:) Hi Everyone - Sure am enjoying this site - you all are amazing women!! Gives me incentive to stick to it. Went to see "The King's Speech" today. It is great! I can see why it is getting nominated for all kinds of awards. I had a small popcorn (no butter)& a diet coke & still within my points for the day. Really wanted Milk Duds, but I didn't even look at them. I can't seem to get started exercising though - I keep putting it off. I don't know why. I know it's not my favorite thing to do but don't mind it all that much. I need a kick in the butt!! Hope everyone is having a great weekend. That chili recipe looks yummy Jess. Big "Atta Girl" there Tea & Bunti !!

Hi G.G.s,
We’ve had lovely, sunny weather today! (Sorry, everyone who’s still experiencing the cold & gloomy & snowy stuff - wish I could share.) (KarenMO, I guess we are sharing the nice weather!) SO & I did get out & walk around town for about an hour & a half. Really enjoyed it. And, today was weigh in day, & I’ve lost 2 more pounds. Yay! for me! And Yay! to Bunti for the 1.8 lb. loss!

KarenFL, were you kidding about the tiny fork? I prefer to eat with small utensils. I always use a salad fork when I eat at home. I’m thinking about buying a fork & spoon set for babies (for me), if I can find one in stainless steel that I like. I guess that’s just an odd quirk I have, & I’ve never encountered anyone else that has it.

Zoe, a trip to Asheville? Did something happen to your nephew that I missed?! And I really don’t think our nice weather will hold out that long. Sorry! Thanks for the warning about aspartame. I will research it, but I really love it…..

Tea Granny, good for you on the exercise! Other than walking, I can’t seem to force myself to do any. So, Laffalot, I can really sympathize with you about that. At least you’re doing good with your eating. I’ve managed to keep losing, so far, without doing a lot of exercise, but of course it’s better if you do it.

Donna, thanks for the chili recipe. Wendy’s is my favorite, & I’m always trying to duplicate it. Now I can!

Mary, good for you on all the walking! And, Lynn, sorry about the SNOW!

Once again I’ve been typing too long, & I’ve got some new library books I want to get started on! ‘Night everyone.

fast ps....yes NancyNc I love using a tiny fork. Both of us use regular salad forks instead of dinner forks and i found these wee forks in kmart. This fork is only this wide .......
They have black plastic handles. really cheap but perfect. Can't shovel in everything in one bite....forces me to enjoy. k3

Speaking of tiny flatware, DH and I both use tiny baby spoons whenever we eat dessert. I usually have a SF pudding at night and always use the tiny spoon for the same reason KarenFla does, I can't shovel it in so fast. I have a set of tiny pickle forks, maybe I should start using those too? I have my meals gone so much quicker than dh's, he takes his time. I don't know why I'm such a fast eater, maybe in the back of my mind I think I can slip the calories past my body calorie monitor and they won't count. I've tried putting my fork down on the plate between meals, that doesn't work either. We use chop sticks with stir-fry, that really slows me down. I could start eating all my meals with chop sticks or pickle forks. I'm gonna try the tiny forks.
I'm skipping church today, really bad headache. Makes me want to eat some raisin bars I made dh yesterday. NOT!

Good Morning,
I think I've posted this before but it's a good reminder. Please print this out and email it to all your friends in your address book. Then use it yourself. :comp:

Every week I receive many jokes, chain letters, etc. with long lists of address headers at the top. Here is the way to send e-mail to a group of people the same message without broadcasting all those addresses. I do not want my address know to everyone, that’s a good way to pick up viruses. In the future, please use this fool proof way of sending me e-mail.
Blind Courtesy Copy
The Bcc line is the way to go. By default, Outlook Express hides this useful feature, but you can easily get to it with a couple of mouse clicks. Open a new message window, click View and Select all Headers.
A new line, Bcc, will appear right below the To, From, and Cc fields. Enter your own address in the To field and the address of each recipient in the Bcc field. Each recipient will only see your address and their own.
Don’t touch that forward button until you know how to use it!
It is annoying to have to scroll through several attached messages before getting to the actual e-mail body. If you want to send a joke to your friends, do them a favor by deleting all those message headers, especially if you are sending it to an entire group of people. It’s very simple to do. Click the Forward button, highlight all the message headers, hit Delete (on your keyboard) and THEN hit send. The joke will be much more welcome, believe me.

