Hi everyone. another beautiful day here sunny and warm.spent the morning doing my dd laundry.they dont have a washer and dryer where they are at and going to a laundromat is expensive and you never know who or what was in those machines ewww icky. i dont mind i like doing laundry lol. tomorrow we are headed to anchorage to see my grandson graduate. im so proud of him and the man hes become. we will be back wed. i'm thinking id like to do that chopped challenge with my dd's sounds like such fun. Hoping your day is filled with sunshine rosey
Hi Rosey,
It was a LOT of fun. My DD & SIL selected my ingredients; I & my DD selected my SIL's ingredients; and my SIL and I selected my DD's ingredients.
We then each had 1 hour to make our course & whoever cooked had to clean up.
Been busy last couple days and tired later in the day so that's why I haven't posted. Had a lovely Mother's Day and felt very pampered as my dh gave me a corsage and after church we went to our dd's house. My sil had flowers and a $50 GC for me to my surprise! Our dd served a great dinner and we celebrated not only Mother's Day but her birthday which was actually today but her dh had to go out of town today. On the way home we stopped and visited an old friend in the hospital. Today we met our (and gc) at a restaurant for her birthday lunch. We had a nice time. Afterwards we went to the bx for a few things and planned to get my military ID as I lost it with the wallet I mentioned losing?/misplacing? a while back. Had to get a new SS card too. Anyway the office was no longer on base as the city has moved some of the military offices to a different site so we had to find the right place which happens to be not far from where we lived but we didn't know that. So we did a lot of running around and it was hot. Thank God our new car has AC but it was still tiring. By the time we were done there I was exhausted. I didn't get much housework done...cleaned bathrooms a little bit and stripped bed and did two loads of laundry...that's it. Still have to remake the bed and finish one load of laundry. Since we had a big meal at lunch we just snacked tonight. Hopefully I will manage to empty/fill the dishwasher before bed. Not sure the way I'm feeling.
On Sat I called tech support about the color fading in and out on my computer. Wasn't sure if it was a monitor problem or computer problem but it's been happening since about three or four months after I got the computer. Unfortunately I didn't keep after them about it. I called a couple times, thought they got it fixed and then shortly after it messed up again and I just lived with it. Now I am out of warranty. In the process of troubleshooting we shut down the computer and it wouldn't restart! They called Dell and they think it is the motherboard. So I had to pay $200 for the motherboard and I'm waiting for it to arrive, they said 3-5 days. I'm glad I have my iPad and phone but I sure miss my desktop! They think the motherboard was going out and it as affecting the color and the printer (it stopped working a couple days ago too). So that's why my sil gave me the Best Buy GC to help me pay for the GeekSquad installing it.
What a nice sil I have!
Lynn - Your Chopped Challenge sounds like fun!
Isabella - I'm amazed how well you did guess how the ingredients were used!
Rosey - How nice you got flowers too! You are a good mommy to help your dd by doing her laundry. I kind of enjoy doing laundry too, esp the folding of nice clean, warm clothes! Yes I can imagine you tire more using the cane. Hopefully you will build up your strength in time. Just do it for short times, very gradually increasing as you can, but rest between and don't overdo is my advice.
Marie - Your energy amazes me. I don't have nearly your energy. I realize I'm quite a bit older than you but sometimes I think I wear our faster than my dh who is eight years older than I even.
Well I need to get the bed remade before I forget and it's time for bed. You all have a good evening. I plan to sleep very good tonight.
Good Morning...what a beautiful day in Minnesota.
Today our taxes are due and we won't have the complete amount until tomorrow when Social Security check comes. I called to see if they had a grace period, Nope. She said to take it to the post office today and make sure it's stamped the 15th and I'll be okay. I'm not sure how banking works, if the check gets cashed tomorrow before the social security gets wired into our account, will I still be safe? Our Visa bill came yesterday and would you believe it was only $136.59? Geeeeeeeeez, what a difference from last months of $1968.59. I think paying cash for everything gave us a huge wake up call.
Lynn...I love the chopped idea, do you watch the chopped programs on tv? How did you come up with the idea to compete and is this going to be a monthly challenge? I wish my family could do something like that, but everyone is busy working. (I'm the only one that retired early)
Marie...things went well, thanks for asking. (wicked witch MIL) I thought she was going to bite my head off when I went in to get her. She was just getting off the toilet, pulled her dress down, then started walking out the door. I said you forgot to wash your hands. She said quite loudly, WHAT? I repeated the hand washing bit and she said oh, I thought you told me to take a shower. I don't like her ever touching me because she always forgets to wash her hands. Before she was diagnosed with dementia, she wouldn't have dreamed of not washing her hands after using the bathroom. I think I'd rather died of some dreaded disease than lose my memory.
Mary...sorry about your computer, but what would we do without them. I sure couldn't afford a new one a few months ago when mine crashed but I think I'd go without food first.
Rosey...enjoy yourself today, will you have to climb bleachers for the graduation? Those are hard for me to climb unless they have a hand rail.
Isabella...I heard again on the news one of the top names for new babies...Isabella. How vogue you are.
I'm out of time and need to stop back later to gab. At 9:00 I listen to Dr. Jeremiah 25 minute sermon while I paint on my face and do my hair. I need to get a quick load of clothes in the washer first...........later gators.
K3...all my myer lemons have fallen off but one. I finally put the whole plant outside, I don't think it was getting it's 6 hours required sunshine.

