Good Morning, All...
Lynn, I saw Jersey Boys at the Arvada Center here, several years ago... and, yes, WONDERFUL!! I love musicals!

Chilly this morning! I'm meeting my SIL at Wendy's in a couple of hours, looking forward to that. Otherwise, the day is open for anything!

Got the low-pressure problem fixed. My HandyGod was able to fix it over the phone with advice that worked. Life is GOOD!

Status quo on everything. I'm going to pick up some chia seeds on my way home from Wendy's. Has anyone had a problem with constipation with them... or do they do the opposite? I'm anxious to try them for the appetite suppression, especially in the evenings, my worst times for mindless snacking.

PT/Zoe, hope your weekend was good. Everyone, everyone!, be safe. Happy Monday!

Good Morning......just got back from the dreaded chiropractor, I'll be seeing him 3 times a week for a few weeks. He decided needleless acupuncture wasn't cutting it so I had some pads put on my back/neck with a electrical current running through me? We'll see if that helps, can't hurt.
Zoe...I haven't taken the time to experiment with the Chia seeds like you have, never put them in water before. I eat them dry mixed in with my ground Flax seed and Fiber One. I'm wondering if I could put them into my yogurt 10 minutes before I eat breakfast and see if they expand/gel? Maybe I'll try that tomorrow if I remember.
Quote:
Bobbi, the chia seeds REALLY DO WORK! I haven't been nearly as hungry, and I've eaten half my normal portions and been perfectly satisfied. They look really icky, though, suspended in that gel. Takes a little getting used to.

You girls should come over and smell my basement today, YUK! A couple of days ago I was down putting some laundry in the washer and I heard some scratching noise in the furnace pipes. (vents out our basement near the ground)Then Saturday I noticed a bad rotten smell. Today Bruce took the pipes out and discovered a nest with two dead chipmonks in it. They crawled in through the outside vents and made a home down in the furnace and when the heat came on they cooked. What a foul smell!
Today I'm going out to harvest our butternut squash, it's suppose to freeze this week and don't want my favorite squash to spoil.
You all have a good one! Think sweet thoughts for my basement!

Bobbi, I’m still singing the praises of Chia seeds! They got me through a weekend that could have been pretty disastrous, but wasn’t! Yay! Where have they BEEN all my life??????? Thank you, thank you, thank you! Incidentally, a co-worker saw me adding them (the gel) to my bowl of grapefruit sections and juice at lunch last Friday, and after I told her what they were, she looked them up online, and found them at a whole foods market near where she lives. She bought some Saturday morning, has been adding them to everything she eats, and has been absolutely astounded because her blood sugar levels have dropped way down, and she’s been on medication for her blood sugar for about six months now, and has never had a reading so low as since she started with the Chia seeds, evidently. (So SHE thanks you, too!)
So we took the grandkiddos to Essex, CT to ride the steam engine train and steam boat up the Connecticut River. That took 2 ½ hours, and then we wandered around the village of Essex, which is very historical and antique-y, and they were having a scarecrow competition, so there were all manner of scarecrows sticking up everywhere. We had a nice late lunch at The Old Black Seal Pub & Restaurant, and then got ice cream for the kiddos and for DH, but none for me (Astounding!) because I didn’t feel like having any. Only ate a part of my lunch, as well! Yay, Chia! The day was sunny and beautiful – around 65 degrees, so crisp and autumn-ish, but neither too hot nor too cold: just perfect! I’ll try to attach a picture or two when I get home. Haven’t got them on my computer here at work.
Oh, no, PT…no constipation, and none of the opposite. They just seem to keep the plumbing working the way it’s supposed to, with no extremes in either direction. And speaking of plumbing, I’m glad your latest problem was so easily solved. It costs a fortune every time those plumbing folk have to come.
Well, thas’ all for now….happy Monday, one and all!

Zoe...you can thank Dr. Oz, he's the one that bragged about all the benefits of Chia seeds. He has a great show if you ever happen to be home in the afternoons.

Z and bobbi - guess I'd better try these chia seeds! I need to lower my bs and need to keep full. When I eat a lot of greens and beans, I do pretty well, but sure have to be diligent to make sure I eat them.

