It's really a shame that eating healthy is so expensive. If I had a green thumb, I'd be planting a garden (with a couple dozen red pepper plants!), but alas, I don't. I don't have the added challenge of feeding others on a budget while trying to stay healthy. Would any of your families be up to switch to whole wheat pasta? (I don't know that I've checked prices on that in a while, though) I really feel for those of you who are eating more processed foods in order to alleviate the pocket book. (Who really says pocket book anymore? Oh well...) Those processed foods are where those 65 extra pounds (not so many anymore!) on my body came from!!! Ugh!

I wonder why it's like that in the south. My gf back home(Tx) said milk was around this price. I got it at Sam's yesterday for 2.66 and at the grocery store here in town, it's 2.99.

OMG! You are so lucky! There's a local grocery store that sells it for $3, but it's across town so we'd spend it in gas trying to get cheaper milk, lol!

Karen, I can get my son to eat the whole wheat or grained or even the Smart pasta, but there's NO way Jess will.
Okay, I gotta go do my WATP now.
HUGS!

Dropping in for a quickie.

Hello to all the lovely ladies of the Red team! I hope you all are off to a great start to your week, I know I am certainly trying over here.

I have definitely been struggling food wise, exercise wise too now that I think about it... but I at least managed to maintain my weight this week. I went for my first walk in months last night, phew! I was breathing hard and I wasn't walking all that fast. Talk about being outta shape! Ack!

So, after being off work for a week, I FINALLY got to spend this morning doing what I'd intended at the beginning of the week, and that was to start on my Bob book. Whoa! is all I gotta say! I had bought a notebook to take notes, jot ideas, etc as I read and lemme tell ya, I began the book, wrote, read, wrote some more, and all of a sudden I had a MAJOR epiphany regarding my failures of the past. WEll, at least a very large part. It totally blew me away that I had to actually leave the store( brought my book to Borders), and have a good cry in my car! I feel as if a weights been lifted off of me, I cannot describe it. This book fits me to a T and I could not be happier that I have it. I know that I was destined to connect with this. It's my turn! I'm READY!

Ok, so now I gotta dash out the door but wanted to share my "moment" with ya'll and to say hello to my favorite girls.

Vanetta, I am SO proud of you!!! Onederland!!!! 199whatever, you're there baby!!!

BBL for personals.

Be good to you!

I read a little bit over my lunch today. I'm at the part where it talks about accepting your body as it is (in order to give yourself permission to change what you don't like and move on) and forgiving yourself for the false starts, failed diets, etc. That really struck a cord with me, too. I put it away for now. I need to be at home, I think, to really work through the process and do it correctly (didn't want to be crying at work all day )

Except that food prices have gone up up up I don't find it any more expensive to eat healthy than I found it to eat unhealthy. Make many more things from scratch and buy better cuts of meat but buy less meat since we aren't eating so much of it. Milk prices are crazy. I wait until I find it on sale for 2 for 5 dollar and get 6 gallons of it. Put it in the fridge in the garage that I keep real cold and the stuff lasts for as long as I need it to last before we go thru it. Usually 2 gallons a week of 2% and at least a gallon of 1%. I use 1% for all the cooking and pudding pies and baking. My big thing is I hit sales. We have 6 stores in what is probably a city block ( live out in the country so who knows lol ). I drive about 1/2 an hour to get to them and then take 4 or 5 hours to shop to get all the sales and the best prices. Yes, it takes time but it saves a ton of money. Once I have all the shopping done that I can't get cheaper at Giant eagle I do the rest of my shopping at giant eagle because it is 20 cents off a gallon of gas for every 50 dollars purchased there.

Karen, yeah I have been staring at this book since it came out but had yet to really dive into it. I had planned on using this week of vacation time being "alone" to really dig in but alas so much came up that it wasn't until today that I actually got to do it..go figure, I go back to work tomorrow. lol I stopped at the part where he talks about looking into a mirror and writing down what you see. Not something I could do while out obviously, but I realized today that I spent over an hour & a half just on the first section and answering that first set of questions. The baggage part is huge for me, lots to work thru there and today I had major breakthru. If you want, feel free to PM me or email me, we can chat about it.

I like the challenge and I think the badges are a cute little idea, but it does seem a bit daunting. Even for someone like me who gets possessed and has exercise OCD, lol!

I've never participated in a Red Wins, so I have no opinion on that yet. But I am willing to work on being nice to myself, trying my best to get in healthy foods (when $$ allows), getting in at least 30 minutes of exercise, getting plenty of sleep, drinking my 6 or more glasses of water, wearing sunscreen and trying some new veggies out.
Roni, the Red Wins challenge is alot of fun, you'll love it. I never even got started with the beach challenge, to me it was just too much and I don't have that kind of time to spend on exercise. If I did, I'd be at TBL ranch doing it! I feel ya on the $$ issues, and me deciding to quit my perfectly good job has me second-guessing myself too! However, I HATE my job so yeah, still glad I'm quitting now that I think about it! LOL I'm sorry Jess is being a pain in the butt. Seriously, I think all men go thru some PMS or something!!!!

I am feeling pretty OP today & yesterday but I am having way too many carbs. My issue right now is that we have less money to spend on food (thanks to rising costs of everything except DH's salary), and let's face it, most healthy foods cost more than unhealthy ones. A box of mac & cheese is 40 cents but a bell pepper is $2, KWIM? It's frustrating. I'm trying to be creative, but healthy AND cheap is proving to be a tough combination for me.
I think we are all feeling the pinch of the penny these days! I think we could really do healthy alot easier if we completely quit with the "extra"..kwim? At least in my house eating healthy costs us almost double only because my kids still want their cereal, their snacks, etc.... I wonder what they'd do if they came home one day and all I had was all fresh stuff? Probably die of shock is what? LOL And I'm sorry, you can't beat a yummy bowl of warm mac & cheese!

I LOVE Cher! LOL In fact, I had a Cher barbie doll growing up. The very top of her head swiveled-one side was long black hair, the other 'side' was long platinum blonde. I still have it somewhere! I got the chance to see her live about 6 or 7 yrs ago, she is an amazing performer. Even if you don't like her, the performance factor is worth the money I paid. Definitely gave us our monies worth!

Every once in a blue moon I can do 7 hours a week but that's about my maximum. Thanks for all of the kind words.

Karen, omg all you girls put me to shame with all the HOURS of exercise you do! You have nothing to feel badly about at all. In my book you are way ahead of the game, kutgw lady, you're awesome!

i agree that eating healthy is much more expensive than eating crap.

with a gallon of gas and a gallon of milk running neck and neck i am certainly feeling the crunch over here. i am a student and i work full time and i will say that sometimes i sacrifice other things just to be able to eat so i can live!!!

i was shopping at the walmart grocery store but im not supposed to support walmart given the line of work i'm in. (politics) they have awful compensation practices and discriminate against women... i could go on and on. but my pocketbook is feeling the difference now that i dont shop at walmart

Ah don't hit me over the head with a hula-hoop but I'm, just not a big fan of the red-wins challenge. I'm not comfortable with all the criteria to be honest. I totally think you should do one though for those who don't like the badge challenge. I like the badge one, but you guys know I exercise a lot to begin with.
