Lyn ~ the butterscotch pudding sounds yummy. Good for you taking care of your "Good Girl" stuff.

Mary ~ it is hard to eat right while you are traveling. Hang in there. Where are you now? How much longer will you be traveling before you go back home?

Karen MO ~ Ginger and Sissy are so cute. Have you discovered any new things with your Wii?

Karen FL ~ contrats on your 2nd place for Bridge. Your cabbage dish sounds really good.

Bunti ~ your dinner ~ the black bean, ham and veggie soup sounds tasty as well. So many great ideas here for dishes to try.

Hello to Debbie OBX, Lily, Becky, Lola, Emaline, Nancy MI and shrinkmfs.

I bought stuff to try Donna's cabbage/kielbasa recipe. I couldn't find kielbasa that was just turkey ~ it was a combo of turkey, pork and beef ~ it was the only kind they had. But, I was in a hurry, so I kind of made up a thing. I took a wedge of the cabbage and steamed it with a portion of the kilebasa. Then cut the cabbage into chunks. Then I took a tablespoon of this salad dressing ~ Ken's Light Options ~ vinegar and olive oil ~ put on it and stirred it around ~ it was yummy.

Went to a staff meeting at work today. One of our coworkers ( a fellow from Vietnam) wanted us to try some food from one of their restraunts ~ he brought some sandwiches and toppings to share. Then another coworker who has been making these beautiful cake creations ~ treated us to that. I had some, but think I am still ok. One of my coworkers split the piece of cake with me so that helped.

Love when things go right ~ even little things. I took a woven leather belt of DH's that was coming apart to a shoe repair shop. He fixed it while I waited ~ took about 5 minutes. His idea ~ I was hoping but didn't ask. That was nice of him. Saved me having to come back or make a special trip.

Hope you all are having a nice evening.

Take care

Good Morning Everyone,

Hit 147 this morning. So far, I have lost a pound a week since I started the BL Challenge.

VERY snowy here today. I took a photo from my porch for my class.

Zoe, I HOPE you are NOT going to go to work today. It was not supposed to begin snowing here until this afternoon. When I woke up, the ground was covered.

Gayle, what is SNF? I have found that I can eat anything as long as I have VERY small portions. When I eat cake, I have about 1/4 of a piece. I get the taste without messing up my calorie plan.

Rosey, keep on moving! Is there something that you can do to help you enjoy the exercise more? I have an Ipod stocked with audio books that I listen to when I walk. If I am on the treadmill or the bike, I always have a book to read while I am walking. On my way to exercise every morning, I always stop for my coffe and my protein bar. All things I look forward to.

Will check back later - not going out today.

Lynn

glynne 01-26-2011 09:33 AM

Lynn ~ stay in and enjoy keeping comfy and cozey. SNF stands for Skilled Nursing Facility. That is the unit I work on at the hospital. Skilled units are sometimes free standing ones, sometimes a section of a nursing home and sometimes ~ but not as often ~ a section of the hospital. This is my third one. I worked on the skilled unit in North Carolina and in Kansas City. A total of 13 years so far. I guess the with the skilled units, I have sort of found my niche (sp?)

Yea ~ the sun is shining today. Cold right now (for here anyway) 36*

Good Morning,
Dr. Bones went on vacation so no appointment this morning. I do have a body massage scheduled and an oil change in my car. The recipe below was emailed to me this am by allrecipes.com. I'm the opposite of a vegetarian but printed out this recipe anyway. It had a 4.5 star review and lots of interesting options from reviewers. Tabasco sauce was one of them for some extra kick. If anyone makes it, let us know if it's worth our time in the kitchen.

Hmmmm - does this mean that the other nurses are NOT skilled? What happens differently in your area. If/when I go into the hospital do I want to ask for skilled nurses?

Lynn

glynne 01-26-2011 11:06 AM

Lynn ~ No, the nurses (RN's and LVN's) on the skilled unit are not more skilled. That is just the name of the unit. It is a unit where the patients come when they no longer need to be on an acute care unit, but are not yet ready to go home or to/back to a nursing home. They need more time of IV antibiotics, wound care or physical therapy before they are ready to go home. Most of our patients are elderly, but sometimes we have younger ones.

Bobbi ~ that recipe sounds good.

Ok, off to the Weight Watchers meeting then another mandatory education thing at work. Errands while out. Back after a while.

