Well, we’re all plowed/shoveled/blown out, and I was back at work – although not in my office – yesterday. Had meetings back-to-back in Boston all day long. Dh’s stomach is still very queasy – apparently this GI virus can linger on for two weeks or so – so I’m not making *real* suppers for the duration. He’s worked his way up from ginger ale and jello to oatmeal and now he’s managing ham & cheese sandwiches. I had shrimp scampi on my dinner menu for tonight, but he didn’t think he’d be able to manage that, so I’m going to have two Quorn (faux) chicken patties. I LOVE them! I just have them on a piece of pita with some lite Miracle Whip. I guess I’m essentially a very simple person when you come right down to it. I betcha if I were all alone, I’d pretty much live on stuff like that. I really like the black bean Mexican something-or-other burgers, too….can’t remember who makes them, tho. I’ve stayed OP all week, and am feeling pretty decent. Don’t know if I’ve dropped any weight – I’d settle for a pound – and I’m not sure that I’ll be weighing myself this weekend. Might wait a month from when I got serious, and hope to see a nice loss of 3 or 4 pounds when I finally get on the scale. SO glad that today’s Friday, and am feeling somewhat optimistic about how quickly the weeks fly by. Am considering waiting until September to retire, and if I do that, it may make sense to just work through the end of the year. I am still see-sawing back and forth on the whole issue. :?:
NCNancy, my dh & I really never argue or get confrontational – I had enough of that with my first husband – but with him retired and home all the time while I’m running from pillar to post for my job and then trying to keep up with family and such on the weekends (and some weeknights) I do tend to get annoyed with him from time to time. I guess I would have to say that I go from warm and cozy to very cool and distant, depending on how busy I am and how much he seems to be *relaxing* in my absence. Mostly, we’re fine, but I DO value time to myself occasionally, and that’s something I only rarely get since he is very careful about getting any errands he has to run done during the day, and ALWAYS being at the door to greet me when I get home. I guess he thinks it’s a *nice* thing for him to do, no matter how often I tell him it would be fine with me if he were to go out later – even go out some evenings on his own. Not happening, apparently. With my being sick last week and home Wednesday through Sunday, things got a little close in there, and that’s the truth. It does give me cause to worry a little about what it might be like once I retire. I don’t want to have to constantly be going out to get a little time alone.
Okay, Rosy! Nice ticker! Nice progress, too! You’re on your way, Girlie…
Oh, PT – Samcat is just lovely! So regal! I just love the way cats look like they possess some secret knowledge that we poor servants aren’t privy to. And who knows – maybe they do, eh?) I was afraid that having Turtlecat (whose name has morphed into “The Kid” or “Lil’ Kid”) neutered would take away some of his charming rambunctiousness, but no…he’s just as much the rascal as ever, and very purry. He likes to hide in our canvas shopping bags or under the bed covers…likes to be inside in warm, dark places, apparently. I have to be careful getting into bed at night. Sometimes he manages to stretch himself out so you can’t tell he’s there under the big comforters. I’m so glad he found us! :D
Karen3, I think you’re right about finding what works for you, personally, when it comes to losing weight. We all seem to have slight twists on whatever plan we’re following. I haven’t used Fitday every day THIS time, as I’ve made a menu that I can print out, and then hand-write in any changes. Somehow, I work better with something I can hold in my hand and write on, and not have to log onto the computer to see. I use my custom foods list on Fitday to make up my menus, though.
Great pics, Lynn! Looks like you three just have the best times together! What course did you end up auditing? I think we can do that for free here in MA, too. I think I’ll mention it to dh. Maybe things are changing – it looks like he may be working at least part time at Old Sturbridge Village, and maybe he could audit some history courses. I bet he’d enjoy that, and it would certainly provide some food for thought and discussion at home.
Karen31, omigawd. I can’t get over you and that Wii !!! You and MY dh ought to get together! You could romp around the island on your bikes and hula hoop your way across the globe – and maybe he’d stop trying to get ME to do it!!!!!
Hey Bobbi…oh, heavenly…off hunting, is he? Well, if he gets himself some game, looks like you’ll be busy processing and freezing it, correct? That and all your other cooking. Sorry about your daughter….this certainly does seem to be an awfully tough virus to beat. Just hangs on forever.
Freda, nuh-uh. I’m not starting any new parties. I just flat out don’t CARE anymore who does what or doesn’t do anything at all. I used to think that individuals could have a voice in government, and that things could improve, but all I ever see, no matter what party is in control, is that we take a few steps forward and ten or twelve back. I’m figuring that if somebody wants to get elected, they’re mostly doing it for the power and the perks. They’re certainly not doing it to help the common man/woman. 99.9% of them use whatever name recognition they manage to drum up to line their own pockets. As far as I’m concerned, they’re just another layer of society that I have nothing to do with, and want nothing to do with. What, me, bitter? Heaven forbid!
Hi Lyn – nice to see you again, and glad you’re enjoying life on the cape. It certainly is a nice spot to retire to.
Gayle, a pound down is way better than a pound up, right? Good going. I really think you’ve got a handle on it this time around, girlfriend. Just hang in there. You’ll show that dh of yours yet! Oh, and I hope the hospital is PAYING for those contraptions? (Maybe you could sell the idea to some manufacturer out there and make yourself a bundle of money!)
Hope you’re feeling better, Bunti.
Are you out of AZ yet, Mary?
Okay, enough out of this here chick. I need to do some work. Have a great (warm) day, y’all!

