I'm not wearing any socks at all! I bought some that were supposed to be really thin but they were still too thick and made my shoes feel too short, like my toes were crammed up against the front. The only thing that I think would be thin enough would be something about as heavy as a pair of tights or really thin dress socks. But that would look stupid! I need something, though, because I fear that 20 minutes of running is going to cause serious chafing.
Can't wait to read your report on how the 20 minutes goes.
Wow! I just finished week 3! Yahoo! Now I am considering rewarding myself with a visit to a running store to get fitted for real running shoes. I have been using walking shoes so far and think that maybe I should take the leap to new shoes before I go too much further in the program.
Windchime, congrats on the 8 minute runs! Longer is easier. I don't know about the 20 minute run. I'll admit it, I'm scared. I'll check back in after we do it tonight or tomorrow morning. What kind of socks are you wearing? My moisture wicking socks are really thin, so thin that maybe that's why my shoes felt too big.
Losermom, don't be scared of the 20 minute run. It's ALL mental. If you can do the two 8 minuters, you can do the 20 minute. Keep it slow and steady and it'll be over before you know it! Just don't stop until time is up. That's all there is to it.
Windchime and losermom - are you both in week 5 right now? I'm sending you both the best of luck for your 20 minutes run!
I really like my shoes, but even with perfectly fitted shoes I did get small blisters on the heels of my feet. I have never not ended up with blisters from new shoes - my feet are completely hopeless. The shoes fit really well size wise and they correct my over-pronation. They made me do the whole treadmill test in the store, to find the right type of shoes for me - it was actually a little fun. Because I wanted to use the Nike iPod Sport kit, an important criteria was that I got Nike shoes.
I'm doing W1D3 tomorrow morning, dark phoenix - are you going through the early weeks of the program faster?
We did it! It's not easy, but definitely doable. And I'm still walking today. When we were at about minute 18, DH asked, "Is the machine (ipod) still on?" LOL

LOL! I'm still a little nervous; tonight is my 20 minute run. Did you reach a point where it became easier, or was it a struggle all the way through? I'm really worried about keeping my mind occupied the whole time. I wish that I had a true iPod and not my little Sansa player, because I've heard that there is an iPod app that lets you use the podcast with your own music.
Oh heck, I'm probably just being a baby. I can do anything for 20 minutes, right? Wish me luck. I will report back in tonight.
Everyone else--way to go! We're all doing so well!
Windchime, you can do it--I know you can! I'm a big baby and I was able to do it. Minutes 4-18 were fine, the beginning and end were rough. My butt and hamstrings are kinda sore today.
I purposely was playing music during this run, when I normally don't, and I found it to be rather distracting because I normally focus on my breathing. It's over and next week looks easier with shorter intervals before we hit the longer intervals again in week 7(?).
I remember being really scared of the 20 min when I was doing c25k. It seemed like such a huge jump, but I managed and so can you! It's amazing how your body can do things you never thought it could. I have a crazy idea in my head I might try for a full marathon in a couple years. Not so long ago I would have thought that delusional, but I decided if I can run 13.1 miles I must be able to do 26.2 with proper training. We shall see. Sky's the limit, keep it up!
Thanks for the encouragement--I need to head out soon for my run. It's still 86 degrees here--bleah! I was hoping that it would be a little cooler. Maybe if I wait till 8:30 to go to the track, it'll be a little better.
Wish me luck! And shananigans--I am impressed that you are planning to do a marathon! I get scared just thinking about a 10k!
It didn't! We had terrible thunder and lightening here, but I finally decided to just risk it and go up there...it's only 20 minutes, right? So I got all geared up and drove (wimp) to the track and they're apparently doing high school graduation there tonight, because last night it was all set up with bleachers, chairs (on the track), streamers, etc. So I came home and was going to walk, but then it started to rain. Not just a gentle spring rain, but a DELUGE of Biblical proportions! So I didn't get to go. Tonight I can't do it (again, graduation) so I guess I'll walk tonight and try to do the run tomorrow.
I wish I had the courage to do the running on the street. I guess I still could do that, but I feel like I'm still pretty slow so I don't know about that.
Yeah, I am not courageous enough to run on the street either...I am a treadmill in the basement kind of girl
I just did W4D1...and no cheats! I can't even believe I am doing this! To reward myself for finishing week three and for passing the 30 pound loss mark, I bought myself a pair of running shoes. (I had been using walking shoes before). So far so good. It felt a little different but maybe even provided a good distraction to the run LOL
Anyway, I am so proud of myself for doing it today. I almost put it off for tomorrow as I didn't get very much sleep last night (I am a doula and was at a birth til 4am) but I had a nap with my toddler this afternoon and then ran before supper. I am getting nervous about week five but trying to keep my attention on the run I am doing and nothing more.
I want to get some real running shoes, too. Mine feel really good but as I mentioned, I think I bought them too small because I can't even wear socks with them. I probably need to run over to Seattle on Sunday; I can't do it next weekend because I'm on call and have to stick close to home.
I don't know when I'm going to do W5D3...probably tomorrow night, but that'll be 3 days rest from my last run. I hope I can do it!
