Finished Week 2 today! A couple days late, but better late than never! It was even drizzling and only in the low 50's but off I went. Ready for week three on Saturday - BRING IT ON!
I actually enjoy running in the rain - it is cooling! Not when it's blowing a gale and lashing down though - that isn't pleasant. But a little light rain is nice actually.
After taking a week off due to being extremely busy with work, I went out for a run last night. I was surprised that I was able to find my groove and keep going fairly easily, until I got back to my neighborhood which was SWARMING with teeny flying gnat-like bugs. I was going to tough it out until they started flying into my eyes. The last straw was when I swallowed a couple. I came home after that.
It's getting dark earlier and earlier here. It won't be too much longer when it will be too dark to run both before AND after work. Booo!!!!!
Windchime, I've been wondering how it was going with you. I'm sorry about your too busy week and the gnats, but I'm glad the running was easier than you expected.
I did W3D2 today, sorta. Here's why I say sorta: I did my 5 minute warm up then my first 90 seconds, my first three minutes, and my second 90 seconds with respective after walks just fine. Then it was time for my second 3 minutes. I was doing just fine (going at my normal turtle pace (3.4mph), but doing great) until it told me my 3 minutes were up and I didn't want to stop, so I did 5 minutes instead. Then I walked a few minutes and then did 90 seconds at 5.9mph. A couple more minutes walk and I did 6mph for 30 seconds. I felt like a rockstar! I still can't believe I ran 5 minutes straight or that I ran at 6mph for any length of time (which btw, for me, burns about 13 calories/minute). I am feeling a running addiction coming on already.

I finished W9D3 by running in a cross country 5K today! I have no idea what my time was, but I finished after what seemed like an eternity LOL! It was pretty brutal with 45 degree weather, rain, wind and lots of hills but it was so great to run across that finish line! ... and I even got a gold medal for placing first in my age group, but of course I was the only one in my age group running LOL!
Amy -- I'm with you -- I hate running in the rain. No more outdoors runs for me until spring unless we have an Indian Summer and it gets above 60
Windchime -- congrats on getting back into the swing of things. gnats yuck!
jayjay - that is an awesome way to finish up. I wish there was going to be a race close enough to home at the time I'll be finishing. I will have to wait for months, but at least I can work on my speed during that time. LOL at being the only one. It doesn't matter how fast you did it, you did it! Way to go!!!!
jayjay - way to go! I'm looking forward to being able to run a 5K! It's been 8 years since I lived in NC for a winter so I'm hoping they are as mild as I remember - if it stays at 50 or warmer, I'm good for an outdoor run. I lived in northern Indiana for the past 8 years and there was no way I could have ran from November to at least April... and by April I would have fallen completely off the wagon.
fitgirlygirl - awesome work on your run!
I finished W3D1 yesterday - I didn't even look to see what the intervals were before heading out - just used my podcast to tell me when to walk/run - I didn't want to psych myself out and I did quite well - threw in another 90 sec run at the end to get me to the park exit then walked back home.
Thanks FitGirlyGirl and ShrinkingAmy! I pushed to do this race since it's pretty much the last 5K race until spring.
FitGirlyGirl -- yes good plan to finish C25K and then focus on speed. When you get to a race you will really be ready to go! I'm going to try and up my speed now too.
ShrinkingAmy -- congrats on kicking off week 3 with a great start!
I just did week 4, day 2 More importantly it was run #2 with my new shoes.
On the plus side, my knees didn't bother me (like in my old shoes), but I started to have shin-splinty like feelings. I'm not sure if it's the shoes or if it's just the increased running.
I'm a high-arched over-pronator so I got the Brooks Glycerin 6 (last year's model, so half price!). ...and they're red, which makes me happy.
Just finished W4D1 - Wowzer! I wasn't sure if I was going to make it or not! When the podcast cheered and said "And Your Done!" I was soooooooo relieved, and quite proud of myself I might add. That last five minute run felt like an eternity, but I did it - so I know I can do it two more times this week to get me to Week 5.
I am up to 9KM as of yesterday - I still can not run continuously, I *have* to take breaks and just walk fast and start up again, usually around the halfway mark, sometimes a bit before. But I'm doing it. And I *never* in a million years thought I would be doing it.
This week I'm going out two more times before Friday (I get my foot operated on then), to try and hit the 10KM mark. I would like to be there before I'm out of commission for two weeks. After that I'll have two more weeks to re-train for the 10K that I signed up for in Amsterdam WOOT! I'm scared but excited!!
I haven't run for about a week. I am starting to have asthma symptoms again and I hate that feeling of having a big tight rock in my chest. I'm back to doing all the inhaler stuff so hopefully I can run a little today. We just set the clocks back this morning here in the US so now it'll be getting dark before I get off work. I think it's time to join the gym so I can run on the treadmill.