It sounds like everyone had a nice Mother's Day. Mine was nice. Both step children came and gave me a card and gift. It's nice that they do that. Their mother passed away 20 years ago, and I did raise them from preteen age. I didn't serve dinner, but had meatball sandwiches and potato salad and they ate when they felt hungry. Not a big deal.
Bobbi - I think SS checks are entered at the opening of the business day so you should be ok.
It's a beautiful day here too Bobbi. Sunny and not too cold. It got pretty warm yesterday and then turned cooler in the evening. I had a tract meet to go to and then a soccer game. I wore long pants and looked kind of out of place for the tract meet, but sure felt good at the soccer game. Mother day was nice. The kids came over and we went to the park and played ball and then went for ice cream. I had frozen yogurt, a small cone. Not bad. I also bought myself some cheap chocolates, Just he boxed morley creams. I love them and they are not toobad calorie wise. I have one a day. It's perfect with my cup of tea in the adternoon. I look forward to it and it soothes my craving for chocolate.
Rosie, Have fun at your GS's graduation. They grow so fast. One min the are little boys and the next min. they are grown.
Bobbi, Glad you got a handle on the finances thing. Is DH still behaving himself? I think if you call the bank you can request that they put the money into your account right away. Otherwise, I think it takes 3 days, which will still give you plenty of time. Your check isn't going to be deposited for awhile.
Marie, going for my first bike ride of the season today, with my DGD. Looking forward to it. It will NOT be 35 miles! ha! Not sure I could manage that. No, not right. I know I couldn't manage that, and I haven't had surgery.
Lynn, The chopped sounds like fun. But hotdogs? They just don't go with much and had to be a real challenge.
Mary, Glad you had fun with your kids for Mothers day.
Mary, big bummer on your computer! I'm glad you have the GC for the motherboard installation. I don't like doing that type of stuff. I make DH do it (since he went to school for computer repair and we had to pay for something he didn't like and decided not to make a career of). When push comes to shove, I do it but I'd rather he do it. At some point I figure we'll break even on the school cost.
Bobbi, way to go on the lowered VISA bill. All banks process deposits and withdrawals differently. I had a credit union that chose to take out the withdrawals on a day first, then the deposits. That was a nasty practice. I now have BoA and they always put the deposits in first, then the withdrawals. So call your bank. And if your SS check is direct deposited, you really should be fine.
Freda, enjoy your bike ride today. I bet you have fun. Just no sandals on the bike. I bet you have a great time with your DGD!
Lynn, enjoy your museum visit tomorrow. I'm not a museum person as I look then want to go. I've never been able to stand and admire for any length of time. Mostly because I'm very visual and sort of take a snapshot of what I see and I can keep seeing it.
No big plans for my day. It is sunny and beautiful. We're now having the most lovely spring. Last year we couldn't swim in our pool until June 30th because of La Nina. This year, I've been swimming 3 times and the water is 84 degrees. It is wonderful. So after my elliptical workout this afternoon (after the dentist - yuck) I'm going to gork in the pool.

Freda
Freda - I am wondering about your comment above that the check takes 3 days. I think Bobbi is talking about direct deposit of a social security check and that goes into your account at the start of business the day it is transferred. There is no 3 day wait. it's not the same as a check that you deposit. If this wasn't what you were referring to then I apoligize for butting in.
Hello Gals. Just got our satellite tv installed today and I'm not sure I like it. But now it's in it's staying. I guess it's just a matter of getting used to the different screen display and remote control. I haven't figured out how to use the volume button yet and have been adjusting using the volume on the tv. DSs will be here the weekend and I may just wait until then or maybe I'll read the manual. We have the cheapest package and that doesn't give us much to watch but DH usually sticks to a couple of channels, except when he's channel surfing (which drives me crazy). I don't have the food network or TLC or any of the movie channels. I guess I'll be more productive with my time.
Marie, swimming is definitely is not on the plan around here, burrrr.... It won't be warm enough until sometime in the middle of June or early July unless you're a brave sort of polar bear swimmer.
Oh my, I just hit the wrong button and posted, lol. I'm in edit finishing this post.
Bobbi, Isabella was my grandmother's name and her grandmother's name so guess what I may have to insist my first granddaughter be named? LOL I may not have much say on that one.
Now, I'm relying on memory and I'm drawing a blank even though I just read all the posts just a few minutes ago...think, think, think, think, think...nothing...
I remember Mary, Lynn,Freda and Rosey posted also but I'm drawing a blank on anyone else or what was said. Oh, yes, Mary needs a new mother board and had a nice mother's day and so did Carol Sue. I guess so did the rest of you. No one will ever accuse me of having a photographic memory!
The sun is shining and it's almost warm. The grass is green and the leaves are starting to burst forth. It's the best time of the year. I love that spring green.
Well, I'm gone to recover my memory. Have a good day.

