@Patty Hi and welcome

@Mizzthingaling enjoy your girls weekend, you will be able to counteract any indulgences with IF and stay on track.

I have not had a great week, think starting the week off with lots of pizza and beer did not help my state of mind! I have done a 24 hour fast, a 20 hour fast and a 16 hour fast but I have eaten a lot of chocolate and ice cream in the evenings after my meal. I had a chocolate craving and bought far too much and now it is still here in my cupboard calling my name haha! I am going to do another 20-24 hour today and hope that it counteracts it. Then start afresh next week.

Hope everyone is doing well! Happy Friday

Thanks everyone! I weighed myself this morning and I'm still at 67kg (147lbs) so its going on my ticker haha!

Sorry I'm a bit erratic with checking in at the moment, I'm in rehearsals for my final term show and everything's a bit crazy! I still read all the posts though as I love hearing how everyone's doing.

Rosey- I had that last week. All I wanted to eat are kitkats! But it IS just a craving. One day without one and I'm back to normal now. Keep to your fasts (you've got good numbers going on there!) and I'm sure you'll be fine. Sometimes I think we just need the junk!

I'm away this weekend for a girly weekend which I can guess is going to involved a lot of alcohol and unhealthy foods but I'm so not bothered. I'm going to do what I can but genuinely not too bothered. I know I'll be back on plan by Monday!

Hope everyone has a good weekend!

Hi ladies;

I hope you won't mind if I join you and pop in?

I can not say I have committed to any particular life style. I am a bit of calorie counting, a bit of SB, a bit of high protein, and now I want to be a bit if IF

Ya; I have issues

I am trying to find out what works for me.

I am 44 years old and I feel peri menopause is the and really messing me up. I can calorie count and stay OP for 20 days out of each month, BUT the last 10, before my period, I just mess up

So I decided; I will do my calorie counting, high protein and semi-SB for 20 days out of month and IF for 10. -- I think if I only give myself an eating window and a 24 fast 1 or 2 times during my peri menopausal days; I may stay on path

So I won't be hard core IF, but someone who feels she benefits from a fast and IF eating during her troubled and weak times.

I am looking forward to getting to know you all!

To my new English friends; I lived in Surrey (Esher) for 3 years. Loved it!! I am European, I was born in Finland and it was so fantastic to be close to the continental Europe and my family. -- My mom lived in Finland and my sister split her time between Zurich and Lisbon; we visited her often

Hi!

Katlylil - 3lbs is amazing!!!! Keep going.

Rosey - It's hard to stop once you start. So long as it's the exception and not the rule, you're OK, but IF cannot overcome one binge after another. Try healthy substitutions. Throw the chocolate out or give it to someone else!!!!!
Don't sabotage yourself. You're working too hard.

Sum38 - Welcome aboard, we're all in it together!

Mizz - Have a great time with the girls.

Hello...i'm not doing IF but i feel like i do a little mini-fast each day, particularly when you compare it to the traditional "eat a bunch of snacks" dieting mentality. i get up around 5:15, exercise for an hour, eat a 200 calorie breakfast (small piece of steak) at 8:00, then no more eating til 12:00. Then i eat lunch at 12:00, snack at 4:00, then dinner (my largest meal) around 8:00 p.m. (i work out again before dinner). After my small breakfast, i always feel like i'm on a fast til lunch, because i was always used to eating a large, sugary breakfast, and it's taking me a while to adjust to this. But mornings are the only time of the day that i'm hungry. I kind of like to think of as, i'm only on a "diet" in the morning, and the rest of the day i'm pretty satisfied with what i can eat. I disagree with the mentality that you shouldn't be hungry when you're dieting. I've suffered some serious hunger pangs in the mornings...but come on, i know i can survive them for the 3 hours til lunchtime. It's like once i can get through the morning, i'm cruising for the rest of the day.

It was fairly easy this time (don't know why). But I am still 144 lb. I hope it is water and will go soon.

good job sophia!

I would worry about the scale too much, so much can influence the number. Just keep on keeping on and you will get there.

