I'm just going to post yesterday's eats and exercise and then come back later to chat. It's a blustery winter day here and DH is on the road with a bus load of kids going to a movie so he won't be home for dinner (lunch) today. Thankfully, not much snow is expected--just a few centimetres.

Quote:
Breakfast: 1 slice ww bread with peanut butter, 1/2 banana, 1 clementine

Dinner: Carrot Onion Quiche, a few fried potatoes, tossed salad with dressing, 1 bite of cookie

Supper: Carrot Onion Quiche, 2 huge strawberries

Exercise: 12 km on bike

I'm being lazy today, maybe will sew a bit. DH is busy scooping all the old bird seed off the deck from last winter, then he'll put another coat of sealer on it. He called me out to show me the dafadils flowering. Doesn't look like I'll get many flowers on this one. The barrel of Red Twigged Dogwood are some of the branches I cut off our bushes. They turned red in the fall and are very pretty against white snow in the winter, not that we had much this year.
Rosey...I see cabbage rolls on your menu, we love them. I just purchased some cabbage, maybe I'll make them soon.
Isabella...do you use egg beaters or some kind of egg replacement in your quiche? I like to keep it on hand, less calories than a whole egg.
Rie...I did eat a piece of upside down pineapple cake yesterday but it didn't hurt my calorie allowance. My lunches are so low in calories that a piece didn't make a difference. This morning I stuck the whole thing in the frig so it doesn't get moldy before DH can eat it. I wonder if I can freeze part of it?
Mary...I think that's a great idea, buying DH a ladder for b'day. You know he's going to climb up there anyway, he might as well have a good ladder.
Quote:
I still have trouble keeping him off ladders though. Just today I looked out and he was up on a ladder measuring the wood along the roof as we are getting it replaced due to rot. He finally consented to hiring someone to do the work but he just had to do the measuring himself. I can't even convince him to buy a better, more stable ladder! Maybe I will suprise him with one for his birthday next month..
Gayle...I thought you were swimming for exercise?
Lynn...we're survivor fans and I was sorry to see ? (mental block) go home. He stirred up so much trouble and kept it interesting.
KarenFla...I doubt we'll get lemons the size of grapefruit, it a dwarf plant and no way could the skinny branches hold them. Maybe after it grow a larger trunk?
Donna...You're probably right. I shut my window last night so I wouldn't wake up with one.
Quote:
Bobbi – my theory about your headaches that they appear only to keep you on your toes, that there’s no other rhyme or reason.

Dee...I don't play bridge online, actually I haven't played the game in years. Nobody I knew played the game except a neighbor who had me sub one time. I lost interest. I'm actually a better 500 player, DH and I were in a couple of card club. We gave that up too because I hate getting out at night in the winter and DH agreed. I do play 500 online and that's a blast!
I just finished watching a big deer run across the field in front of us with 2 big pit bull mixes chasing it. They didn't catch it, thank goodness. Gotta go, I can't remember who else has posted, catch ya tomorrow.

Rosey...forgot to ask you something about the Philadelphia Indulgence Dark Chocolate. I've looked at it a couple of times and never bought it until yesterday. What do you do with it? I googled Kraft dessert recipes and they had a chocolate peanut butter pie you can make. I think we could bring the calories down by using fat free cream cheese and PB2 peanutbutter. BUT, that's more temptation then I can handle. How are you using it?

Carol Sue, I have climbed onto the roof a few times in recent years to help DH with the pool’s solar panels. But once, when he was on a temp assignment and I was in charge of all the house stuff, there was a leak in the solar panel that had to be fixed. It looked like a fountain on my roof and was wasting loads of water. So I had to climb on the roof, with all the tools to repair it, and I fixed it. I was so proud. Then a neighbor/co-worker said to call him if anything else broke while DH was away. Didn’t need to but I admit I was so proud of facing my fear and climbing up there. But I’m still scared of it and won’t do it again. No Marie splat. My epilator is the Emjoi 72 tweezer. It is quick and less painful than my first one, the Braun Silk-Epil (that has battery dying problems). The Emjoi does the hair quicker but isn’t as good with the tiny blond hairs so I use the Braun after I’m done for a quick second overall. The Braun did a good job but was way slower and it has it’s battery problem.

Deelee, my DH has no sense of fear (except when following me on skis ) and thinks he’s still 12. Love your “forgot everything” – that’s the way I am when I’m doing it from memory.

