We started out with sun and warm weather and it's turned into rain and Thunder storm warnings. Some of the neighborhoods around are without power, but we are still ok. So much of this going around this year. I worked this weekend and did quite well. After working I tend to eat from stress, but I managed to "talk myself down". Did that sound like a drug addict? Sometimes I feel like it's simular. At least with drugs you can go cold turkey and quit. Can't do that with food. I fight it all the time. Most of the time I win.
Gayle, I've kept the kids since they were born, so they are pretty comfortable here. They both have their own rooms. One good thing about living so close. I know that is a blessing and I thank God all the time. I'm sure you had fun with Maddie and she will get used to staying over. I like the idea about making sure that she doesn't have a nap during the day. Although our DGK's were never much for naps. I used to envy people who's kids took naps.
Z, Glad to see you back. I'm sure you were a blessing for your sister. Shame on her daughter. Some kids can be eased out of the nest, other have to be kicked out, fly or sink. As for taking pictures at funerals, I'm afraid that is southern. It does seem that older people still do it more, the younger generations find it a little weird I guess. But my family has lots of pictures of ancestors in their caskets. I agree, goulish. Wonder why they waited untill they died?
Karen, Stay safe.
Donna, I like your idea that old age is going to be an adventure. Sad to say' i've just been thinking challenge! I suppose it can be both though, don't ya think?
Nancy, I like the outfits too. You're looking good. About flirting.....the last time someone flirted with me I didn't have a clue. I think because he was younger and I just couldn't see it. A friend was kidding me about it later. dumb huh? or just over the hill
Rie, Congratulations! Now, what does that mean? You're going to be judging tournaments? You get paid, right? Nice!
OK, who was talking about eating at buffets? I don't! I can't trust myself and I always over do. I want to taste everything. If I go to a restaurant I get a carry out container and half my meal before I start eating. if I leave it in front of me I will continue to pick at it untill it is gone. I know me, I know I have to take steps to prevent disasters!
Mary, I look forward to throwing away my alarm clock. Well,,,,maybe not actually throwing it away, but putting it in a drawer and only letting it out when it is needed for appointments and stuff. Not that it will probably make much difference. I'm so used to getting up early I can't really sleep late.
but maybe that will change once I break the habit. Did it take you awhile to get used to sleeping in?
Hi Sherri, did you and the doggies get your walk in? I think DH is trying to do the same. It's been raining off and on for a few hours.
Rosie, we were posting at the same time. Happy Birthday tomorrow and enjoy your trip. I have a good freind in Walissa, give her a little wave as you go by. I've been doing a little "beautifying" today. I finally gave myself a pedicare. Painted my nails (toe) a nice cherry coral. I'm thinking that is not a "hip" color? One of the women at work told my friend it was not in, that blue was. I'm sorry i just can't see myself with blue toenails. I would think I had dropped something on them and they were all bruised.

Evening all....Well had a dangerous dinner. First cooked 2 ears of corn in microwave and the steam blasted my right hand. Then squashed down my hambuger and it squirted hot juice across the table.
Zoe...Sorry that even being down in NC didn't offset the winter drabs. Hey you re a short timer and retirement is coming soon! And you think you are busy now!!!!!!!
Freda...Since retiring I have not worn a watch, can count the times I set the alarm and no longer wake up predawn. I can't bear to wear white shoes and white hose makes me ill. Heck I don't even wear panty hose down here. Plus never iron and dust bi annually whether it needs it or not! Swear I won't do CPR on anybody. Never tell a soul am a nurse....
Rosie....Happy Birthday T.O.M.O.R.R.O.W! (me singing) Wait to the DGK's see the new you. You'll be dancing with those youngers.
Rie...Sounds like Vegas was fun. But aren't you supposed to leave stuff there, why'd you bring home pain! Do you get hired out to judge contests? Are you paid? Are you ranked?
