  • I just went to apps and searched for c25k. This is the one I bought. C25K, v1.3, Seller: Aleksandar Stankovic (4+) $2.99 There are some free ones also I think, but I didn't feel like looking to find them and 2.99 isn't that much plus I can play my own music.

Ok, so I was going to wait until next week but decided what the heck and I just finished day 1 week 1! It was awesome!
  • Good job, Mel! We are all doing so well!

Yes, this is the one I have too. I have also used some of the free podcasts (there are several) but I thinkj I prefer to use the app and my own music. I did W5D2 today with my own music rather than a podcast and it seemed better (despite the 8 minute runs!)

I am nervous about the next run but determined to give it my best shot and not beat myself up if I can't do the whole 20 minutes.

melwolfe So glad you are joining us!
  • Me too! I really want to learn to run! When we did the 5k my daughter wanted to run and I just didn't have the endurance to do it the whole time, so I want to be able to do this by the time we do another one (no idea when that'll be).

Oh and congrats! I can't imagine running for even 8 mins at this point by the end yesterday I just had to make myself run.
  • I just got back from my longest run ever. I did 3.68 miles total in 48:20. My longest stretch running was 10:20 (.92 miles). I was also watching my 5k time and it is now under 40 mins. I am SO VERY excited. Not to mention the scale dropped a little more this morning.
  • Wow, zinkermom--I want to be you when I grow up! I'm impressed at how far/fast you can run.

Having said that....check out the ticker, girls. I finally did W6 D2 tonight! I think it might be time to leave the track and find a better place to run. The track was crowded tonight; first with a bunch of ladies, including one with a Yorkie on a retractable leash that kept wandering out in front of me, and then with two moms who brought their little girls ON BICYCLES to stroll around the track while the little girls wove in and out in front of me. At one point I made a rather rude motion (no, not THAT one) to let the moms know that their little girls should get out of my way. They screamed at their kids, who ignored them and kept weaving. Grrrrrr. There is a sign that has the symbols for No Bikes, No Dogs, No Rollerblades.

So maybe it's time for me to run where the big girls run, on the streets!

I would go as crazy on a track as I do on my treadmill. I'm already sick of my dirt road. I've logged 50+ miles on it and I NEED to get off it and find somewhere new. I think I'm gonna go check out the other direction of the highway. I'll need to find something to use for mileage markers but that is the least of my problems.

That scale dropped into the 220's this morning. First time I recall seeing those numbers since 1993'ish.
  • I hate running the same road over and over - I'm always looking for somewhere different to run - it makes the time go by more quickly.

I'm having a heck of a time thinking of where to go. I just don't feel brave enough to be going up and down the main drag because I have this fear of people laughing at how slow I'm going. I don't know why I think they would think that, because I don't judge how fast people who run past my house are going. I don't want a bunch of huge hills. I have mentally mapped out a route that might work and I'll measure it off with the car tonight.
  • Have you found www.mapmyrun.com yet? It's great for working out routes.
  • I completed W5D3!! I can't believe it!

I went in thinking that I would be happy enough if I got to 10 minutes then had to walk for a few before running until the end...or run 10 minutes then walk two then run 10 or...

Whatever, I gave myself lots of "outs" so I didn't psyche myself out and started running. Then the 10 minute mark came and I wasn't dying so I decided to go for 12.

Then 12 minutes came and I still was doing okay so I decided to just keep going until I couldn't anymore.

Then it was getting even harder but then I had less than 5 minutes left so I just kept going (still breathing!!).

Then suddenly there was only 2 minutes left and it seemed crazy to quit then when I was already so close! So I did it!

I can't believe it! My 30 minutes only got me 1.82 miles so I am really slow compared to what the Cool Running website says I should be doing but at least I kept running. Wow!

Amazing the way our minds work isn't it? So much of this program, and exercise and dieting in general is mindset...this mornings run was a great affirmation for me. I am actually looking forward to Week 6!
  • Momof5k - Congrats! I remember that very feeling. So much of it is mental, folks!

    Woot! We believed.

    You chicks rock
  • momof5k!!!!! WOOOOOOT!!!! WTG!!!!!! it's an amazing feeling to complete the 20 minutes isn't it!!

windchime, as mentally hard as the hurdle is, just get out there and run where the big girls run! one of the reasons I want to go in the earrrrrrrly am is because no one can see the "fat girl running". But lately, I just have said to myself "nobody CARES but you, so GET OVER IT AND DO IT" when I have to go in the evenings. And you know what, I'm so busy focusing on my run I don't see nor care if people are pointing and laughing. And I even went into the supermarket after our run tonight.

On that note, W6D1 today!!! wanted to do it this morning but felt like I was run over by a truck when the alarm went off and had a bad feeling that it wouldn't be real successful feeling that way, so I chose to re-set the alarm for 45 min later. During the day I decided to "just do it" when I got home and voila! it's done! Boy, I tell you, 5 minutes running is a real piece of cake once you've done the 20 minutes!!

Thanks for all of the support and encouragment here chicks! I know this thread started off by Windchime asking for advise, but it's turned into such a great thread and I look forward to ALL of us succeeding and becoming and remaining RUNNERS. That's what we ARE!!