Good Morning, All...
Pretty day... doing laundry... house smells good! Nothing going on, though!!

I hope you all enjoy that chili recipe. It's nothing, I'm SURE, like the TX versions, but it's nice and girly and purty and good.

PT/Zoe, why are you going to Asheville? I would think that any excuse to get out of the Igloo would be a good one! How IS your nephew, BTW? I hope your trip is warm and dry!

Bobbi, you haven't mentioned the headaches for a while until today... do you have any idea what triggered this one? Be well!

Freda, where are you??? You're starting to make us nervous!

No news!

Laffalot, we ARE an amazing group of women! And welcome to all the newbies! Be warm, dry, and safe.............

Hi Everyone,

I was VERY sick last night. Up every hour. Not sure if it was a virus or food poisining.

Just had a little applesauce and toast. We'll see if it stays down.

Lynn

Hi G.G.s,
Another pretty, sunny day here today! Such a nice break from the cold winter yuck.

KarenFL & Bobbi, I was thrilled to hear others like using small forks & spoons. I thought I was the only one! Next time I’m in Kmart, I’ll look for the forks you mentioned, KarenFL.

Bobbi, I’m so sorry about your headache. Hope is was short-lived, & that you’re over it by now! Oh, & thanks for the tip about forwarding emails.

Lyn, I couldn’t see your pics of your kitties. Can everyone else see them? Am I doing something wrong?! I really would like to see them.

Lynn, sorry you were sooo sick last night! Sure hope the food helps, & that you're over it now!

Hi Donna, good thing you mentioned laundry. That reminded me I have a load in the washer I need to start! Then I’m headed outside to enjoy this lovely weather.

Later y’all.

Well, after having spent so much of last week moaning and whining here, I'm a little hesitant to announce further unpleasant news, but I'm afraid I'd don't have much choice. We're heading down to Asheville because the doctors are telling my sister that they want to take my nephew off life support; he evidently needs to be able to cough - and have a gag reflex (?) - in order to breathe without the ventilator, and he doesn't have either. They're saying that they may have to do a tracheotomy in order for him to breathe? She says that he is lucid at times, and at other times, not, but can't talk, of course, because of the tube down his throat. His left side was affected by the stroke, and he's left-handed, so has been attempting to write - to communicate - with his right hand, but without much success. The doctors are saying that if he in fact makes it past this, he will probably be wheelchair-bound for the rest of his life, and need the tracheotomy to breathe. I don't know about eating. There's a lot we don't know yet. My sister is an emotional wreck, and her other son from Florida, and her daughter from Ohio have been there with her since this happened, but they both have to get back to jobs. So, dh & I are driving down Thursday morning, and my girls are flying down Friday morning. We'll pick them up at the airport. My sis has been through so much, trying to keep this son of hers alive - the malignant brain tumor, years of chemo, radiation (can only do that once, apparently) - and then he had fungal meningitis and almost went that time. I don't really know what she'll do if she loses him now. Anyway, that's why we're going to Asheville. Please send prayers and good intentions.
The snow is so bad up here - there's literally no room for more than one car to drive on the side streets, the driveways and streets have huge, got to be ten or twelve foot snowbanks piled on each side - you can't see whether anyone's coming or not...I've had to back up a number of times to let another car get through...if people are walking, there's no place to walk except down the middle of the road...it's become dangerous as well as tiresome and stressful. This is SO not fun...not even tolerable, really, but nobody has any choice in the matter, after all.
On the PLUS side....hmmmm....we have to dress in so many layers going outside that it's impossible to tell how much anybody weighs...??? My clothes are continuing to loosen up, which is a help for sure, and little "Kit" still performs and plays and entertains dh & I constantly, AND we're heading over to dd's shortly for dinner. No cooking for yours truly today, and we'll be able to play a bit with the twinnies. AND the sun is out, shining prettily off the snow...oh brother, did I mention SNOW? (I was trying to think about other things).
My sis loves my pasta sauce (with kale and all the veggies and turkey sausage and ground turkey meatballs with Fiber One instead of breadcrumbs) so I'm going to make some to take down to her. I know she probably hasn't eaten much more than a scrap of food all week long.
Over and out...hope all is well with the GG's today!

