Good evening GG's,

It's been a long day. I woke up at 4:30 this am and could not go back to sleep. Things on my mind. I wanted to get my thoughts down in a document ~ gathered all together in one place. The day just seemed to disappear.

Got to talk to my mom today ~ we had a nice fun little visit. When I can catch up with her in her room, we get to visit a little longer. Now that she is in the nursing home, I don't get to talk to her as much as I used to ~ I am kind of lost without her. I always joked that she was my therapist. She was a great listener. Didn't try to "fix" it, just listened. I try to call every day, but with the time difference (she is EST) and having to work around meal times there ~ and fit it in with what is going on here, it doesn't always work out for every day.

K3 ~ hope the weather warms up for you. I might try your sleep advise sometime when sleep just eludes me. Did you have good Bridge scores?

Mary ~ glad you felt stronger today. You are doing great at the gym. Hope Joe doesn't have any more bleeding.

Cajun ~ keep up the good work with eating better. Your trampoline jogging sounds kinda fun.

Lynn ~ your butternut squash soup sounds yummy ~ thank you for sharing the recipe.

Welcome Liana ~ glad to have you join us.

Bobbi ~ you are so creative. When you were describing those mesh washcloths, I was wondering if you could do anything with those mesh bags that oranges come in? Thanks for posting pictures of your project ~ it is fun to see what others are working on.

Robin ~ glad the roads were better by you, so you and Nellie Bell could team up again.

Rosey ~ sending good thoughts for your daughter and her surgery.

Hope you all are having a nice evening.

Take care

I'm finally getting over to JoAnn's fabric shop this morning, it's in a town 20 miles from our town. I hate going out of town in the winter so I procrastinate.

Dee...where do you live that it's 79 degrees?

I posted the recipe for kale because it was on my cp this morning. On yesterday's menu I had the kale you toss in olive oil and sea salt and bake til crispy, I didn't think it was anything special. I'd rather eat it in a salad like the recipe below. Kale is one of those dark, leafy veggie that Dr. Oz recommends and it's very low calorie. Just don't make the mistake of not cutting out the ribs/spine. Those are nasty!

K3...I had to go back and look at the pictures I posted of the mesh bag to see if they looked like DH's undershorts, they do!

Chef John's Raw Kale Salad

Rated:*****

Submitted By: Chef John Servings: 4
"If you slice kale thin and toss it with other tasty treats like apple, orange, and nuts, the kale mellows out and serves as a perfect foil for other vegetation."
INGREDIENTS:
1/4 cup rice vinegar
1 tablespoon orange juice
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon grated orange zest
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1/3 cup olive oil
salt and ground black pepper to taste
1 bunch kale
1 persimmon, sliced
1 apple, cut into matchsticks
2 orange, peeled and cut into segments
(see footnote)
1/4 cup chopped pistachio nuts
DIRECTIONS:
1. Whisk vinegar, orange juice, Dijon mustard, orange zest, cumin, and red pepper flakes together in a bowl. Slowly pour olive oil into the orange juice mixture, whisking until thick and thoroughly combined. Season dressing with salt and black pepper.
2. Remove stems from each leaf of kale. Stack 3 to 4 leaves of kale and roll together. Finely slice kale leaves crosswise to create thin ribbons.
3. Combine sliced kale, persimmon, apple, orange, and pistachio nuts in a bowl. Add dressing and toss until well coated.

Hi Everyone,

Another unsuccessful night. By 2:30, I gave up & took a sleeping pill. Maybe too much to go from 1.5 pain pills + 3 sleeping pills to nothing. I am going to try 1/2 pain pill & 1 sleeping pill tonight & see if that works.

Today's veggies - broccoli, butternut squash, leeks
Today's fruit - pear, raisins, clementine

I just got notice that I teach a class beginning next Tuesday. I REALLY hope that the new system works better this time than it did last time.

Have a great day,

Lynn

It's a quiet day in our neighborhood. I sound like like Mr Rogers! Dh seems ok and I think I'm a little better too. He wants to only go to the gym every other day now so I'm doing that too for now. Our little gs got very sick yesterday..they took him to UC and he had flu with cough, coughed so hard he pulled a muscle, and congestion plus asthma. The congestion caused him to feel dizzy. He's small for his age and he loses even more weight when he's sick so it is a worry for his parents. They texted us to pray. Then our dd called this morning, and she is exhausted, she had to run around to two stores to get his medicine plus the UC and all the stress I'm sure, and then he was so exhausted he fell asleep and has no symptoms at all this morning! He hasn't need one bit of the medicine! PTL

My gastro surgeon called yesterday and said I no longer have diverticulitis, just have the diverticulosis. So he was right and I'm so glad!! I've been adding in a little more fiber each day and now I'm looking forward to eating raw apples and carrots and all kinds of good healthy stuff. This doctor is so funny...he said (in the voicemail) that the diverticula are nicely laid out and he'd love to get his hands on it (that segment of my colon) but he figured I probably wanted to keep it. I had to laugh and thought...Yeah,... keep your hands off my colon!!

Well, I have things to do today and as usual I'm off to a late start. Hope you all have a good day!

Hello gg's. It's finally warming up outside today. There is 80 percent chance of rain tomorrow night. Hopefully not to bad when I leave for the camp. I'm packing again. Dh asked me if I was staying home this weekend because he said I looked tired. I'm going to go and just have some relaxing time. I may not even hunt. I spent a week and a half at the camp with both sons there and lots of company in and out. Just wore me out. Not to mention I'm a lil crabby. I'm having eating junk withdrawals. I'm thinking by this weekend the craving will subside.