Good Morning! I did my weigh in on the Wii this morning and was very happy!! I've lost 4.9 lbs. since I started using it on the
7th! :carrot: According to fitday if I stay at this rate, I will be at my goal in 12 weeks. Of course, we all know about the slow downs so I just want to take the 4.9lbs for now and keep using the Wii.

Well, I ended up sleeping in this morning but wanted to come and check in here first before going ahead with the fitness part of the Wii. So I'll be back later on in the day. Take care everyone.

jess1 01-14-2011 12:13 PM

Good Morning, All...
Chilly right now, but it's supposed to get up to about 50. Maybe SamCat and I will take a wee jaunt later on.

Rosey, glad you got your weight squigglie going! You're doing so well!! And I'm not surprised that sugar is an icky for you. If I eat sugar after I've been off it for a while, it's instant diarrhea. It works great if I'm feeling bloated! I'm just very, very carb sensitive, and it sounds like you are, too.

NCNancy, thanks for your kind words about SamCat. He looks pretty good for 17, doesn't he? When I come back AGAIN, I want to be one of my cats (please! NOT AGAIN!)

Bobbi, good experience at the chiro's? I hope so!!

PT/Zoe, here's a pressie for you: http://allrecipes.com//Recipe/homema...rs/Detail.aspx

It sounds like you, Freda, and I are on the same page politically, that being: BAH on them all!!! And I'm STILL glad I'm not married any longer! It's annoying to have to do the shoveling and it's sometimes scary to have to handle every little difficulty myself, but it's certainly peaceful!

KarenMO, 5# in a week??? Good grief, girlie! Yes, that's impressive, but.... Please pace yourself! You will truly be a mere shadow of your former self!!

Gotta run.... more errands to do today, boring but necessary stuff!

Lynn, how do I get the picture SMALLER??????????? I want one that can be a part of my signature, as KarenMO has with Sissy and Ginger.

Everyone, be warm, dry, and.... yes! SAFE! :D

Karen3 01-14-2011 12:56 PM

Hello from the sunshine state of deep chill. High of 52 today but this is hopefully the last day of cold....or so they lie so the tourists will stay! Been out and about with errands. Got 4 big Florida tomatoes. They look and taste just like Jersey tomatoes. Have lots of chile to put a chopped up chunk of tomato on....another tacoless tacl salad for moi.

Have you ever tried Paul Newman's southwest dressing. I put a spoonful of that with ff sour cream and pow that lights up the salad. Dh said he'd like a salad, too. And then complained about "hot" lettuce! Can we Can we Can we line them all up and slap them all silly! Pleeeeeeeease!

Had another evening where had to have a bowl of vegies to get over 1000cal. Something has really changed when a bowl of vegies feels like cheating. Am wearing a velour shirt bought so long ago....1989? or earlier....and Dh told me he can see the difference. But think i feel thinner because of all those beans....the gas is making me as light as air...not! Let see in vegie pot have kidney, lima, black, chickpea and navy beans. Plus the snacks of roast garbanzos..plus the chili...and chickpea salad for lunch. See a pattern? South Beach recommends using beans, but think am over the top. sighhhhhh

Gotta make a quick lunch...BBL to do personals....karen3

Karen31 01-14-2011 01:17 PM

Hey--got my hour in and now I'm relaxing a bit before I decide what to have for lunch.