Karen....Geeze 1.5 miles is too close and too scary. Do you have a storm shelter? Or just the woman cave? We'll all be there asap and make you one.
Nancy....OMG, love all 4 outfits. BUT the red outfit looks devine absolutely devine, darling. What a difference the belts make....wow
Gayle....Enjoy the little ones they grew up so fast. Our youngest is 11 going on 32.
Pam....join us. Not 50 but you will be some day!
I am done with all the free produce. It has been busy. Still can't believe how sweet those local apples were.Have about 2 cups of apple sauce left. Oh and some pickled green beans. I have pealed and chopped for days. Hey I'm reired....dah.
Bobbie...Happy Birthday....Today or T.O.M.O.R.R.O.W?
Yes, I as a certified referee I can get paid to judge tournaments. I'm not sure if I will do that as I also discovered how much I missed playing. This is the first nationals that I haven't competed in 5 years. Oh well, I learned a lot.
Zoe, I am with you on the S.A.D. We have had days and days of rain with no end in sight. Brief sunshine today and it is now starting to rain. I am trying to be greatful that there is not the loss of life that our friends are facing in the midwest and missouri.
Montana has record flooding and a dear old friend (82) is dealing with a flooded house. I think we will help him this week. He lives on the nearby reservation. Our property is not in danger of flooding but many of my friends are.
Lynn, this morning while it was briefly sunny, my house got too warm. I had to use the air while driving into work. That was weird as I have spent the last two days in "sweats and a blanket" LOL. Our weather is always changeable.
Gayle, I am amazed at how tiring the little ones can be! My son and 4yr old grandson live with me and I just don't have the energy like I used to. Enjoy the time as grandma. It ends quickly.
Freda, I hear you about the work stress and eating. Sometimes I wonder if I will always be this way - I hope not. I know that my son's cooking and his commitment to a healthy lifestyle for our family is such a help for me. He shops, cooks and serves all my meals according to plan. Such a help.
Pam, join us! This is the best group on the site!
Karen3, OMG more of your adventures! I hope you survived the steamy corn and squirting burgers! Seriously you are so entertaining. My aunt shares your feelings about white hose - she wouldn't be caught dead in them as a retired nurse.
Mary, you give me hope about sleeping in. I seem to have lost my ability to sleep much past 7am - no matter what day it is. I keep thinking of my grandmother who would always tell me that "isn't so easy or so much fun when you are old". Now, I am not old, but I seem to have the sleep disorder!
Sherry, You celebrate the Queen's Birthday? is it a holiday? Interesting.
Karen MI, please be safe and I hope that all your relatives make it through the hard times.
One of my friends who had a house fire has warned all of us that the most important thing one can do is to provide for the possible loss of photos. I have been working for some time on a project that involves scanning lots of photos and they will be turned into books for my children and grandchildren at a site called shutterbug.com. It makes me happy that I will also be preserving a representative amount of our family photos. These include the limited photos of my grandparents and great grandparents. Something we should all think about. I understand that it is the greatest loss.
Donna, I hope you had a good day and your leg is feeling better.
Well, tomorrow I am off to the Dr for the knee. I was hoping I would be better and be able to cancel the appointment but no such luck Tomorrow I am going to try some weight lifting from a chair. Need to get back to working out..
One day of work down and three to go. Today was just the right amount of busy. Hope the rest of the week goes ok.
Still adjusting to the new hours. I keep trying different things with the eating and exercise. Eventually, I guess things will fall into place. I'll be glad when it does. I like routine ~ I don't care if it seems dull and boring ~ I do better that way.
