Good day everyone. i have been having a little computer trouble lately due to the recent rainy storms I've been dealing with here but its nice and sunny out today yay for that!

I've been having major binging problems lately but today I did not binge at least. I am keeping my calories a bit higher (but mostly healthy) until I get some better self-control because I really need to work and ease my way back down to 1200 again. I'm aiming to go 21 days binge-free I've heard it takes that long to really break a bad habit so day one complete,:

5/3 Tuesday:

B- whole grain flake cereal w/ yogurt + banana: 225
S- golden raisins + fruit salad: 145
L- PB&J oatmeal + milk: 370
S- black cherry chobani yogurt + spinach & mushrooms w/ laughing cow cheese wedge: 235
D- bok choy stir-fry w/ northern beans over brown rice + grapefruit juice: 323
S- apple w/ PB: 200

Total = 1498

Junk Food = Saturated fats, Trans fats, fructose, white sugar, white flour and butter and is poison to human arteries and when the arteries get clogged they can give people heart attacks, strokes and even cause cancer.

The only faster way to clog arteries is to smoke on top of eating junk food. If parents only knew the dangers they would think twice about letting their kids eat it. You can tell people but it's their personal choice to eat it or not.

You’re saving and lengthening your own life by say “No” to Junk Food. You’re a smart kid!!!!! Keep up the good work. Venting helps to cope and figure out problems. I use to let people upset me to the point where my only defense was to self-medicate with food. Steer clear of that problem. Finally, I told my offenders to leave me alone evidently; I was convincing enough they did. I might add that event was not pretty.

You keep up the good work, and if you have any questions you can always ask me. If I don’t know the answer I’ll help you find the answer.

Keep Your Head High You’re Doing the Right Thing!

Thank you for this Kit, it really motivated me to try harder. I am really afraid of trans fat HFCS and so on... pretty much all that is found in junk food so I usually can stay away from it without much of a problem now that I know too much bad things about it. I similarly would do that exact thing when some one or something upset me I would go straight to food, specifically junk. Diabetes and heart disease runs in my family so I am trying to eat very healthy due to that as well. I try to warn family about some of the things they eat but usually they reply with a " I only live once so I may as well eat what ever" so they really do not care much about their health. You seem to know a lot of knowledge on this which is very great! It really feels good to get it out and rant. Thanks again for your support I appreciate it

Kit: on your 2 pound loss that's great!! All your hard work is paying off
Btw, I failed so many times too, especially these last few months and I managed to gain around 15lbs back so it just got me feeling down over that fact. But all those mess-ups have made me strong and pushed me to the limit to my last straw and now I'm not making any messing up an option now. It'll get easier as it becomes more natural over time. I just have to make it through this beginning again which I'm definitely finding it very hard! I'm glad you figured out and solved the problem that caused you to mess up in the past, I hope to do the same.

5/4 Wednesday:

B- ww pancakes w/ banana slices & yogurt: 360
S- apple: 100
L- ww tofu mushroom wrap + grapefruit juice + baby carrots: 325
S- strawberry yogurt: 170
D- baked ziti + salad w/ lite dressing: 330
S- mango smoothie: 150

Total = 1435

Thanks Bee,

You're really smart to keep track of your calories at such a young age. Everyone is different and everyone has to find their own course. My course was to eat by the book. I’ve seen family members in the hospital and put on a diet prescribed by a doctor and nutritionist.

I figured it would be better to start practicing good nutrition now, while I have good health. I don’t want to wait until I’m sick to start. I figure it’s now or wait until I’m hospitalized so, I decided now. I’m sure it'll keep me healthier and will extend my life in the long run.

What I have problems with is forcing myself to exercise. I start exercising then I get so sore and I quit. I’m such a big baby. I guess I‘d better toughen up. LOL

Kit: That's really good that you decided to do something about nutrition before its too late or gets bad. I started to get bad health problems at my highest weight and really decided to get healthy, I have to keep reminding myself I do not want to go back there again and bring back those bad eating habits and health problems once again.

About the exercise I do have an exercise problem, I find I have no motivation to really exercise everyday, I force myself to walk for 30-60 minutes a day and that's about it. I tend to get so bored with it and give up before I even get half-way through a workout. I also hate the soreness which usually leads me to not caring or not trying. I mostly think of the health befits of doing daily exercise everyday while I'm exercising so I can continue through it. I need to toughen up I think with exercise as well.

