Cool

Howdy. Rosey, I hope you had a good time at the father's day get together and didn't overdue the goodies. There is some stress where I won't eat but mostly I eat during prolonged low grade stress and boredom. I'm still looking for my motivation to get back on the wagon and stay there.

Hello everyone,

I have been so busy lately again. I can't wait to move back home this summer. We leave Yellowknife on July 15 and will get home on the 21. We will be staying in Edmonton for 5 days.

Default Hi All

I don't think that I have been back to this site in a very long time. Only visited and lurked afew times before. I was diagnosed diabetic 3-31-04. Diet and exercise controlled so far. Lost 50 pounds and started walking almost daily. Pretty good for a DEVOUT couch potato. Have been stalled with my weight loss since october. Have been going up and down 3-7 pounds. I need to get back in the groove. I have more weight to lose. I am trying really hard. I had stopped writing all my food down..but now back to doing it. I really helps me to stay focused. I am only walking about 30 min 5-6 days a week now. I was walking one hour but I think I burnt myself out. I am blessed not to have too many complications so far. Only the first stage of eye trouble. I am 54 year old widow with a wonderful almost 17 year old son. I have been fighting the weight loss battle since I was in 4th grade. Up and down 100 pounds at least 4 times in my life. This is the longest time that I have gone without gaining all that I lost back. YEA! You all seem to be very supportive and helpfull I hope that I can add something of use to this forum too. Looking forward to getting to know all of you. Cindi

Smile Hi Melissa

You know I think that it has been fear for me. I am afraid of diabetes. It is a horrible disease. There is actually not anything that I can't eat on my meal plan. It's just counting carbs, proteins and fats. I am not perfect I do eat more than I need sometimes and somethings that aren't the best choices. But these days I realize that I am NEVER going to be perfect. In the old days I would figure that I screwed up anyway I might just as well eat myself into oblivion. And it usually started a big binge. Not anymore. I just try to choose wisely most of the time. If I don't make a wise choice this time there are 100 more choices to be made in the day that I can do better on. My diabetic educator told me that if I can follow the plan 80% of the time I could relax for 20% of the time. One meal at a time, one step at a time and one day at a time. Fear is a GREAT motivator. Thanks for the welcome...Cindi

Cool

Cindi - welcome. You've done a great job in losing weight. You could probably teach us a few things. Are you taking meds? I take a lot of meds and that keeps my sugar down but I could do better with eating and exercise. Still trying to drum up motivation. I'm scared too. Diabetes is hard because it's chronic and we always have to be vigilant.
Melissa - great work with your blood sugar. Keep it up.
Rosey - glad all the stress has fled. Have a happy day.

Default Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!

I don't know how much I can teach anyone but we are all trying to tame the tiger and doing the best we can. No rosettastone I don't take meds. Just diet and exercise and so far it works! But I have been so busy patting myself on the back for losing the 50 pounds that I am completely ignoring the 70 I still have to lose. Lots of years of abusing food. Alcoholic father who had a bakery of all things. I have pure sugar in my veins. We are all just doing the best we can and helping where we can. I am a work in progress I guess and will be till the day I say good-bye. Thank you guys Cindi

Hello,

Terror is my biggest motivator, I have had two great grandparents die from what seemed to be complications of diabetes. We are not completely sure about one because she died before ever being tested. The other definitely had it. I was diagnosed at 23 and am only beginning to comprehend the serverity of the disease. I know that if I got more exercise I would be doing a lot better. I am really gonna start trying to exercise more often once we finish our big cross country move.

I am a waitress and at work on average 9 hours a day six days a week when school isn't in session. Some days I just don't have time to eat until after work. Because of this, during the day even though my blood sugar is mostly normal, I will have very high levels of ketones. I've found nibbling on bread or something helps, but yet again sometimes this just isn't possible. My doctor says that it is fine, that it is no different from when it happens when i run. She says that as long as my blood sugar is okay, and i spill ketones its okay. But I'm worried about the high levels everyday. Do any of you ladies have any insight?

*random happy note* My cholestrol dropped from almost 290 at my appointment in february, to 85! *EEEP* I'm on a smaller dose of lipitor then i have been on since i was like 15! ^_^
