It's been a while since I've posted in here but I've still been following the thread. Congrats on the weight loss, ladies!
I haven't been as diligent with ESE because of family drama but my weight has stayed the same so that's a bright spot. I'm hoping to get back into the hang of things by the end of the month.
Sum38 --- Good luck on your fast today. The more fasts you get under your belt the easier it gets.
Sapphiregirl - sorry to hear about the family drama. Hope you can get back in to the swing of things soon. Thats great that you haven't gained anything, that's half the battle!
Dalliance - Way to go on the loss. Keep up the good work.
patty - I've never heard of step fast step, what is that?
Thanks for the congrats on the loss ladies.
I'm glad it's Wednesday, it's already been a long work week!! Have a great day everyone!!
Quick flyby a busy day which is really good since I'm shooting to fast for 18 or 19 hrs. I did the 5 hr eating window yesterday. I think I might be able to only make it to 18 and 1/2 hrs o nlybecause I won't start to cook the meat until noon. I'm starving, but have almost an hour to make 18 1/2.
Sounds like everyone is doing great on their journey- trial and error! To be sure.
Thank you for the support about working out/fasting/hunger. I just decided to wing it and it has worked better. Sometimes I don't eat till 12 pm and sometimes I try not to eat after 3pm but have eaten during the day, etc. (sometime I do cave in the evenings though, but it will only be something small in that case) I have been doing some different things which seems to have helped my motivation and even my metabolism.
I usually work out in the evenings (for those that asked) and so I eat before heavy work outs. My work out time was never a problem since I didn't work out in the mornings. I have added some more lean protein to my diet- seems to have helped.
I am so happy that most of you have done great on vacay with this plan! I am excited to be going on a long vacay myself and would love to loosely use this plan in order to avoid the usual 5 lb or so gain and bloat. Luckily (as many of you have mentioned), this way of eating comes naturally and especially when on vacation, most people tend to eat more in the evening while out. therefore, it will probably be easy to avoid bkfast and just drink black coffee, take a walk, swim, etc and eat in the afternoon. This suits my DH as well which is great. I will let everyone know how it goes.
I agree with many of you that this was a more natural way of eating when I was a teen/early 20s. It was similar to how I ate as well.
About the diabetes/blood sugar questions- I don't really know, but I guess it is really individual and very much trial and error.
Thanks for the support and I hope everyone has a great week. Keep up the great work.

Sorry, I meant Eat Stop Eat. My error.
Oh darn, was all excited that there was another variation.
Looking at your stats, I think we have a lot in common
same height, close current weight, and I'd say similar end goals. I was also at the same start weight as you for a long time, then I switched jobs and am much less active and I gained 15 lbs in 4 month!
199 is a mini goal for me. What is your ultimate goal? I'm hoping for about 140, so I won't be considered overweight anymore.
I lasted for 19 hours. I guess it is a good start. I was not overly hungry, tho, which was surprising. I had a snack of cheese, cucumber and 1/4 avocado around 3:30 and I will eat pork tenderloin with roasted veggies and boiled baby potatoes for dinner around 6 pm. -- Then I am done until tomorrow morning and I will follow my normal plan. ~ maybe I will fast again on Sunday.
Edited; I said guacamole instead of avocado...'cause I want chips and salsa
I moved from a grazing plan to IF about a week ago. (I was a BFL devotee for a LONG time.) I've read ESE and Fast 5, and I've been most closely following ESE, though I'm finding on my "regular" days, I'm just not hungry until noon or so. What a change from my old plan: 7 a.m. protein shake and toast, 10 a.m. yogurt, 12:30 lunch, 2:30 snack, 4:30 pre-gym snack, 7:30 dinner, 9:30 snack. It's no earthly wonder I felt so drained all the time.
Since last week, I've had three full fasts ranging from 17-19 hours. Haven't weighed yet, but my clothes are fitting well. As far as workouts, I've done both cardio and weights (to failure), and I'm finding strength and focus.
I just broke today's fast with a cup of 2% Greek yogurt with a package of 100 kcal cocoa almonds mixed in. Gym fuel!
I only have about 10 pounds of winter weight to lose, and my 1200 calorie/day over six meals just wasn't cutting it. Plus, I felt really weak at the gym. It's crazy to me that I feel MORE energized with fasting than with small meals. I just have to say that I'm still in disbelief, but I'm following this plan where it goes.
Welcome PallasAthena. It is amazing how much better you feel when fasting. Seems crazy to people who have never tried it. Make sure you let us know your weigh in results when you have them.
Welcome Back Saphhire - I've had a rough week or two, also. But IF is soooo forgiving!
Sum38 - You're definitely on track. Keep going.
Kelleyb - I think that even if you're not perfect on your vacation, that you will still find that IF will keep you on track and be much easier than other programs.
Dalliance - 6lbs! WOW!
Hi everyone else, too. You're all such regulars now, I feel I can address you as a group. I get a little stressed out knowing I've missed people, but I know you all probably feel the same way, and I hope you understand.
This is a great place to hear how others are faring with their IF successes, challenges and customization of their plans.
IF works! It gets easier and it does simplify life. It's all good.
Hope to hear more from everyone.
Have a good evening!
today was gonna try a 24 fast and at work, 19 hr mark, my hubby brought me food..ate 1/2 and was conscious about it ,,so if I can stick w a 5 hr window then that would be great..
is anyone doing ww w if? I have the books but haven't used them much and not in a financial position to enroll completely..
if you are doing ww I would like to hear about it..thanx
Hi everyone! Newbie here. I've been doing a lot of research about IF lately, and I think that ESE is the best "forever" method for me.
I did my first 24-hr fast yesterday, and I made it through okay! I drank lots of green tea throughout the day, and when it came time for dinner (I did it from 6:30 - 6:30), I had a LOT of veggies and protein, and had a pear for dessert! I felt pretty great actually.
Today is a bit different however... I went out with friends for lunch, and definitely ate way too much. But I know one of the best things about ESE is that I don't have to calorie count, so I'm not going to stress myself over how much I overindulged and just focus on eating healthily the rest of this week!
I got busy and actually ended up fasting 18 hrs and 45 minutes by the time I ate. I would have pushed for the 19 but had appts and needed to eat, feed DH and DGS before we left. And I think if I drink more tea and water, it might be even easier to make the 19. I plan to push for the full 19 hr fast tomorrow and hopefully most days. I think I can do that better and easier than 1 or 2 24 hr fasts a week.
Italiannie - Thanks so much for encouraging all of us who are rather new to this. I for one really needed to hear and surely do appreciate your statement that "IF works and it gets easier and does simplify life". That is so good to hear.
Dalliance - CONGRATS on the 6lbs.
wvuchick - Thanks for the chuckle. We do love new ways of whatever we are doing don't we. LOL I noticed we are at about the same place on you journey. I'm not sure what my ultimate goal is, 9 years ago I got down to about 170 lbs, but I would love to see at least 150 and then decide if I'm going to shoot to go lower or not.
Sorry if I missed any one. WELCOME to all the newbies that have come in either when I did or after. It really helps to be on a thread where we are all here to support each other so hope we can keep our little group going.
Good evening.

I did not realize this was such an active thread. I've been IFing for over two years now following a 16/8 plan with occasional 24 hour fasts thrown in.
I've read a lot of the research on this topic and while it is definately great as a weight loss/maintinence tool the health benefits are potentially quite remarkable.