Rosey, Gizmo is in my and my pack’s thoughts. I hope he recovers quickly and without any damage. His kennel is his comforter so its good he’s sacked in there. AND OMG!!!! Using a cane instead of a walker is so amazing. I’m so proud of you!!!!!

Isabella, I hope today you feel more energized than yesterday. I’m doing ok. Just a normal dumb cold. It’s progressing at its normal, snail like pace. Way to go riding your bike even though you weren’t chipper.

Rie, I know WY isn’t a very populated state but truly I know they have more than 14 people so WY can’t be there (in MT). Stay strong with the work goodies. You did great yesterday! I’d have eaten them. Brownies (a love for sure) I can ignore but cookies are my demons. Chocolate chip and Ms are my fave. I’d have face planted onto the cookie tray.

Brenda, many coming your way for you and your friend. I hope she recovers. I’m very thankful you are recovering nicely from your fusion.

Freda, at your STOP. I did and am still having a tiny, tiny amount of bleeding. I may even call the dr. But then, maybe not. I turned on my cell to call then turned it back off. I hate medical stuff.

Donna, I haven’t heard from my parents and my dad’s appt at Mayo isn’t until April 16th so I won’t know more before then. He says he is feeling all right and my mom is being a witch with a B and not being supportive. OK, she’s being fake supportive with multiple zingers thrown in for good measure. If I could figure out when she’s gone out, I’d call my dad then. But she’s always there and on the line. BTW, your work computer might have a better internet connection (DSL, cable, fiber, etc) than your house. The age of the computer wouldn’t affect that. I love that GM was showing off her edema. I do think I’d like her. I truly like my mom (except at the way she’s treating my dad at the moment) as she’s a force to be reckoned with too. I'm quite partial to strong women. But I bet you could guess that.

Bobbi, I’m thinking Amazon is my next site visit to look for a Myer’s lemon tree. And an miniature orange tree as orange blossoms are my favorite smell in the world. Since KarenFL says the Myers ones are even better, I will need both. Better than chocolate even. Perhaps not better than dog breath… DH will be mad if I buy more plants as I have no more room. My coffee plantation took up a lot of room. He gagged when he read the instruction sheet that came with the Kona coffee bean plants and said the plants get up to 30’ high. I thought it was funny. BTW, those are beautiful plants and I got them from amazon. For cheap even. My 13 pots of basil also take up a bit of my window space. Oh and the lavender plants I started from seed. I'm a maniac with indoor plants.

KarenFL, no asthmatic level at all with the cold so far. It’s still in my head and hasn’t moved to my chest. That’s when I get hit with the asthma and why I mentioned it typically is a week after the cold’s onset. I’m taking loads of antihistamines so the allergies don’t make it worse. I appreciate so very very much your good thought. With your new hearing aid I betcha you can hear my thanks across the country.

Mary, on the frustrating dr appt you had. I am proud of you for standing up against trying another diet program that won’t work long-term for you. You do know what you need to do and I have faith you will. Way more faith than your inconsiderate dr. OK, maybe he was having a bad day but to brush you off makes me want to take Rosey’s rolling pin after him.

OK, I got distracted at Amazon after looking up for Carol Sue the epilators I have. BTW Carol Sue, that’s where I bought the Emjoi. Anyway, a Myer Lemon tree shipped is really expensive. I will need to broaden my search for more than Amazon since there were no free shipping ones. Back to reading 3FC…

Gayle, I’m proud of you for finding a way to make yourself walk. I’d say you were my friend if you were pushing an empty stroller. Perhaps you could put a doggie in it.

Wow, miss one day of posting and it takes long to finish with our chatty thread. I so like it this way. Like others have mentioned, I’ve been on threads that just wilt and die. No way that will happen here. Yesterday I worked a bit from home (and again this morning). Then I worked on the quilt. Wednesday and yesterday I finished the appliques and today I will stitch the panels together. I can sew for a little bit, then I have to come back to my couch with my feet up. I had a game yesterday, stitch an applique, then watch an Ally McBeal episode. Stitch and applique, then watch another episode. This afternoon it will be stitch some panels together, watch an episode. At least it breaks up my boredom.

KarenFL and Bobbi, while I stitched the appliques, I’d listen to A Good Dog. I finished it this morning. I admit it took me a bit to get hooked into the book because I so much did not like Adam but I loved how the author paralleled the dog’s journey with the man’s journey. Amazingly good book.

