Smile A Few Personals . . .

starmac13: I journal in FitDay, and it really helps me. Tracking points with WW was hand written and I didn't do it very well, but the Internet version of FitDay or the one I purchased calculated everything for me. I can see when I've had more carbs than I should, or way too much fat, or too little protein. The initial set up is a little time-consuming, but after that, it's easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy.

clykk and cakses: Thanks for the explanations. cakses, my nickname was Baby Cakes when I was a kid. I'm 40 and my mom still calls me that, so at least you've got company in embarrassed-land . clykk, very original and appropo, I like it!

RangerChic: Congrats on the 1st and 2nd interviews! And double congrats on getting into 16's!! I can hear the 14's calling your name, can't you?

Jessiebear: I think I may borrow your idea of rewarding yourself $5 for every pound lost, if you don't mind. Instead of clothes, I think I may use the $$ to splurge on a trip though. Do you pay yourself as you go or tuck the money away for later?

Rain Dancer: You can't get your sweat on if your family is at home? Do you have another room in the house where you can go do a workout, like cakses' LCW on page 24? It looks killer and I'm going to try it instead of fast-forwarding through the commercials like usual. Good job on getting back on track, too!

Kimberly: I hope your recuperation from surgery goes smoothly and painlessly.

tmil206: Bad moments / days happen. Don't get frustrated or disappointed. Instead, be proud of yourself for trying again. You only fail if you don't try.

It's almost Wednesday. Belly dance class for me!

Good morning, RED TEAM!!

ASH, CONGRATS on your win!! And thanks for noticing my big loss! Percentage wise, it doesn't beat yours (mine was 2.32%), but I was very pleased with it.

In fact, I am very pleased with how my loss is going. I weigh daily and record it, even though Friday is my big day. So far, I am averaging almost a pound a day! I know it won't always be that way, so I'm gonna ride that train as long as I can!

I haven't watched last night's episode yet, so I am avoiding that thread until I see it.

Oh, and the QOTD: I don't have any rewards set up. I shall give that some thought today and put it in my blog.

See y'all!

Of course you can steal my idea....I love it so much...I am tucking away for later, hopefully for when I hit my goal and I will have about 500 dollars saved. A trip sounds great as well!!! Good Luck, let me know how it goes.

Clykk - Okay I will do it. I COMMIT to making healthy choices today by sticking to the meal plan (with portions sizes) that I have set up for myself for today. If I am feeling hungry, I will drink a bottle of water then ask myself again if I really want something to eat.

Knobhdy is an old nickname, a *******ization from Odysseus incounter with the cyclops. It is pronounced NO-body. When I was in college, every student was given an email address that was a series of letters and numbers indicating our class year, our mail box, our status as students. Nothing personalized at all. So when I made the move over to computer science and was given the chance to create my own user name, obviously knobhdy was it. I ended up keeping the name for all of my online stuff because I know no one else will be using it.
Some people get it right away. Others not so much...

P.S. that is not a swear word. It means an act that debases or corrupts... Geeze the internet is picky.

Congrats, Ashmomma for being the red teams biggest loser! That's amazing that the whole team lost 119 lbs!

Congrats to everyone on your 1st week results!

I shamelessly have been having a less than stellar January. It is sooooo busy at work (not complaining!) that I have maybe 5minutes now, 5minutes later to be on this site so I'm just skimming the postings.

I've been good in that since Christmas I have visited fast food only once - last Thursday. Typically, I would have been there easily 5x week. I have been packing lunch everyday and have eaten dinner out once last week.

Steelers are playing great - superbowl bound (hopefully) and in this area, that means parties. Put nibbles in front of me and I'm a grazing fool. Exercising has been lacking too...

Ok slap me silly for all my excuses - wah,wah,wah....hope to be back on
track....

starmac13 - I find food journaling really helpful. It helps you see how helpful your food choices are. I had some snacks that I thought were okay and when I started journaling I realized that they were really high in calories. It was eye-opening to "see" it in the numbers. Now I substitute different snacks or only eat small amounts of the high calorie snacks. For example, I substituted a yummy chocolate sorbet (120 cal per 1/2 cup) for Ben & Jerry's ice cream (260 cal per 1/2 cup). I've used plain old pencil and paper, Fitday, and The Daily Plate. I like the Daily Plate best. (But you do have to pay attention to make sure the information is correct.)

ASHmomma-Congrats!

Congrats to everyone on a good first week. Keep it up the hard work and have some fun with it!

Hi Team! Sorry I just got in from work and my workout (yay me for staying an extra 45 minutes to do it!). Looks like some of us are struggling with choices - whether they be food or exercise. I just have to tell you this - the weight doesn't come off without it, period. You have to control your food intake and workout in some way. Here is an interesting fact to get us all moving and lifting

"Studies have estimated that for each pound of muscle that you add to your body, you burn an additional 35 to 50 calories per day. So, an extra 10 pounds of muscle will burn approximately 350 to 500 calories a day, or an extra pound of fat every 7 to 10 days, without making any other changes. In another study, researchers found that regular weight training boosts basal metabolic rate by about 15%. This is because muscle is 'metabolically active' and burns more calories than other body tissue even when you're not moving."

So while we don't know the "exact" number or percentage, the more muscle we put onto our bodies, the better. So get moving so you get the extra benefits!

Let's have an awesome week 2!!!

I have a new challenge going up and it's very optional because it's 5 weeks long but I figured if I was doing it anyways, I may as well invite you all to as well! I will do weekly challenges again starting Monday. For this week, I am going to do a weekend challenge since it's already Wednesday. I will put both up in a second. Thanks everyone!

Just wanted to share my good news with everyone.... I got a job today! I am very happy. I start the first week of February and oddly enough, can't wait! It's stunk being unemployed since the beginning of December and I'm happy things are looking up!

Since my new work hours are going to be crazy, I'll have to play with my workout schedule, I have to admit that it has been nice being able to exercise whenever I wanted during the day.

Quick question, can you maybe start another chat every other week or something a la Blue team? Or, did you already plan to do that soon cakses? Just curious.

Hello!
Another god day. Did 60 minutes workout at home, and then 30 min on bike. Tomorrow I'll do my second day of C25K..
My reward is to buy a new pair of jeans and a new bikini when I reach my goal.. Will need the second one if I reach my goal to this summer
Stay OP everyone! And buy those Extra gums,, at least they're helping me..
