Good Friday ladies

I had a good night. My friend Melissa finally made it over to work out with me. Made it a little funner. Yes, we are going to be getting freezing rain and ice over the weekend I just hope it doesn't get too icy and melts fast. One of my sisters is going to be flying in on Sunday and that could delay her? My mom will finally be flying in on Tuesday . I have not seem them in a year. It is too cold to walk at lunch today and I did the stairs yesterday? I guess I will not get to do anything today unless I do laps around the hall where the elevators are. People will think I am crazy. I will try to do my Pilates this evening after work.

Lor~ I am so looking forward to dress shoping with you this summer! We will be looking good too!

Hi Holly you must be busy at work this week? How are you doing with your cals?

I too get days in the month were I get so hungrey and could much all day but just try to avoid the food or do like Amy and eat low cals stuff. I have grabged a chip or something walking through the kitchen on those days and I could just go nuts but I will eat the one and leave the room or put them out of site! I don't know if it is PMS or not becouse I am not regular at all and never have been.

I did good last night 755 cals burned on the elliptical and 133 on the treadmill after. That is not counting my afternoon walk and the stairs.

Amy do you think that the elliptical is correct in its cal count? It just seems like a lot. I did it for 33 minutes at an avg speed, slowly rising from a resistance of 1 to 7 stayed there for 4 minutes then went back down to 1. It has pulse grips and I do know it records a higher cals burned when that is on than when it is off and it was on last night. I know the heart rate tells it how hard I am working? I hope it is right on? The treadmill has no pulse read and it seem to take me forever to burn 300 on it?

You all Have a good weekend girls and stay clear of the muchies!!!

Amie

I would not trut the calorie readouts on machines too much. There are too many variables-your fitness level, the amount of work your are putting into it, your current weight-too many things that change the individual calorie burn for everyone.
As long as you are DOING it...that is what counts-not what the calorie readout says.

That is what I was thinking? A short person may have to walk twice as hard and fast as a taller one just to keep up the same speed and time. I normally go by time. Every other day or so I try to add a minute or two to my over all time on the elliptical or walk. Thanks

Hello . . . TGIF!!! How's everyone today?

Yesterday was a so-so day for me. I over slept (man, am I ever TIRED!) and didn't have the time to pack my lunch to take to work. I had a salad for lunch, but that was all for the day. Dinner was good, another Cooking Lite recipe. I'd estimate I only ate about 900 calories for the day, which I understand isn't ideal. At the gym, I did my strength training, legs and abs. My fianace talked me out during cardio as well, since our legs were sore, and now I feel pretty guilty about that. Tonight I'm going to try to do another 45 minutes, I think splitting it up between the elyptical and treadmill.

Today is my day to weigh in, and I'm worried that I won't see any loss since it's my TOM. I feel pretty icky, actually, and I'm absolutely exhausted. I have to work tonight, too, and tomorrow, which is unusual.

Hi, Ddel, so nice to hear from you Thanks for the warm welcome! No, I don't have much free time at all, and my regular job is pretty demanding. I'm extremely underpaid, and am looking for a new job. If I were making what I should be, I'd only have to work one job. It's funny you should mention Georgia, that's where my fiance is from. He moved here from Columbus, which I understand is also outside of Atlanta.

Lori, I'm sure you and Amie will have a great time! I'm just trying to get over my fear of the salons. I have some time, luckily, but soon I'll have to get my butt in gear.

I was actually looking at a Pilates kit at the gym last night. I think I'm going to get one. When would be a good time to incorporate that into my workout?

Aphil, congrats on your sales! What you do sounds like so much fun. How did you get into it?

Also, do you have any recommendations for things I should be doing differently? Just curious . . .

Enjoy the weekend all
Jenny

Well, after entering my foods eaten into FitDay, and it turns out it only equals 758 calories

Jenny-
*get prepared for the scolding!!!*

Please, please, PLEEEEZ do not eat that low of calories. I beg you. Most people have a base metabolic rate WELL OVER that...meaning that you burn more than that every 2 hours just being alive-breathing, sleeping, bodily functions, and so on.
You absolutely cannot support your workouts on that calorie level. It will do two things-first your body will think you are starving it-so your metabolism will slow down to try and keep you alive-a starvation mode-so when you are working out and going through daily life-your body will actually burn LESS calories than usual. We are very primal creatures...your body is doing its job-trying to keep you alive during a famine.
Second-you are doing weights in order to increase your muscle-but you are not fueling them enough to increase that muscle-do calories this low and you will actually lose muscle mass-so your weight training will be in vain.
I realize that life happens-and every now and then it happens to me as well. There have been times now and then where the next thing I know it is almost bedtime and I have only eaten 900-1000 calories. I make sure that I have a "clean" mini-meal at that time of 200-300 calories to get it up to a better level. It's better than nothing.

Something I want everyone to remember for the day:

Muscles need two things to grow:
~enough fuel
~proper recovery time between strength training workouts

There is a specific balance that must be applied for optimum results-you want to eat less to lose weight, but you do not want to eat so little that your body puts any progress to a halt in order to conserve energy. You want to work those muscles to the point of failure when you strength train-but you want to allow proper recovery and growth time for them afterwards.

