Hi everyone, I hope at least some of you remember me. It's been a couple of weeks since I've last posted, and things have been tough. I ended up getting bronchitis right before my trip to Vegas, and I was sick the whole time. After that, I got a strange infection, found out I had to have my tonsils & adnoids removed, and have had daily migraines for the past 3 weeks (sometimes lasting several days without relief). I've been seeing lots of doctors to figure it all out, but it sure has put a kink in my routine. I've been eating well, when I can bring myself to eat at all, but I haven't been able to exercise since before my trip. My surgery is scheduled for 3/17, I'll be out of work for 3 weeks, and won't be able to work out for about a month.
It's not all bad news . . . I've lost 11 LBs since 1/11, and 12 total inches. But I have goals that I've afraid I won't be able to attain with all of these delays. I don't know how to keep myself from giving up, or getting discouraged. Also, it's very frustrating to feel so icky all of the time. I'm sorry to sound so whiny, but . . .
I'm glad everyone else seems to be doing pretty well!
But I have goals that I've afraid I won't be able to attain with all of these delays. I don't know how to keep myself from giving up, or getting discouraged.
Well, it is nice to have weight loss goals-but we also all must deal with life. There are situations in life that we CAN deal with-such as staying away from the birthday cake at a gathering, or getting home late and deciding to do a quick 20 minute workout rather than falling over on the couch-and then there are other happenings that we can't control. Your surgery falls into that category. Having surgery is something that you must do for your health and you must rest while you go through this and recuperate. There is no reason to feel guilty about not being able to exercise right now and meet your goals.
Remember that this is something you cannot control. This is a situation that is actually only going to set you back a couple of weeks-not forever. We are on a journey to lifelong health and fitness-and we are not in a race. Just take care of yourself right now.
We had dress rehearsal for this weekend's shows last night-I got into bed late and I am really tired. I have so much to get done today! Sewing, grocery store, exercise, cleaning my costume, cutting Jason's hair tonight...too much going on.
I bought some uncle beens whole wheat brown rice in a bag (Pre cooked) and you microwave for 90 seconds or boil it in the bag. It was great. I love rice and this was not bad at all! I had a 1/2 cup. The bag say 1 ser is half of the pouch and that is almost a full cup and is 190 cals and 2.5g. I ate it with some veggies and chicken so I cut it to 1/2 c. OP this week and feeling good. We are having some chilly weather but looks like it will be getting into the 50 and 60 through Friday and Saturday. I am going to get a new hair cut on Saturday and I think that wil make me feel even better. Something fresh for spring. Have a good weekend everyone!
Lori~ We all have a hard time at dinner, even more when you have picky kids and a DH at home.......It hard to get them to eat what you want to eat and it's hard to make two meals everynight! Then to not pick at the good stuff while your cooking your meal is even harder. The odds are against us!! What I do is on Friday I plan out the weeks meals. I try to squeeze in 2 or 3 good meals that we all like that is on the healty side so we all can eat it. Than I have 1-2 meals for them, and I cook some extra stuff on the side. Like if I make them steak and mac and cheese. I will have a palm size piece of it and cook it with spray and then replace the mac and cheese with two fresh veggie choices and a salad. Last night I baked chicken and mac and cheese and corn. I replaced the mac and cheese with the brown rice and added some brocolli with the corn and we all ate. One night a week, like on Thursdays we all eat something quick, I usually will keep some lunch-a-ables for Taylor and I have a WW dinner or a Lean C. dinner that night. It makes the week easier to manage.
Jen, I rememebr you So sorry to hear that you havent been well. Thats to bad that you felt icky for your trip! I have to agree with everything that Aphil said to you, your health is the most important thing and sometimes things happen. You said you was eating well(when you could eat) and thats a good thing! At least your not going for the fattening things while you cant excersise, at least with eating well it shoudlnt be that bad! I hope everything gets better for you soon. Hang in there
I have been doing good on this new excersise plan I put myself on. I have been eating better and less but more often, and I figured out WHY(duh) that my legs hurt so bad when I did the elliptical before, it was because I wasnt stretching enough!! So now I take about 10 minutes and do some good leg stretches and I have been able to do 20 minutes on that without any pain now, I love it!!! Oh and I picked up some brown rice and some wheat pasta, Aphil, is it wheat or should I have gotten whole grain? I thought of that last night when I got home from the grocery store, good time to start thinking about that, huh?, but I figured I would ask and if I need the whole grain I will just return the whole wheat and get the other tonight. It was funny when I got home and showed the whole wheat pasta to my fiance he kinda skrunched his nose at it and I just LOL and said, yup you all are going to start eating better, it wont kill none of you I promise He agreed and said he would try it! I cant ask for more than that! Now to get him to like/eat fish more
Hope you all have a great day, only 1 more day to the workweek left, yippie!!!
Lori
When you are looking for pasta or bread...the key word you are looking for is WHOLE. White bread and pasta are also made from wheat or grains...but you want WHOLE wheat or WHOLE grain.
In simplified terms-it means that the grains are not processed so much that they lose nutritional value and fiber. When grain products are overprocessed-you not only lose fiber adn nutritional value-but they digest too quickly leaving you wanting to eat again much sooner.
Whole grains take longer for the body to process because they aren't overprocessed. This leaves you feeling fuller longer.