Bunti 01-30-2011 02:12 PM

Good morning everyone.

Hope you are feeling better Lynn. Food poisoning or stomach flu....neither are any fun.

Jess, thanks for the recipe.

Bobbi, Karen, Laffalot, Nancy-- I use small flatware too. And if I have dessert, I use a cocktail fork or a baby spoon. I use the baby spoon for things like yogurt or jello as well. Can't use my smaller spoons for soup though-less than a teaspoon feels silly. We have switched to smaller plates most of the time, too. Right now we are using 9 inch salad plates, but the rim makes them even smaller. My mother used to have some 10 inch plates. In cooking school they taught us that it was best to never put anything but garnish on the rim of a plate....even if the rim is 2 inches wide. At home though, my family always thought they weren't getting enough food if the plate didn't look really full.

Mary, I want to be where you are. 70 degrees sounds wonderful!

Ladies, there have been some really good on plan weeks for us here, wahoo!! Support sure helps.

Zoe, I had started to remark on SAD (it is real), when I went advanced and saw your post. I am so sorry to hear your news regarding your nephew. Sending prayers in the direction of your family hoping for the best outcome. For the last 15 years I have facilitated a weekly support group for "Parents of special needs children" and the "kids" may be kids, or adult children. There is hope and support out there, I hope it finds your sister, so that they feel less alone. With my son, in the acute phase after his accident, when we didn't know if he would be able to come back from the extensive damage, or if he did, how much of him would be left, my having to make decisions regarding his permanent quality of life was horrible and stressful; the hospital social worker and the family center really helped- I hope your family is at a facility where they have such folks on staff. Best of wishes for your family. My sister was there for me too, and it meant so much to me, just knowing it.

Bobbi, thanks for the posting hints.

Karen3 01-30-2011 02:58 PM

Good midday you all....Finally the sun burned thru the sea fog. It stayed wispy with tiny streams of gray hovering along the canal top. Apparently sea gulls like mistletoe berries as they are swooping down and grabbing something out of the tree. Sea Gull ballet!

Zoe...Your nephew has been in my prayers and so is your sister. She needs your arms. I checked the weather and Asheville even in the mountains is better than Mass. Possible snow flurry Friday. Are you two driving? Had to ask cause wasn't sure how you'd get your pasta sauce on a plane. Looked back and see you are driving. Have a safe trip and check in when you need some cyber hugs.

That Damn ground hog is due out Wednesday. If he sees his shadow lets make hog soup!

Lynn...hope you feel better.

Bobbie...Hasn't your doctor been away? Maybe missed treatments brought on tense muscles and that headache.

Funny how something we percieve as a personal foible is shared by so many of us. I have been using salad plates and forks for years and kinda hide my setting when we have company. Turns out more than once they requested smaller, too.

Still have some strawberries...will serve them with sf cheesecake pudding. We get the best berries because they can't ship them ripe.

Stay warm...hugs,karen3

Good Evening GG's! It has been a quiet Sunday here and I like it. Went to church this morning and then went to the grocery store this afternoon. Picked up the ingredients to make the cabbage veggie soup. Today was 40 degree colder than yesterday!! We have a Winter Storm Warning out until Wednesday! And our high temp. is supposed to be 9 degrees!! So thinking a nice pot of cabbage veggie soup sounds really good!! Also the Chili--I used to manage the Wendy's store in Woodland Park, CO. and I love their chili!! I loved getting a big deluxe salad with a large bowl of chili and shredded cheese---taco salad!! By the time I got done with making mine---it wasn't low calorie anymore though--but it was sure good!!

Zoe, be careful driving on those roads. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Karen--I'm with you--- groundhog stew!! YUMMY!!!

Well, not much news from this neck of the woods tonight. Will check back later.