Nice job with another pound lost!

5/5 Thursday:

B- ww puff cereal w/ banana & cinnamon + milk + tea w/ creamer: 230
S- cheese stick: 70
L- Italian turkey veggie wrap + baby carrots + golden raisins: 303
S- apple + coffee w/ creamer: 120
D- 1/2 baked potato w/ lite sour cream + bok choy veggie stir-fry + turkey bacon + strawberries: 300
S- strawberry yogurt: 170

Total = 1193

Dear Bumblebee,

Hey, great job on maintaining your calories yesterday! Thank You for the encouragement. People can eat themselves unhealthy I was on the verge of doing that. I hope your health problem are all gone and you improve from here on out. What kind of health problems did you have?

Dr. Andrew Weil teaches at Arizona State University and he said something to the effect of, your body is like a river if you pollute it, it will be polluted but if you stop polluting it, it will eventually clean itself up. I personally believe that to be true from my own experience.

I’m with you on exercise Thank God the experts say, we humans only need 30 minutes of exercise per day to maintain good health. I can’t imagine exercising 4 hours a day lifting weights and doing back bends... I’d rather float around in the pool on my air mattress.

I’m working up to doing 30 minutes of exercise per day. I have a bunch of Denise Austin DVDs (17) she has a degree in Physiology and is one of Jack La Lane’s prodigies, so I trust her ability to me teach correctly. I do everything from Pilates, yoga, kick boxing, cardio, step and dance so it’s not boring. It’s the soreness that kills me. I guess I'll just have to work through it. Well, have a good day and I’ll post my stats later.

Chow,

Kit

I’ll post my stats now, I’m confident that I can make it through the day. I’m stuffed and I still have dinner to eat. I always eat early so, I’m sure I can make it. Today’s menu is very satisfying and filling and very nutritious. I steamed the veggies separate from the meat so, they wouldn’t absorb any of the fat rendering off the roast.

Hi all, sorry I've been absent this past week. My huband became sick on the way home from the wedding last weekend, and we ended up going to the ER very early on Monday morning. He was admitted to the hospital and was there all week, just discharged yesterday afternoon. I was at the hospital almost non-stop this week and things were very hectic, and so wasn't able to calorie count at all, but I tried my best to keep control of my food intake regardless. It seems to have worked, as I was down 2.2 lbs from Sunday when I weighed yesterday, so that's good news! I am VERY happy to be back at home though, and am happily back to calorie counting.

While in the hospital my husband was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and has to be on insulin, so we are working hard at present to make changes to his diet. At least for the time being, then, I am calorie counting for two, each of us with different caloric requirements, and I am carb counting for him as well along with keep track of his blood sugar, insulin doses and medications, and doing all the food planning and cooking... It's wearing me out a bit, but will get easier with time. And maybe I can get him to the point where he doesn't need me to do all this for him... but right now that's the best way to keep him on track. He is, understandably, very overwhelmed and upset, and since I'm already tracking my own stuff it's one way I can help make this easier for him.

Anyway, because of all of that I am tracking some additional numbers in my own diet, and so they'll look even messier now when I paste them from my spreadsheet! For this thread, I suppose the only one that matters is the first number - calories.

Chickadee32,

I’m so sorry about your husband’s health. We women have to bare all the burdens. You should teach him how to count calories and eat healthy. A lot of men when they’re out of sight tend to eat unhealthy. I hope you can deal with the stress and keep on track. You should tell him he has a lifelong problem and he’ll have to learn how to cope with it and not solely depend on you to feed him like a baby bird.

Looks like you did stellar regardless! Congratulations at keeping your calories in check!

Thanks, Kit. I will get him into the routine of calorie and carb counting, but for now he's still adjusting to the finger pricks, insulin and eating differently, and I don't want to overwhelm him with too much at once. I'll take care of it for now, and ease him into it in another month or so. I am confident that once he sees some progress he'll want to do even more.

In the meantime, my eating has been kind of weird. I was so used to cooking separate meals for him and I, and now that I'm trying to eat with him but in smaller portions I'm not getting enough calories or enough fiber, and my fat is higher than usual. I'll need to figure out how to make this work for both of us.
