Hello everyone!! I'm new to this site and to this diet. I understand the concept but could someone explain the schedule to me. How many days do u eat/fast? What do u eat on the eating days? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks so much for all of your help:

Just checkin' in -- sorry I have been MIA, family comes into town tomorrow for a big get-together this week so I've been preparing and so on. Still doing a version of Fast-5 -- I fast for 15-20 hours then have a meal window counting calories (as not to go overboard or binge).

I'm down 1lb this week considering I'm on the cusp of pms week -- I likely won't weigh-in next Sat, as shark week (tee hee) usually brings a discouraging water-weight gain. I know it's only water (it comes off effortlessly the following weigh-in week) but still...

Doing a 24-hour fast tomorrow because family is in town Monday so lots of temptation I'm sure.

Sorry I didn't address anyone individually, but I did want to let ya'll know I'm around! Hope everyone is well and staying the course. Don't let minor slip-ups let you lose hope. It's a journey!

Hi Everyone!

Back home again, will weigh in tomorrow. We'll see.

Mar - We are all doing different things, and some of us are combining programs. I would say that most of us are doing either Fast-5 or Eat-Stop-Eat. Some of us are also following a program called leangains.

Fast-5 has a web page and a free downloadable pamphlet. Basically you fast most of the day and eat during a 5 hour window. For me that is 4-9 or 5-10pm, but it can be whatever works for your schedule.

Eat-Stop-Eat also has a web page. His pamphlet is $35 or so to download, but I think you can get enough info without downloading it. With ESE you eat regularly 5 days a week and you fast for 24 hour periods (but you can eat every day). For instance you may have a regular eating day and finish with dinner at 6pm or so, then you wouldn't eat again until 6pm the next day. I think for weight loss you would do 2 fasts per week and maintenance you would probably do 1. Everyone is working out their own programs.

The basic things you need to realize with Intermittent Fasting are:
It is not quick weight loss - you will average 1-2lbs per week.

When you are not fasting, you should eat regularly, do not over indulge, just eat what you would normally eat, preferably healthier.

You do not have to eliminate any food groups, or count calories, although most of us find that we are cutting back on carbs and focusing on healthy choices.

It takes a few weeks to figure out what works for you.

We are not experts here - just all working it out together. Please spend a day or so online and I think you will find plenty of info to help you out.

I love IF. I find it to be very freeing.
You can also check out my blog - it explains a little of my journey.

Good luck, and Welcome aboard!

Why is there another IF group on the Support thread? Are they different?

Don't know. Saw that one and it didn't seem to have any activity since Feb and appeared to be for body builders (of course I could be wrong). I found this one and it seems to be a group for those of us doing the many different ways of IF and Eat Stop Eat to lose weight and it is more active. Hope we can keep it going whether here or somewhere else even under support groups. I had a difficult time finding out which one was active so I hope I can find it if they move it.

welcome sum38 and surfergirl and mar

mar, I follow fast 5 (unless I'm on vacation like these last 5 days) and eat during 2-7pm,,i eat "normal" food for me, what I ate before starting IF which includes mexican food and fast food and trying to include more fruits and veggies,,and I'm getting full faster.

welcome back home Italiannie, hope you had a great time. I just got back as well and I enjoyed some eating and some drinking so I'm ready for the scale

esmi134 and Italiannie - glad you are back home safely and look forward to getting to know y'all.

Italiannie - Thanks for explaining everything about the different ways to IF.

Mar - Hi and welcome. I'm new here too so I guess we will learn this together.

I am down 2 lbs this week which only makes my ticker accurate, but I am so very thankful for that.

Hi ladies...
to the newbies... I do eat stop eat, I actually found the pamphlet online for free. It really isn't much info about the diet itself, it is just about the studies that shows what it can do for you basically. ESE is pretty simple though. I typically fast from Sunday night after dinner until dinner Monday. So you are still eating once a day at least. I do the same on Weds-Thurs. All other day, I try to eat the maintenance calories for what my goal weight is.

moozie... My hdl was down and my ldl was up. So crazy, but eventually it should come down with the weight loss. At least, I hope so!

Italianne & esmi...glad you're back. Good luck on weigh in day!

geo...keep on trying! You're doing great!!

35x35, isn't IF great! You know you will need a little help for the weekend, so you can just through in a fast to try to proactively counteract the damage!

tomorrow is my official weigh in day. I was down 2.3 lbs this morning. I'm fasting today. So I'm hoping for 3 lbs to make up for what I gained on vacay!

Another thing, yesterday I went and tried on clothes. When I started this long journey in July I was wearing a 20. Yesterday I was able to get into a pair of 14s. They were tight, but they fit, I was very happy! I gave the clothes back and told the girl, I think I'll wait to buy anything until I can shop on the other side of the store (non-plus side)!

*I lost my first 25 counting calories, the last 10 or so have been from IF. For those of you wondering.

Hope everyone has some great weighns to report this week.

I am doing IF today. so I need your support. Usually, I work from home on Mondays (I am a software developer) but today I am here in my office.

I found out that it is really hard to do IF at home. Why am I always HUNGRY at home?

It is completely different when I am in office. I don't have any kind of food in my office and I can drink my tea all day.

Wow, congratulations on your weight loss.
I am still a little afraid to try on new sizes but it seems I went from 12 to size 8. I decided that I try size 6 when I will be less than 140s.

PrincessSophia, I also feel hungrier at home. Im just so used to eating what is there just because I know its there. Good job on getting down to a size 8!!

I weighed this morning, after vacation and eating like I used to before IF, and I stayed the same so I am sooo happy about that..yay!!!

Thanks Sophia and esmi.

Hope one day to get to a size 8 or 6. I'd be happy to stop there. Seem a little more attainable now.

Esmi- Its nice to go away, but I always feel like its equally nice to be back home again. (Just not the work part )

4 more or so hours of my 24 hour fast. Really looking forward to my dinner tonight. I made Moussaka for the first time. Can't wait to see what it tastes like!