Donna, when you go to UserCP at the top, then click edit signature, Scroll way down towards the bottom and there it will let you browse your photos that you would like to add to your signature. Find it and once you have it click save. That should do it.

Zoe, I really am having a good time with the Wii. I want to get most of the basics down and then add more later. I did the basic run this morning and did 1.61 miles in the 10 minutes. I think it is kind of neat that it keeps challenging you to move forward. And what I like is the wii scales and my bathroom scales are pretty much the same. My bathroom scales showed 179 this morning (of course I'm not dressed when I weigh there) and it doesn't show tenths. So I allow the -2lbs for my clothes and they are just pretty darn close.. Can't complain.

Karen3, I have never tried the Paul Newman Dressings. I like Otts and it is made right here in Carthage. They have the regular and fat free kind. Check out www.ottfoods.com I know several people that order from them because they can buy it where they live. I like beans too--- I should get out my southbeach book and look at the recipes. Right now I'm enjoying Slimfast for breakfast--never been much of a breakfast eater unless it was for supper!

Well, better get going. This day is going to slip away too fast and I won't have anything done except 60 minutes on the Wii!!

jess1 01-14-2011 01:58 PM

KarenMO, that's what I did.... and the picture was HUGE! Did you see it before I removed it? I want a little one, like you have of your girlies. How did you get yours shrunk down to size?

ladyinweighting 01-14-2011 02:02 PM

Hi Everyone,

NSV – my DD got me a pant suit from Chico’s for Christmas. The pants were size 2 (before I lost all my weight, I used to wear size 3). My Christmas pants were too BIG. Went to Chico’s today and size 1 fit perfectly!!!!!!!!!

I pick up my DD & SIL at the airport on Sunday. I plan to make a meat loaf and some mashed potatoes for them. I will have it at their house for their return.

Registered to audit a course for the Spring semester. It starts next week. I am looking forward to it.

Have a great day everyone,

Lynn

Hi Zoe,
We make pretty good travelmates. We had some problems when we first started traveling together – after my DH died. After a couple of stressful trips, I sat them down & said that either we needed to change things or I would not be traveling with them anymore. Luckily for me, they decided to make some changes. We have found compromises & now our trips are VERY enjoyable.
I selected 5 courses – history, literature, art, nutrition, and digital photos. My DF chose the digital photography course. We have to pay a % of the total cost - $150 instead of $450. This is the first time I have been eligible for the Senior rate.

Hmmmm – I am not sure how you got the large photo. I have never tried to get one of my own photos in my signature. Karen will have to teach us.

I just read the first bit of this thread so I presume it's okay for me to put this on here.
I decided to write a blog of my past (and present) as I thought it would be very carthartic. However I was not prepared for the emotional upset it has caused me and have at times ended up weeping profusely and not being able to sleep. I am beginning to wonder whether this si such a good idea. What do you think?...:?:

maryea 01-14-2011 02:43 PM

We are still in AZ but will be close to the CA border by tomorrow eve. We just don't like to travel for hours each day, and esp with my poor back killing me.
The pickup is running nicely ...well it should after spending $4405! Hopefully we can get home without any more work having to be done as we have spent almost everything we had saved for a newer car. So we are hoping when we get home we can sell the rig and replenish our new car fund. I am still coughing some (more 2 weeks now!) but my back is hurting bad...esp gets worse in the evenings. Same old thing I get 2-3 times a hear though. I am using the muscle relaxants and asa. I do have 2 hydrocodan if I really need it but prefer not to take it.

akrosey49 01-14-2011 02:46 PM

Hi Emma,

:grouphug::grouphug::grouphug: I am sending you HUGS!

IMHO, you might want to change direction with your blog.

You have had a LOT of sadness and pain in your life. When I was younger, I used to keep journals and often wrote about the sad things. I found that to focus on these things made me re-live them over and over. I burned them a few years ago.