My reason for feeling the need to do the exercise is not just about the weight loss (I would just as soon not bother with it. I seem to lose weight ok without doing it ~ maybe a little slower) but for other health reasons. I am borderline to becoming diabetic. I have read that exercise helps your body use the insulin better and with increased activity and weight loss a person might be able to hold off the development of diabetes. I have been struggling then with this exercise thing. Since my job hours changed, trying to fit it in has become a challenge. I had been waking up and going at 6am to walk, but lately I have not been waking up in time and because I also have sleep problems, I hesitate to mess that up. I was trying to find info on-line that even if you had to break up the walking into 10 or 15 minute chunks ~ would that help for the insulin use. I have not found anything yet that says that (it does for just exercise in general, but I don't know if breaking it up would help with the inuslin thing). I did find a couple things though that said increasing exercise would help and it mentioned walking and bike riding. I feel encouraged about that. I was toying with the idea of walking around my hospital parking lot after work before I ever got in the car to go home. I felt like I stood a better chance of doing it then. If I waited until I got home ~ I know myself and I wouldn't do it. But riding the bike ~ well, if it says that will help ~ maybe I have found the solution. I really enjoy riding my bike and can see myself doing that after I got home. That would be my enjoyment and exercise all rolled into one. Something to look forward to at the end of the work day. So, I did that this evening ~ seemed to work well. I hope that on most of my work days, I am able to get out on time, so I can keep doing this.
Well, better go get stuff ready for work tomorrow. Hope you all are doing well.
Hey GGs,
Just wanted to pop in & say : HAPPY BIRTHDAY BOBBI & ROSEY! Hope it’s a GREAT ONE!
I’m going to be pretty busy today - have to finish switching my banking info (didn’t get to it yesterday) & have to go to the grocery store, & HAVE TO GET SOMETHING TO KILL THESE FLEAS! They’re eating us & the cats up! I put that new flea stuff Wal-Mart is advertising, Pet Armor Plus, on all three cats on the first of the month. It did pretty good, for about a week & a half. Then we started noticing a few fleas around. Last night it was pretty bad, so I’ve got to do something today! Guess I’ll go back to Advantage - it worked pretty good on my other cat (but it’s so expensive for three cats!). And I better get some flea spray or powder for the house.
KarenMO, I’m so glad those tornadoes missed you, & that your family is safe! Rosey, hope you have a good trip, & a great check-up! Have fun with those grandkids. Zoe, thanks for the compliments (& thanks to Gayle & Donna & Freda & KarenFL & Lyn), and why would I take offense at being called a “Southern” belle? I always wanted to be one!!! Oh, & I agree - I do think we dress for ourselves & other women. (And the awful niece is from FL???!!!) Mary, I hope the pig-out meal works as good for you as it does for me (keeps me OP the rest of the week)! Freda, I do feel like overeating is an addiction. And, like you said, harder to kick than drugs because you can’t go “cold turkey”.
I’d really like to stay longer, & Hi! to all I’ve missed, but…… I really need a nap before I get started on my chores & errands! (I’ve already lingered longer than I meant to!) Bye y’all. NCNancy
Good Morning! We're still doing fine here. This morning we have sunshine but there is more severe weather forecast for later this afternoon. I found out that my sisters husbands brother and his wife were in that house huddled down in the inner bathrooms bathtub when all the walls came down around them!! Thank the Lord they weren't hurt. My BIL had a 1956 Chevy in the garage that he had restored--well, if possible he will have to restore it again. It was his Dad's car and he had bought it brand new. But still everyone is alive and all the material things can be replaced in time.
I do put all my photos on DVD's or CD's and thought that they would be safe like that-- but I think I need to get a small fireproof safe and put them in there. My aunt had her computer crash and she lost all the pictures she had on there. I always put them on a CD after I get them all downloaded from a vacation. I am a "picture taking fool" so I would lose a lot if that happened.
Well, I need to get busy and get some stuff done around here. We haven't been able to open up our pool yet--- hoping that the weather calms down and we can open it this weekend. BUT glad we didn't have the cover off yet when all this stuff was blowing around-- at least it isn't in the pool.
Everyone have a good day and keep those prayers coming....
