well guys, I have to get off the Atkins/Low carb wagon. My thyroid just can't handle such low carb dieting. It causes a thyroid regulating down effect where it just doesn't work as well. I'm glad I now know why I feel so terrible on LC, but now I have to figure out how to lose weight.
In 2003 when I lost 40 pounds in a short time on LC I didn't have a thyroid problem. I've been going back to that and I keep trying and trying LC, but I'm just not feeling well. Now I know why. I wasn't hypothyroid then in 2003 but I am now. That is making the difference.
I'm looking into the mediterranean way of eating. I have to be gluten free, so I'm thinking just sticking with lots of fish and veggies and some fruits with some chicken and occasional beef and pork. I have to modify things to make it work for me.
I wish all of you success in LC and it DOES work if you work it. I wish I could tolerate it. The weight loss with it is amazing.
Violet we will miss your posting here but check in once and awhile to let us know how you are doing - I'm glad you found out what was going on and the most important thing is your health.
Ana I know posting helps me so I'm glad you feel the same way.
My 2 lb gain is almost gone - I knew it was more a matter of getting my water back up and um - getting things moving along again - because I had done well over the holiday - but I still wanted to scream on the scale - you can intellectually know what is going on but emotionally have a meltdown seeing it.
The people on Mark's Daily apple also eat the way you're looking at, but much higher carb than us. There's lots of good resources there, which you might find helpful.
Rho, I totally relate to this:

I'm losing the water I gained over the weekend with my crazy carb eating, but it's still so frustrating! I'm glad you feel like you're on track.
Well as of this morning I lost those 2 lbs and one more so I was a happy camper on the scale -- now for it to nudge a little lower for tomorrows official weigh in day for me .
Kelly welcome - since half the challenge is over you might want to make your challenge half of the original one or round it up to 8 lbs - just so you are working towards a number that can be made (or you could be one of the lucky ones who loses fast and blow right by the half number an go all the way to the challenge number) The more the merrier here -
I was at 172.8 this morning, so going down again, yay. I don't know if it'll be possible for me to get to 15 by new years either, since I started late, but I'll see how it goes. If I can do 10 then I'll be in the 160s for the first time in a very long time, so either way a very positive start to 2012.
Kelly, I just joined last Friday. My thinking is it's never too late. If we don't lose 15, hopefully we'll lose more than we would have if we hadn't joined.
hey guys! I talked with someone pretty knowledgable about thyroid issues and he suggested I continue with LC/Atkins and that things will level out over time. I'm going to add in a more potent B-complex vitamin to the mix too. I'm so glad to be back. Carbs are a slippery slope that I can't go down! Plus, I missed my bacon LOL!
Ok guys I need some love today b/c I am feeling down. Tomorrow will be 3 weeks for me and so far NO lost this week. I been really good and didn't go off plan for Thanksgiving so I'm really hoping the scale hasn't drop b/c my tmi should start tomorrow. So, so far if scale remains the same tomorrow I will have lost 7 pounds in 3 weeks. Which is slow for me b/c on any other diet I have always lost a minimal of 10 pounds by the first 2 weeks so not sure what I am doing wrong.
I am jumping in here too. I have a trip to Disneyworld scheduled for January 28 and I need to lose a few. I started the summer at 162. I have not weighed that since I was pregnant 21 years ago. That and my sister-in-law got me moving. I did the HCG diet and lost 20 over the summer. I kept it off until about a month ago. I am up 10 pounds (152) and really want to get to 125 by next June when I turn 50. When I tell people they say that is way to skinny but I am only 5'4" and have a small frame. I am determined to do it. But in the meantime I would love to be down to at least 140 by the end of January. I think that or 135 are well within reach. If I stick to it I lose pretty fast but that is part of my problem. I know that if I cheat I can just get serious later and take it off but then I never seem to get around to it. I am doing it now. Another goal is to get off my blood pressure medicines and I am hoping 125 will do that for me.
Thank you SO much! I know that LC is the way to go for me. I'm going to try to do everything I can to make it work and to feel good while doing it

7 pounds is great! Did you mean TOM will start tomorrow? If so, then that is probably why you have no weight loss this week. I bet you have a whoosh next week
