lentilbean, I am only doing a 500 mile challenge so we are all different levels you can do it!
Well I did three miles last night on the treadmill and then some cycling. I still feel like I am not exercising at my full potential but this is my first week back and don't want to over do it. Next we I will kick it up a notch.
You yaktrax girls are hardcore and I'm a little jealous (and a little worried about your mental health ). I'm in the wuss category and will be treadmilling it up this evening as it'll feel like it's about 20degrees with the windchill by the time I go this evening.
I am beyond jealous. I can't wait for consistent 30-40 deg days. This is the point in winter when spring/summer seem like figments of my imagination, it seems so endless. Part of what keeps me going is that I can't let the weather beat me, it is snowing again today and looks to be another yaktrax day.
I second that! Amen sister! I LOVE when the weather hits 30 degrees in the mornings and I don't have a 25mph headwind to run into! This morning was windy but not too bad. I was excessively tired though and only managed to squeak out 3 miles. That's unheard of for me. DH has the flu and I woke with a sore throat so I wonder if I'm coming down with something.
My YakTraks are still not in yet (back order...grrrr!) but when they come in I can't wait to try them on.
I got spooked on my run this morning. Just some background on where I run. I live on a 1 road development. It's a big circle that's 1.5 miles around one time. Everything else in my township is horse farms and country roads. So I stick to my 1.5 mile loop. There are NO streetlights so I run with a headlamp at 5:30 am. Well, this morning it was just DARK. I dont' mean normal dark but REALLY dark for some reason. It seemed like my headlamp wasn't making a dent in the dark. Oh and it started to snow a bit. Then, I see these 2 glowing eyes down low on the road. When they are up higher i know its either deer or a bear (yes...seriously!) but these were low to the ground. So I clapped my hands becuase I couldn't see what it was except for the eyes. The darn thing didn't move. As I got up closer I could see it was a cat and the cat just STARED at me and didn't move. It was very creepy. I felt like I he was going to attack me, and I love cats! So I think that's another reason I ended my run at 3 miles today instead of 5.
Man, Jackie, you are racking up serious mileage in the snow! I might have missed you mentioning this already, but are you training for a marathon? Or are you just a mega cool runner girl?
I'm actually training for a half in May and toying around with the idea of a fall marathon. I'm trying to get to and maintain 40 mpw b/c I have been injured in the past not in the last 9 months thank goodness but I'm worried that if I don't start out ahead I won't reach my goal should an injury occur or my motivation will run out. I haven't been the most consistent runner in the past and so this challenge is huge for me.
Also, I'm hoping if I rack up the miles I'll have legs like yours.
RunnerKim: I know isn't it amazing how much easier it is to run at that temp. When its colder, windy, and especially if it start to snow or sleet and its hitting me right in the face it becomes harder to bear. I've never been a cold weather person If I didn't run the only time I would spend outside is walking to and from my car in the winter time. Its just that I can't make myself do the TM right now.
wow! 1000 miles this year... i don't know if i could do it. at this point i'm lucky to get 1.5 miles on a treadmill. sad!
Girl, you and me both. My total mileage so far? A whopping 7.7 miles But I'm shooting for 1000. Think how great you would feel! Frankly I have no idea how I'm going to do it, since I'm supposed to be averaging about 19 miles a week. I'm just living in hope that as I get in shape, I'll be able to make up the difference. Heck, even if I only make 500 miles, that's about 498 more than I did last year
One thing that's nice is that even though there are some hard core runners in here, everyone is very supportive. So just jump in with both feet!

I second that! I HATE the cold weather and all I am thinking when I'm running is that half the state is still asleep and when they're downing their 1,000 calorie latte in the morning I will feel good knowing I sucked it up and went out for a run. Plus, truth be told that I do love seeing the looks of utter horror when I say to someone at 8:30 am that I "did 5 miles outside this morning" ha!

You have done 7.7 miles more than the person who chose to sit on the couch and watch TV did! Plus once those numbers start going up into the double digits you will get very motivated from seeing it. Don't compare yourself against the elite...compare yourself against the alternative. You're doing GREAT!
Today I decided to do running in gym today. Mixed with the 3 miles I walked today around school *loving her pedometer*, I have a grand total of 3.5 miles today

Yea, what she said. I hate the cold, and we had an ice storm here so everything is slippery. It's warm on the treadmill and I got to watch McDreamy.