I've got about 4 hours left in my fast. Not bad but considering this has been a very long day those 4 hours will probably seem A LOT longer.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I have had a great day. This will not be a diet for me, because it is the way I ate when I was young and wasn't married. It is just "natural" or "normal" for me. I've been reading a little more on-line about IF and love that I can decided if I want to do either 1 or 2 24 hr fasts a week or choose to fast a certain number of hours a day with a window of 6 to 8 hrs of eating. I am choosing to fast 16 hours with an 8 hour window of eating.

I do WW so I'll be using the WW P+ to keep things in check instead of counting calories like I see that some of you IF people do. I will usually eat around 1 pm and stop at 9 pm. However today I didn't eat until around 2 pm, but I did stop eating at 9 pm ending up with a 7 hr window today. I would really like to stop eating at 8 pm and may end up doing that most days. I'll just have to see how that goes as it depends on what is going on each day.

The great thing so far is how this has effected my fasting blood glucose. I check my fasting blood sugar a little before 1 o'clock just before I go to prepare our first meal of the day. It was 109 mg yesterday and 105 mg today. This is the first time it has been this low since I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes almost 2 years ago. Today my weight was down 2 and 1/2 lbs from what it was yesterday. So I am extremely happy with the way this is going so far.

I shared this with my 88 year old Daddy tonight. This is the way he ate when I was a growing up and I am sure it is the reason I picked up eating this way as a child. Food just wasn't something I ever thought about. I always said that I had to "learn" how to gain weight and become obese. It was natural for me. It was fun to tell him how "healthy" I've learned that this way of eating is. He said that he didn't eat breakfast until about 10:30 this morning and he doesn't eat after 7 or 8. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't go back to eating this way himself now that we know it is okay and that it is healthy. He really is a good example that this way of eating does what I read online. He is 88 and looks like he is in his 60's and is fairly healthy.

Thanks guys for being here. Didn't do individuals. I'll learn names and get to doing that soon.

[QUOTE=Italiannie;4237115]Hi Everyone! Just checking in. I'm still on my vacation in the sunny warm south. Still doing my Fast-5. Spend the days walking, beaching, reading and then we walk into town and have dinner. I have eaten more dessert and had more wine than usual, but my meals have been very reasonable. It will be interesting to see what the scale says when I get home.QUOTE]

When DH and I travel, we actually eat more like IF (you would think that would have been a clue to me) and I always came home with a weight loss. We would get up and leave hotel/motel around 7 or 8 drive for hours before we got hungry and stopped for coffee and something to eat. Then it might be 3 or so before we would eat our main meal. We both love DQ blizzards and there were days we when we could find a DQ that we would stop and get a blizzard and that would be our meal for the day. When I think of those times, I have to wonder why I didn't think that would work at home? Crazy isn't it?

Hi gang,
end of a long busy week, glad its the weekend and i'm off. sadly its raining, but it does mean i can feed my lawn- got to think of the positives.
Ive had an Ok week with IF, mostly fast 5's. I am not having any problems sticking to it, which is great and I have had few treats, within my windows. am hoping to have lost a lb this week, wont know till Monday.
I have had the urge to jump on the scales this week but I have resisted as I dont want have lost a lb one day and then be heavier the next. but it is tempting. I am feeling a bit impatient, don't know why. I guess that I want to see a difference, but I know I wont really see it for a long while yet. I tend to lose my weight quite evenly, so I cant see it. my work uniform is hanging a bit better, but nothing drastic. ho hum, must learn patience.
hope you are all having a good weekend, and glad to have read all you posts.

geoblewis-well done with controlling your blood sugars- it has a real affect on appetite too. glad you are back on board- when you say your aiming for 36 hr fast, will that be a whole day and 2 nights? I did try that early on but found i then overate big time when i broke my fast. hope it works for you.good luck

wvuchick-I have a familial high cholesterol and on meds, but i have my 6 month check up soon and am interested to see if this has made any difference. did it change the ratio of your HDL/LDL ( good and bad) cholesterol? will post how i get on, not till April though. to be fair wiehgt is prob much more of an issue anyway so we are doing the right thing.