I hope you are all having a good day. It's beautiful here in Kansas today...supposed to be in the 60's. I have been doing really good getting back on track this week. I have been following both my exercise and eating plans. My problem is the hubby. LOL. He wants to lose weight, but when it really boils down to it...he doesnt. He gets grumpy that we aren't eating fast food or junk this week and he tries to tempt me by saying "Doesn't pizza sound better than chicken and salad?" Which is pretty turd-like of him. Oh well. I just keep going! It is making me start to wonder...does he really want me to lose?? Hmmm... Maybe he feels threatened if I lose? Just a thought. I just thought I'd stop in and say hello!
Hi may I join in here? My name is Chrissy I am 39 years old married to the love of my life and we have 3 children, 2 girls 13 (almost 14) and 2, also a 9 year old son and I WAY over weight, I have to say I don't follow atkins well, the limitation on carbs is just a tad hard for me especially wih 3 kids and all the other kids that come in and out, having snacks for them etc. I love love love Richard Simmons and his tapes, I do 2 tapes right now every other day. I'm waiting for 3 more to come with the food mover, should be here in about a week.
I know the best diet for me is portion control as well as cutting my calories down to about 1500 per day, I drink a gallon of water a day also. My first goal is to be 190 and then my long term goal is 168 pounds.
I hope to get to know yall and hope that this is the right place for me to be.
Hi Chrissy welcome! Everyone here is super nice and I'm sure you'll really like it. I am new here too, but they welcomed me right away! I, too, realized that after doing lots of other programs that for me watching my portions and keeping track of calories works good for me. Everyone's different, though. I have a very good friend that counts carbs and has for 2 years and does wonderful with it. It just doesn't work for me. I have some Richard Simmons tapes and enjoy doing them when I can't jog. Anyhow, welcome again...glad to see another "newbie" here!
Hi Chrissy! LOVE the Captain Feathersword avatar! Richard Simmons Food Mover (formerly Deal A Meal) program is great. I calorie count, but that is essentially what his plan is as well-just dividing it into portions to make it easier for you. I hope you like it here!
hu everyone...well i have taken everyone's advice and zig zaging my calories throughout the week. The low days are hard because I don't have a job yet so I am constantly near the kitchen. AH! anyway i exercise monday -saturday--30 minutes of cardio and 3 days of strength training. Sunday I try to complete a winsor pilates dvd. well I hope i start to see some results. Im trying to lose a little over 10 pounds.
Does anyone have a good workout dvd that they enjoy using? I need to alternate my cardio sessions.
Danielle
Hiya Rebel & Aphil!! Thanks for the welcome Aphil I'm addicted to Capt Feathersword LOL!! My youngest has all the dang Wiggles DVD's and we ALL know all the words and dances LOL
I'm looking forward to getting his plan, although I do use Performance Diet Pro which counts calories, carbs, fats etc, but when my husband is home and on the PC its hard for me to switch names and log my stuff, and lord knows if I put it on the kids PC I'll never get to log anything sooooo Richards FM should be much easier. I'm hopeing to loose at least 15 lbs by May 15th, my oldest is making her Confirmation and I want to look halfway decent and not so blobby...then I'll just keep on working till I reach my goal/s.
Again thank you both for the welcome, I look forward to getting to know yall.
Welcome Chrissy, Sounds like you are on your way and have a good plan. We are all about healthy eating and exercise here...No fads or pills. Good Luck!
Welcome Chrissy, nice to have you here, the more the merrier! You sound like your doing everything the right way so thats a good thing. You have set a very realistic goal for yourself and I see you getting there with no problems
I have been doing good OP except for last night, I did a baaaaad thing, I baked cookies for the kids(thats not it ) I ate one!!!(that is ) I felt so bad afterwards and now I think about it, I mean it werent that bad, I did only eat one and I did do things afterwards(mopped floor, changed bedding, took shower) so I was doing things so maybe I worked it off I dont know. But that is exactly what I have been talking about, I can be doing great for a week or so and then, BOOM, I do this....Any ideas on a way to better displine yourself to stay away from those temptations?? I commit the act THEN feel rotten/guilty about it afterwards when its to late, damage done!!!
We are planning on taking the kids snowtubing tomorrow, that should be fun and running back up the hills should be good excersise! I just hope it is going to be a bit warmer than the last few days, our highs have only been in the lower 20s!! My fiances mom and step-dad left for FL today for a week and a half, I really tried to get them to shove me into a suitcase so I could go but they arent very rebelious all the begging I did, they just wouldnt do it, I guess that only works on dads when your an only daughter, hehe
Well I hope you all have a great weekend, take care
I have been lurking for a while. I am 31, going to be 32 a week from today I am married and have on dd, that turned 2 in december. I have gained and lost weight all my life and this time I am making it work. I have recently worked up to running 20 minutes at a time 4 days a week. Haven't added strength training yet, although I did do jorge cruise for a while. i want to get back to doing it again. I am trying to reduce portion size and lower calories. In two years I have lost around 60 lbs, if you count my highest pregnancy weight. So I have consistently keep it off with 5 - 7 lbs gains here and there. So this has probably been the first time in my life I have actively tried to keep weight off. I also read Dr. Phils book. I didn't follow his food plan, but I really like how he deals with emotional eating, etc. I am supposed to have back surgery soon, so I am also losing weight so that it won't be so bad on my body.
I am also a therapist at a rape crisis center. Well, I guess that is a big enough intro. I hope that I can help and get help here.
I'm excited about posting !!
Crystal