Hi Marie,
I love going to museums, but I do NOT like to take a lot of time at one thing. My family teases me because I go through them so quickly.
I don't really know a lot about art, so I really like it when someone who does explains things to me.
I am NOT at all visual - totally auditory. I could NEVER be one of those persons who works with a police artist. I would recognize a voice in a minute, but not a photo.
Just got back from visiting DS in D.C. last night. Had a great time but I got so sad when we were leaving. Better now - getting busy helps and increasing the meds too - I'm not kidding! I have to get caught up on the posts but when I saw that Marie had exercise cramping I wanted to get back to her right away. When I first bought coconut water I found it in health food stores and Whole Foods. This was almost a year ago. Now I have seen it in a few grocery stores and Walgreens, I think. They are starting to put it in some sports drinks. My husband drinks 5 or 6 ounces before strenuous exercise and about the same amount afterwards. I don't remember the exact comparison but it supposedly has more potassium than 5 bananas? not sure how many but more than you would want to eat. He is not one to take pills or vitamins so I don't know if a pill form of potassium would be as effective. Hope it helps.
I'll be back later.
Quick hola....
You're not abandoned! It just seems that there's less time or more to do or something!... anyway, I'm here. You all sound upright and at least fairly functional, which is good!
Good Morning, never did get back yesterday to gab. I spent a few hours outside weeding. I haven't purchased any annual flowers yet this year, will do later today. We have a city wide rummage sale on Saturday. DH and I are bringing our left-over rummage sale stuff into town and set up in the park. Hope the weather is nice, suppose to be rainy. Carol Sue, right you are. It was a direct deposit of DH's social security check. I logged unto my bank this morning and it's already deposited. We're safe!

I can't remember who asked about DH's behavior about the budget. Every time I got the chance, I hammered into his brain about how broke we were. Finally he got tired of hearing it...........I think he's got it. He put a nice rifle up for sale in one of the hunting magazines. It's from the 40's and never been shot, tags still on it. (He's hoping for $1,000 for it) Our budgeting will get much easier from now on, it was hard trying to pay everything with cash , paying the property taxes, license plates and then our 6 months worth of car insurance. Had to pay the whole 6 months to get a better deal. The big bills that arrived once or twice a year I divided by months and will deduct that amount monthly from the checking account. I won't write the check, just deduct it. Then when the property taxes are due again in October, the money will be in my account, same for the 6 month car insurance, license plates, etc. I have the online checking account program and it'll be easy to go back and delete all the deductions and write out one check.
I left a large venison roast out on the counter to thaw out last night, was going to refrigerate it at bedtime. I forgot about it, DH stuck it in the refrig at 6 this morning. He said to cook it well and we should be okay. Geeeeeeeeeeez, I don't know if I dare eat it, would it be a terrible thing if I let him eat it first? If he doesn't double over with stomach cramps, I'll try some. It was a large roast and frozen, it might not have been thawed out all that long. Time will tell, until then.............
Bobbi - your roast should be okay to eat. It doesn't sound like it was out that long... and it's a good idea to let DH try it first. Check on his life insurance first, though! (LOL?) (ha!)
Doing laundry and other domestic drudgery. NO TIME anymore! I don't know what's happened!
Sabrino seems to have disappeared. CK - your SIL's stray cat with the missing tail (seems to be a connection here) also disappeared, remember? Probably they ARE the same cat...

Bobbi - I would not be as disciplined as you are, deducting part of the bill each month so the money will be in the account. I (and dh) would know that the money was actually in the account even though the checkbook balance didn't show it. Instead, I have a savings account connected to my checking account. I can go to the ATM and transfer money back and forth. If I want to set money aside for something, each month I transfer part of the money into savings and when it comes time to pay the bill, transfer it back into checking. It's the same concept, and we do know the money is there, but not seeing it in the checking account balance when we go to the ATM makes it easier to forget it's there.
Deelee and Marie - Be careful about taking potassium or something that is supplemented with potassium. Be sure the cramping you're having is from lack of potassium, because if not, too much potassium can be harmful.
Maryea - I am sorry to hear that you're having trouble with your computer, especially since you had trouble from the beginning and wasn't able to get it fixed during the warranty period. We are having problems with our computer but DH doesn't trust computer techs. (Sorry Marie! LOL) He always says it's better to just buy a new computer. He's saying the same thing about our car. It's having a problem and he wants to just get a new one. He thinks we have an ATM in our backyard. Just put your card in, and money comes out! LOL