Hello all,

I have been reading what some of you have written about the chia seeds. They sound like a helpful thing. Where do you all get them and what kind of cost for them? I just called a nearby health food store and they were selling a 1 pound bag for $22.99 My husband loves Dr. Oz and it's like what Dr. Oz says is gospel, but even though Dr. Oz praises the chia seeds, I somehow think my husband will have a problem with that price ~ LOL.

Thanks for your help

Glynne...the seeds are not that expensive. I got mine from nutsonline...1 pound bag was only $6.99. They have all kinds of good things, I also purchased some crystallized ginger, organic Amaranth, sugar free jelly beans and dark chocolate coffee. check it out.

Regarding the Chia seeds ~ how much do you use at a time? On one place I was reading ~ the nutritional info ~ I did the WW points calculation and it was 3 points for 1 oz. How much is one ounce of the seeds?

That's a good price..or is there shipping costs too? I called Whole Foods and they have 16 oz pkg for $10.99 so I'm going to get them there.

I mix 1 teaspoon in with my morning cereal, 1 tsp. = 4 grams and 20 calories.
Nutrition Facts
1 oz. = 137 calories
137 calories divided into 1 oz (28 grams) = 4.89 calories per gram
1 teaspoon = 4 grams X 4.89 = 19.56 calories (20 calories per 1 tsp.)

Does it make you feel full too bobbi? That's what I need ...to feel full and then stop eating when I feel that way. Tonight i didn't stop eating regardless but I was very full so think it is the way I've been eating....lots of fiber ...veggies, beans. I hope I can get myself to continue eating this way, but it is kind of a hassle to constantly have to eat the same type things...I am really big on variety in my food. but I'm trying and it is working as far as making me feel full...no other way of eating has ever done that for me as I have a big appetite. My dh says as he's gotten older he has less appetite..I sure hope that happens to me...

Mary and Gayle....I ordered mine online, too, for $6.99 at a raw foods website. The shipping was a little costly - $8.00 - but they came practically overnight. My co-worker bought hers at Whole Foods, and I think she said she paid $8.99 for a pound, so I'm going to go there from now on. The pound, incidentally, goes along way. The instructions recommend adding them to water - one part Chia seed to 9 parts water. You whisk them, let them sit for ten or so minutes, and you have a gel with the seeds suspended in it. I use a quarter cup Chia seeds to 2 1/4 cups of water. Then, you refrigerate the gel in an airtight container - a peanut butter jar with screw-on lid is what I am using - and simply scoop out a few tablespoons full to add to whatever you happen to be eating. I drink Arizona Ice Tea - the diet green tea flavor - all the time, so I just pour myself about a third of a glass of that, add three or so overflowing tablespoonsful of the Chia gel, and drink it right down. Easy- peasy.
I didn't check out the calories. An ounce of seeds is quite a lot, actually. More, probably, than you'd want to have at once. I'm not sure how to measure it, though...I'll try it on my little food scale and see if I can do it that way.
Well, gotta run...it's 5:30 AM, and I have to leave at 6:30...woe is me!
Have a great day, Golden Girlies
!

Good Morning......no headache this morning!
I grabbed the Chia seeds out of the freezer and re-figured the calories:
Quote:
I mix 1 teaspoon in with my morning cereal, 1 tsp. = 4 grams and 20 calories.
Quote:
Nutrition Facts
1 oz. = 137 calories= 7 teaspoons
137 calories divided into 1 oz (28 grams) = 4.89 calories per gram
1 teaspoon = 4 grams X 4.89 = 19.56 calories (20 calories per 1 tsp.)
Not much going on today, will have to get out and harvest more garden and bone builders class tonight.
Mary...does it make me feel full? Just eating Fiber One cereal with fruit and yogurt makes me feel full, adding the Chia seeds didn't make much difference. I only started adding them because Dr. Oz so strongly recommended them for health reasons.

Good morning Golden Girls,

Beautiful sunny morning. Cool sweatshirt weather, but that's good. Not a lot to do today either. Not used to all this free time, what shall I do? Maybe go to the health food store to look for some of those Chai seeds. From all the endorsements they sound like something I need to add to my way of eating.

Bobbi, Glad you are feeling better.

Have a great day,

Freda