Take care

Good Morning, All...
Freda, thanks for the words! Yesterday was a SKITTLES-FREE day!
Lynn, eiuuu! I can't believe how irresponsible your dentist was, to be working that closely with people, with the FLU! He should be drilled with no anesthetic! I do hope you remain flu-free! And I love the names of your kitties... and speaking of which, is the new movie out and have you seen it yet? And congrats, big time!, on your loss... you're doing so well!!
PT/Zoe, how's your nephew doing? I miss hearing from you!!!
Rosey, hang in there. You'll be losing again in no time... how can you NOT, with eating tiny tidbits only? Everything takes time! Besides, you don't want to lose too fast, or you'll have to go in for suck-and-tuck surgery next.
Laffalot, congrats on your loss, too!
Glynne, I'm so glad you had cabbage and enjoyed the dinner! Your version sounded pretty yummy! It's so good and so good for you... That cake was beautiful! Oh, cake is even more of a downfall than Skittles! What flavor was it?
NCNancy, how's Milky?
Everyone, thanks for your good wishes and wonderings about Aunty Ann. She went to the doc yesterday and has a bladder collapse, and it was poking out of places it had no business being. I'm sure it was terribly uncomfortable... and very scary for her!... but the doc said they would not do any kind of repair surgery, due to her age. The poor soul! She's getting so frail! My mom is nearly 88, and she's deteriorated in the last six months, too... She still lives alone, and I worry about her falling. She's so wobbly and so STUBBORN.

Nothing to report, status quo. Everyone, I hope you're all dry... and soon to be enjoying warm weather! Be safe!

Bunti 01-26-2011 12:11 PM

Good Morning from Juneau, ladies. It is raining and blowing here, but is 40 degrees. Feels like a heat wave. (Skiers are complaining, but not me!)

Haven't been checking in much because it is grant report time now, quarterly it is kind of like finals week at our part of the agency- gotta do everything we normally do, plus significant report writing. (Actually, not true, I check in, just don't post, and now I am too behind to acknowledge everyone's post)

Still on plan, still find you all so inspiring and fun. Lynn, your question about skilled nurses cracked me up. Where would the unskilled nurses go??

Stay safe and warm everyone.

Hi Bunti,

Not sure, but I think I've come into contact with some of them!

ellabella 01-26-2011 05:17 PM

Here I am, home safe and sound, warm & dry....planning a shrimp stir fry for supper, and a work-from-home day tomorrow. I've had some *conversations* with the boss, who agrees that I can just as easily work from home, and in fact, should work from home whenever possible - whenever I don't have meetings scheduled anywhere, that is. I did go into the office today, but it started snowing heavily there at @ 11:00 AM, and I packed up and headed home at 12:30. Apparently there isn't as much snow predicted for central MA., but my office is south of Boston, which is right in the path of the storm with another foot of snow possible overnight. No point in driving INTO the snow belt tomorrow, so I have a full briefcase and a number of emails with stuff I've sent to my home email from the office. I've decided that I'm too danged old to keep taking chances driving under hazardous conditions....not only can it be treacherous, but it's also exhausting. I went to bed at 8:00 last night and slept like a log until 5:30 this morning. :faint:
My sis called last night and said that my nephew was LESS responsive during the day yesterday than he was a few hours after the surgery. According to the docs, there is probably some (brain) swelling AS A RESULT OF the surgery, and that it should (hopefully) be temporary. She is still a wreck (naturally) and I'm a bit freaked out myself, but holding on to the fact that he's had a number of near misses over the past five or so years, and has come back from some pretty bad situations. The boy is a fighter.
Lynn, I found your investigative probe into the definition of skilled nurses (and what about the unskilled ones...????) a welcome bit of comic relief. Should we demand only skilled nurses should we ever need one? (Sounds like a capital idea to me, actually.....) OH! And congrats on the 147!!! VERY awesome! :encore:
Bobbi, I am delighted with that recipe! Sounds a little like hummus, but with added veggies. I'm looking forward to trying it. I think that I'm going to start relying more on beans for my protein and fiber in the weeks ahead like Karen3 is doing (Hi Karen! Congrats on the bridge triumph!). I am getting close to my "setpoint" - that point where I've finally had enough of waffling back and forth and get myself settled firmly into a healthy diet and exercise regimen (whether I like the exercise or not - remember how I always used to ride my bike a few miles a day? Well, I can't ride bike in winter around here, especially with so much snow, but I can walk with that mean old Leslie Sansone, I suppose.)
Hmmmm, Gayle, I'm liking the vinegar & olive oil on the cabbage idea. I actually have some spray dressing - balsamic - that I betcha would work nicely. Listening to all these good ideas for meals is really motivating me to get back on - and STAY on - track again. :goodvibes
My gosh, PT, the women in your family certainly enjoy long lives, don't they? I would guess that being stubborn might be a factor? Oh, your poor Aunty Ann! They couldn't do anything to make her more comfortable for Pete's sake? Poor dear.
40 degrees Bunti? Sounds like a tropical heat wave to me! I think this is the worst winter we've had in these parts for quite a few years. It seems to snow every third or fourth day. It's been just relentless. I think that most New Englanders have about had enough, now. It's be nice if the weather gods got the message.
Give Ginger & Sissy a hug from Aunt Zoë, Karen31....I swear, they are just the cutest little gals...
Thanks for the good wishes, Nancy - I sure was glad that you got some financial relief as well as Milky's improved health. I hope things continue to improve for you, now. And SPRING is on the way! Things are looking up!
Congrats, Laff - good going! :high:
Rosey! Omigosh! WE could start an exercise haters club....you know...we'll exercise, but nobody can make us like it.... hey! Maybe you could design buttons for us to wear! Hats? I think we deserve a little good press, after all....oh wow...your dh suffers from SAD? And he lives in Alaska? Good grief! And I think I have it bad...yeah. A sunlamp. I definitely see one of those in my future!
Congrats, Tea, on the pounds gone! :cheer2:
Hiya Freda and Lyn. Hope all is well with you. Lyn! I think you're supposed to get more snow than us this time! (Well, we'll see what we get, won't we.....the weather fools aren't very reliable, after all!) Freda..yes, spring is coming...spring is coming...spring is right around the corner....are we believing it yet? :chin:
Well, stay warm & comfy, everyone....see you tomorrow!:grouphug:

