Finished W1!!! On to W2 on Thrusday! Great advice on the water, FitGirlyGirl. I can't drink a lot of water before/during workouts/runs because then it sloshes around in my stomach and makes me ill! I try to drink lots of water throughout the day so that I'm not parched during my workouts. I do drink tons in the hour after my workouts though.
So I just started C25K. I did W1D1 yesterday. I plan to alternate my run days with the 30 day shred. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone progress! I'd be interested in how fast everyone run/walks. I was doing 3.5 walking and 4.5 running at first, but I slowed them each down to about 3.2/4.2.
Beaka - I trail run so I really have no clue how fast I walk/run! All I know is that I feel great afterward and that I'm working towards running 5K and that's all that's important to me at this point. Once I can actually run 5K, I'll work on speed! Good luck and congrats for completing W1D1 - starting is often the hardest part!
W2D1 - check! I was running real slow tonight though. I never got over 3.5, but that's ok - I'm blaming TOM and I still managed to do it even if I did it slow. It's all good. Hubby has been on the treadmill beside mine these last 3 times and tonight he actually ran a bit. I'm glad to see it.
W2D1 completed. I was using a podcast and accidentally hit "forward" 2/3 into the intervals and had to guestimate the last two and a half interval sets but I think I was pretty close on the timing. There was another guy in the park doing interval training, too. Other walkers/runners probably thought we were nuts, he would jog past me then stop to walk, then I'd run past him and stop to walk, this went on through the whole thing!
I just finished W2D3 and I'm so excited about the program I wanted to join in the discussion. I have always wanted to be a runner and have started numerous times only get get shin splints, knee pain, etc etc. So this time I am going to try to do it the smart way and go nice and easy.
The one thing I'm bummed about is at my current speed, even running 30 minutes straight is definitely not going to get me to 5K.
Transformer - 5K in 30 minute would be 10minute miles. Let's not set the bar too high starting out! As we become better runners, our speed will certainly increase!
Amy: That happened to me once at the track in the gym. There was a guy who I'm pretty sure was doing C25K as well. We kept running by each other like that. There were people looking at us like "What the heck are they doing?" He kept grinning at me, he seemed to find the whole thing hilarious.
Transformer: (great name, btw) You don't need to work on being able to run 5K in 30 minutes right now. Work on being able to run either 5k or for 30 minutes. Most of us find it easier to work on being able to run for the amount of time we're supposed to for that week. After you get to where you can run 30 minutes then you can work on running further during that 30 minutes each week. Or once you can run 5k no matter how long it takes you then you can work on cutting down the time. You will get there, not to worry, but trying to get to 5k in 30 minutes in just 9 weeks is too much for almost anyone. Pushing too hard, too fast will just end up causing injuries and setbacks and you will probably get there sooner if you just go at a steady pace to begin with. Slow and steady, baby, slow and steady.
Thanks Amy and FitGirlyGirl for the feedback. I really wish at the end of 9 weeks I could run a 5k, after all, that is what it's called, and I'd be super proud of myself. BUT I think you girls are right.
Running for time is way easier for me to keep track of. I downloaded an iphone app that alerts me at the walk/run times and I love that! (I love having lots of little mini goals and alerts.) Trying to figure that out in mileage would be too complicated.
Thanks for keeping me on course. Whenever I've tried in the past I've ended up hurt, so obviously "my" way is not working and I need to try something new.
Transformer -- I agree that to do 3 miles in 30 minutes is unrealistic for most people. I find it easier to focus on mileage, but if time works for you than stick to that. Plus you don't have to stop after nine weeks you can build up your distance after that.
W9D1 done! Wow running 3 miles, I'm really excited. It takes me 45 minutes but I'm not ready to increase speed yet.
I have found the middle weeks of C25K to be the hardest, so hang in there everyone. Weeks 7, 8, 9 which sound horrible are really not that bad since you have built up endurance.
I am so stuck right now at W6D2. I have such a mental block on that second mile. I am giving myself this week and then I am doing 1.5 straight. I have no problem doing this on the treadmill but on land I think that its just a mental block. I think the break is screwing me up
I did W3D1 today. I would like to say thank you to all the chicks who had done this before me and posted to this thread about it. I really was scared of week 3 and I considered doing week 2 again instead of moving on. As I was thinking about it I remembered all the chicks who had said they were scared or didn't think they could do it, but then they surprised themselves and did it and it wasn't so bad. Not only did I finish W3D1, I ran an extra 90 second segment. Wow! I am actually shocked and I am thinking I might be able to run 30 minutes eventually. I might even be able to actually run a 5K.

Way to go FitGirlyGirl and Jayjay! DanaLou, don't let your mind tell you what your body can (or can not) do - let your body do the talking! You cand do it!
As for me, I should have done W2D3 yesterday but I had an interview today so I litterally spent all my free time yesterday preparing for it... then today it rained ALL DAY! YUCKO! I have GOT to get back out there ASAP! Hopefully it won't rain tomorrow - at least not all day again!
