glynne 01-21-2011 03:43 PM

Woops ~ don't know what I did ~ I wasn't finished and hit something and posted. Well it is better than losing it I guess :dizzy:

Freda ~ glad you are feeling better, now hope your hubby and nephew are on the mend.

Mary ~ enjoy your travels ~ hope your back feels better

Laffalot ~ welcome :)

Hello to Emaline, NancyMI, Lily, Becky, DebbieOBX and Lola

Has been a productive day here. Finished the sewing project for work, thank you notes for Christmas gifts, getting stuff ready for work tomorrow. I like when I can get the stuff done early in the day, so I can just sort of relax in the evening before heading back to work.

Hope you all are having a good day.

Take care

maryea 01-21-2011 05:38 PM

Hi everyone! My back is better though gets a little worse in the evenings. I'm hoping I can stop using the muscle relaxants soon.

We got in a good walk today. Came back and quickly cleaned house (RV). Sat out on the patio reading a mystery book which I finished today. It was by Lisa Gardner and called The Neighbor. Kinda wierd and different but it kept my attention. Then shared a lunch at the clubhouse with dh but then overate this afternoon. So will have to be very very good tonight or I'll go over for the day in everything.

It is cool in the shade today but the sun is shining and feels good.

Hope you are all having a good day!

Hi all,

Much to my surprise and delight, my Wii told me I had lost 3 pounds yesterday! This was right after a good workout at Planet Fitness - but I'll take it!

We missed all that snow here on the Cape - just misty rain. Now the temps are dropping quickly into the teens.

Wow, Bunti...that's something about relying on barges for your food and stuff. Sounds like a different kind of life up there.

I'll have to try the "Outlander" series. I love to read and curling up with a book this cold weekend sounds like just the ticket.

Hope everyone is feeling better - those dealing with colds, headaches, backaches etc.

My DH is practicing his clarinet right now and scaring me and the cats to death. He just took it up again after 30 years. Anyone heard of the New Horizons Bands? They are all over the country for folks who want to pick up their instruments again ...he likes it.

Well, time to make supper.

Lyn

Hello again,

I think I will REALLY like this course. The teacher is VERY passionate about photography. I have always enjoyed teachers who love their subjects.

My assignment for this week is to take 100 digital pictures of light/shadow. Although we will take them in color, we will change them to black and white during our next class.

Interesting - as I was driving home, I looked at things with different eyes. When you are thinking about making a photograph, you see more details in the things you look at.

OK - on to beans. I got some hummus today - NG. WAY too salty. I will make my own this weekend. I think hummus is kind of like stuffing - everyone likes their own.

Have a good evening,

Lynn

Hey G.G.s,
I finally got here early, for me anyway.

Been dealing with insurance & money issues today. More bad news! I’m starting to wonder if there’s any other kind! Medically though, SO’s doing good (& I know that’s more important!). He’s doing his physical therapy at home to save money (they gave him 4 pages of exercises to do), & I think he’s showing a lot of improvement. Of course he’s impatient & wants to be able to do more.

Sounds like everyone’s hanging in there & doing good with the eating. Looking good, Rosey! Yay! And, KarenMO, 2 more pounds! Yay! for you! And, Lyn, 3 lbs. is great! Yay! again!

Has anyone else tried using sausage seasoning in their ground turkey recipes? A friend’s mother taught me to do that, many years ago. I mix it in with the ground meat before I cook it. I’ve used it like that to replace the ground beef in spaghetti sauce, chili, sloppy joes, tacos, etc. Even people that swore they hated ground turkey had to admit they liked it. Of course I didn’t tell them what it was, until after they’d said that! They didn’t even know it wasn’t beef until I told them.

Well, I’ve got a book I want to finish (gotta find out “whodunit”).

‘Night Everyone,
NCNancy

Evening all, we have a new supper guest every night, a cute little baby skunk. It was 26 below zero last I heard and so much snow that all the critters are hungry. This little gal I named 'Petunia' comes up our driveway and eats bird seeds that DH throws out on the cement for the birds. Petunia hasn't found the feeders in the back yard yet, lots of spilled seeds back there and we don't want her to find them. She lives down the road in an old shed that has a convenient square opening next to the ground. Looks like it was a door for chickens at one time. DH decided to walk down there with some more seeds and a cup of dog food. He's not going to throw seeds on the driveway anymore, can you imagine what would happen if we let Charlie out to do his business and he chased and caught her?
Zoe...what kind of plan are you on now? You probably told us before but I forgot. Are you plateauing?

Whoever asked, yes I'm still going to Dr. Bones 3 times a week and it takes up my whole morning. That's why I haven't been as gabby lately. Today DH went in for a treatment too. (Too much snow shoveling + pulling snow off the roof) While I was waiting for him, the massage therapist asked me if I wants a free massage. Oh gosh, I thought I'd died and went to heaven. It was a good move on her part because I scheduled an appointment next week, $35.00 for 1/2 hour. What's the going rate where you all live?
I need to go back a couple of days and re-read all the post before I do personals. I just skimmed over them due to no time.
See Ya:wave:
Did you see in International Fall, Mn. it was minus 46 degrees below zero. Now that's cold.