Good Morning-oh the misery of returning to the real world after a long weekend! Weigh in today- the scale didn't budge an ounce... rather dissapointing after staying on plan through a long weekend but at least it's not a gain.
Happy Belated Birthday to Bobbi and to Rosey I sure hope that you had good ones.
Off to work-have a wonderful day Ladies!!
Good Morning, All...
Drive-by today....
Happy official birthday to both Bobbi and Rosey! I hope you do, did, and will have wonderful days... and many, many, many more happy and healthy days ahead!
No news. Off and running.... Everyone, have a good day!!
Yes, mild to moderate cardio (walking or biking) will help with insulin resistance even when it is broken into smaller blocks of time. 2 - 15 minute blocks or even 3 - 10 minute blocks are the same, from a diabetes standpoint as 30 minutes straight. My endocrinologist made this point with me last fall as i could not do the recommended 30 mins per day when I started. He told me that the longer blocks are better for fat burning but the important thing is to get the excercise in every day, if possible.
Today I lifted weights for 30 minutes from a chair.
Hello everyone! I'm taking a break before I go out to the RV and start cleaning again. It really isn't that dirty since I keep it clean on the road but I just want it to shine for potential buyers. I started cleaning but only got the upper kitchen cupboards and microwave cleaned and never got back out there. So hope to get a lot done today now that I have my housework done. Only thing I want to still do in the house is to clean our sock drawers. I do the drawers a little at a time. I can easily do that this evening.
It felt so good to sleep in this am! No gym, and I am taking a break from the meeting I usually attend on Tues mornings. Will get back to it though. Just so much to do these days. Riemontana - the only time we set an alarm is when we have to get up really early to catch a plane or something. Soon my gs will be here and we will have to do it to get him to his plane on time. I wish his parents would think of us (and him, poor kid has still go to school when he arrives home and he usually stays for afterschool activities so parents can work) as an early flight means lots of traffic so we have to leave extra early. I hope he will sleep on the plane but sometimes he plays on his little electronic thingy (don't know what it's called) or there are other kids and they all get to playing I think.
Riemontana - I don't sleep as well as I did when I first retired. I went off Premarin about 6 years ago and since then have had hot flashes really badly. They are a little better now (taking 2 kinds of supplements!) but they still wake me up at night. I have always slept better in early am though and sleeping in is still pretty good. Sometimes it seems that women are destined to not sleep after they become mothers. I know that for all the years I was raising kids I didn't sleep well...felt I had to be alert for cries in the night, then alert for teens coming home, always something. After the kids grew up, I actually got some sleep! Then the hot flashes started! Sometimes I think I don't need as much sleep anymore...but other times I feel I need more as I feel so tired..that's the way it's been recently....tired and achy, so I look forward to my bed. Who knows what further old age will bring. Yet I still have enough life in me that I don't want to sleep too much...who knows what I might miss?!! Plus there always seems to be so much to do and I do enjoy my life.
Freda -No, I had NO problem with learning to sleeping in! The last several years I was working swing and often stayed up very late so I was always tired in the mornings and wanted to sleep in, but tried to get up with the kids in the morning. Sometimes as they got older I'll admit I didn't. My dh always worked days and he did have trouble sleeping in at first. In fact he used to get up early, go for a 4 mile jog and then come back and get me at 9am and we'd walk together another two miles! He called that his cool down. Alas, he can no longer do that...he still walks but he now walks slower and for only about 20 min. He does also ride a bike for 15 min. This is 3x week and the other days he still works hard in our big yard or goes fishing. Since his leg fracture he has slowed down a bit on the yard working...instead of working 4-6 hours out there, he limits it to 2 or 3 now. But for 76 I think that's still pretty good!
Jess - glad you reminded me...I need to get started back to transferring our old family VHS tapes to DVDs. Remember I was doing that before we left in Dec? Well, I never got back to it. There are a lot of them and I tend to sit down and watch them while it works. After all these years of NOT watching them I just can't resist now so it takes me a while. I also need to upload our phone pics. AND I want to also upload some from our camera for printing. And here I thought technology was supposed to save us time...sometimes I wonder. Glad your family is ok, but how scary!