Lynn don't give up. Keep trying. I think cutting back little at a time is better than cutting out too much at one time.

Bobbi are you finished with all the house projects?

Deelou a lb is a lb. Great. Keep it up!

Rosey lol that was quiet a nap!! I can never fall asleep with the tv on and nap during the day. In order for me to sleep the house has to be quiet. I can't even sleep until dh comes to bed. That's a bad habit I have and can't break it.

Gayle the trampoline jogging is a way for me to get cardio exercise indoors. It sheds the inches in my legs and hips. Easy on the knees too.
I read often of you and your moms daily talks and I see myself in your shoes lately. My mom keeps forgetting everything we tell her. The last year it's been getting worse. We still have good talks. She just forgets simple things we tell her.

K3 I'm being a good girl!!!!!

Mary sending prayers your way for dh. Hopefully y'all get answers soon.

Canada welcome!! Would love to hear about your travels.

Robin driving on ice is something I've never done. Here in south louisiana we don't get much ice. My cousin and her husband went to their hunting lease in Arkansas a few weeks back and were stranded up in the mountains with deep snow. They couldn't leave for 5 or 6 days.

Gotta run. Be back tomorrow.
Hugs

Lynn - have you tried a cup of hot oatmeal about 1/2 hour before you go to bed?

Hi Donna,

No. I never heard of this. I LOVE oatmeal. OK if I put yogurt on it? Any idea why this would promote sleep?

Lynn ~ from the sleep stand point, I don't know if the yogurt would hamper that. From the diabetes stand point, the diabetes educator said to put some yogurt in the oatmeal and it will help so that the oatmeal alone doesn't make your blood sugar spike up.

Lynn - it's like feeding a baby cereal just before bed... that nice warm tummy makes the babe sleep better! As Gayle said, I don't think the yogurt would hurt at all, especially since it's a protein to offset the carbs (albeit good carbs) in the oatmeal. I hope you can find something that works for you. After my sis died in May, I had terrible sleep disturbances and thought I'd never get back on course... it's the worst!... and so I so much can sympathize and empathize with you!

Good Morning girls
I do my Bible reading 1st thing every morning using the Moody Bible College's daily pamphlet called "Today In The Word". They start out with a modern day story and weave it into the mini sermon for the day. I chuckled today and thought of some of you.

One newspaper reported that in Missouri, it is illegal to drive with an uncaged bear.

Wisconsin state prisons break a law when they serve butter substitutes.

In Idaho, it is illegal to give your sweetheart a box of candy weighing more than 50 pounds.

In Connecticut, you should ignore the impulse to walk across a street on your hands...it's against the law.
Who made these laws?

Glynne...the mesh bags the oranges come in would work if they were stiff enough, good idea.

Rosey...my doc told me to take an allergy pill before bed too, help with waking up with a stuffy nose.

Cajun...nope, still have the bathroom floor to do. We weren't going to replace the mini tiles on the floor but some of them are cracked and it bugs me to no end. Last week I told DH I couldn't live with a cracked tile floor and it has to be replaced. He agreed, we just had a floor guy over yesterday to give us an estimate.

I've been shopping for a bra with no success, brought two back from different stores. Today I'm going to break down and actually try them on at the store....brrr. I hate getting undressed in those tiny little cubicles. Who likes underwire and who doesn't. Anyone found a comfy bra, what brand? Inquiring minds want to know.

My menu from yesterday:
Quote:
Thursday'sMenu

Calories 1,009

Fiber 46 grams

Breakfast: Fiber One , Almond Milk, Chia & Flax seeds
2 slices low calorie toast with SF Black Berry jam

Lunch: 9.4 oz. Sweet & Sour cabbage Soup

Supper: Venison burger on low cal bun, catsup,
California Blend Veggies (DH had cheese sauce on his, I only ate it with my eyes)
Giantic loose lettuce salad with fresh pear and raspberry vinaigrette

Evening snack: Carob Almond pudding, double FF Cool Whip serving
Sunflower seeds & Popcorn

Good morning ladies. Packing for the camp once again. I'm not sure if I'll hunt or not. Thinking about just sitting by the fire with a good book. A few of the camps around us had broken water pipes from the freeze. We turned water off so dh went early to check that out.
I was going to the store last night and had grabbed my keys and put them in my pocket. Went into the laundry room to talk to dh. All if a sudden the house alarm went off. Confused I went up the keypad and disarmed it. Couldn't understand what door or window was open. It usually tells me which one. It said something I totally didn't understand. Finally got it disarmed and my phone rang. It was the alarm company saying that they were responding to a panic signal. Somehow the keypad got pressed in my pocket. I remember my hands in my pocket holding my keys. Then she needed my password. I was fumbling trying to remember it. Gave a couple guesses until finally getting it right. She then told me she would cancel the cops. I've been having this alarm since October and had never made the alarm go off. Felt pretty stupid.
Just cooked 5 lbs of fresh green beans to bring to the camp. Dh is cooking tonight for our camping buddies. I made a apple caramel cream cheese pie. Oh gosh help me. The supper is at my camp but I plan on sending the leftovers to our friends camp. Or maybe they will eat it all.

Out of time today. Hi to all!! Have a good weekend!
Hugs
