I am 51 years old and trying to lose the 70 pounds that I have been dragging around for far too long. I would really like to join you all - you seem like such a wonderfully supportive group.
I did post in the Introduction forum yesterday, and will fill in some bio information later if that is okay. I'm trying the old WW plan because I have the books and it worked 11 years ago - but now I'm coping with full blown menopause and the beginnings of Insulin Resistance - both seem to make the weight pile on and be very reluctant to come off. I'm not going to give up though!!! :)

Hi Tea,

WELCOME!

Welcome Tea Granny - Yes this is a great place to come and get support.

I did my Planet Fitness workout this am...40 minutes on the Eliptical and 10 minutes abs and my favorite - yoga stretching. Had a fill-in client today who is turning 101 next month! She is a doll, so interesting to talk with and so grateful for her long happy life. i hope if I make it that far, I am just as grateful. I made her tea and we talked a while in between helping her with some housework. I really really like this job...so low stress and so rewarding!

Good evening all....Thank you the rain was lovely. Much needed! It looked like a winter day, but I was barefoot standing on the lawn talking to a new neighbor. They have 2 little girls and Dash is in love, but the bike bell has to go....scared him to death.

Made my big vegie pot with lots of black beans. Did they ever change the flavor. yum Thanks Zoe! Have black, kidney, pinto, butter, lima, garbonzo beans long with other vegies. Ton of garlic. That makes enough for a week. Did my weekly WI and down total of 12lbs now. I can see it.

Hi Tea....Welcome. The difference between the way we all used to diet is the support you can get here. The more you join in the stronger you will get.

Lynn....the best coloring I see at bridge are the ladies who just do some blondish high lights. The darker colors hi lite the wrinkles. I've had white/gray hair since I was 18. I have spent 52 yrs pretending it was blonde.

Lyn....101! Do they still do the birthdays on Good Morning America? hummmm Willard Scott???? gesh I scraped the bottom of my brain for that name. We have a couple of bridge players getting there. Imagine been 98, living alone and just stopped driving not because having problems, but kids were worried.

Bobbie....shhh but it sounds like maybe you are getting better. So glad

Funny thing. I cleaned the inside of the microwave. And 10 minutes later DH heated a bowl chili and the beans popped all over the oven. I looked at him and saw a line of chicks each giving him a head swat. must thank you.....tickled my soul for sure! Do you all do sons, too?

Now that's some mighty chick power! hugs,karen3

ps Rosie did you see the picture of our rosie?

Bobbolink 01-17-2011 07:07 PM

Welcome Tea granny, just jump right in.
KarenFla...your state wasn't very nice to my brother and SIL, they were on a 10 day vacation and it was cool everyday but one when they went to the beach, 72 degrees. No tans but they did bring back some oranges and grapefruits. I had a Florida orange this afternoon and it was really sweet and delicious.

Karen31 01-17-2011 07:16 PM

Hi Karen3, WOW! Congrats on 12 lbs. down!:carrot: That is Wonderful! I'm working hard with the Wii this week and hope to see more lbs gone on Friday when I weigh in again! Your Veggie pot sounds so good! I need to do some of that too. But I need to get some stuff out of the freezer before I can freeze anymore.

Welcome Tea!! This is such a great group I know you will love it here. Of course, at times we get silly but that makes it so nice!

Bobbi, glad to hear that the headaches are getting to be less and less. I hate headaches!

Speaking of that ---- if y'all smack "sons" around a bit I have one that I would like to have stand in that line!!! :dizzy:

I did the Wii again this morning and ended up doing it for an hour again. But this time I did the Basic run which is 10 minutes, but I did it twice, the first time I did 1.745 miles and then the second time I did 1.807 miles for a total of 3.552 miles in 20 minutes. I was pretty excited about that. I also did the other things like the basic steps and hula hoops for the rest of the hour. Tried the boxing deal but I haven't got that figured out yet...not that coordinated I guess.

Well, think I will go and watch the Bachelor -- I like that show-- guess I'm just a sap.

Catch you all later.

Tea Granny 01-17-2011 07:32 PM

Thank you for the warm welcome! My weigh in day is tomorrow - so I'll let you know how it goes :)

Hi G.G.s,
Just wanted to pop in & see what everyone’s doing. I’m not planning on staying long, I want to jump back into my world of fiction, cause reality is a little too tough to deal with today. Just got presented with a very unexpected bill, & my little lap-warmer kitty (his name is Milky, by the way) is acting sick! He’s just been lying around the last couple of days, & not playing with the other 2 cats. That’s not normal for him. At least he’s still eating, so I’m just going to keep an eye on him for now, but we might be making a trip to the vet’s.

