meals small. She praised me for the IF and said that doing both together should show me some results. I'll start Monday. Oh, and I get just two more coaching sessions for free and after that there is a charge, but I don't know what that is.

I'm volunteering today at the 50th anniversary of the club where we keep our kayaks. Should be a fun event - clear sunny weather - and I'll probably man the BBQ again. Food will not be great but I'll cut back some at home tomorrow to compensate.

Had to leave the BBQ early so I missed the desserts. I had a couple of pieces of watermelon which counted as dessert before the main food course. So good! First watermelon of this summer. The day was beautiful and warm enough for t shirt wearing.

Usually DH and I are in a hurry at the club - trying to get out on the water. There's a really nice swing seat with a great view of the bay very close to where we put in.

We're going to try to get there next weekend - long weekend - and I'm going to get the cushions for the swing out of the club house and have us sit and swing and enjoy the view for a bit after we kayak.

Sometimes we have to take a break from the