Laffalot 01-26-2011 05:19 PM

:) Hi Everyone - Ladyinweighting.........CONGRATS on the loss! NCF Nancy - I hope you Aunty Ann isn't uncomfortable. It's hard to see loved ones fail (for lack of another word). I know exactly how that is too. Today is a cool (just above freezing) rainy on top of the snow day - ugly. I haven't yet tried any of the recipes that I've seen posted. So far I've been keeping meals really simple & basic. I know I should "branch out" & try different recipes, etc so I won't get bored. I hope everyone is having a great day. :)

Karen3 01-26-2011 06:39 PM

Hey....Did you see that big blue blob fly by a few minutes ago? That was me! It has been so windy here that if you open your mouth you'll end up on the other coast. Even the little lady bug on my home page is yelling alert. The thunderstorms that blew thru last night just about brought the chimney down.

Bobbi...I am gonna try that spread tomorrow. I bought extra chickpeas last week.

Lynn...Had to laugh at your skilled nurses. You do know that the board that nurses take for licensing just means that they have minium safe practicing skills. Saddest part of medical care is the more education/skills the less time you actually spend with patients. How much snow are you getting?

Zoe....Your nephew has been in my prayers. So glad you listen to us and are working from home. Hey sunset was after 6pm...Spring is coming!

Boy oh Boy We had green cabbage Sat and then red cabbage 2 nights. How can I have eaten so many beans for the past month with little discomfort and the cabbage has left me feeling like my belly is about to exploded. If I went outside in the wind opened my mouth and stuck a pin in me I'd land in England. New jet stream....the karen3!

Need to check bridge scores and pay some bills......hugs, karen3

Hello Everyone! Gosh, I didn’t realize that I hadn’t been here the last few days. Well, actually I have been here reading and thinking that I will post a little later--- then I don’t get it done!! Shame on me! I’m still working out on the Wii every morning and still liking it. I have been doing the “Free Run” which is 10 minutes, twice each time and getting a little over 3.5 miles for the 20 minute total. This morning I did the Free run 3 times and ended up at 5.22 miles! So that would be like 30 minutes. I have been trying to do it at least an hour every morning but this week I have pushed it up to 75 minutes. I do the Basic Steps and the Free Steps also. Try to get at least twice on the Free Steps which are 10 minutes each time. Then I play with the hula hoops and try to improve a bit on that-- I hate not being able to catch the hula hoops they throw at you!! But it makes it fun.

Zoe, glad to hear that you are starting to work more at home especially in the bad weather. And this way you are “weaning” them slowly from seeing you in the office everyday so when you retire they won’t go in to shock!! I’ve saved you Cabbage soup recipe and want to pick up the stuff that I need the next time we are at the store. It really sounds good. I was going to print it out but then realized that my printer is out of ink! Darn It!! Tim bought a RV satellite dish and found a user manual on line for it---28 pages later and I don’t have any ink!!