Nancy - I sure hope something works. I know it is as you say, I just have to say no to this inner child! I overate again last night...thankfully all healthy things but I'm sure too many calories and carbs. I stopped counting and didn't take my bs this morning. I did take it two hours after breakfast though and I did fine. It's ok if you guys want to yell at me...I realize I've been misbehaving for years now on this forum and deserve it. I want to be a good example to my kids too...they are all nice and slender but I think self-control affects many areas of our lives and I want them to see that it is possible to overcome.
Glynne - I agree with what you said about exercise. I can't say it helps me lose weight but I do it for other reasons...I have increased flexibility, feel more agile and as a former nurse, I know that it is good for my health in so any ways. I actually kinda enjoy it now but for many years I did not exercise beyond my daily activities.
Well the good news is that I didn't have to have a cortisone shot. The bad news is that I am in a rather elaborate brace and an ace wrap from my toes to above my knee. They didn't do an MRI to confirm but the Dr says that I have a torn quadracept and probably a partially ruptured quad tendon. I can probably start working out slowly in a week but I am not expected to recover completely for at least a month. I feel like a whinny baby but I am bummed out. Gotta figure out how to eat sparingly and not let this derail me. I am the kind of person that if I don't stick to the plan, I might get off track. Thanks for listening.
Height: 5'2" (really 5'1 1/4" ( but I refuse to accept that - I don't care what the doctor says!)
Hi All - Faced the dreaded scale today & am down what I gained + another lb. So I'm a happy camper! It's cold & rainy :rainy: here again - never mind where is spring; it's nearly summer (on the calendar anyway!) But I went for my walk this am & poor Baxter got soaked; he's so close to the ground! We don't have flea problems here in the Okanagan like they do at the coast. I always use Revolution (combination flea/heartworm preventative) & when I lived at the coast I moved the dog & I out & used a flea bomb. Worked like a darn! I'm finding that now if I don't walk every day I get "antsy" - my body wants to get moving. I guess that's a good thing, eh? I used to really dislike walking but now I really enjoy it. Anyway gotta' get an early dinner as I've got a meeting tonight. All you gals in "tornado alley" be careful there - we are keeping our fingers crossed. And evryone else have a great evening.........TTYL
One of my Facebook friend's put this on there this evening ~ I thought it was neat and maybe you all would enjoy it too.

1. Life isn’t fair, but it’s still good.
2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.
3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.
4. Your job won’t take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and parents will. Stay in touch.
5. Pay off your credit cards every month.
6. You don’t have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.
7. Cry with someone. It’s more healing than crying alone.
8. It’s OK to get angry with God. He can take it.
9. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.
10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.
11. Make peace with your past so it won’t screw up the present.
12. It’s OK to let your children see you cry.
13. Don’t compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn’t be in it.
15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don’t worry; God never blinks.
16. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.
17. Get rid of anything that isn’t useful, beautiful or joyful.
18. Whatever doesn’t kill you really does make you stronger.
19. It’s never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else.
20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don’t take no for an answer.
21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don’t save it for a special occasion. Today is special.
22. Over prepare, then go with the flow.
23. Be eccentric now. Don’t wait for old age to wear purple.
24. The most important sex organ is the brain.
25. No one is in charge of your happiness but you.
26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words ‘In five years, will this matter?’
27. Always choose life.
28. Forgive everyone everything.
29. What other people think of you is none of your business.
30. Time heals almost everything. Give time time.
31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
32. Don’t take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
33. Believe in miracles.
34. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn’t do.
35. Don’t audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.
36. Growing old beats the alternative — dying young.
37. Your children get only one childhood..
38. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.
39. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.
40. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else’s, we’d grab ours back.
41. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.