And Rie, it was my sister’s birthday this week and I sent her the hard-cover Art of Racing in the Rain (and the Lorax to read to her baby grandchild). I told her the book was recommended to me and that it was a GREAT BOOK. See how your recommendation just ripples across the water (country)? Cool, huh?

Hi Everyone,

Class is going smoothly so far.

Going to lunch (Panera's) with my DD & SIL.

Another beautiful day here. I am making creamy peanut butter noodles with sesame and veggies for dinner. More and more, when I cook for myself, I make vegetarian meals.

Hi GG's,

It has gotten a little cooler here, but still beautiful. Did some more cleaning, got another bedroom cleaned, all the bedding hanging outside ,including the pillows, to dry and air out. I don't know how to do anything halfway, It's either full force or nothing. When this stops, I will just wilt and do nothing fro awhile.

Rosie, I hope gismo feels better soon. Poor baby, hugs to him. When you said he was embarassed for making a mess it brought back how my Last baby would look at me with those big eyes. He felt so bad and I felt so bad for him. I'm making cabbage rolls for dinner today, sounds like you started soemthing. Congrats on the progress you've made. By the end of summer you will be walking so much better. Can't wait to hear your progress.

Lynn, We have vegiterian meals several times a week. Just because we enjoy them. I should make an effort to maybe go even more often. Must better for you and for the planet.

Marie, I'll never have to worry about my husband climbing on the house. He hates heights and gets dizzie on the second rung. Glad you listened and started taking it easyier! LOL, I know it was my advice you took. Did you find a source that sold Meyer lemon trees? I found one and didn't think they were too expensive. Let me know, I'm for sure getting one.

Gayle, We all get busy and can't do personals, but you know we want to hear from you. So if you just have time to drop in and say Hi, that's fine. You know we worry.

Rie, I know you're busy with all the company you got. Hope things are going well and you're teaching them some valuable lessons. Good job on saying no to those cookies. I could have said no to those too, but some things are harder to stay away from. Hope no one brought in anything that took your will power.

Mary, I think we all hate going to the Dr.'s. I'm not crazy out the diets either, they don't teach you a thing about how to eat. But they can be a tool to help you get started. I guess like slim fast.

Brenda, So sorry to hear about your friend. Sounds like she has had a good life. Takes a fighter to get that far.

Karenfl, When my grandpa got his hearing aid (after being HOH for years) he would only turn it on occasionally, when he wanted to find out what was going on. The rest of the time he used it as an excuse.

Donna, when is GM Dr. appointment? Hoping that everything goes well. she sounds like my mom...when she's in the Dr.'s office she tells everyone he symptoms. Or she will tell strangers at wallmart, anyone who will listen.

It is a nice sunny day here although the air is still cool unless you are really moving. I woke up with the light (not really sun then) shining in which made it easier to get up. I also had woke up from a really bad dream in which I had been called back to work. They called me in late, but I had gotten the first pass of meds done, and now was about to do a treatment for some open sores on a lady. I couldn't find the supplies...it was terrible...I knew my time was getting away from me and here I was stuck in the treatment room trying to find stuff! I ask another nurse for help and she told me where to look but she was busy too and ran off. And I was afraid of forgetting something and I kept checking and rechecking everything when I did find it. The supplies did not even seem to be in very good shape and I was thinking the place had really declined. I'm sure that's not true, it was just a dream but it seemed so real. I looked at my watch and it was 3 pm and I realized I had not done the noon med pass! And I still had treatments and charting to do. I was falling apart mentally. Finally I went to the DNS and told her I had to leave. I remember some shifts that were pretty bad but not as bad as my dream, thank goodness. Sheesh, that might actually happen if I had to go back to work now as my brain doesn't work nearly as well anymore! Thank God, I'm retired!!

Lynn - You have such a nice busy life full of interesting events. Panera is nice for lunch..have a good one!

Marie - Brave you going up on the roof!! No one would get me up there! I know that good feeling when you accomplish something you usually don't do. I used to have to occasionally fix a leaking faucet or something when dh was TDY and I felt so good when I got it done. I cherish a memory of one of my teenage son's and I working together on a faucet..me in the tub and he sitting outside giving advice and extra muscle when needed. So when you have to to you get it done one way or another I guess. I never consider myself very good at such things but my youngest dd is the "handyman" in her home. One year after she left home she asked for and received a tool box for Christmas.

