I kept my online WW membership for about a month so I could be sure it was working ... Then I cancelled it.... I was actually doing totally LC from the 7/20 date I was just still stressed about points etc - making it way harder than it should have been. Once I gave up the whole point thing life was so much easier.

I do track my carbs on an app I like because it is easy and while it show calories, fat, fiber etc the main thin it tracks is Carbs .. CarbsControl. I love it - the one thing I really really wish they would work on that would make it almost perfect would be if it had the ability to sync between devices -- I might have my iPod with me during the day but I use my iPad other times - it would be SUPER if it showed any changes on both...

this is such a hard time for any weight loss program but for me the challenge helps keep me motivated but I understand how hard it can be - maybe being such a hard time I should have made it a 10 lb challenge (heck i haven't gone off at all and I dont think i will make 15lbs) which would have been better but we will start a new one Jan 1st and I bet we will have lots of folks join in and do really well. Which will be a great start to the new year.

Even if people use the challenge to maintain or keep from quitting and come back with a fresh start it's a good thing..
I know you're around Rho

I'm just wondering about all the other people that joined but haven't posted in a while. I think Thanksgiving can throw some people off and then they just want to wait until after Christmas to start. That's how I always did it before LOL!

Not this year though! I'm hoping to get a start on New Year's. I hope they will join us again after the holidays. Maybe we can do a Valentine's challenge then

I think we should do challenge after challenge after challenge, Violet. Posting to this thread is great, it keeps me motivated. And it's really nice getting to know people

Kel, I'm super impressed you managed to resist the free donuts! I could happily pay for donuts most days (alas, cannot eat them, gluten-y little darlings that they are)

Challenge after challenge sounds great! I need to lose 80 pounds so this will take a while

I have one of my friends doing LC now! I'm excited! She has tried it before and she said she gets really crabby on it. I told her to hang on with it and get over the sugar withdrawals and I told her my little tricks I have found to work this time so maybe she will hang in there. I just don't know...

I'm glad to have you guys to chat with!

I need to get to the store and stock up on my favorites. It seems like beef and pork keep me satisfied longer than chicken and turkey. Eggs do too.

I really love Nolan Ryan's precooked hamburger patties. They are fast and taste so good. You just pop them in the microwave and go!

LACREADORA: celebrate every little thing. A pound is still plenty - go pick up a pound of butter and see. I've lost 12 ish, and I was shocked the other day when I picked up a ten lb bag at how much I had took off. As Aunt Flo leaves, I usually have a "whoosh." I'll cross my fingers for a big whoosh for ya.

Rho: keep on keepin' on. We're making it!

Today I was good, then bad, then good. Lunch was an emotional peer pressure thing. Caterers just never account for low carbers. I had literally NO choices. I could have had nothing and ate later, but I wasn't that tough. We have a new program at work that's meant to help us turn around our bad environment. It was a breath of fresh air moment. Then our CEO announced he's leaving, because his wife has cancer and needs him at home. And we all boohooed. Bad. Emotional roller coaster catered lunch!

Breakfast: Omelet with cheese, real bacon bits, coffee with cream.
Snack: (lunch was late so snack was early) about an ounce cocoa dusted almonds
lunch: do you really need to know? (OK, chicken salad croissants (2 - they were small), salad (was very sweet, predressed, and loaded with mixed greens and fruit like blueberries, oranges, strawberries), banana pudding for dessert. Diet coke LOL. Everything but the diet coke was sweet. The chicken salad without the bread was sweet and loaded with grapes. I guess good is equated with sweet. Then a little later I had a cookie.
supper: stir fry with ground beef and cole slaw mix (YUM)
Bedtime: vanilla sugar free coffee YUM

Ah, well, you did the best you could, Kel! And you ate a good dinner which is awesome. It takes me longer to rein in a slip like that, they last at least the rest of the day unless I literally lie on the floor kicking and screaming :-)

Sad about your CEO's wife - all the best to them and you all.

It's such a good idea to compare what we lose to actual things. Like a bag of sugar is about 2 pounds and weighs a tonne! (ok, that doesn't actually make sense, but you know what I mean!). It's such a shock. I saw a cartoon the other day with a picture of a guy carrying a fridge on his back (the equivalent of being like twice the weight he should've been) and him saying, 'doc, my knees hurt' and the doc was all 'we'll order an MRI'. When you see it like that, it really hits home what the extra weight is like. Anyway, it made me laugh.