PrincessSophia-its raining here too in surrey, but not too cold. staying the same is maintaining!! so well done.

pattygirl63- welcome to this growing group, glad to have you join us.hope it helps with your control of your blood sugars. IF does make a lot of sense- though it is not universally accepted . Im sure you will find many misunderstand what we are doing. like you I used to miss meals when I was young and it feels right. good to hear that its something your Dad has done naturally all his life.
my eating window changes by a bit, depending on what im working or where I am and i haven't had any problems doing that. the weight loss is slow but I have also maintained it without any stress. I dont count calories or points as for me this is about finding a way to lose weight without feeling deprived. I have had bad weeks, but have not gained any weight and have treated it as maintaining .
this group has really helped too, and though i dont post everyday, I often check it before i go to bed and it keeps me on track.

Italiannie- glad you have had a great break. Im guessing your back home now.It sounds like you had a lovely time, sunshine in feb- fabulous. Im a bit of one for puddings too, but with all that walking you earned it! fingers crossed for the scales.

Mizzthingaling- My Mum has started this too, I'm hoping she will post too, as she has just got her first ever laptop. she is doing well with 2 24 hr fasts. My Sister has dabbled a bit, but not sure if she is keeping it up. We are al spreading the word in our own way!

Rosey85- sorry your week has not been so good, but this is a journey not a test. I don't know why we get weeks like that, I know Ive had a couple since I started. I think now and then you have to accept that you are going to eat what your body wants, enjoy it, savor it and then move on.
It may sound strange but my Blips have actually been whats kept me going.( as well as you guys!) I have had weeks when im hungry and so Ive let myself have what my body wants, and by doing so consciously I haven't felt like Im cheating, so haven't felt guilty. then ive just drawn a line under it and started a new day. So stay with it, dont think you have failed in any way and enjoy knowing that you have learnt something about your self.
at the end of the day we have to learn to live with food, not without it. good luck and have a nice weekend- though i know its raining!

katylil- well done on you weight loss. 3lbs is fantastic. enjoy your girly weekend and we'll see you back soon. good luck with the rehearsals and end of term play.

Sum38- welcome, and glad to have you join us, even if its only for part of the month. you never know you may find you like it so much you adopt it for longer. at the end of the day its got to be what works for you.the great thing with IF is that you can choose to combine it with anything, calories, points, low card- or just eat whatever feels right. your choice.
Esher is just down the A3 for me, Surrey is a lovely place to live! Where are you living now?

surfergirl2-Hi and welcome?, maybe you could try IF with your eating window in the mornings??. totally agree with you about the hunger. its there for a reason and with IF you learn to recognize when we actually need to eat as opposed to want to eat. good luck with your plan.

PrincessSophia, well done and keep it up! the weight will come off, your doing so well. its always harder the nearer to goal you get.I seem to lose a couple of pounds then stay the same. its going down though so be happy.

anyhow, I have waffled on for long enough!!!

see you all soon.

I planned to fast again today. I've made it to 8:30 this morning and now I feel my stomach gnawing on my ribs! I really hate it when I wake up hungry!

I will try to ride this out for 30 minutes. And the kids can make their own breakfast today!

I checked what I thought was my fasting blood sugar around 1 today as usual and it was higher than I expected. In fact, it was more like I had just eaten a few hours earlier instead of just drinking a diet drink. They say some sweeteners can do this. I know Splenda does it for me. I had to get up early and take DGS to church to go to a concert in Columbia. I have a standing 9:15 beauty shop appt and no one was there that early. In my research of IF, I read that some IF people drink diet cold drinks when fasting. So I went to a convenience store and bought me a diet Mountaindew and drank it during the morning before my appt and later while running my errands. I'm not sure what sweetener is in the diet drink, I'll have to check it. However, I'm sure that is why my blood sugar was up. So I am quiet sure that I am not one of those IF people who can drink anything but water, coffee and tea during my fasting times. I realize that for me, my FBS was not fasting even though it was a diet drink it obviously effects my insulin like sugar. I also realized that because I ate much a lot of carby foods yesterday that it was too much for me. So I think I will have to eat less carby foods even during the eating window and I will also have to save all diet drinks to have during the eating window. A lesson learned and noted and so thankful to learn it now at the beginning of doing IF.