Slmn - I don't how it would have been if I'd been holding the ladder. It was a 10 ft ladder and he was about 3/4 of the way up trimming a big evergreen tree. One of the huge tree limbs came down the wrong way...it swooped down toward the lower part of the ladder and caused it to tip. Those limbs are large and I'm not sure I could have stopped it from happening. I think he would have still jumped. He landed on both feet but the driveway was roughed up there due to the big tree roots going under it, dh had smoothed it out best he could but I think he landed there and slipped. I suspect now that his femur bone was osteopenic as after the accident they did a bone density test and found he has osteopenia in his other leg and back. They can't test that leg now because he has a steel rod in it. He has recuperated pretty well and is still active but is not the same as he used to be. I can tell he is not as stable on his feet, I think he occasionally has a little mild pain. He doesn't like to stand very long. He's not one to complain but he does occasionally tell me it's stiff or kinda aches. Mostly he tells me he is just tires so easily and will come in saying he is just SO tired. But then he is 77 so maybe some is just age, I don't know but it's all happened since the accident. The accident happened two years ago come June. He's always been so active...whatever needed to be done..he was the one to do it. Even the neighbors called him for help. He could work harder than many younger men. So it's hard to see these changes.

From what the nurse said, we will be injected AND have to walk on a treadmill. Does it feel like a rush or does it make you wierd mentally? I am sensitive mentally to some drugs but have had dye injected without any problem in the past. In the hospital I got too much morphine and later demerol and was hallucinating strange things...funny thing normally if I saw what I saw then, I'd probably feel scared..but I wasn't really scared under the influence of the drug...once I was very upset and crying after awaking from a really bad dream I thought was real, but mostly I was very calm and just thought it was strange.... but because of those experiences I hate taking drugs anymore!

Rie - I have to admit those brownies sound awfully good...but for your sake, I hope they are not there ...there are always enough temptations around, aren't there?!

Need to get off here and get some things done today..you all have a good day. Hi to everyone I missed!

Ladysheets, so sorry to hear about your friend. Good news, though about your fusion.

Freda, I admire your energy with your spring cleaning. It's too early here to get too enthused about cleaning as I can't hang anything out yet, although some people do all winter--not me.

Deelee, I'd have used the chips to scoop up the egg salad, lol. You did well to avoid the chips.

Donna
, if your roof is not leaking, your foundation not rotting and your windows are airtight, I wouldn't worry about updating unless you really can afford it. Just think of the house as a charming last century home. My mom loved to tell everyone she met that she had Parkinson's Disease. It was like a badge of honor, lol.

Rosey, Yeah, you're going to be soon able to walk across country with us. So good to hear of your progress. Poor little Gizmo--hope he's feeling better by tonight.

Karen3, glad you are hearing so well.

Mary, I've given up on diets and just try to control my portions and calorie count when I think I'm going overboard. I'm also trying to have only one dessert a week. I'm like you. I know what to do, but I don't always do it. About the doctor, I guess they have you penciled in for your 10 or 15 minutes and that's all they'll give you unless it's a real emergency. Where's Dr. Welby when you need him? I wish we had a queen bed. We have a really small bedroom so we've always had a double.

Lynn, sounds like you had a very nice day with your friend. Please tell us how you make the creamy peanut butter noodles. They sound good.

Gayle, don't you ever feel guilty about not getting in personals. We all can't do that everyday, especially how fast this thread moves. You miss a day or two and there's about 1000 posts to catch up on, lol. Walking with the stroller is something I'd do. I walked up and down my street one year I had mom with me. The neighbours must have thought I was Joshua walking around Jericho. Hope you have a good weekend.

Rie, that coffee cake sounds lovely. You should post a picture of the "work of art" so we can all see it. And maybe the recipe would be nice to have as well. Food flavours don't bother me either. I love those candles that smell like cookies, etc, although I hardly ever light a candle. But when I'm in a store that sells them I'm sniffing at all the candles and passing them to my friend to have a sniff. LOL. I'd be happy to wear a little vanilla or almond extract behind my ears instead of perfume.

Bobbi
, I usually make the quiche with eggs or some whole eggs and egg white. I always have a carton of egg white in the frig (for making Swiss buttercream frosting). I used 2 eggs and 1 egg white in this particular one yesterday and I usually use skim milk. It would be just as good with egg beaters, though.

Marie, I used to be a ladder climber in my younger years. My mother found me sitting on the edge of the roof of our two story house when I was 3 years old. She said she nearly died she was so frightened. She managed to get me down and I haven't done much climbing since. I'd be proud if I'd fixed that panel. I feel great if I change a light bulb in the ceiling fixture, lol.