KarenFL, Yay! on the 12 lb. loss. Way to go!

Hey Tea Granny, nice to meet you.

Well, I’m taking my lap-cat & retreating back to my book. I’m re-reading an old favorite, seemed like a comforting place to be.

'Night Everyone.

Good morning GG,

Up early ~ couldn't sleep. Hoping maybe I'll get sleepy again and can take a nap later.

Welcome Tea Granny ~ join right in ~ this is a wonderful group. Looking forward to getting to know you.

Nancyoyo ~ hope your kitty gets to feeling better. What kind of books do you enjoy? (I think you mentioned once, but I forgot.)

Karen3 ~ congrats on the 12# loss ~ way to go :) The visual of the "smack-a-son/hubby" line made me smile too. Watch out guys ~ GG coming to your neighborhood soon :D

Karen31 ~ you're really going to town with that Wii ~ glad you are enjoying it.

Lyn ~ your job sounds very nice. The elderly were always my favorite age (as a nurse) to take care of. They always have so many interesting memories to share.

Lynn ~ congrats on the smaller size clothes. Oh ~ thank you for the idea of the yucky visual for tempting foods.

Zoe ~ your vegie burgers sound delicious.

Bobbi ~ glad your headaches are happening less ~ wishing for you that they will be gone for good

Starting to feel a little sleepy, so I'll post this and do some more later.

See you later

Good Morning Golden girls,

Not a great time for me. I just got over the virus, or at least I thought I had, worked the weekend, and now i'm sick again. Guess I needed a few more days to recoup. I was in bed most of the day yesterday, getting up to clean from time to time, and i'm off today. Hopefully, by the time I have to work tomorrrow, i'll be feeling better. I hate this. But I guess everyone hates being sick.

Welcome Tea. Look forward to getting to know you. You found the right place for support.

Donna, I looked up that recipe for the bean burgers that Z made. Sounds easy. I buy the Boca burgers and they are not cheap. I look forward to making these and am anxious to find out how they freeze. Thanks for posting. there was another veggie burger on the site too that sounds interesting.

Lynn, If you feel like changing your hair go for it! Hair grows. If you decide you don't want to do it you can always stop. I get highlights and it mostly covers the grey, or blends in. And it makes my hair seem thicker, gives it body.

Lyn, so good to see you posting again. We do have a tendancy to miss the people who come here, when they leave.

NCNancy, I hope your little kitty is ok. What book are you reading? Love to read and always have a book or 2 going. Always looking for new authors and found a few when we posted books we love not too long ago.

Gayle, still doing well with the new WW diet?

Karen31, WOW! you are really exercising. Weren't you one of the exercise haters? It makes a difference when you find something you really like to do.

Bobbi, Glad to hear that you are feeling better. My son usually get some Florida oranges this time of year and shares. Looking forward to some. But the oranges in the stores are pretty good right now.

Karen3, Dash has new playmates huh? He'll get used to the bike bells. Soon he'll know that when he hears that sound the kids are coming. Dogs are so smart!

Z, thanks for the review on the black bean burgers. Anxious to find out how the do in the freezer. If they work out i'll be saving a lot of money. and I like knowing what I add in too/

Make it a good day.

jess1 01-18-2011 10:51 AM

Good Morning, All...
How are we, this fine morning? It's almost 50 degrees, and it's just
8:30 a.m. It'll be lovely for the next couple of days, then BRRRR again! I'm enjoying while I can!

Today is Granny's (Mom's) day... take her to the booboo shop to get her hair trimmed, to the grocery store, and to whatever errands she needs. I haven't seen her much since Christmas.

Bobbi, here's the black bean link from my post to Zoe: http://allrecipes.com//Recipe/homema...rs/Detail.aspx I'm delighted they were such a hit! Yes, I will post it on the recipe site.

TeaGranny (is that a family name?), welcome!!

KarenMO, Bachelor?? I always liked this particular bachelor, thought he had, like, um, like.... courage? to drop those two finalists. But WHERE on earth do they find the skanks to populate the show??? I haven't watched an entire series for several seasons, but I do check in periodically to get my disgust fix. Apparently, he does find true happiness... and I wonder if it's with one of these truly admirable lovelies?

NCNancy, kitty okay? I hope so! My little SamCat woke with diarrhea not too long ago (unusual) and then spent the next four days under the bed, wouldn't eat or come to mama... and I thought it was time for the Big Shot. They he came out, said he didn't want to talk about it, and went about his business, just fine! I hope your baby is okay.

Freda, feel better!! I'm sorry that crud turned around on you! Insofar as freezing the burgers: they should freeze okay, but I would NOT cook them completely (only about 75%) before cooling and then freezing them. Otherwise, they'll be dry when you thaw and reheat them.