LaCreadora, 1 pound is still 1 pound lost! Do you feel you are getting enough fat in and are pretty low on carbs? Maybe your diet needs tweaking?

Kel, so sorry to hear about your CEO's wife. Cancer sux big time! As far as your diet goes, you got back on track that evening. You didn't make the whole day be a carb fest! good job!

AnaBee, I love that analogy about the fridge. There was an ortho doc at the clinic I used to work at that would tell people flat out that they were fat and if they lost weight their knees wouldn't hurt so bad. He could have used some classes in bedside manner, but I believe he is right. I've read that one pound lost is 10 pounds of pressure off the knees.

I did have a few more carbs last night. My DD and I went out to eat and I had a few chips and salsa with my salad. It was very good. We went to the store afterwards and I'm stocked up on bacon again! yay! lol..

We have a busy weekend ahead. My DD has a winter formal dance tomorrow and I'm taking her to get her hair done. She is excited. She has become a not so girly-girl, so this is exciting to me that she is going to wear a dress lol!

I'm working OT tonight and sunday to help out with work but also for OT pay. I work at home doing med transcription. I thought it wouldn't hurt to get in some $$$$ and also to have it look good to my employer that I'm willing to help out. I'm new there and want to make a good impression. It's going to be busy though. I'm off work Monday and wanted to finish up my Christmas shopping. I guess I won't really have a day off this week :P

I swear my body is playing with .2 lbs this week just to make me crazy - up .2 down .2, up Down up down....I know I shouldn't be frustrated because I will see a loss by my weigh in day (how it does that I have no idea) but dang it is like my body knows I have 3 weeks to get to 50 lost to meet my personal goal when I see the doctor and it is making me CRAZY!!

Last night we went to a potluck Xmas part at the antique FD group we belong to And I literally ate one slice of kielbasa (not chunk or piece - one dinky little thin slice) and nothing else and drank 2 seltzers - while everyone one was having dips, chips, spreads, crackers, dinner of meatballs in gravy, ziti, kielbasa and sauerkraut and a full table of cakes, brownies, cookies, cheesecake ---- and had and still have an issue with the one slice of kielbasa and this morning I was up that stinking .2 I lost yesterday. And I feel like crud to boot. I still taste that kielbasa in the back of my throat, my stomach feels like it has a basket ball lodged in it -- just yuck. And insulted by that stinkin' .2 lbs that was on the scale again this morning again!!

And my head is stuffed up, and I'm having a LP flare and because of that I have a few ulcers on each sides of my mouth ---- and you probably guessed by now I am just plain cranky

I do know intellectually that this is nothing -- and I'm sure I will lose something by weigh in day -- and I'm just cranky and feeling yucky but dang it isn't fair after giving up all those goodies - so I'm letting little Rho out to stomp her feet and have a temper tantrum for a little while...

rho rho rho: ok, back down slowly off the mountain. Don't look down. Curse that .2 and it's little dog too! I wills end out the flying monkeys if I need to!

I was totally on plan yesterday, except a little sugar free dessert which couldn't have been the worst thing I could do.

Breakfast: eggs, bacon, coffee, cream
Lunch: salad with chicken lunch meat from home and ranch, diet dew
Snack: cocoa almonds, few pepperoni
Supper: ate with friends who cooked burgers, no bun, cheese, tomatoes, salad, avocados, roast cauliflower, diet coke. Dessert was coffee and sugar free walmart chocolate pie. It had crust and I'm sure some "nonsugar" starchy stuff in it. But it was good, and I'm sure there's worse.

Kel you did GREAT! Are your friends dieters or did they look for the sugar free one for you?

I'm feeling better - still annoyed at that blasted .2 but not homicidal over it at least

We had scallops tonight so I used the low carb flour and they were yummy! I will check - for curiosity sake - my blood in an hour and then in 2 hours but they are the one thing I won't not have fried and fried needs something on it - this is the best compromise I came up with. I needed a treat after last night - and there is enough left over for us to have it tomorrow night yay

176.6!