I know that we need to face up to the sad things that have happened, but I think we need to be with a professional counselor when we do that. My DH died in 2006. I have 2 photo albums that are filled with photos of us. 1 from our 25 years of happy days and 1 from the last 2 years of his life after his stroke – VERY difficult years. Last summer, I decided to look at them. I called a grief counselor & made an appointment to look at them with her. I knew that they would evoke MANY sad feelings and I wanted to have someone with me who could help me deal with the sadness.

I try to focus on positive things. Every morning, I write something that I am grateful for. This morning, I was grateful that photos of my DD's marathon were found (we thought that they had been lost and she was VERY sad).

Emma, calories are calories. Calorie-wise, it really does not matter to your body whether your calories are from string beans or cookies. (Of course, nutritionally, the string beans are better, but if you watch your calories, you can eat a couple of cookies every day.) Don’t beat yourself up when you fall off the wagon. Every day is a new day. Success is not about our never falling, it is about picking ourselves up and trying again after we fall.

We are here for you,

Lynn

Karen31 01-14-2011 05:11 PM

Donna, this is what I use when I need to resize a photo-- it is pretty simple and I like simple! http://www.shrinkpictures.com/

But it is really funny that I have tried to figure out how to make a BIG picture like you had and it always comes out small. Try that and see if it works.

glynne 01-14-2011 06:14 PM

Hello GG,

Well, I goofed up time wise and ran out of time to do the personals again. Sorry ~ will have to wait until next week after work. I've been taking notes though :) so hopefully it will make it a little easier.

Send the husband smacking team here next. Mine is good sometimes and aggravating at others. Last night, I got to thinking that I hadn't seen a WomanWithin (what used to be Lane Bryant) catalog for a while. Asked him (cause he always gets the mail) if they had stopped coming. He said, no, there is a whole stack of them over here (in the corner behind his desk). I think he (but probably would not admit this is the reason) didn't give them to me ~ thinking that if I didn't look at them, I wouldn't be seeing something I thought I had to have and spend any money. Grrrrrr

I think I mentioned the other day that I got a new mask for my C-pap machine. It seemed more comfortable at first, but when I woke up in the morning, there were these big red square impressions in my forehead and it was so sore ~ almost felt like it was bruised. Frustrating masks, one kind will cause pain in one place, you get a different one and it makes pain in a different place. Tried some padding last night, it helped a little, but still sore this morning. Trying a different way to pad it tonight. Hope it works.

Oh, I was thinking of Donna and her sciatic pain and getting in and out of the car. This might make her chuckle. I have that as well, and getting in and out of my vehicle aggravates it too. We have one of those RAV4 (Toyota) and it is higher than what we had before. I have to lift my leg up pretty high for me to get into it (didn't seem so much when we first got it). Anyway, I fixed up a small box to use as sort of something to step on to help me get in easier. I tried it out in my garage and it worked well. Then I got to thinking ~ if I used this thing when I was out and about ~ once I got into the vehicle, how was I to get my box? Silly me. :o So, I attached an old purse strap to it and can now haul it up after I get in. Probably looks silly if someone were to see me, but I don't care. It seems to have worked ~ and at least the getting into the vehicle no longer causes that pain. My silly husband teases me and calles it my pet box. Does that qualify for another smack? LOL.

To end on a more positive note, today was my lucky day. I went for a haircut. I go to one of those Supercuts places and it seems they have quite a turn over of people. Sometimes for a few times in a row, I will be lucky and the same person is still there, but for a while, every time I went, I would ask for the one I'd had before (if they had done a good job) and been told they were no longer there. So, I'd been dragging my feet ~ dreading that it would be yet another one and then worrying how my hair would turn out. Well, the same lady was there this time and I didn't lucked out and no one was ahead of me ~ so I got to go right in. :D

Got some stuff to do now to get ready for the weekend of work. Hope you all have a good weekend.

Take care

akrosey49 01-14-2011 06:43 PM

Glynne you make me chuckel with your "pet box" as i have one too and many other homemade reachers and grabbers to make my life easier so heres to all our little inventions:cheers: rosey

jess1 01-15-2011 01:19 AM

Lynn, this humongous picture is 39 kb, so it shouldn't show up this big!! I followed the directions.... user cp, add signature picture (at bottom), browse, upload, blah, blah, blah, blah.......... I'm going to try Karen's shrinkpicture.com..... weird, huh?