Good Morning All! I'm sure hoping that **** week is over - I really don't think that I can take much more :( Last night I got a letter from a friend that I haven't heard from for awhile - she lives at the other end of the continent and doesn't so computers - she didn't even send out Christmas cards this year - which should have alerted me that something was really wrong. In her letter she told me that her first Great Grand child - who had just been born when I saw her in September had been killed at the beginning of November by his father. What do say to someone that tells you that? How can you give any true comfort, to her or her Granddaughter who has moved back in with her?? I feel like the most useless person on the planet right now - weeping over a letter and a photo , and unable to DO anything....:(

Good Morning, All...
Oh, TeaGranny, I was so sad to read your post! What a horrible thing to have happened! All you can do is to offer your thoughts and prayers and then to say your prayers... And be sure you call your friend often, just to check in with her...

KarenFL, I ordered the first two Donati Wilderness books (they're hard to come by, on the cheap!)... I'm looking forward to another absorbing read! Thanks to all for the recommendation. And how did your cabbage turn out? I like mine with chunks of onion and turkey kielbasa.... yum... and I always put dill weed on the cabbage.

Bunti, I think I've read most of the Amelia Peabody books... she makes me laugh out loud! In a way, she and Emerson remind me of Claire and Jamie, the women sly and quick witted and the men paternalistic and amused. And how did you end up in Alaska? I know Rosey's story, but I don't know yours, and I find all things Alaskan fascinating! I hope your barges were filled to the brim with goodies!!

Lyn, you might enjoy the Outlander series, if you can just get through the first 100 pages of "OMG, what is going ON here????????"... and then they "click" and get to be very entertaining!

Lynn, so glad you're liking the class. I admire you so much.... you have so many interests and are so interesting!

NCNancy, what is sausage seasoning? Is this something that comes in a packet or do you make it yourself? I like ground turkey, but it can be kind of blah, so the seasoning interests me.... do tell!

Bobbi, glad Dr. Bones is helping!

PT/Zoe, just a yo to you!

Since I got the waterbed heater replaced, it's like having a warm massage on that sciatic nerve for hours every night, and I'm almost civil again. It's so good to not hurt! I have high hopes for full recovery! This old age stuff SUCKS....

And on that note, I'm signing off for today... stuff to do, places to go, food to eat.... Everyone, have a good Saturday! Warm, dry, and safe, everyone!!
:dizzy:

Bobbolink 01-22-2011 01:14 PM

Tea Granny....I'm so sorry for your friend's great grand child, how very tragic. It's hard when your friend lives across the continent, knowing she contacted you in her grief probably is helping. Just write her and say what's in your heart.

ladyinweighting 01-22-2011 01:46 PM

Good Morning Everyone,

Has anyone ever gotten a “Where’s George” dollar? I got one today. It has a stamp with a website “www.wheresgeorge.com” When you go to the site, you put in the serial number and you get a listing of everyplace the dollar has travelled. I was only the 2nd person to track this, so it had not travelled too far. Started in Derry, PA and ended up in Princeton, NJ (where I was at a restaurant with my DF).

Got to the gym this morning, then to lunch with my DF, will take a nap this afternoon & fix supper for my DD & SIL – stuffed flounder, sweet potato fried, salad, peas w mushrooms, and baked apples for dessert.

Hi Tea,

I am so sorry. Just horrible. Please send your friend our best wishes. My cousin’s adult son was murdered several years ago. All you can do is be there for the survivors.

Hi Donna,

I have tried reading her books a few times – never got through any. However, today, I got a copy on CD’s from the library. I plan to try listening to it this week. Sometimes, I like books to listen to that I did NOT like to read. I’ll let you know.

Hi everyone! We drove into Quartzsite today and enjoyed the big tent but it was the opening and VERY crowded. Guess we should have waited and gone Monday. But we leave here Tuesday so thought we'd be busy with other things. We bought some toys for our gc and I bought a bottle of a stir-fry sauce for our older son who loves to cook. We shared some ice cream before we left and then stopped for a hamburger outside the tent area where it was cheaper and no long lines. We were both pretty tired by then. Low 70s today and beautiful.

Hi G.G.s,
Just wanted to check in. Saturday’s my weigh-in day (though I check my weight every morning). I’ve lost 2 lbs. this week, down to 161! Yay! me!

Tea Granny, so sorry for your friend’s loss. Like you, I would have no idea what to say. I have to agree with the others that the best you can do is offer your prayers & sympathy & support.

Donna, I get my sausage seasoning in a package, but it’s getting hard to find. Winn Dixie carried some that came in an 8oz. plastic jar (Astor brand) & was on the spice aisle, but we don’t have Winn Dixies around here anymore. The last time I found some, at an IGA store, it was in a small bag, near the meat counter. I might end up making my own when this runs out. I just goggled it & found several recipes.

Speaking of stores, I have to brag. A local grocery store was tripling coupons today. I bought 7-6oz. containers of yogurt, a 16oz. jar of peanut butter, an 8oz. bag of cheese puffs, an 8oz. tube of toothpaste, & some deodorant - all name brands, & spent just $5.00! I think that’s pretty good! I used to do better than that, but I've gotten lazy.

Lynn, I have gotten “Where’s George” dollars, but I never went to the website. Guess I’m not as curious as you.

Hope everyone’s staying warm (Mary, I guess you don't have to worry about that) & doing good with their eating!

‘Night All,
NCNancy

I'm going to bed too, just wanted to comment Nancy on the sausage seasoning. I buy mine at the meat counter at the grocery store. It's not put out for sale, you have to ask for it. They use it to season the ground pork for sausage. The bag was only a few bucks and it seasons 25 pounds of meat. I keep it in the foil bags, in a jar and stored in the freezer. I happen to ask them once what I could use to make ground elk into breakfast sausage and that's how I happen to get it.