Mary, I think that you have done great with your weight on this trip. I know I always have a hard time when I’m away from home. Between some wanting to go out to eat and some just making such good food that you never make at home it is really hard! I pretty much decided to just relax and enjoy and when you get back home you can get back on a regular routine. Of course, I TRY not to overdo it but sometimes…….

Lyn, good to see you. I enjoy your post on Facebook too. Just another way of keeping in touch.

NCNancy--thanks for the compliment on my “girls” They are so spoiled but I love it. Glad that Milky is feeling better. They are so special to us.

Gayle--Nice to see you--Another one that stays touch on Facebook! Love those Budweiser commercials! I’m looking forward to seeing pics of you riding your bicycle when the weather turns nicer. I imagine you are really going to enjoy it.

Freda--you know about spoiling little fur babies too. It is just to much fun not to. I like seeing you on Facebook too. It is nice to have more than one way to stay in touch.

Bobbi--glad that program worked for you. And your plant is beautiful! I think I would like to have one of those in my house for the color too! I have some plants but they are just green-- no blooms. A big Elephant ear philodendron and a Christmas Cactus. I still have a poinsettia from Christmas that still has some flowers on it. But that isn’t going to last much longer

Tea-- Congrats on the pound lost!! :carrot: I hope to see at least one pound gone each week from me and anything else I feel is a bonus! And you are right--- just moving is better than sitting on the couch. I’ve even been getting up and just walking in place for 10 minutes in the evening instead of sitting and watching TV. I figure that helps too.

Laffalot-- Congrats on your 2 pounds gone! :carrot: YAY!!

Bunti--- Hello and good to hear from you.

Karen3--I’ve been hearing about some of that weather down there. YUCK! I have some friends who are there on vacation in an RV and last night they couldn’t make up their minds to either go to a motel or stay in the RV. I guess there were tornado warnings where they are. Stay safe!!

Donna --- I like your ideas about the pearl!! That is something good to think about when those nasty “skittles” start calling you!! Always happy to see you on Facebook too! I hope Aunty Ann is feeling better.

Rosey--Hang in there, you have come so far this year and we are all supporting you in everything that you do. Can you hear all those cheers??? :carrot:

Here are just a couple more pictures of two very spoiled pomeranians! Can you tell I have fun with them??

I think I have caught up with everyone--If I missed anyone I’m sorry and it wasn’t intentional! Have a great evening.

Nancyoyo 01-26-2011 08:13 PM

Hi G.G.s,
Milky continues to do well, thanks for asking. I really think he’s going to be fine, but I’m not going to rejoice too soon this time.

Gayle, that cake just looks too yummy. I just love cake! Especially bakery cakes with that super sweet icing! Was it that kind of icing? Whoa, gotta get my thoughts away from there!

Bobbi, I was going to try that chickpea recipe, but…. I realized it was about the same as chicken salad, only using the peas/beans in place of the chicken. I don’t think chickpeas are much lower in calories than chicken, & like you I’m not a vegetarian, so I’d rather have chicken! I will show it to SO’s DD, because she is a vegetarian.

Donna, good for you for staying away from those Skittles! I’m so sorry your aunt is having those problems. I hope she’s doing better! Did they do something to make her more comfortable?

Zoe, you say you’re going to work from home, but then there you are going to work?! All that travel time’s got to be a killer! I want to join that exercise haters club with you & Rosey, but only if I don’t HAVE to exercise. I not only hate it, I don’t do it (& I know I should). I really hope your nephew starts to improve soon! Your poor sister! Knowing what she must be going through makes my problems seem totally insignificant. I feel so bad for her, & you!

Bunti, I hope you’re not working so hard you don’t get to enjoy your “balmy” weather!

Lynn, I think you’re awful brave making jokes about nurses, with all the nurses here. Just kidding, I know everyone here has a great sense of humor!

Laffalot, it’s Donna’s Auntie Ann. Sorry about your ugly weather. And, sometimes, I think it’s easier to stay on plan keeping things basic. I seem to do that at first, but you’re right, eventually you need variety to keep from getting bored.

KarenFL, Blue blob? Why blue? Maybe you should carry around an anchor if you have to venture out (or have the winds died down?)

KarenMO, I can't believe how much you're enjoying that Wii! I might have to get one (when SO goes back to work). Maybe even I could learn to like exercise?!!

NCNancy