I had a much better day today--not tired and the back is getting better. It's still not totally good but I was able to sweep and mop floors today without much discomfort. We're still waiting for the molding to get delivered to the store so the kitchen is on hold for another few days.

Here's my eats and exercise for today:

Quote:
Breakfast: Oatmeal with flax, bran & wheat germ, brown sugar, blueberries, strawberries & skim milk, 1 orange

Dinner: 1 jumbo veggie wiener, 1 slice ww bread with green relish and mustard, small tossed salad with mayo, 1 small slice bread with margarine and dulce de leche

Supper: bowl of air popped popcorn, fruit smoothie (pineapple, strawberries, kiwi, blueberries, prune juice)

Exercise: 12.52 km on bike

Creamy peanut butter noodles & veggies

1/2 cup low-sodium vegetable stock
3 Tbs smooth peanut butter
2 Tbs rice wine vinegar
2 Tbs low-sodium soy sauce
1/4 tsp red-pepper flakes
12 oz no-yolk medium egg noodles *I use whole wheat noodles instead*
3 tsp sesame oil, divided
1 cup chopped scallions
1 Tbs grated fresh ginger
2 cups thinly sliced carrots
1 cup snow peas
1 cup thinly sliced mushrooms
1 cup water
1 Tbs toasted sesame seeds

1. In a small bowl, combine the stock, peanut butter, vinega, soy sauce, and
pepper flakes; set aside.
2. In a large pot of boiling water, cook noodles until tender. Drain and keep
warm.
3. Meanwhile, in a large no-stick pan over medium heat, warm 2 tsp of the oil.
Add the scallions and ginger; cook, stirring frequently, for 2 minutes. Add the
carrots and snow peas; cook, stirring constantly for 4 minutes. Stir in the
mushrooms and water; cook for 2 minutes or until veggies are tender.
4. Place noodles in a large serving bowl. Toss with the remaining 1 tsp of oil.
Add the veggies, peanut butter sauce and sesame seeds; toss to mix well.

Lynn, I’m glad the class is going well. Does U of Phoenix have a spring break?

Freda, I did call my drs office and I’m just to keep doing nothing. They told me how much blood would be concerning and we’re not close to that. Aren’t you impressed I actually called? My DH is. And he wasn’t thrilled that I bought 2 Meyer lemon trees, 2 orange trees and one banana tree. All dwarf patio plants. He said he’ll need to build a sunroom. Me: “You say that after every new plant and I still don’t have a sunroom. Start building.” BTW, I’d say you’re snowballing. I do that with cleaning. One clean area makes the others look bad.

Mary, my sister is the handy-person in her family. Her DH is blind so he’s not overly helpful with that stuff. But he wasn’t before his vision loss. She has loads of tools and does a great job.

Isabella, Swiss Buttercream Frosting??? Is it a decorator icing??? Can you post the recipe. I lost my favorite decorating icing recipe. I searched the internet and couldn’t find it. The tiny cake decorating shop in the town I used to live in gave it to me and I’ve never seen anything like it. I remember boiling sugar and water for about 10 minutes. Then there was the Wilton egg whites beat stiff and shortening. Have almond and vanilla extract. But the measurements, I have no idea. But I like buttercream with real butter and cream. Yummy. That other recipe made the best decorations though.

I haven’t always been afraid of the roof – maybe I’m not afraid of roofs, just the ladder and climbing off of it onto the roof (and then back on). When I was college freshman, my brother and I had a margarita summer and started jumping off the roof into my parents’ pool. There was an alcohol haze and a devil may care attitude since it was the summer of my mother’s bout with craziness. Both my brother and I have pools and would string our kids up by their toes if they jumped off the roof into it. But we do have fond memories of our own daring. Thing is, I was able to climb out my bedroom window to get on the roof, no ladder. I’d never been on the second story roof. Eeks that would have been too high.

Hi Ciecie!

My hummingbirds aren’t bright. I’ve woken to snow three mornings in a row. But the feeders are going down like its summer. I just made them more food. That’s my sign that spring will someday arrive in the High Mountain Desert.

Good evening GG's,

I was looking forward to coming here and visiting this evening after work, and wanted to do the personals, but it did not happen that way. Got out 3 hours late again. Grrrrr.

So, I did not get the personals done, too tired to do my walk. Oh well, tomorrow is another day.

Hope you all rest well.

Night night