I convinced myself that eating toasted sandwiches on Friday night and friday night alone would work. And then I got a pie too. Woke up on Saturday morning to a 1 pound loss (173) that totally went to my head because instead of being grateful and reigning in my binge I kept going - had the second pie, and more toasted cheese sandwiches the next day. Then I had icecream ...ICECREAM on Sunday. And lots of fruit. Oh and a bunch of white potatoes. Sheesh!! Managed to throw the cream in the bin before finishing it, but I woke up all three mornings feeling hung over from the carb binge and man do I have cravings today. Not hunger, just a desire to bury myself in refined flour butter covered products. I ended up skipping lunch because I didn't want what I have to eat (tuna salad). I feel like a toddler mommy's sent to her room

Going home to lamb, parsley salad (lemon juice, yum!!) and some other green vegetable I have to decide on/purchase. I like this meal! I don't know why I choose boring old cheese and toast).

I think I've learned a good lesson, but one I don't want to learn :-( The last three fridays I've had something I shouldnt', something I know I shouldn't but talk myself into allowing. And then I spend the next half week firstly trying to reign in the cravings, then losing water weight, then feeling great and then letting myself talk myself into it.

This Friday I thought I had it sorted. I would under no circumstances let it go beyond that night. HA. That lasted about 10 minutes after I first thought about pie on Saturday.

And it wasn't so much about wanting to eat that stuff in particular, it was more rebelling against feeling like I *can't* eat that stuff. But I can eat that stuff, as much as I like whenever I like. But I can't do that and wake up feeling good, or do that and be thin. It doesn't work and I have to make the choice. And I chose low carb and not bingeing because I know it's better. But I wish I didn't ever want the other because I hate the struggle.

Ugh. Anyway, glad to get that off my chest. Next time I want to binge it's going to have to be with low carb foods. We'll see how much fun bingeing is then! *shakes fist*

AnaBee,

We all need a little pie sometimes! This weekend, I was craving sweets, so my favorite treat is Cream Cheese -- A couple tablespoons to a quarter of a cup should do the trick -- with a bit of vanilla extract and enough Splenda to get it to your liking. I microwave it for a few seconds, stir it up and put it in the fridge to cool (or not). It's just what I need to kick every kind of sweet craving.

Also, if you have a bit more time, here's a recipe for a carb free cheesecake: http://www.lowcarb300.com/low-carb-cheesecake.html

You can do it!

AnaBee I know that little girl - mine stomps her feet and sometimes even throws herself on the floor in a full blown tantrum (well in my mind she does all that and usually in her best clothes too) although she has been doing it because the scale is messing with my head this week ...

Do you keep a journal or could you write something and keep it next to your fridge or something with what you said in your post and exactly how bad you felt .. Just something that if that hit again you could read and remind yourself before you give in. Maybe instead of thinking about the losing weight portion concentrate on how much better you feel without the carbs and how cruddy you feel after eating them..

I ate higher carbs than normal yesterday - with the leftover scallops - and I had almonds last night because hubby had evil cookies that we're calling my name and I didn't want to be tempted by them. So my total carbs were around 60 for the day net was around 30 but I normally try to stay between 20-30 total for the day and most days on the low side of that. I did check my BG after the scallops and after an hour it went to 106 and in 2 hours it was down to 102 so not a significant raise and no cravings from it. I don't use the LC flour often - only for scallops and fried fish if i know we will have fish tacos as leftovers - and it is not thick when I do use it - it is just to have some brown coating on things. we discussed maybe having scallops for Xmas Eve if we can get them but then it will be done for a year I think..

MsGetRight - WHOO HOO - doing great!! I have to remember your cream cheese idea - like you say sometimes you just want something creamy and sweet ..

Morning everyone - how are we doing? I'm a little stressed because of a good thing - that came about Sunday night and was done yesterday - I bought a new to me car - a friend got a new new one and was selling his old vehicle - mine was a 1999 and his is a 2006 - getting money together today (acckk) and dropping it off - his cars are pristine and well maintained - he owns the local body shop and is fixing one little scratch we found - and is a friend also.

Someone else was looking at it also but he needed financing and couldn't get it so at the end of the day yesterday the owner called and said it was ours. A huge hit to our savings but no payments which is a good thing and way less than a new new would be ... Which would have been coming up soon. I listened to the whispering in my ear on that and my gut - and both were saying that a deal like this doesn't come along much...

Ok ACCCK acck ACCCK ..... I will not stress eat!
