I would love to do a 5K in 5 weeks but that means I would have to start C25K in week 5. I already jog a fair bit so this seems doable. I think I will just start week 5 runs and see how it goes. Has anyone else tried this?
I'm also really intimidated by a "race." Does this freak out anyone else? Like I will be the slowest person I'm sure.
Well, I'm not sure about starting out on Week 5, but if you're already jogging you might be just fine. I'm entering a 5K and I haven't run that far in years, I just finished week 5 this morning and the 5K I'm entering takes place the day I'm scheduled to end the C25K. I figure if I enter the 'fun walk' that it's be okay if I'm running slow. I'm mainly doing it so I can say I've done it.
So I did Week 5, Day 1 this morning and it went well. Next run scheduled for Tuesday. I find it so much more motivating to have a goal, so this is a great way to get me to get moving.
Well, it happened to me tonight. I didn't mean for it to happen and it wasn't something that I planned, but it just kind of happened. I can't say I'm sorry, either. It just happened.....
I think I became a runner tonight. The weather has cooled off considerably and my asthma hasn't bothered me at all, but even so I took a couple of puffs on the inhaler before I set out to "walk". I must have planned to jog a little because I put on my killer bra and my neato Nike top. I alternated jogging and walking and as I was approaching home, it happened. My last song was over ("Gasolene" by Audioslave), I was just around the corner from home....and I wanted to keep running. I felt like I could go on for another mile. I should have tried, I guess, but instead I turned the corner, walked, chatted with the neighbor, and came on home. But for about 10 minutes after I got here, I could feel the energy and the blood coursing through my veins. I think it was a runner's high!
I got in the car and re-traced my route, taking note of where I'm pretty sure I started and stopped running. I ran 2 of the 3.5 miles of my route. I'm so happy and pleased! I thought that the asthma would put an end to this but I feel HIGH after running. HIGH. I think I can do this!
I just finished W5D2 and it went well. In fact it seemed easier than Day 1 -- I think because I did Day 1 on Sun after running on Sat, but now took Monday as a day off. I plan to do run again on Thurs or Fri.
Windchime~ Oh your post just made me smile!! Congrats! I'm so glad to hear your asthma isn't causing you problems and that you got to experience a runner's high!! WTG!!
Jayjay~ WTG on W5D2!!
Did W6D1 today, I almost wish it had been another 20 min run like W5D3--it felt weird to start and stop this time. But, I did the intervals just like Robert told me to--he hasn't steered me wrong yet so I'll just be a good girl and not veer off program.
I've got my first 5K registration form sitting in the mailbox right now! I'm super excited and nervous all at the same time.
You chicks are very inspiring with your 5k races. I wonder if I should register for one. How do you locate races in your area? I live in a really rural area and there are races; I just usually find out about them after the fact!
I have only ran one time since my race on Aug. 8th. That was just a few days after it. My kids started kindergarten this morning and I have plans to pick up running again. I'm trying to decide if I want to go out once and see how long I can go and pick up C25K in the closest week, if I just want to start over from scratch, or if I just want to go out and do my own thing like I did this spring. I'll probably decide after I lace my shoes up.
I am having a real mental block about running. I was doing super well I thought and was on target training for the 8 mile race I had planned for Sept 12. I decided that I couldn't afford to run that race due to financial reasons and my running mojo went right out the window. I think I need to find another race to train for in the spring/early summer to keep me going over the winter. I'm thinking at least a 10k, possibly a HM. I need a goal.
Windchime~ I found out about it when I bought my running shoes The salesman asked what kind of running I was doing, I told him I was staring the C25K and he did the math and went and got a pamphlet and said, 'There's a 5K going on right about the time you'll be finishing, you should check it out!', so...I did.
I'm betting Googling for one in your area would work too or maybe contact your community center or parks and recreation?
hey chicks!!! sorry I've been away a bit and hello to anyone I haven't met yet!!
haven't run at all for about 4 weeks started by just being CRAZY busy the last 2 weeks before my holidays and then I had 2 weeks of holiday. The good news is I was still quite active on my bike up until last week when we were in Turkey for the week, where I spent lots of time in the pool.
I've gained a wee bit of weight, around 3 lbs from being on vacation but I'm totally ok with it. I had my birthday in there as well, and there was some celebrating (food, cocktails ). I'm completely on track again now since Monday.
Running starts again Saturday. I signed up for a "start to run" program here in town - same concept as C25K only in a shorter time frame (6 weeks/ Saturdays plus weekly "homework" ) and I'm looking forward to doing it again.
I have to say that this summer was the first time in a LONG time that I felt OK about my body and I really owe that to the way I felt and the transformation from learning to run!!
Velveteen, I was getting ready to send out a search party for you, girl! I have been wondering where you were. Sounds like you had a great holiday--welcome back!
I did a brave thing. I posted a notice on my company's intranet classifieds, asking for running buddies! I'm normally pretty shy when it comes to meeting new people so hopefully this works out.