PT/Zoe, yo!

Everyone, have a lovely day! Be warm, dry, and safe..........!

Good Morning Everyone,

Snow/ice/sleet here this morning. No gym today. I will go downstairs & use the condo treadmill. Generally I try to avoid it – do NOT want to get into conversations with the condo residents – all they ever do is argue with each other about what should happen with the condo. If you ever think about moving to an “over 55” condo – do NOT do it. Old folks are TOO crotchety and have too much time on their hands!

A while ago, Bobbi, Isabella, and I were doing a separate thread about exercising. During that, we posted some photos about where we each lived & described our towns. It was interesting. I was thinking that maybe we could each do that.

I live in a suburb of Philadelphia. Philly is about 40 minutes from my town – Yardley, PA. Yardley is on the Delaware River just across from NJ. Takes me about 60 min to get to NYC. This is an OLD and LITTLE town – with a lot of PA grey stone buildings. I live in a 10-year-old condo that looks like a hotel – there are 30 units in the building.

Hi Karen,
I will tell him to make it light – I definitely do NOT need to hi lite the wrinkles!

Hi Bobbi,
FL was cold when we were there also. My sister and I are headed back down there (this time to St. Augustine) in March for our annual cousins’ reunion. Hope it gets warmer by then.

Hi Karen,
I have been trying to increase my walking speed for a few months. For several years, I was walking on the treadmill at 2.5 mi/hr. Over the last few months, I have raised that to 3.5 mi/hr. My goal is to get to 4 mi/hr. (a 15 min mile). I run VERY little – between knee/hip/feet problems, I am afraid of doing damage. Are you actually running for 20 minutes?

Hi Nancy,
Hope Milky is better – what are you reading? I am reading the new Brad Meltzer novel – The Inner Circle – and REALLY enjoying it.

Hi Gayle,
Are you a napper? I LOVE my afternoon naps. That “yucky visual” has worked REALLY well for me. Have you tried it?

Hi Freda,
I called my hairdresser & told him to plan on color with my cut in February.

glynne 01-18-2011 10:58 AM

Donna ~ Zoe also mentioned a Greek pizza you introduced her to that sounded yummy. Could you post the recipe for that as well?

Thank you :)

jess1 01-18-2011 11:35 AM

Glynne, it's on the recipe thread, and it's YUMMMMY....called Greek Pizza

glynne 01-18-2011 12:33 PM

Thanks Donna ~ I should have looked there first.

Karen31 01-18-2011 12:40 PM

Good Morning! I got my hour in with the Wii again this morning! I like getting up and getting it done first thing BUT I didn’t do that this morning. I have the alarm set for 7:00 am and this morning when it went off I shut it off and thought that I would lay there for just a few minutes!! Next thing I knew I heard Regis talking about retiring from the talk show and that was 9:00am!! I need to stop doing that! But at least I got it done and now can go on with my day.

NCNancy-- sure hope your furbaby is feeling better. They really become so much of our family. I took Ginger in last week for her annual vet. deal and came home $107 poorer. But she is in good health with just a little clouding of the eyes. Still weighs the same as last year, 9 lbs. She just turned 8 Sissy still needs to go in for hers and that will probably be next week.

Hi Freda, Yean, I never have been much on wanting to exercise but I know that is the best way. I am one of those people that can find just about any excuse not to! But have made up my mind that I am just going to do it. The Wii is connected to the TV in the living room and I started thinking that, oh DH might want to watch something and then I am using it--- WELL GUESS WHAT--- there is a TV in the computer room, and one in our bedroom and 2 downstairs!! If there is something on they want to watch-- there are other TV’s. And right now with the son staying downstairs, the TV in the living room is the one that leaves me the most room to move! So they can DEAL WITH IT!!

Gayle-- Sorry you had a hard time sleeping last night-- hopefully you can catch a nap later today.

Donna, I was so glad to see Madison walk off the show last night! Surprised that she did it but was glad. Now if Michelle will do that too!!! I really like Emily right now. I printed out the recipe for the black bean veggie burgers and want to try them soon.

Hi Lynn, With the Wii you run/jog in place. Right now I have the duration set for 10 minutes and until I feel more comfortable with that I will just do the 10 minutes a couple times. They have another run program that I have tried too but it doesn’t show mileage but is still fun. It looks like you are running around on the Island of WOOHOO!! And I like the Basic steps too---it is also 10 minutes and you follow them on the TV with steps front and back and side to side using the balance board. I guess you can tell I’m really liking it.

Well, guess I’d better get going. I have laundry that is calling my name! Why is it that laundry never calls anyone else’s name?? Catch you later.