Awwww, Jenny, bless you...758 cals!?! You should buy some 'convienece' food items to carry around with you in your bag for times like that. Maybe a couple of Zone bars (choc carmel crunch is yum), baggies of nuts, like maybe an ounce of almonds or pine nuts (these, along with black walnuts, have the highest protein content of all the nuts) or maybe even an apple or an orange - pretty sturdy fruits for toting along! Quick things you can munch on pretty easily in a squeeze. And yes, do look for a better paying job, in that field you can make a real good salary. My hubby was very underpaid and he took a job through a consulting group for the state of VA and got hired on there working for the govenor fulltime after about a year and a half making a pretty nice salary.

Well, I posted on the Ladies Who Lift Forum about my "Sounds to good to be true" weight training plan and the concensus is that yes...too good to be true. I will incorporate some of the "Power of Ten" concepts in my training, but pretty much stick to conventional methods.....ahhhhh if it sounds to good to be true........

Hey everyone! I'm still here, just haven't been posting as usual. I have been so busy with work I barely have time to read the daily posts but I am going to try to catch up this week. Hello to all the new people! I can't keep up with all the new names which tells me I need to get more involved here.

Well, my update is what I figured. I had to go back to the doctor and they are sending me to a surgeon. The mass is located in a lymph node and they are trying to take precautions. I cant complain about that, I just want to get this thing taken care of and move on. The good news is that whole doctor thing has really kicked me into gear. As of today I have lost 15 1/2 pounds since Jan. 1st. Now of course alot of that is water weight because I really ate everything in my path over the holidays. But I have really stuck to my plan. I haven't really counted calories. I have just focused on eating as much fresh produce as possible, lots of fiber and water and making sure I get protein in at every meal. It's really worked and I haven't been hungry. I have also increased my "healthy" fat intake. I used to eat as little fat as possible but I have substituted my fat-free dressings for olive oil or flax-seed oil and vinegar. I read in one of my Shape magazines that you need to eat some fat in order for you body for absorb the nutrients in your food, so that's what I have been doing. It also helps me to stay full longer. My husband and I have been exercising pretty much everyday....alot of walking. I guess I'm lucky that he wants to work out with me after hearing some of the trouble that you guys have had with your husbands not wanting to. However, he says his primary motivation is that I am getting ready to be in my sexual peak and he says he just wants to be physically prepared Whatever works.

We are going to Aruba in April and I would like to drop some more weight so that alone keeps me motivated.....as well as the whole surgery thing Everyone seems to be doing so well! Let's hang in there together!!

HI Ladies

Well we got lucky this weekend and only got a little ice and snow. It is already gone. My DD was upset that she did not get to go out in it and play or make a snowman, there was just not enouph to even play in.

Sunday was weight in day. I have been working so hard and still am OP and working out 6 days a week. I am happy that I had a loss of just under a pound but did want to see a little more I finally found my chart from a year ago with my weekly weight and measurements. I took out my tape and measured Sunday. I can not tell if I have lost inches in the last month becouse the last measurements I took were at the end of December 2003! I wish I had kept up with them but it was fun to look back at the numbers and see how they had changed. When I started all this in June of 03 My chest measured in at 50"!! and Sunday it was like 40" and My hips were 54" in june of 03 and Sunday was around 42"? I do not have my paper in front of me. I know my arms have gone from 14 1/2" to 12". I took my tape measure and put it at 54 inches and put it around my hips and it looked so big, like if I had put an innertube around me! That really showed me how I have changed. I stayed home all weekend and cleaned my DD playroom and closets. I am getting ready for my mom to arrive on Tuesday night.

Hope you all had a good weekend and have a great day

Amie

I went from 158.4 to 157.8 Sunday It's a loss right! I wanted to try for 1.5 lbs a week to get to my goal by june but I guess we can not put a schedule on our body and how we lose weight? 29.8 lbs to go

Good going Lori........ a pound is a pound ?

Aphil it was cool to see the inches I lost but I wish I had been keeping track over this last 6 months? I will now. I wrote down what I measures Sunday. Do you measure just once a month? I use to do it about every other week and seemed to loose 1/4 inches? It is hard for me to wait ?

Del is that your little ones picture ....what a cutie!

How ya doin Holly.... ?

I would only measure once a month. Now that you are getting closer to goal-things will start going a little slower-so just choose the same day (1st, 10th, etc.) and measure that day every month.

Off to pick up Jas from school, then time to work out!!

Hello Man, Monday's are brutal! Only ohhhh . . . 10 or so hours until I can go back to bed lol I have no idea why I'm so exhausted, but it's really getting me down.

I had a decent weekend. I missed my workout (and everything else) Saturday because I was in bed with a migraine all day, but Sunday we were right back in the gym. I weighed in on Friday, and lost a pound. I think that was pretty good, because I could tell I was bloated from the dreaded TOM. We did arms, back, chest, and abs yesterday, and then 30 minutes of cardio. For the first time, I was able to get up to 3.4 MPH, with varying inclines. Just for kicks, my fiance had me weigh in again yesterday, and I'd lost another 2 LBS.

Last night was my cousin's sweet 16 birthday party, and I did so well! Skipped the appetizers, had a bunch of salad and just a couple of bites of the lasagna. Also skipped dessert.

We're going on vacation at the end of the week, to Las Vegas. I'm so looking forward to it! We'll be doing a ton of walking, and I can definitely still watch what I eat, but I'm not planning on being as strict. My goat for the 5 days I'm gone is just to maintain my current weight.

Amoses, excellent job on the inches . . . that's major! I wish I had measured when I first started. My first measurements were Friday, so I'm looking forward to seeing some change at the end of the week.

How's everyone else??
